The Students

Red Shadow Claws

Six Thousand Club
The following is the list of the former students (hostages), whose exploits you'd be following, and who will provide a backdrop to some of the things you will do.

Ichiro Masaki – The oldest son of the Badger Clan Daimyo is an oddity in his clan. In a clan of Bushi, he is a Shugenja, and is studying Earth magic, from the Master of Earth himself.

Komori Fumiko – The last surviving daughter of the Bat Clan Daimyo is not a very social person, but seems to have a great knack for dealing with animals. On her 12th birthday, she was given a rare toritaka hawk, and the two are now inseparable.

Hachi Usuko – The daughter of the Bee Clan Daimyo, is a sculptor, and a very fierce critic of others’ work. Few people like her, but everyone knows she will give honest critique.

Heichi Sozen – The son of the Boar Clan Daimyo, he has invested little in learning about court, and invested more into studying warfare. He is a serious man, and has little for what he seems as the frivolousness of court.

Hida Sugu – The grandson of the Hida family Daimyo in the Crab Clan, Sugu isn’t a big man like some of his family, but he possess a great strength, and a hatred to all things Scorpion. He likes hugging, very much, but if he doesn’t like you, his hugs can be very painful, as he has studied the art of unarmed combat.

Hiruma Aya – The granddaughter of the Hiruma family Daimyo of the Crab clan, Aya prefers the wilderness than stay cooped inside. But if she has to stay inside, she likes to dance. She was a willing aide to several of Shosuro Ying’s schemes to stealth around the imperial city.

Kaiu Utagu – The son of the Kaiu family Daimyo of the Crab Clan, he has lost his left arm in childhood, but despite that, he has proved to be a very capable engineer and craftsman, especially so when it was discovered the original Kaiu himself is watching over him.

Kuni Tanako – The daughter of the Kuni family Daimyo of the Crab Clan, in an incident with Moto Kisada, one of her eyes was cut open. She doesn’t resent him for it. She seems stoic, and unlike some of the rumors you’ve heard about witch-hunters (That they’re crazy), she seems to be a sensible woman.

Toritaka Taiko – The niece of the Toritaka family Daimyo of the Crab Clan, Taiko has thrown herself into her studies. She is a good warrior, but seems to like being able to know better than even the various Shugenja about the Spirit Realms.

Yasuki Akiko – The daughter of the Yasuki family Daimyo of the Crab Clan, Akiko is a shrewd merchant, and an honest one. She was always willing to deal with her fellow students, exchanging things they didn’t want, for other things.

Asahina Iseki – The niece of the Asahina family Daimyo of the Crane Clan, she eschewed her family’s strict pacifism, and has gone to learn at the Kakita Bushi school. She is a fine duelist.

Daidoji Yaruko – The niece of the Daidoji family Daimyo of the Crane Clan, she sees herself as worthy of joining the ranks of the elite spearmen unit of the Daidoji. It’s all she ever talks about.

Doji Kiri – The Daughter of the Doji family Daymio, she seems to follow the Doji Courtier school, but has a bit of a rebel streak to her. For example, she doesn’t dye her hair white.

Kakita Enko – The granddaughter of the Kakita family Daimyo of the Crane Clan, Enko has envied Kauro her skill at poetry, and has chosen to focus her studies on that. She does have a great voice. But she is smug and condescending to all other artisans who haven’t studied at the Kakita Artisan School.

Kitsuki Aki – The grandson of the Kitsuki family Daimyo of the Dragon Clan, Aki is a perceptive man, who always likes to know the truth of what’s going on. In that, he seems to have learned some secrets of others, which he keeps to himself, seemingly, but it also makes it easier to send him chasing ‘ghosts’ by presenting him with a riddle or a shard of a secret.

Mirumoto Jiro – The second son of the Mirumoto family Daimyo of the Dragon Clan, Jiro is dutiful, and is good with the swords. He studies the Niten style of the Mirumoto. He is infatuated with Ito Cho, though he never spoken of it.

Tamori Hikari – The granddaughter of the Tamori family Daimyo of the Dragon Clan, Hikari is a notable Shugenja. She openly carries her disdain for the Agasha family, and Agasha Kenkyo in particular. Her command of Earth magic has garnered the attention of the Master of Earth even.

Togashi Sugu – The son of the Togashi family Daimyo of the Dragon Clan, he has been betrothed to Ujina Tsanuri. And both seem to resent this union, but he has been more vocal about it. It has so affected his studies that his Sensei has decided to give him different tattoos than those he requested.

Tonbo Kitaro – The youngest son of the Tonbo family from the Dragonfly Clan, he seems to have a knack for divination. He is a studious man, but doesn’t hesitate to inform people about things coming to them, good and bad alike.

Ito Cho – The daughter of the Ito family Daimyo of the Dragonfly Clan, Cho is a quiet-spoken woman who has a knack for diffusing situations before they escalate. She usually speaks in little more than a whisper, so others usually lean forward to hear her words. But her words seem to soothe and calm tempers.

Hotaru Masao – The son of the Hotaru family Daimyo of the Firefly Clan, Masao has been granted permission to study with the Akodo Bushi school. Speculation is rampant about why and how this happened. After all, the Firefly is a recently made (less than 20 years) Minor Clan, and to gain the favors to send a student to a Great Clan should be beyond them.

Ujina Tsanuri – The daughter of the Ujina family Daimyo of the Hare Clan, Tsanuri’s studies seem to have been walks in the gardens with an old family retainer. She is a serious woman though, and rarely laughs.

Usagi Rihito – The son of the Usagi family Daimyo of the Hare Clan, Rihito is a risk taker, and an acrobat. But also a fine bushi. He is always looking at the bright side of life, though when he does sit still, he can be caught brooding.

Akodo Toshi – The nephew of the Akodo family Daimyo of the Lion Clan, Toshi is an epitome of a Lion Bushi. He is an honorable man who lives strictly by the Code of Bushido. He looks down on anyone who fails to live up to the Code.

Ikoma Shiori – The niece to the Ikoma family Daimyo of the Lion Clan, Shiori is trained as an Ikoma Bard. She might not have the great voice of Kakita Enko, or the improvisation of Suzume Haru, but her tales are moving nonetheless. She likes to tell epic tales, of great heroes, and great triumphs, and unlike some, she doesn’t seek to glorify only her Clan, but all of Rokugan’s Heroes.

Kitsu Hansha – The son of the Kitsu family Daimyo of the Lion Clan, Hansha is a Shugenja with great expectations ahead of him. He is a serious man, who fell in love with Tsuruchi Chiroku when she stood up for him against any who sought to bully him.

Matsu Yoshio – The son of the Matsu family Daimyo of the Lion Clan, Yoshio is a proud warrior, and seems to spend much time in the stables area. And while Myia Zefa resents it, the Matsu battle lions are housed in the same complex as the horses. Yoshio keeps his pup, Kyōdaina, away from the horses.

Kitsune Toru – Adopted by the Kitsune family Daimyo of the Mantis Clan, Toru is an enigma. Many rumors surround him, trying to tell where he came from. But he ignores them all. He is a bushi, and shares Hiruma Aya’s love for the wild places. In fact, many students joke that they go out to be away from the prying eyes of Soshi Mitsumeru.

Moshi Kauro – The daughter of the Moshi family Daimyo of the Mantis clan, she is very small, barely 1.4 meters, but is a beauty to look at. She is also a reasonable poet, and seems to be more drawn to the Fire magic than Air magic. She seems to be indifferent to Shosuro Ying’s presence, even though they study from the same Sensei.

Tsuruchi Chiroku – The niece of the Tsuruchi family Daimyo of the Mantis Clan, she is plain looking woman, whom you wouldn’t give a second look at. But she is a master archer, but while she despises the blade, she has taken some lessons in it. She is betrothed to Kitsu Hansha, and they are both in love.

Yoritomo Yuka – The granddaughter of the Yoritomo family Daimyo of the Mantis Clan, Yuka has never been one to draw attention to herself. She spends her time with her mentor, an old Yoritomo courtier, or with Kasuga Tokito, or, on rare occasions, with Soshi Mitsumeru. What she and Mitsumeru might discuss together is hard to say.

Toku Kichiro – The middle son of the Toku family Daimyo of the Monkey Clan, Kichiro is an extremely lucky man. It certainly seems as if fortune favors him. He was about to lose a race once, because he slipped on a patch of mud, but that slipping splashed the mud on a horse, who instinctively kicked Yogo Kabe, who was leading the race, and knocked him out.

Fuzake Fumiko – The niece of the Fuzake family Daimyo of the Monkey Clan, Fumiko is a great beauty, but little more than that. She is unable to speak to the Kami, unlike most of her family, and is neither good with the sword, or the word.

Tsi Akagi – The grandson of the Tsi family Daimyo of the Oriole Clan, Akagi was born lame. He has become obsessed with crafting, and despite his handicap is considered to be a great craftsman, especially when it comes to katanas.

Morito Ifran – The nephew of the Morito family Daymio of the Ox Clan, Ifran is a large man, with an ugly face, who some claim seem to resemble that of the original Morito, who founded the Ox Clan.

Kujaku Akira – The oldest son of the Kujaku family Daimyo of the Peacock Clan, Akira is the main reason Soshi Mitsumeru has taken up her duty to guard the female students. From a young age he seemed to have a knack for inducing the female students to go with him, and do things. He hasn’t stopped. Instead, his focus seems to be on Soshi Mitsumeru.

Agasha Kenkyo – The granddaughter of the Agasha family Daimyo of the Phoenix Clan is a Fire Shugenja. But despite her ability to speak to the Kami, she seems to prefer traditional crafting. Anything from gowns, to weapons, she is a capable crafter.

Asako Kamoshika – The youngest daughter of the Asako family Daimyo of the Phoenix Clan, Kamoshika is the butt of many jokes, but only behind her back. She is a very unattractive woman, and many claim that was why her name was chosen (her name means goat). But in a family of mystics and scholars, she is unusual. She is of great size, for a woman, and for a Phoenix, and is more bloodthirsty that the Matsu. In fact, she is taught by a Matsu Berserker in their techniques.

Isawa Yumi – The daughter of the Isawa family Daimyo of the Phoenix Clan, seems like a normal girl, but she is regarded with suspicion by many. She is one of the rare Ishiken-do, those who can cast Void Magic. But it seems to have taken a physical toll on her, and she isn’t too healthy.

Shiba Shirudo – The nephew of the Shiba family Daimyo of the Phoenix Clan, Shirudo is a bushi who serves as a yojimbo to Isawa Yumi. Other than learning better to defend her, he has poured his soul into learning to craft armor. His armor is not great, but it beautifully made. And works well.

Sesai Ishiki – The son of the Sesai family Daimyo of the Phoenix Clan, he is taught by the Asako Loremaster. But for a loremaster he seems to know very little lore. He seems to find more kinship with the Kasuga and Tanuki students.

Karasu Forowa – The nephew of the Karasu family Daimyo of the Raven Clan, Forowa keeps to himself most of the time, and his only friends seem to be monks, both from Clan monastic orders, and from the Brotherhood monks who come to visit. Strangely enough, he never tried to speak to Yoshi.

Hitokage Gimu – The son of the Hitokage family Daimyo of the Salamander Clan, Gimu is unable to speak to the Kami, despite being the son of two powerful Shugenja. But as their only child, he is the heir. For now he studies to be a Shiba Bushi, and constantly bemoans his ill luck. To hear him say it, not being a Shugenja is tantamount to a death sentence, and being a bushi is a degrading thing. Naturally, he is disliked by all those training to be a bushi.

Bayushi Jesucha – The daughter of the Bayushi family Daimyo of the Scorpion Clan is tutored by her own mother in the trade of the courts, and is a dutiful daughter, until her mother needs to leave for a visit to this or that court, at which time she tries to seduce anyone and everyone. And while Mitsumeru tried once to stop it, Jesucha pulled rank on her, and made her stop. Rumors say Mitsumeru was severely punished, but none knows any details.

Shosuro Ying – The son of the Shosuro family Daymio, he was schooled by the Moshi Shugenja, and seems to show great promise with both Air and Fire. He seems to follow in his grandfather’s steps, who also studied at that school.

Soshi Mitsumeru – The niece of the Soshi family Daimyo of the Scorpion Clan, Mitsumeru has a chilling effect on most men. She has a knack for knowing when someone is interested in one of the female students, and to put a dousing on it. She seems to have taken it upon herself to do this.

Yogo Kabe – The grandson of the Yogo family Daimyo of the Scorpion Clan, Kabe is a dour man. He never joked, and always stayed by himself, keeping his own counsel. The only time he spoke out, was when he issued a challenge to all other students 6 months ago, claiming that none of them can break through his wards on his chambers. Indeed, for that week, almost everyone tried, and failed. Even the Shugenja. He’s been smug ever since.

Chuda Hoturi – The son of the Snake Clan Daimyo, he was a sweet and lively boy, who grew up to be a cold silent man. During one of his lessons, an accident occurred, but there are no details on the specifics, and he has been scarred since then.

Suzume Haru – The nephew of the Sparrow Clan Daimyo, he is the best storyteller you’ve ever encountered. And he can spin tales like nobody else. But he’s also good with his sword, and his friendly demeanor might fool you into thinking he isn’t.

Tanuki Hidesu– The nephew to Tanuki family Daimyo of the Tanuki Clan, Hidesu is a joyful guy with a penchant for getting sake through the Imperial Guards, and to drinking. He was looked down upon by almost everyone, until one day he spotted a Scorpion courtier acting weird, and exposed him as a trickster spirit that took the shape of the courtier.

Yotsu Hokori – The daughter of the Yotsu family Daimyo of the Tiger Clan is a beautiful woman, but none dare provoke her. She has a temper to her, and while she appears slim, she possesses great skill at fighting. Asahina Iseki insulted her once, and shortly after found herself at sword point, caught unaware.

Kasuga Tokito – The son of the Tortoise Clan Daimyo, he was always a prankster. He’d sneak around, was caught stealing a few times, and generally being dishonorable. But he was always quick to laugh and when a friend was in need, he’d be one of the first to offer a helping hand.

Horiuchi Tsanuri – The granddaughter of the Horiuchi family Daimyo from the Unicorn clan, she is a strange one. She is not one to be swayed easily, but when presented with physical pleasures she finds it hard to refuse. And she is sickened by the sight of blood.

Ide Zukosei – The grandson of the Ide family Daimyo of the Unicorn clan, his knowledge of law, and the courtly skills, has made him a favorite student for Seppun Reigi, and his reputation as a rumor monger has made most of his fellow students seek him out to learn rumors, but stay a bit away lest he spread rumors about them.

Iuchi Kaito – The son of the Iuchi family Daimyo of the Unicorn clan, he seems to have focused more on his mastery of Water magic, and as a result is the strongest of the younglings.

Moto Kisada – The cousin to the Moto family Daimyo, Kisada has thrown himself into proving himself a great warrior. So much so, that he barely mastered the basics of court skills. When Kuni Tanako tried to ascertain if he was Tainted, he poked out her eye with the training sword.

Shinjo Minoru – The heir to the Shinjo family Daimyo of the Unicorn clan, he has taken readily to study a variety of things, and has numerous times proclaimed that he will win the Topaz Tournament. He has proven to be a prodigy in his studies.

Utaku Murasaki – The niece to the Utaku family daimyo of the Unicorn clan, Murasaki is a fierce warrior, and seems to exemplify all the traits of a battle maiden. However, she has been betrothed to Ichiro Masaki, and while he likes her fierce nature, she doesn’t love him. On the day her betrothal was announced, she couldn’t stop crying, after Otomo Kanashimi, a young Otomo you guys have mingled with, killed himself on the same day.

Yoshi - Yoshi is the odd man. He doesn't belong to one of the Clans, and is in fact a Brotherhood Monk, from the Four Temples sect. few know much about his ancestry, though ti seems he is a commoner, but it is known that the Brotherhood has asked the Empress to send one of their own to be a student, for their own reasons.
