The next few hours of the voyage to Malalikia passed rather easily. After Ezro was sure the Al would be okay on his own to move around and perform basic functions, he retreated to his quarters to take care of some business before their landing.
In the dark room, he pulled out the Kommandants Date Pod before plugging it into a holographic projector in his private quarters that was built into his desk. A digital wall of files came up, and Ezro began looking through them all to see what sort of information the dead bastard could provide. Most of it was miscellaneous stuff, irrelevant documents, a small cache of porn, but some files that caught his eye were the following: The Conquered, Cyber Combat Initiative, Project Hades, and Project Zeus. All of which posed some questions he needed answered to.
First he started off by looking at The Conquered, due to it being the largest file size and its name gave a foreboding feel to it. Upon opening up the file, Ezro’s horrified eyes were greeted by a plethora of sub files all with the names of planets and moons labeling them. Xandar, Relliam, Ninta, Quelz, Aivatar, Nimeria, Wesheil, Tymar, Bhalaja, Terra, Kyiv, Kygo, Miahi, Sovento, Ritz, Mono, Pyro, Cryo, Requiem, Dona, Mytellica, Pinteran, and Biocon to name a few. The list was massive, due to the every expansive amount of civilizations being forced into the ITF’s control. Each sub file had hundreds of videos, images, and voice clips of the methods they had to use to gain the planets indoctrination. Some were more peaceful than others, and some were straight up savagery. How these bastards hadn’t been outed as murderers and terrorists, he’d never know. Obviously they were all too good at hiding their footsteps and actions. Ezro said a prayer in his heart for the redemption of these depraved civilizations, and out of grace he renamed the planet list to The Fallen.
The Cyber Combat Initiative was opened next, and revealed more technical documentation as well as a log of the projects start up and plans. The ITF planned on creating a Cyborg unit of soldiers to further increase the strength and versatility of their armies. Two test subjects were to begin the project, and if they proved effective and perfect on every level then the project would add more and more soldiers to the platoon until they had a fray of unstoppable creations. All built to conquer planets single handedly due to their tough exterior and perfected combat skills. Fit with the most powerful and lightweight weapons, they’d be a one man army. But this whole thing would be at the cost of emotion, and the process of being converted to a Cyborg had a high fatality risk and even then if the process was completed there was no guarantee that exosuit would accept the pilot. With all of this information, Ezro was awfully scared to see what the next two files had.
Project Hades, this file would bring the answers that Ezro was looking for when it came to the Cambion. Sure enough, the massive machine was the first test subject to be a success in the Cyber Initiative. There were images and blueprints of the model, and from what he could tell there was no weak points or definitive ways to take it down save for brute force like they had used. Even then, this subject was apparently still in the testing phases and didn’t have any weapons equipped. It was still adjusting it’s physical combat and perfecting it, so the captain couldn’t even begin to imagine the destruction this machine would cause in its completed state.
There was also a time log available, and upon opening it up Ezro saw another list, this time of test subjects start at 001 and working their way down however many more there were. A little over two hundred people had been tested and put through the painful process of being transformed into an unholy union of flesh and metal. Some of the subject numbers had video clips attached to them, and Ezro viewed soldiers of differing races and origins being absolutely massacred. Some of them he even knew at one point or another. The gist of the procedure was that their appendages from the elbow and knee down would be removed and instead replaced with plug like machinery that would attach into the exosuits and form a semipermanent bond. The video clips only contained the moments when the procedures went wrong. Most of them simply died from the overwhelming blood loss, others weren’t so fortunate. Wiring was also laced in the body to pair muscle movement with suit movement, and all of it run by the human brain. This provided complications were malfunctions would occur in the cerebral implant, causing combustion, electrocution, or the subject would go permanently brain dead from the stress. Other complications came from the subjects being installed to the suit. Should their body be incompatible with the suits requirements or the operation not have been performed correctly, they’d be fried like an egg. Next trying to tweak the paring with the brain was also a major difficulty. In some videos, exosuits resembling the Cambion would try moving around. One example was subject 056 who tried twisting at the waist to test rotary movement at the hips, only for the Cambion suit to twist a fully 180 degrees around and snap their spinal cord. Broken shoulders, hips, and necks followed a similar process, and the screams were all horrifying. Some subjects even went totally mad and literally destroyed themselves.
With every dead subject there was a story paired of how they tragically perished in combat, fighting for the freedom of their system. This confirmed the notion that these soldiers were forced into the project, and didn’t join of their own volition. But it only made sense after all, who would want to lose their humanity purely for power? Especially when it was power that you couldn’t really enjoy?
All of the perished subjects were highlighted in Red, but the final subject in the list #227 was a bright green that shone out amongst the sea of the dead. It’s time stamp was from a couple years ago, and it had extra text that said ‘SUBJECT SUCCESS.’ A second timeline was couple with the subject file that showed the testing phases of the machine. Yesterday was apparently Project Hades’ first day in the public eye, which made sense given that it must’ve taken forever to calibrate and fix everything. But now that Project Hades was fully programmed to move around, the date could be copied to the second subject. Speaking of which....
Ezro was curious to see if Project Zeus, and upon opening it up he found date all similar to that of Project Hades’. The blue prints were different, and it had plans for different weapons and specialties. But it was still a weapon of mass destruction. The timeline of the subjects was opened up, and subject 001 for Project Zeus was performed the day after Project Hades was deemed a successful paring. So the search Project Zeus has only been active as long as Project Hades has been active. There was no green label for a completed subject, and at the very bottom of the list there was big Red Bold text that read ‘SUBJECT NOT FOUND.’ For some reason, these words chilled Ezro to the core.
Snapping back to reality, Ezro realized that his reading session had taken a couple hours and by this point they were on the verge of arrival at the planet. So as a final step, he copied all the data to his own data pod and sent it out to his crew members with a tag line “You all might want to read this.”
