Hey! I wanted to ask how you think our characters should interact.
I think, based on both their personalities, Elizabeth and Coco could click upon meeting each other. Elizabeth loves people, and Coco loves the attention.
However, I have an idea for a slow-burn genuine friendship with tension building up.

Elizabeth admires Coco's confidence and boldness, as Elizabeth doesn't know where her boundaries start and end. However, she slowly begins feeling taken for granted when she believes Coco may not respect her as a roommate and would not regard her as a friend. On the other hand, Coco, who thrives on emotionally grey areas, feels confronted by Elizabeth's genuine kindness and the fact that she communicates honestly.

Elizabeth is the type who understands you need some fun, but constant fun with no regard for responsibilities and others' well-being would make her eye twitch. She loves Coco's vibe at first, but her antics get tiring for Elizabeth over time, and she can't keep up.

I think they can be friends at first, and good friends eventually, but I think it's realistic to hit a bump in the road when these are 2 very different people.

Correct me if I'm wrong but these are the vibes I'm getting:

  • Elizabeth: wakes up at 5am to start her day, is afraid of confrontation and strives for harmony, a perfectionist who needs structure to operate, airport mum who arrives 4 hours early, would make detailed plans for Coco's birthday, would write strongly worded emails defending Coco, wears her heart on her sleeve, thinks before she speaks and acts, can't say 'no', forgives fast but never forgets, burns out from caring too much.
  • Coco: gets in at 5am from a night out, confrontation is scared of her, has no plan but gets the job done somehow, flirts with security so she can get on her flight with 10 minutes to spare, forgets Elizabeth's birthday but gets her a last-minute gift that Elizabeth treasures, would throw hands to defend Elizabeth, withdraws emotionally (maybe even physically?) to dodge everything she's feeling, thinks after she speaks, will say no and tell you your shoes are ugly while she's at it, takes time to forgive but once she does it she's over it, burns out from avoiding things for too long.
I think they balance each other out quite nicely. It's a pair where outsiders look at them and think, "How are they even friends?" but after some time, the other flatmates can see they're like Yin and Yang, or like the angel and devil on your shoulder.

Welcome to the chat!

We've got 5 people interested in the roleplay so I closed the character sheets.

However, given there's 4 rooms, I thought 2 people could room together.

I don't mind my character, Elizabeth sharing a room with someone else seeing as it's on brand for her - someone who wants a harmonious environment. But I can imagine her getting frustrated if she ends up rooming with somebody who disturbs her peace.

In terms of her relationship with Carter, I think they're nice contrasts to one other. ❤

She'd take a role like organising the house chores, so Carter slacking off could frustrate her BUT Elizabeth lets the situation bubble until it burns her.

  • Carter seems laid back and doesn't stress too much, while Elizabeth's already planning the following week out in her head.
  • I think Elizabeth would try to encourage Carter to seize opportunities if he expresses he's not happy with where he is - this can come off as condescending despite her intentions.
  • I think, like Coco, Cab could help Elizabeth loosen up a little and stop prioritising being perfect, while Elizabeth helps him think about his future more seriously.
  • I imagine playful, almost endearing bickering from these two. Like him complaining her colour-coded grocery list isn't actually helpful, while she tells him off for not returning her scissors, again.
  • He wants to stay in + she gets burned out = 'do nothing' nights where they just binge-watch Netflix on Elizabeth's cousin's account.
I'm curious to see how Carter and Coco interact too, since they seem like Aspen Lane's wildcard residents. 👀

I think Amelia would like to collaborate with Elizabeth in organizing the house chores.

Sure! I don’t even mind if we all change our character sheets slightly as the roleplay progresses, if we need to.

Are you up for Elizabeth and Amelia rooming together? They seem like a duo which would have respect towards eachother’s space upon meeting eachother. They could also be similar in the sense that they’re organised. I don’t think they would snoop through eachother’s things or take anything without permission either.

Yes, that seems doable.

Hello!! Can I say I love Soren already??

I have to get ready for the gym now, but trust me, I’ll come back here with some plans! In the meantime, if you have any ideas on what Elizabeth-Soren’s, or Soren and another character’s relationship as roommates could look like, feel free to share!

Thank you! I love Elizabeth as well. She sounds like a genuinely nice person. Based off their personalities I’d say that maybe Elizabeth is interested in befriending Soren but it takes a long time for him to warm up to her. After looking over the character sheets, I kinda feel like Soren is just about to be adopted by a bunch of extroverts. Have fun at the gym!

Elizabeth would definitely want to be friends with Soren but I agree that it would take some time. So a slow-burn. If he brushes off her attempts at making conversation or turns down invites to group outings, she’d definitely think he hates her 🤣

A little points/headcanons of how I think their relationship would play out:

  • At first, Elizabeth tries her best to get to know him and invites him out for social events. Soren turns down the invites and gently brushes her off. Elizabeth gets a little hurt by this, wondering why Soren won't even give her a chance.
  • She loves and offers friendship loudly so at first, Soren's responses feels like rejection. On the other end, Soren is showing he cares through acts of service. Elizabeth realises the little things Soren gets done to make her life a little easier. Her lemon teabags and caramel latte sachets are magically stocked up. That one chore that Elizabeth keeps passive-aggressively reminding Carter to do is suddenly done, but Carter hasn't moved an inch from his spot on the sofa. She leaves her laptop and charger on the dining table and returns to find the charger wire untangled, with Soren retreating to the kitchen to get some water.
  • To show thanks, she might joke, "And here I thought you hated me." To which Soren might be confused as to why she ever thought that. He didn't think she wanted to be friends with him anyway.
  • They remember eachother's preferences. He doesn't like coffee unless it's black/doesn't drink coffee (whatever you want), she needs a large salted caramel latte with oatmilk with one sugar. Or a regular pistachio latte. Or a large caramel latte. Or something else on the menu that isn't jet black with no other colours involved.
  • They slowly adopt a shared routine because they're up around the same times, they eat at the same times etc.
  • If something gives the result Elizabeth wants, but it doesn't feel right, Elizabeth won't go through with it. She definitely follows her heart which irks Soren in the beginning. Elizabeth is initially baffled that Soren doesn't factor in people's emotions when fixing a problem, and focuses on finding the solution itself. However, they both learn to accept the other's perspective and begin to understand eachother's reasonings.
  • When she gets all these ideas that seem a little out of reach given her current position in life, he doesn't seem like the type to shut her down harshly. Instead, he offers structure and practical steps to achieve these goals. "I want my own imprint one day." Followed by Soren asking, "Who's your market?" She has the vision, and he has the blueprint.
  • I think Elizabeth would help him decipher and translate tone and body language. "She told us she can't hang out because she's busy studying, but the way she said it means she's obviously lying." He makes mental (or physical) notes of the pointers Elizabeth hands out.
  • Soren might say something which doesn't quite land in social settings, so Elizabeth might save the day with, "Ok. He didn't mean it like that. What he meant to say was-"
  • Soren may think in binaries. Categories like success/failure, useful/useless, black/white etc. Elizabeth's thought process is more of a grey area and they're both almost in awe by how the other thinks.
  • She celebrates his little wins, things he sees as mere routine or necessary to get on with the task at hand. She'd congratulate him on organising his binders for different subjects and he'd see how her optimism bleeds out into the flat.
  • She constantly tells him she's proud of him when he gets good grades, and praises his intelligence. He doesn't know how to handle the compliments at first.
  • As time goes on, he might see how she has imposter syndrome and might not give herself enough credit which could make him be a tad bit softer with her.
  • He sees her spiral in the dining area once, tears streaming down her face as she tries to meet an editing deadline. He might internally panic because he doesn't think he's the right person to deal with this. But then, he starts talking about his cool rock facts because everyone loves cool rock facts, and she begins to calm down.
  • They both have organised routines but his is more structured and reasoned. Breakfast at 7am because it fuels you for the start of your day and enhances concentration in the mornings, you finish the meal in 30 minutes because it shouldn't take you that long to eat. Her routine is more 'breakfast at 6am, then coffee so I can walk around the kitchen while daydreaming with a hot drink in my hand. Because it feels good.'
  • I think they'd call eachother out, but only in private, and it's done gently. Elizabeth might point out a time he was being harsh to another person, while Soren could let her know she was being overbearing in a situation. They don't want to humiliate one another or spotlight their flaws in others' presence.
  • If they ever argue, it's not a screaming match. They may say things they regret in inside voices, avoid eachother to cool down and not make conversation for a day. Elizabeth seems most likely to apologise first, especially because she understands Soren could be apologetic but doesn't know how to apologise in a way that doesn't come off awkward.
  • Once they get more comfortable with one another, Elizabeth comes home to see Soren had organised her bookshelf in alphabetical order according to authors' surnames. He thought he was being helpful because her shelf didn't make sense to him. She begins reorganising books and showing him how she thinks, "This edition of 'Pride and Prejudice' is first because it's small, and has a pretty cover. Then it's 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' because I've read it 7 times and I might reach out for it again in the future, so it needs to be near the front just in case."
  • The classic “Do you want to talk about the problem? / Or do you want to fix the problem?” Duo. People go to Elizabeth when they want someone to just listen. People go to Soren for a logical and practical solution. Both make a great team when working together, it’s like they cover most bases in a problem.
Let me know your thoughts, and feel free to adjust or add onto the points above!

Bro, you know my character better than I know him 🤣. These head cannons are super freaking adorable and I don’t have much to add. My only head cannon goes like this, Elizabeth and Soren are hanging out, Elizabeth has trouble opening like some kind of cannon, asks Soren for help. He gets excited internally because he feels like Elizabeth has been very nice and helpful, so he tries to open the can. He can’t get it, she uses a can opener. You had a lot of ideas, and I want to match your energy, but I think you got it covered.

Yes, that seems doable.
Ok, your turn. ψ(`∇´)──☆*:・゚

A few things I thought of for the dynamic between our characters:

  • At first, Elizabeth's fine with sharing a room with Amelia. She thinks Amelia's organised and respectful. However, after a little while (maybe a few weeks?) Elizabeth could feel put off slightly since Amelia seems put together, but it's a little too put together for her and seems almost rehearsed. She doesn't recall being like this at 18. After the initial phase of sharing a room together, Elizabeth feels a quiet sense of envy. Even behind closed doors, where there's no audience, Amelia remains composed. She wonders if things could have gone differently for herself if she was more like Amelia. Despite her own accomplishments, Elizabeth looks at Amelia's side of the room and wonders if she didn't fulfil her potential when she was younger. She wonders if she would be taken more seriously in her field of work if she was a bit more like Amelia. This feeling isn't continuous and doesn't stick, it just pops into her head when she's second-guessing herself and Amelia happens to be nearby. This comparison is drawn from her insecurity that she isn't good enough to become a successful editor. It's a passing thought and she feels insanely guilty after because she grows to consider Amelia like a little sister.
  • Despite the above, perhaps the reality is that both want pieces of eachother? Elizabeth has social confidence and makes friends with ease, even at dull networking events. She gets people's LinkedIn accounts, but then asks for their Instagram handles too. It's like hitting two birds with one stone for her. Amelia's personality lets her receive respect naturally, but Elizabeth's personality traits lead her to receive genuine love. People lean into her at social settings, they feel the need to show up and deliver a care package if she's feeling unwell, they'll text her after spending a full day with her just to say they miss her already.
  • They could often have playful late evening debates about the future of AI in writing, with Elizabeth taking the viewpoint that no matter how advanced technology becomes, AI can't replace the creativity and emotion applied by humans in their work. Reading books would ultimately become unenjoyable.
  • They have mutual respect for eachother, and Elizabeth does see Amelia as an adult, but she can't help but baby Amelia sometimes. Amelia could definitely do without it since she's got everything covered, but she plays into it a little. Elizabeth would serve food on Amelia's plate first when everyone gathers for dinner, ensuring Amelia's plate is full. Whenever she does her personal grocery list, she always puts down the snack that Amelia loves. If Elizabeth's going to make herself a hot drink, she always asks Amelia whether she wants one before extending the offer to others.
  • I think both of them would give quiet compliments to eachother when they're together, but when they're not together? They're borderline boasting about eachother and their respective skill sets.
  • They both point out eachother's different writing styles. Amelia's seems more academic, given she's a student and holds a focus in research, while Elizabeth has more emotion in her writing.
  • Both could be eachother's cheerleaders when Amelia gets a good grade/gets work or research opportunities, or Elizabeth lands a project she had her eye on.
  • Both could have a designated time on the weekend where they journal and blow off some steam that's been building up over the week.
  • I can imagine Amelia agreeing to teach Elizabeth some MMA moves, and Elizabeth feels like she needs a CT scan at the end of the session. Meanwhile, Elizabeth insists Amelia tags along to her next Pilates class.
Let me know what you think, and any additional things you can think of!

Bro, trust me as soon as I saw your character sheet, I was running to the drafts with ideas.🤣

I love that headcanon of him trying his best to help her open a can but she ends up using a can opener, saving the both of them (mostly him). Soren screams acts of service to me.

You showing the same level of excitement as me is already matching energy, so we're good!

I'm thinking of making the main roleplaying thread soon, either today and tomorrow, and will be drafting my first introductory post.

Yes, that's adorable! Sorry, I can't really think of anything extra, but everything seems in-character from my end!

Actually, maybe I do have a few thoughts.

AI can't replace the creativity and emotion applied by humans in their work.
Amelia would say this view lacks historical perspective of how much things have changed in the past, and that if the mind is physical, it's ultimately based on mathematical principles.

They both point out eachother's different writing styles. Amelia's seems more academic, given she's a student and holds a focus in research, while Elizabeth has more emotion in her writing.
I think Amelia's writing can shift more emotional at times, particularly when she's journaling or writing poetry.

Amelia would see this as amusing, and maybe even play along with it in an exaggerated way, like asking for tea in a sippy cup.

Noted! And happy that you're fine with my other points!

I'll be creating the main rp thread soon. ❤

I CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED THIS, YES! YESSS!! This SOUNDS perfect!

Imma add more to this when I'm not at work!
No worries, I'm actually logging into my work laptop as we speak so you're good.
Happy that you seem to like a few of my notes on our characters though!

I'll make the main roleplay thread as soon as I'm able to!

Just wanted to do a quick PSA, which you guys probably don't need explained, but I still wanted to put out there, just in case:

We'll have the roleplay continue and move forward, even if some of us are not active. This applies to me as well. Feel free to have your characters interact, build relationships, and storylines even when I'm not online to join in.

On the other end, if you're not active - DON'T WORRY! I don't demand constant replies. You can catch up, and if there are certain scenes your character missed, you can write up a reason for your character's absence, which is on-brand for them. E.g. someone was at a party all night, went out with friends, pulled an all-nighter in the library, visited family, etc. Or we can move on and pretend the character was present, but took a backseat in that scene of the roleplay, e.g. everyone's conversing in the living area but X wants to catch up on some sleep, so they're in bed.

Basically, don't feel pressured to respond if you're busy, and don't feel like you have to hang back and wait for everyone to get on board before posting.

Alright I might be a little dumb but like, are all the characters sharing one apartment? Because I thought they were just living on the same floor. I maybe should have read it better-
