One day you're walking the shadows, mist in the night and taking what you want from the city, the next you're shackled up in an antimagic dungeon, and the next day the princess of the country is coming to you with a deal: take her on her pilgrimage and not only will you get to go free, but you'll get a treasure "more valuable than you'll ever hope to steal" to go with it. It's an obvious deal to take, no matter who you are.
Bring the princess home safe and get paid. That's all that matters.

Being a princess isn't all fun and games, it's work and classes and no freedom of any sort. Once you come of age you will be married off and will never be allowed to leave the castle again, not even to go to the gardens, let alone get out of the city. But in the holy scriptures you have found a loophole: a Pilgrimage! One chance to see the world outside the city!
Of course, the king won't just let you go out in the world like that; you have to have a bodyguard! You are only allowed to go on your pilgrimage as long as you get a bodyguard to go with you, AND the king has formally banned everyone from going with you. The only chance you have is that lone thief in the dungeon, your one chance at freedom.

And that's the scene! I have characters that can play either side of this, so let's do something fun! Travel a world! Meet new people! Let the cultures crash as the two slowly learn that they like to be together after all!
