There is an urban legend going around online on shady forums, speaking of an abandoned mansion deep within the woods, past a long-forgotten church cemetery in the middle of nowhere. It is said that this is the Devil's abode.

People have been gathering there for who knows how long - odd people, poor souls with no luck, who you should stay away from at all costs. They come here for the annual October Ball, wearing queer masks akin to demons themselves. Once 13 have assembled and the clock strikes midnight on the 1st of October, they enter the seemingly haunted house - it appears deserted throughout the entire year except for during this accursed month, as its windows light up like jack-o-lanterns and the hellish celebration begins.

In reality, the "masquerade" is anything but a dance. After all, these individuals discarded by the world have arrived for a wholly different reason - the Trial. Anyone who is able to survive it is invited to the true end ball on Halloween night and is granted a special reward - anything they could ever wish for, made true by the Devil himself.

However, the stakes are high and most pay with their lives as soon as they go past the threshold of this crooked domain. Are you really ready to take a chance? And, even if you somehow make it, are you ready for a deal with the Devil?

Plot Overview
tumblr_n6m8g97xFg1roic4mo1_500.jpg
The story will involve 13 people that, for their own separate reasons, have dicided to partake in a game of life and death for the chance to win the grand prize - a wish fulfilled by the Devil, who is the orchestrator of the Trial. In order to participate in the so-called "October Ball", during which the event goes down, the humans arrive on the 1st of October in front of a seemingly abandoned mansion located deep within a mysterious forest in the middle of nowhere. Only those that truly need and want something with their whole being can find the trail off the beaten path that leads to the Devil's abode. After 13 such desperate individuals with very important wishes come together, the doors creak open and the game begins. It lasts all the way up to Halloween. At the end of this deadline (the evening of the 31st of October) an actual dance is held as a ritual, during which the people that made it at last get a gimps of their satanic host and have their dreams fulfilled. No tricks. This is what they get in return for "entertaining" the Devil.

As to with what they shall bring forth his enjoyment - the game consists of new challenges every day, thought up by the game master and ruler of the mansion himself. They shall all be hard obstacles to overcome, though the toughest thing to go through will be murder since out of the 13 original participants only 6 may "dance with the Devil" in the end. 7 must be sacrificed, and if this number is exceeded once the Trial comes to a finish, then everyone will be killed off.

There is, of course, another requirement - taking another person's life may be carried out solely through scaring them or making them lose their sanity to an extreme extend that the Devil views as enough. Once they are "frightened to death", the victim will simply fall lifeless to the ground - this is an action carried out by the Devil via supernatural means. Any and all forms of physical violence are prohibited at all times. Nevertheless, this stands true only when the outbursts of agression are spotted by the Devil or documented in some way in order to showcase evidence to him, meaning that they may occasionally (and exceptionally rarely) occur under the right circumstances. Additionally, the host is willing to turn a blind eye if he deems the situation "fun" or thinks that it will cause more tension/drama among the group of humans. However, for those who are caught there are repercussions worse than death - public humiliation awaits them before their life is ended in front of everyone.
Game Mechanics
The game is centered around the human participants and their minds - reason for playing along, wish, as well as fears. What they shall be afraid of plays a huge role since knowing someone's weakness will be the key to manipulating and, if it comes down to it, killing them. Thus, the Trial is a battle of strategics that calls for protecting your own identity while in the meantime revealing that of the others. Forming alliances and eventually breaking them will be a necessary means to survival. Drama is something to hope to avoid, though it will be mostly unavoidable as the Devil himself shall cause tensions to rise and bonds to shift in his attempts to satisfy his twisted and sadistic need for "entertainment".

As mentioned, discovering someone's fears will be of utmost importance. This can only be done through making the person themselves open up, though this can prove to be a daunting tasks seeing as the participants are all strangers to each other. As a matter of fact, everyone's identities shall be concealed throughout the month becuase they will be wearing masks during the whole event. Said items will be taken off only on two occasions - in case the particular human dies or during the end Halloween ball when the 6 survivors at last get to see each other. The individuals are further shielded by the fact that their names are not known. Everyone shall go by an alias.

Once someone becomes a target, what is left is to put on a show. Around the huge mansion there will be various rooms with a rather purposeful horror-ish atmosphere, together with requisite and terrifying items as well as with costumes lying about, which can be utilized by the participants in whatever way they see fit. Additionally, a specific object (of a fittingly satanic outlook/nature) with supernatural properties shall be given to every contestant, the purpose of which is to aid them in carrying out psychological torture on others or to shield themselves from possible attacks. These magic items are not at all omnipotent, as a result possessing a limit to their effectiveness and may be used only 4 times before losing their respective power.

A person may be killed off whenever, as long as there are 6 left alive by Halloween. As to how a "sacrifice" is chosen - there is no strict voting system and not everyone has to agree on who to get rid off. As long as there are people (or even merely one person) willing to end another, then they can freely use the mansion and its requisite to their advantage. Of course, frightening someone may not always work and the Devil shall be the one to give a final verdict as to whether the victim has been scared substantially. If a group is to attack someone, then they will have to come up with a plan through discussions. If a particular human needs help with offing their target, then they will have to persuade others of their views and may sometimes have to utilize cheap methods of forcing their opinion, namely lying, spreading rumors and even blackmailing.
