Riley Johnson

  • .

Riley woke that morning to her alarm and groaned as she turned over to turn off the obnoxiously loud ringing. Lying back down for a moment, Riley stretched as she contemplated just turning around and going back to sleep. It was heartbreaking that summer had now ended and school was beginning but Riley reminded herself that this was the last time she would be going back to school after summer. It was her final year and man she could not be happier about that.

She had spent most of the summer working in her brothers tattoo shop which had ultimately led to a lot of arguments between the siblings as her brother insisted Riley finish school while Riley believed she should drop out and continue working there. After all, she didn't need to finish school to be a tattoo artist, all she needed was an internship and practice. Both of which she could get by working with her brother.

The house was quiet but this wasn't unusual on a school morning, especially considering Oli didn't usually open the tattoo parlor until around 11. Grumbling under her breath, Riley eventually got out of bed and begrudgingly got ready for school.

After a quick shower, Riley dried her hair allowing it to fall naturally straight, she applied a minimal amount of makeup before throwing on one of the first outfits she saw in her closet. Riley never did put too much effort into her appearance in the mornings, it was too early and the fact that she even applied makeup was surprising to her but she guessed the good sleep last night had given her some more energy than she normally would have. Riley pulled on her black doc martins before grabbing her bag and car keys and leaving the house.

The drive to school was eerily quiet and Riley actually had to check her phone multiple times to make sure she hadn't somehow messed up the day or time. First day back at school was normally filled with the worst traffic along with shouting and excited children making their way to school. To see absolutely no one out was making her uneasy and she couldn't figure out what was happening.

Am i early? am i late? Is it the weekend? Was i drugged? was the rest of the world abducted by aliens as i slept.

The last thought made Riley smirk as she pulled into the school car park and once again was shocked to see no life around the school. Checking her phone one last time Riley confirmed to herself that she was only 5 minutes early for school and so the school should be full of people talking about their summer holidays and hopes for the following year yet it was almost like a ghost town and she couldn't wrap her head around it.

Riley grabbed her bag and stepped out of her car confusion clear on her features as she tried to make sense of the morning so far, it was like she was in a weird dream. She leaned against the hood of her car as she lit a cigarette and placed it between her lips. Eyes scanning the school grounds for someone, anyone to appear.

Maybe they're all inside?

Unable to shake the unsettling feeling, Riley took out her phone to text Leon and Luca deciding to wait until at least one of her friends arrived before going into the school. Pulling herself up, Riley sat on the bonnet of her car, kicking her feet lightly as she smoked her cigarette.

Please god can someone hurry up.

Janetta Whinery
Jan woke up with a start, her body drenched in a cold sweat. Cursing under her breath, she wiped her forehead with the back of her hand. She thought she was past these dumb nightmares. It had been months since she had one.

Reaching for her phone, she squinted as the harsh light invaded her sight. Five minutes until her alarm. Of course.

Throwing back her covers, she groggily rubbed her eyes and sat up. First day of senior year.

Despite the nightmare, she felt surprisingly well rested. She stretched for a moment, then crossed the room to wake her sister. Reaching for the pile of blankets and pillows that Lynsey burrowed herself in every night, she was shocked to find an empty bed.

There was no way that her sister was already awake and getting ready for school. Lynsey was notorious for sleeping in. Jan furrowed her eyebrows, turning to the bathroom door off their room.

The light was off. Jan slowly entered, flicking the switch and illuminating the bathroom. It was untouched; no dirty clothes or towels on the floor, no water droplets on the shower tiles, no long blonde hairs stuck to the sink. No evidence that Jan's younger sister had been present. Maybe she was eating breakfast..?

She exited the bathroom, walked back through her bedroom, and into the hallway. The entire house was dark, and Jan's confusion started to morph into a feeling of uneasiness.

School mornings were always bustling at the Whinery house. It was hard for them not to be, with seven people living there. She made her way through the house, knocking on everyone's door and entering their bedrooms.

No Aiden, no Ferne, no Randy, no Isbel or Lyndi.

Was this some sort of messed up prank? Was she still dreaming?

She ran downstairs, her heart pounding as she threw open the front door, only to be met with the same eerie emptiness that plagued her house.

What the fuck?

Antonio Bonaccorsi
Tony's mornings were always sort of hectic. Mainly because he woke up at the last possible minute. After hitting his snooze button a total of six times, he was finally jarred completely awake by the feeling of his dog's tongue licking a long stripe across his face. Tony slowly peeled his eyes open, giving Leo a scratch behind his ear.

He reached for his phone, and in his attempt, completely rolled off the bed. He landed on his bedroom floor with a thump and a groan.

Great start to the school year.

The next twenty minutes were kind of a blur. He grabbed a t-shirt off the floor and, once it passed the sniff test, threw it on along with a pair of jeans. He brushed his teeth, ran his hand through his hair a few times, and nearly fell down the stairs as he hopped around in an effort to slide his sneakers on without untying them.

Finally, once he was ready and had filled up Leo's food and water bowls, he grabbed his keys and backpack and headed outside. He assumed his father was already down at the station, as he usually was at this point of the day.

He hopped into his mom's Jeep, giving the dashboard a adoring pat. After turning the key once... twice... she finally started up on the third twist and sputtered to life. And with that, Tony pulled out of his driveway with a screech and was off.
