Literally the worst

-Humans-


 




Humans are the race with the most physical variance within the city, ranging on average from 5'2"- 5'9" for women and 5'7" - 6'1" for men, though outliers do exist. Skin color also varies widely, ranging from pale white (Caucasian) to dark brown (Black) with hair and eyes coming in a myriad of colors as well. Humans fall in-between the Olchris and the Anein in terms of strength, toughness, agility, and dexterity, having more of the first two than the Anein and more of the second two than the Olchris. Humans can have children with Anein, but not Olchris.

Humans are common in all districts, filling all sorts of Roles within them.


 




 


-Dyscopians-


 




The Dyscopians, often shorted to "Dyse" or "Scop(s)", are a race of sentient androids created by the other races. As such, they can take many forms depending on their function, from hulking behemoths to appearing nigh indistinguishable from the other races. However, regardless of this they must always have a visible identifier on their bodies to mark them as Dyscopians so that they aren't mistaken for living beings. These marks only require that there be a registration code but many large-scale manufacturers will include their logos as well. Smaller manufacturers, especially those people who build Dyscopians alone, tend to put tattoo-like marks on that fit the individual Dyscopian. One thing that remains the same no matter who creates them is that each Dyscopian is required to have a module that will force them to shut down or self destruct, depending on the maker, once the person registered as their owner is killed, no matter the cause. In order to own a Dyscopian one must receive an implant that monitors vitals so as to interact with the aforementioned module within the Dyscopian. Any Dyscopian found without an owner is immediately terminated and the law that all Dyscopians must have a kill module is strictly enforced, often meriting life imprisonment or death should it be violated. This is done due to the fear of a possible Dyscopian uprising due to the fact that Dyscopians need not eat or sleep and possess higher physical capabilities on average than the other races as well as the fact that, since they're made to serve the other races, they are treated as second-class citizens and face much discrimination, something that has caused discontent to build up quietly. Another reason for this fear is that, while Dyscopians are originally coded to have predispositions for certain areas, the advanced nature of their AI means that they will rapidly create their own personalities based on interactions and their environment. What this means is that manufacturers can influence a Dyscopian's interests and predispositions, but they cannot fully control or shape them.


 


Another thing of note is that, even though synthetic skin has been invented that makes Dyscopians look and feel organic, they are still mechanical, meaning that they do not heal over time and that they must be repaired if they sustain damage. That being said, Dyscopians also cannot get sick, become addicted to anything, be poisoned, become tired, feel pain, etc.


 


Dyscopians can be found in all districts but are only seen in servant, manual labor, or bodyguard type jobs above the Mid-City.


 




 


-Homunculi-


 



Homonculi are an odd race, if they can even be called a race as the term refers to lab-grown people who have been genetically engineered to fulfill a specific role. Such people are very rare as they are incredibly expensive to make despite the fact that the technology to practically genetically modify people has existed for decades. This is due to the fact that, in order to produce the desired results a Homunculus must be strictly monitored for their entire growth period, though it is radically shorter than for the other organic races, and they must take perfectly to each genetic modification. Due to this, in a batch of 100 embryos, a lab might only produce at best 10 true Homunculi. Furthermore, the makers have no say in a Homunculus' personality during creation which, when coupled with the fact that Homunculi tend to develop odd quirks, makes them less appealing than Dyscopians to many potential buyers. That being said, the fact that they're organic and don't require an owner, while still on average having higher abilities than the other organic races means that there is still a market for them, usually as covert operatives for the various factions. 


 


Due to the fact that they are lab-grown Homonculi can be made to be a member of any of the organic races and their physical traits can be customized to a certain degree, meaning that more different combinations of race, hair color, and eye color, and build are possible.

-Anein-


 




The Anein are physically characterized by their height, reaching between 6'0" - 6'3" for females and 6'4" - 6'7" for males on average, as well as their willowy, graceful builds, and most obviously, their long, pointed ears. The Anein are also, in general, more dexterous and agile than humans or olchris but lack the physical strength of the other two. Their hair, eyes, and skin all tend to be of lighter shades but those who don't follow this rule exist, especially those who have human genes in them (an anein and a human can have children together). Such Anein are called the Lowborn and and are looked down upon by the pure-blooded Anein, generally occupying positions subservient to said "Highborn" Anein. This attitude doesn't stop with just the Lowborn though, the Anein are known for being a proud and haughty race. Furthermore, they tend to be rather isolationist, not liking to spend time around the other races and keeping their affairs to themselves. As such, they are seen as a mysterious people, though some just call them sneaky.


 


Most Anein can be found in the Inner City and above, where many work in the higher levels of powerful groups and corporations, but a fair number reside in the Midcity as well. However, they are a rare sight in the Rim and a minuscule amount even venture down there, let alone live there. Part of the reason this is the way it is is because the Anein living in the Rim have been historically targeted to be forced to work in the brothels of the Rim, being a beautiful race on average. Of those who were captured, most eventually took their own lives as those who escaped were dealt with exceedingly harshly. Even now, it is incredibly dangerous to be an Anein in the Rim.


 







-Olchris-



 




The Olchris are a rather unfortunate race within the city, looked down upon by nearly every other race. Physically, the average Olchris is around the same height as humans but is more bulky throughout. They also tend to have greenish or grey skin, though some have skin resembling humans, and large canines that protrude from their lower jaws. Heavyset brows and naturally belligerent appearances are common as well, in addition to matching personalities. Another thing that is commonly attributed to the Ochris is a lack of intelligence. However, this is not so much due to any racial or genetic traits but rather due to the fact that the overwhelming majority of Olchris live in the Rim. A minuscule amount of them live in the Mid-city but those that do are relegated to the lowest-levels of jobs. That being said, the Olchris do have a some of advantages going for them. Their natural toughness and strength, generally above that of humans and Anein, makes them well-suited to being laborers and street muscle, meaning that getting jobs isn't too hard for them. Furthermore, their robust constitutions means that they get sick less than humans or Anein, and that they don't need as high-quality food. It is also important to note that the Olchris cannot have children with humans or Anein.


 


On a social level, family and loyalty is incredibly important to the Olchris, with very close friends, the kind who would die for each other, forming blood bonds. It is considered the highest of crimes to break one of these bonds or to betray your family. Any who do such are branded on the forehead with a mark signifying their crimes and are cast out, that is, if the enraged family and blood brothers/sisters of the betrayed don't kill them first.


 







 


 



-Hybrids-


 




Hybrids, like Homunculi, were originally a lab-grown life-form created to serve a purpose. They were made as a part of early experiments with genetic modification that were intended to create better soldiers by fusing animal genes with those of the other races. However, given the fact that Hybrids are able to bear Hybrid offspring they have become far more numerous than the Homunculi, though they are still rather rare. Also, despite the fact that they are a mix of one of the races with animal genes, Hybrids are considered their own separate race, which in turn means that Hybrids tend to face discrimination, especially in the higher Districts. As a result, Hybrids are found disproportionately in the Rim and cannot be found higher than the Mid-City unless they, like the Dyscopians, are in some sort of servant or Bodyguard-type role, though there are also several brothels that employ Hybrids to cater to the denizens of the Inner City with such tastes.

Overall, as a race, Hybrids look, for the most part, like the other races but with specific features from whatever animal they are mixed with such as ears, a tail, eyes, claws, wings, etc. (This means no anthropomorphic animals). Furthermore, they tend to have enhanced abilities than the other races (save for the Homunculi and Dyscopians), the exact nature of which depends on the animal they're mixed with. For example, a fish Hybrid will swim quickly and will likely be able to breathe underwater, a wolf Hybrid would have enhanced smell, a hawk Hybrid would have enhanced eyesight and likely be able to fly. Another thing of note is that the animal features that appear on a Hybrid vary from Hybrid to Hybrid, not all bird Hybrids have wings and not all cat Hybrids have tails, though many do.
