{Surviving isn't living}
Kate could feel her throat closing up as her mind raced with panicked thoughts. It seemed everyone was on board with trying to break out, and that she was the only one who wasn't, though she hadn't vocally expressed that yet. The newly formed group of Metas were all discussing their abilities and ways they could gather information. Kate felt like her brain was lagging from stress, she inwardly shrunk into her spot on the table, not even noticing the new people who joined their grubby prison table and blocking out the talk of an escape plan. She lowered her head, even more, to completely hide her face as she squeezed her eyes shut and tried to block out the memories of the only, and last time she tried to escape.
It didn't work. Her eyes opened slightly to let small drops of salty tears fall onto the table. She remembered the trust she had for those few people, the only friends she felt she ever had in this torturous hole with no exit. She remembered how her heart broke when she watched them run off, as she was left behind. She remembered the pain of the punishing experiments she received for days after the attempted escape. She remembered the hatred and betrayal she felt when she saw them return, only for them to never be seen after they were escorted to an experimenting room. She remembered when she completely gave up and was too tired to have any small ray hope.
Kate's tears stopped and she sighed, the sadness she felt before fading away, there wasn't any point in being sad anyway. Still not looking up she started playing with her food. Kate muttered quietly, "Well Goodluck to you all... but I'm not joining" It was a shame, Kate thought. They seemed like nice people, well the only nice people she talked to for a long time.
