UIN Sentinel
Along a long, winding, dirt road there were two men sitting alongside each other inside a rusty Chevy Silverado. As they drove the sky bled a dismal blue and grey clouds had begun to move in on the beat up pickup. Modern Serbia set in the year 2256 was a struggling society of men and women terrorized by bandits. The Deliblato Sands was a 300 kilometer stretch of land that was hot, humid, and treacherous to those who journeyed through the fine grains of sediment. It was there where two men had begun their refuge from the city of Novi Sad. Corpses had crawled up from the sand sporadically, crawling towards the vehicle that kicked up dust as it sped away down its path. Undead men and women missing varied percentages of their torso and limbs emitted a grizzly sight. Raindrops began beating down on the windshield when the driver of the automobile opened his mouth to speak. "Fifteen minutes until we reach the security checkpoint!" Novi Sad had suffered an outbreak of unimaginable severity. Mutated larvae from an unknown specimen had hitched onto the backs of Desert locusts and created a problem of apocalyptic preportions. When the locusts swarmed across the sands to feed, crops were decimated. Food sources and livestock became contaminated soon after, and humans followed suit. Those infected suffered loss of vision, rage, dementia, unquenchable hunger, dehydration, growth disorders, and over time lost control of their own body as the parasite grew inside ithe victim's digestive tract.
The United Interstellar Nations are an intergovernmental organization tasked to promote interplanetary cooperation and to create and maintain interstellar order in the local group. During the initial outbreak of the Deliblato Complex Virus 2, (DCV-2) three UIN Sentinels are tasked to retrieve a holocron containing sensitive information inside a downed FTL aircraft. The aircraft had done an emergency warp to hyperspace after coming into a dangerous encounter with an asteroid field and seemingly materialized too close to Earth’s orbit. The FTL vessel made an uncontrollable descent and destroyed 3 military satellites before it crashed into the dunes of the Deliblato Sands. The pilot of said aircraft is presumed dead, and upon examination of the crash site the sentinels are attacked by the infected
