Fantasy The Rising

No one knew where it started or how, they only knew it killed and reanimated humans. Animals were not affected but could carry the virus if bitten. Earth became more fucked up than it already was in only a matter of days...

Octavia burst through the brush and into the street of a small town in Main. Her heart beating out of her chest. She had been on a hunting trip for the last 2 weeks and didn't know the world ended a week ago until one of those things showed up in her scope today. The street was littered with cars and dead bodies, the smell reaching her nose and making her gag, puking onto the side walk. She had been around plenty of dead animals as a kid and adult but the smell of rotting human flesh was completely different. The brush behind her rustled and she jumped, pulling her pistol and pointing. Ryker, her companion and hunting buddy trotted out of the brush and over to his owner. With a roll of her eyes, Octavia holsters her weapon and silently makes her way to the small grocery store down the street, in hopes to find water for both her and Ryker. She didn't know what was going on but knew she had to get home. Only one problem. Home was 2,000 miles away.

Blood spattered against the brick wall like paint from a wet brush. It was just one of many bloodstains that dotted the walls of this back alley lot. Scattered across the ground were dozens of corpses. Despite being at varying levels of rot. Each of them had one thing in common, deep lacerations. All of these bodies had been struck down by the steel blade that down dripped with red. Even those who had grown accustomed to the dark world that had come into being just one week ago would be revolted by what they saw. The wielder of this sword dutifully tended to it, giving it a proper cleaning. Despite the heavy duty killing it had done. This sword had nary a dent, chip or roll. Looking over the carnage he had wrought. Dust sighed at the fact that his quarry were all down for the count. It had all gone by so quickly, even after all the effort he put in to lure the undead to this lot. Despite not knowing who he was, where he came from or even his own age. Dust knew one thing. He enjoyed killing zombies. Something deep inside of him burned with excitement whenever he sliced one open. Someone so attracted to violence may not have had a place in the old world. However this world was certainly more accommodating...

Yuri sat in an alleyway, having made sure there were no zombies left, he counted 6 corpses laying limp in the area, more on the streets themselves. He was breathing heavily, as they had taken him by surprise, but he had survived... somehow. However, every time he killed a zombie, it felt like he was killing a human being, a guilt that gets heavier and heavier on his shoulders, he's been with several groups, and each has died, thanks to him. He slumps against the brick wall, tears Flowing down his face, maybe, just maybe there could be a cure. Maybe, just maybe, there were more survivors

The sound of the engine and tires against the ground of a vehicle going through an empty highway was the only sign of life from miles away, a black color F-350 truck with several people in it made its way in the night. The truck was at its max capacity, carrying more than a dozen people, most of them piled in the back. Their clothing was dirty and torn apart, some of them had improvised bandages around their arms, head, and torso, The most common expressions shown in those people's faces were grief, fear, and uncertainty.

Irwin took a deep breath and sigh, the quietness of the moment and the cold wind helped him to fully process the situation where everyone was in right now. The world they lived in until less than a month stop existing, and the worse nightmare ever imagine took its place. He always has been a very stubborn and strong-minded man, maybe that's why he was able to keep going even after seeing his family die on the way towards Main. His tear pool was already dry. He knew that they would want him to survive.

The vehicle stopped, a bus was blocking the way. Those who were trying to get some sleep raised their heads in confusion. The driver let a quiet curse and turned back looking for an alternative route. Them, horrible sounds came from the distance, around 100 meters away from them. Everyone in the vehicle started panicking. They all knew the source of those noises.

"We have to go now!" Someone screamed at the driver.

From the corner of his eye, Irwin spotted a figure running. Their movement seemed too quick and well thought to be a zombie, apparently was a female, and a dog was following her. He lost sight of the person after she went into an alleyway.

"Wait! There's someone in running, we have to help them" Irwin said to the driver

"There's no way, sir! We have too many people in here and this zone is dangerous"

Irwin didn't even hesitate and jumped out of the back of the truck. And walked towards the alleyway he last saw the person with a baseball bat in his hand.

Daphne felt dazed as she shot down another one of those...things.
The daze had begun two weeks ago during her shift at general mercy, watching a man who had coded raise up and rip out the throat of the nurse closest to him. Daphne had been one of the few to try and man the hospital, helping the living and putting down the dead. They lasted a week before the inevitable happened, she couldn’t remember how she had made it out. Now she was here, wherever that was trying to keep moving forward. The killing felt against her moral code, but did the hippocratic oath apply to walking corpses?

Octavia ran through the doors of the grocery store, out into the street. The dead was right on her tail as she made her way around a building and into a alley way. Her heart was hammering as she called out for her pet. "RYKER! FALL BACK!" Octavia turned the corner, taking off down the alley way, looking back to find her pet. What she didn't see was a leg sticking out in her way. She tripped, landing hard on her face, scraping her cheek, hands and chest against the hard concrete. She cursed and flipped over, pulling her gun and pointing it at the other human. Her eyes wide all she could get out of her mouth was "Run!"

(A horde is following my character. If anyone wants to get in on the horde to get the group together you can.)

Yuri looked at the woman who just tripped over him for a moment in confusion, just until he saw the undead following her "Holy fuck those are some fast shitheads!" He exclaimed, before pulling the strap of his AR, and pulling it up to him, taking a few potshots, before taking off, he had hit one in the head, but the rest only hit bodies "And that is a lot of motherfuckers!" His eyes widened, as he sprinted for his life, his chest tightening from killing one. "What the fuck did you do to attract them all!?!"

Irwin walked as stealthy as he could, looking for every sign of movement around his area. Something he was able to learn about those walking corpses was that they act by pure instinct, so quick and fast movements were an effective way to attract their attention. Their behavior didn't seem organized at all, every creature was on their own, with a hunger for anything that moves and can feed them. But also, they seemed able to distinguish their own kind, Irwin never saw a zombie eating another zombie.

*Bang*

A loud gunshot echoed through the streets. every creature in the surroundings starting acting erratically, confused by the sound. Then every creature walked to the source of the sound.

Irwin, hidden behind a dumpster, saw all of this from the front seat. It was terrifying and fascinating at the same time.

More shots were fired, and the zombies changed their direction to the new source of the sound, around two streets further away. That was very lucky for the first person, very unlucky for the second one.

Irwin decided to keep walking calm and slow, like if it was a sunny day in the park. He wanted to talk to the person who shot first, it was the closest and the one with the least amount of zombies.
( Void Dweller Void Dweller <- It was her gunshot)

Dust heard a gunshot in the distance. Zombies couldn't operate firearms. Which meant that another human had to be close by. To some, the presence of other people was a good thing. However Dust himself had seen people devolve into animals this past week. Betrayal, murder and thievery were simply the norm now. Sheathing his sword and taking to the rooftops. Dust looked down at the shambling corpses which moved about the street. Luckily for him, they couldn't climb. Much like using a sword, Dust also had no idea where he learned parkour. Though it was certainly a useful skill to have in the Apocalypse. Jumping from roof to roof as he made his way toward the sound. He saw a pair of humans attempting to flee what seemed to be a literal horde of zombies. A burning sensation spread throughout his body as he hungrily looked on at the horde. Pulling out his modified 1911A1 and waiting until the pair of them had drawn the zombies back into the street. Dust crouched and looked through the sights on his pistol. Aiming for the gas tanks on the abandoned cars. He was able to get them to spray gasoline onto the road. Whenever a large cluster of zombies would pass by one of these cars, Dust would shoot the gasoline. This resulted in a few of the vehicles exploding, tearing chunks in the horde.

Daphne hadn’t considered that her gunshot would attract more than just a corpses attention. She had seen what desperate people were willing to do if they thought it would help their own situation in the slightest. It hadn’t been just the corpses that had overrun the hospital, people had raided the hospital for pain medication of all things. The defenses had been weak, and after that it was all over. Daphne sucked in a breath when she heard gunshots, not close but hardly far away. She also heard the shuffling of feet away from her position and cursed her own naivety, she didn’t have the skills to fight off an entire group.

Daphne sent out a silent thank you to whoever was distracting them. Reading her gun and bag, she turned into an alley and felt her heart stop. Her was on the trigger before she realized it was a living man. “We’re you bit?” She didn’t lower her gun, but felt overwhelming relief at seeing another person who wasn’t attacking her.

All of a sudden Octavia and her new red-haired companion had angels watching over them. Gunshots rang in all different directions, breaking up the horde. She looked back watching the gas pour onto the pavement. Her eyes searched the windows of the buildings and couldn't find anyone but she knew what would be next. She looked at the red hair man running with her. "Run faster!" She barely got the words from her lips when fire exploded behind them, a few cars joining the show. A hiss came from her lips as her ears rang. Octavia ended up bumping the man with her shoulder trying to lead him to a building, hoping he would follow.

"Calm down, miss. I ain't a brain sucker nor a teenager during final exams. Yes, at the beginning of the apocalypse that's what I thought it was" Irwin said to the young woman currently pointing at him. "My name is Irwin Heisenberg, glad to see one more person alive".

Irwin looked at their surroundings, they were close to one of the main streets, right beside the hospital. The smell of rotten flesh was already bad outside, it must be horrible inside the hospital, where you don't really know what is actually dead or 'dead'. "You work there?" Irwin asked pointing at the hospital.

Yuri yelped as his ears rang wth the might of a thousand suns, he gritted his teeth as he narrowly missed getting blown up, and then looked back to see how many zombies were still left. He pulled up his AR, scoped downrange to any that could be left, before asking his new companion "who are you?

Having already put a significant dent in the horde. Dust slid down a drainpipe and touched down on the street. Dozens of zombies soon locked eyes with him as he drew his sword. Most would be utterly terrified at the sight of so many undead. Dust was ecstatic to have so many zombies to kill. Rushing at the nearest zombie. Dust took its head clean off with his blade before pivoting around and shooting another through the face. Five more closed in on him. However he took advantage of this to drop kick the lead zombie into the others. Finishing them off with head shots. Deciding to use his last two shots for something useful. Dust shot out the flimsy stand that held up a small watertank atop a nearby roof. Crushing a zombie underneath as it fell down and dousing the rest in water. Hooking a pair of jumper leads from his pack to a nearby fusebox and throwing them on to the water. The zombies were practically bathed in electricity as Dust admired the electrolysis of water...
