  * history

  Victoria was not a planned child, but she wasn't entirely unwelcome. Her mother had been told she would never have children, so the fact that she was pregnant at all was a shock. Still, she and Tori's father did everything they could to make her pregnancy as easy as possible, and nine months later, Tori was born happy and healthy. Unfortunately, though, her mother didn't stop bleeding. The doctors couldn't get it under control, and she was pronounced dead exactly thirty two minutes after Tori was born. Her father was utterly destroyed, because even after everything they'd done, the love of his life was gone. He could have put Tori up for adoption, and the thought did cross his mind, but ultimately he decided to keep her and raise her.
  
  Life for Tori wouldn't be all sunshine and roses, though. Her father moved them away from their hometown when she was still an infant, and they found Maple Grove. Because of her father and who he was, he immediately got in with the important people in town. Not because he was anyone famous, but more because of his 'I don't take no for an answer' personality, and the fact that he had family money. He became the mayor of Maple Grove when Tori was just a few years old, and her father being practically the most important man in the town is pretty much all Tori knows.
  
  While he loved his daughter, he loved prominence and power more. Raising his daughter became something he put on the back burner, letting nannies and whatnot take care of her. He always had this meeting to go to, that function to attend. She barely saw him unless he was courting someone new and brought them to family dinner to keep up appearances that he was a family man. As Tori got older, she started attending certain things with him, again when he needed to keep up appearances. At first, she thought he was really trying to get to know her since he'd missed out on so many years, but she quickly learned this wasn't the case.
  
  Being the mayor's daughter, she got away with certain things around town and she used that to her advantage. Underage drinking, smoking, partying. Anything she could to get her father's attention. But it seemed the harder she tried, the more he ignored her. Tori continued to try, though, even if she didn't want to admit to herself that that's what she was doing. She started dating at a young age, hanging out with the wrong crowd and even getting into trouble with the law. Everything was swept under the rug, since the mayor's daughter couldn't be responsible for all of those things.
  
  When Tori reached high school, she finally realized that being a rebel wasn't going to get her the attention she wanted. So instead of trying to get daddy's attention, she finally gave up and just decided that she was going to live her life for herself. She changed the way she dressed, changed the way she did her makeup and rose the ranks at the high school to become the Queen Bee. This gave her a different sort of satisfaction, and all the attention she could ever want. Her plan after high school was to grab some money and skip town, and that's actually what she did. But she came crawling back less than a year later when the real world slapped her in the face. She'll always be known around town as the girl who gets what she wants, but does she really?

  * history

  Adrian is as old as time itself, and perhaps even older, same as his three 'brothers'. Though they're not related by blood, they are truly brothers. They each control a season, and without them, the seasons and the world itself would go into chaos. Adrian controls the summertime, and good thing, too, because he hates anything to do with the opposite season. Snow, ice, the cold-- he hates it all. And with his loud, open personality, the summertime fits him much better. For the most part, he gets along with the others fairly well, though he does have a bit of a temper that leads to strife sometimes.
  
  While he didn't exactly have a mother who birthed him or have a childhood, he has still grown on his time on earth. He's had quite a few wives throughout the years, though they always die because he hasn't found his 'final' wife yet. Each time a wife of his dies, it breaks his heart a little more. He does truly love each of them, even if he doesn't fall in love with them. They're usually beautiful souls in one way or another, and once they're chosen and marked to become the wife of a season, their regular human life ends. He knows the rules, though-- only the 'final' wife will become immortal along his side.
  
  Deep down, he doesn't think he's ever going to find her. The world has been around for a long time now, and he can't even begin to count the number of women he's watched die. After the woman dies, he usually retreats back into himself for a short time, then bursts out of his room like nothing happened. It's just his way of dealing with things. Sometimes he does venture into the real world, outside of the home he shares with his brothers, to walk among humans. He likes seeing how far they've come since the beginning of time, and what better way than to get involved? Especially during the festival that happens in Maple Grove every hundred years.

If she is sad, it's gloomy cloudy, rather cold weather, with being happy and gleeful, sun shines beautifully, if she is angry, she can even bring the thunderstorm. And with her confusion, the weather might get confused too with all kinds of it hitting at once. Considering that she can also raise natural catastrophes connected to weather, not being control may even become destructive

  Backstory:
  
  Cari does not remember anything about her parents. For her, those people are simply dead. After all, they left her on the steps of a church right after she was born. A tiny baby with red locks of soft hair, newborn really, lying in a basket, squirming in her baby blanket, set on the steps. Thank god she was found on time because that night was particularly cold and the little girl would freeze to death if she stayed there any longer. But as usual, a child without parents was entered into the system.
  
  Carina grew up in a foster home. She was one of those lucky-unlucky children who were adopted. Several times even. But three times, she was returned back to the group home because her foster parents finally managed to conceive a child of their own. The last time, they returned her due to her rebellious outbursts. Well, they were not exactly outbursts as one would expect as she was not a mean brat, but rather a curious youngling. Sitting around was almost impossible and the fact that she was never diagnosed with ADHD was almost a miracle and quite unbelievable to many. Carina was simply a lively child with great imagination and she wanted to see the world.
  
  Her illusions, however, withered a little when she had to return to the group home for the fourth time. She was a famous name already and kids whispered. Her reputation suffered a lot and since she was “that kid who couldn’t keep a family”, most of the other kids turned their backs on her, considering her a troublemaker. And no one wanted to be associated with troublemakers if they should have a chance for a good family. In the end, Cari was all alone, she closed herself into the world of books and dreams and every day, those dreams were getting bigger and bigger, the bubble was growing and Cari was enclosed inside in her wildest fantasies.
  
  The library in their group home was not anything exquisite and there were not many exciting books but Carina still managed to find a few of them she fell in love with. Alice in Wonderland, for one. The story was so captivating that Cari found herself reading it over and over again, day or night, her big almond eyes devouring pages of the old worn book until the girl started to believe, truly believe in miracles. Ignoring the fact that other kids avoided her, she was walking around, her head held high, holding onto her copy of Alice. Her mouth was always full of repeating the same stories over and over again. The caretakers decided to step in when her “nonsense” became way too much and in belief that they were going to “cure” her from her delusions, they were locking her in dark rooms and closets for hours. It was the time she developed panic fear from darkness and enclosed spaces.
  
  Come her eighteen birthday, she was ready and the second she put her clothes on, the redhead left the foster home with nothing but one bag of her humble possessions and, of course, Alice. Her bubble of fantasies had burst some time ago but her desire to explore the world and find the greatest adventure of her life was blooming in her. The second she walked out of the gate of hated foster home, she felt the shackles fall and with the loudest laughter, she left the dreaded place forever.
  
  Fast forward a few years, Carina was celebrating her second year in the small town of Maple Grows. How she got there, she couldn’t say exactly but it had something to do with traveling across the States, hitchhiking the rides, working part-times in diners, sleeping in seedy motels. And Dean. The dreamy boy by her side whom she met in St. Louis, spilling her steaming black coffee all over his shirt. Hallmark movie, hello. As it happened, he was also a traveler and naturally, after a series of small meetings, they left St. Louis together, hand in hand. And now, Maple Grove became their new home where they decided to spend their lives, get married, set up their little family. Should be easy like that…right?

  Backstory:
  
  Walking the Earth for almost as long as it existed had its perks. Though to Arthur, it seemed that the disadvantages were now rather prevailing. There was nothing he had not seen before, nothing that could surprise him now and if you asked the vampire, all he needed to do was just to learn to use this new technology. Other than that, things were always the same because people were the same. Every now and then, history repeated itself and in his very long life, Arthur had experienced it only way too many times. Ask Arthur how old he was and he would never tell you the exact number. The truth is, he himself already forgot because he was simply...ancient. He had traveled the world, literally, every place imaginable, he did everything there was, worked all jobs and tasted all foods. And yes, they all tasted the same. Like ash. But a vampire could hope, right?
  
  Centuries, even millennia ago, there lived a boy called Aegeus. He was full of ideas, full of hopes and dreams and most of all, he lived in Ancient Greece. Exactly the toga-wearing boy clad in sandals we all know from historical movies and books. Aegeus had only one ultimate dream. To serve his country trained harder than anyone, wanted to defend his country. It was so long ago that only the fact that he had always kept journals was allowing him to remember the man he used to be. Honorable, loyal, devoted. Aegeus of Athens. His name. The real one. The man he used to be before his life was turned upside down. In his devotion to his city and defending it against enemies, Arthur was in the front line of the defense, determined to lay down his life for Athens. And he did. Well, in a way. He thought he did because he still remembered that long spear piercing through his guts, burning, searing, tearing his insides. And then it all went dark. He was sure that was it. And yet, he woke up. All he remembered was that he was hungry. More than ever before.
  
  Ever since that day, Arthur was roaming the world as the creature of the night. It took years and years for him to finally discover the magic of a daylight ring. His sire helped him a lot. She was a kind, beautiful soul. A nurse. And she taught him a lot. Back then, vampires were not exactly a thing, Arthur had no idea how to envelope his mind around the whole idea of being someone who consumes nothing but blood. But Viktoria helped him. She taught him everything she knew so Arthur could rejoin the world. It was Viktoria who turned him, it was her who got her hands on it when dying young man was brought to live his final moments. But one look at his handsome face and she knew. She knew he was her fate.
  
  Only she was taken away from him too soon. Turning into a vampire, it strengthens every feature you possessed as a human. You become stronger, faster, brighter, your senses are sharper than ever. Arthur became more loyal, more devoted, more determined but also...deadly. In his striving for cleaning the earth from scum, he lost his way and for a time, he became a killer. For decades, he could not tame his hunger. Until he figured out a way to satiate it. His persona of perfectionist became protruding to the deadly point. He had always been a soldier and so the army was the answer. He traveled the world, joined all battles, changed his name all the time and fought for everyone who he deemed worthy. With his training, he had no problem becoming a captain of his own unit. And he simply fought.
  
  All that happening on the background of who he really became before he became the soldier. Becoming a vampire in a time when no one really knew about the creatures of the night was one thing. But they existed, of course. Unruly brutal creatures with no self-control. And someone like Arthur could never let that happen and so he created the first court. He tried to unite the blood sucking creatures under his reign. Being in the army made him orderly but being a vampire only strengthened it. Art radiated that natural respect and his cold, almost regal demeanor had the other vamps follow him. For the first time, the vampires united under one man whom they started to call their King.
  
  As the centuries went by, Arthur was, naturally, getting older but with age, his strength grew as well. He and his court traveled around the world, changed their names and expanded. Yet, it was not like the vampires ruled the whole world. There were other species in the world as well and there was no way werewolves, merfolk or elves would ever allow vampires to rule over them. The agreement was made, every species got their own season when their King would come forward and rule over it. With his stoic nature, it was only fitting that cold-blooded King was assigned Winter and Art didn’t protest. The Council of Four Kings was actually very much peaceful and they came to an agreement without fighting and bloodshed. And now, the only thing Arthur misses in his kingdom is her. The one and only.   Just a few days after her birth, Jolene was left on the front steps of the only fire department in the small town of Lynchburg, Tennessee. It was storming and cold that night, and she nearly froze to death. However, the station dog, a collie named Mia, heard her muffled cries and barked at the door until her owner, Captain Marco Soriano, finally went to check it. He immediately took the small child to the hospital in town and stayed with her until she was deemed healthy. No one in town came to claim her, and so they called the state child services department to come find a home for him. By that point, however, Captain Soriano was attached. He and his late wife, who had passed away from cancer the year prior, had always wanted a child. But they were unable to conceive. In honor of her, he decided to adopt the infant and name her Jolene, after his wife's favorite song.
  
  Captain Soriano was already in his mid-50s by the time he adopted Jolene. They, along with Mia, were the only family the other had, and grew up quite close. He taught her everything she needed to know about taking care of herself: basic survival skills, how to shoot a gun, hand-to-hand combat, how to hunt, how to change a tire or the oil in a car. In return, Jolene took care of her adoptive father: cooked dinner, cleaned the house, and after he retired from the station, made sure he went to all his doctor's appointments. In high school, she worked part-time for the police department as a file clerk, which is where she developed her interest in criminology.
  
  After graduating from high school, Jolene wanted to study criminal sciences to become a cop in the future, to kind of follow in her father's footsteps. Unfortunately, her father was a fairly heavy drinker after retiring. He wasn't sad or angry. Rather, he had a membership to the Jack Daniels Distillery in town and intended to 'get his money's worth,' or so he would say. Unfortunately, that combined with years of firehouse drinking took a toll on his liver. Captain Soriano was in the beginning stages of liver failure and Jo knew she had to be there to take care of her father, regardless of what she wanted to do with her life. So, instead of going off to university, she took online classes at home and graduated a few years later with a degree in criminal justice.
  
  Unfortunately, Captain Soriano's liver disease got worse. Shortly after her graduation, at the age of 75, her father passed away peacefully in his sleep. With her only family gone, Jolene realized she had no more ties to the small town of Lynchburg, and she wanted to see the rest of the world for herself. She decided to use her degree and the things her father taught her, hop on the road in her dad's old Ford Ranger, and become a bounty hunter. It was a job that took her to all the small and hidden places across the country, letting her see the undersides of the world that tourists and unfamiliars didn't normally get to see. Though she was alone, Jolene rather enjoyed life on the road. But she always made sure to return to Lynchburg on her father's birthday to visit his grave.

  A couple of years into her bounty hunter travel, Jolene met a man named Charlie Barnes. He worked as a bartender in a seedy tavern in the bad part of one of the towns she was hunting in. The two hit it off and, without money for a hotel that night, Jo decided to go home with him. They began dating, which and the blonde bounty hunter found herself settling into a single town for the first time in a while. What she didn't realize at the time was that Charlie was filling the hole in her heart from the lack of family and loss of her loved ones. She had someone who cared about her and her well-being, called her after hunts to make sure she was okay, and cuddled with her at night. She had a family again. And Jo did not want to let that go.
  
  So, about a year into their relationship, when Charlie asked her to marry him, Jolene immediately said 'Yes.' She should have seen the red flags, the late nights at the bar that would turn into him not coming home that night, the unsaved numbers in his phone that would randomly text throughout the day, the smell of perfume. But she didn't want to see them, didn't want to believe something more sinister was going on. Unfortunately, though, she was forced to. One night, Jolene had finished up a hunt earlier than expected. It was around the time of their anniversary, and she wanted to surprise Charlie. So, she picked up a bottle of bourbon and their favorite takeout before heading home.
  
  Upon unlocking the front door, Jo could hear the music, the sounds of two people in the bedroom that most certainly weren't her and her fiance. She dropped the food and booze on the counter, slamming into their bedroom to find Charlie in bed with another woman. He tried to explain, but Jolene didn't give him the option. Instead, she grabbed her go-bag from the hall closet, got into her pick-up truck, and drove away. She had no idea where she was going, so she kept driving. Upon stopping to pawn her engagement ring for money, Jo caught wind of a large bounty in a town called Maple Grove where some escaped criminal was hiding out. Without a second thought, she took off towards New England.
  
  The bounty has proven harder to catch than she originally thought. So, she took up residence in a month-to-month studio apartment above a bar where she works part-time while picking up intel. She's grown close to several members of the town, who seemed to welcome her with open arms and not question where she came from or why. Jo has grown to truly love Maple Grove, but she just can't bring herself to settle down, not again, not after what happened last time. So, as soon as she takes the escaped criminal into the station, she would be gone again, with no destination in sight.   Before humans had even thought of the concept of time, Asher had existed. As the Elven son of Mother Nature, he was raised in the ethereal forest surrounded by a realm of flora fauna. He doesn't remember much of his childhood, those 25 years or so being a mere blip in the time frame he had existed. But, from what he does remember, Mother was a very kind and generous person who taught him everything he needed to know about running an entire species. As she had said, everyone had a purpose in life, and his just happened to be more important that some others. As the goddess of the forest and the harvest, she needed some under her to take care of the autumnal season when she was away. Asher was that being.
  
  Satisfied that her son was well-equipped and able to run his kingdom, Mother Nature left to empower others with elven powers. She single-handedly created the entire Elven race who appreciated and lived for taking care of nature. And for a while, it was exciting, especially with the movement in between his realm and the Earth realm. But soon, Asher had traveled the world several times over, had seen everything that could be seen, and nothing that the elves or humans created inspired or surprised him anymore. It was like a cycle, a story being retold again and again until he knew every possible outcome, every possible ending.
  
  At some point shortly after the beginning of his reign over the seasons, Asher was introduced into his brothers: three other supernatural seasons who covered the other seasons. While he found himself the Elven King of the fall, his mermaid brother oversaw the summer, the vampire in charge of the winter, and the werewolf in tune with spring. They were the Leaders of the Seasons, had a large castle in their own kingdom with a wing for each of them. Asher spent most of his time reading every book that had ever been written, painting until he had to start repainting and painting over his canvases, and learning every instrument he could find. And still, he was bored and alone.
  
  Needing something new in his life, Asher began to look for someone to love, someone to run his kingdom with him. He knew there was a prophecy, an end-game bride that he was supposed to find who would become immortal and run the Fall Kingdom with him forever. Without a wife at the 100-year mark, the seasons could fall into disarray and the realms would be destroyed. He walked the Earth realm until he found a beautiful human named Caroline. She agreed to return to his kingdom with him, was generally an amazing person and everything he could have wanted. But Asher couldn't bring himself to fall in love with her. She wasn't the prophesized wife he had been searching for. The trouble with humans is their mortality, and in less than 100 years, she was gone.   There was a small civilization the became very connected with the Kingdom of the Four Seasons, and soon they create an annual festival to pay homage to the four kings. It was a week out of the year, where supernatural and humans alike came together to celebrate their small town with music, games, competitions, food, dancing, and ending in a ball. While the founders knew of the ball's true intentions, fewer and fewer passed on the story through the generations. The kings of the four seasons decided that everyone 100 years or so, this ball was there chance to going into the Earth realm and find a human or supernatural bridge to take back with them. And so they did.
  
  Asher had several wives over the years, beautiful women who were smart, kind, one with nature, and seemingly perfect for the likes of them. He loved all of them, truly cared for them, and wanted the best for them. But none of them seemed to be the prophesized "One" he was supposed to fall in love with and spend the rest of immortality with. After they die, Ash often finds that he loses a piece of himself. He throws his mind back into painting, spending several years focusing on that as well as catching up on reading and music. He becomes a bit of a recluse for a while until he feels well enough to try again. One day he will find his true love.   Marissa was born and raised in Meadow Grove, and the first 18 years of her life were straight out of a storybook. Born to two loving parents, she is the youngest in her family, with an older brother and sister who always watched over her. Her father worked as a doctor, providing a comfortable living for the family, while her mother raised Marissa and her siblings. If it weren’t for her mother’s allergy to dogs, the family would have had one and completed the cookie cuter lifestyle.
  
  When Marissa was 12, a new family moved in next door, and that’s when she met James Locke, the boy who would grow to be the man she would one day marry. After a couple years of pretending they thought the other had cooties, the two became inseparable by the end of middle school and officially started dating their freshmen year. After knowing each other for 6 years, James proposed to Marissa at Senior prom and she excitedly accepted.
  
  Meadow Grove was a place where people grew up happy, got good educations, fell in love, got married and had kids (as quoted from Tink), so the young couple’s marriage wasn’t terribly unusual. If anything it was almost expected.

  Just in case, trigger warning:
  
  While James and Marissa were planning their wedding, James became sick. At first they both thought it was just from stress, but after Marissa’s father insisted that James let him perform a medical exam, they learned that wasn’t the case. James had cancer.
  
  Marissa didn’t talk to her father for a week after he was the one to break the news, partly blaming him for ruining everything by making James get checked. James had to begin treatment immediately, and he told Marissa that they could call off the wedding. He didn’t want to be a burden to her, but she refused to leave him to battle alone.
  
  Despite all the plans they’d made for a grand wedding, the two were instead married in a small ceremony three months after James began chemo. For months James and Marissa practically lived in the hospital rather than the flat they’d bought together after graduation. Plans for college and the future were put on hold as the newlyweds took everything day by day. Unfortunately, Marissa’s young husband lost his battle within the first year though, a few weeks shy of their anniversary. Marissa spent what should have been their first anniversary crying over James’s gravestone until her parents found her and dragged her home. That was the last time she cried.
  
  After a month of living in her childhood bedroom and hiding from the world, Marissa picked herself back up and did her best to move on. Unfortunately, the Marissa that originally bought the apartment with her childhood sweetheart was not the same woman who returned to it, now alone.

  Nowadays, Marissa ignores the heartbreak of her past by avoiding new relationships and throwing herself into work. She never ended up attending college, so she’s become a realtor in town, and a pretty successful one at that. She has a knack for talking people into houses they might not have considered and sells the houses she shows within the week of being listed.
  
  Marissa’s siblings have both married and have children of their own. Her niece and nephew are Marissa’s favorite family members because they’re the only ones who don’t nag her or check up on her wellbeing every time they see her. Between the blind dates her sister tries to set her up on and the judgmental looks from her brother every time she has more wine than everyone else, Marissa tries to avoid family gatherings as much as possible. She does love babysitting though- not like she has much of a nightlife anyways outside of dinner with clients.   Alarick has been alive for so long he has grown bored with the monotony of life. He’s become a brooding man, finding more entertainment in being ornery and shirking his responsibilities than leading as a King. He still does what is expected of him to maintain the seasons, but it’s the bare minimum these days. Alarick is quick to anger at any given moment, though he isn’t always in a foul mood. The closer to a Full Moon, the better his mood. Though as the moon wanes closer to the New Moon, his mood worsens. Don’t even try to reason with him during the New Moon, you’re apt to get your head bit off. Figuratively...
  
  For the last three hundred years or so, Alarick has pretty much given up hope that his next bride will be the one to share eternity with him. He enjoys the company of his wives, but he no longer tries to form a bond with women. To protect himself from the pain, Alarick has done his best to detach himself from deeper emotions.   In the early centuries of Alarick’s Rule as the King of Spring, he took his role very seriously and respected the crown he’d been given. He led his people, the Werewolves, well, helping to maintain the peace and balance in the four lands with his brothers. He loved each of his first few wives fiercely, and mourned them fiercely when they died while he remained youthful. His emotions were worn on his sleeve, expressed to their fullest.
  
  As the centuries went on though, Alarick began to see his immortality as a burden rather than a gift, and his lust for life started to dim. This change didn’t happen overnight, but rather gradually. He became less responsible and more reckless, searching for adrenaline rushes to make him feel something. It is about this time in the Late Middle Ages that his people started to become bolder and leave the land ruled by Alarick. Werewolves began moving to the human world, causing chaos to both kinds as they tried to find a way to live together without killing each other. Dealing with his own internal battle, Alarick let the natural order sort itself out in the human world, and his slow descent into his current way of life and beliefs began.

  After thousands of years of being a King, Alarick has grown weary of his role. His leadership style has become more hands off, letting the Werewolves govern themselves for the most part. These days he serves as a figurehead and does what is needed to keep the seasons in balance, but that’s pretty much it. Call it a midlife crisis or his rebellious teenage years, one doesn’t quite know where ones at when immortal, but Alarick has been pushing the limit of what he can get away with lately. His last few wives have warned his bed until they began to grow old, and then he distances himself from them, serving more as company to talk to than a husband. The pain of losing those he cares about has become too much, so his choice of wives is more at random than for compatibility.   Alarick is a Werewolf, and as such can take the shape of a large wolf, twice the size, if not more, of an average one. In his wolf form he is incredibly strong, fast and durable. Even as a human his strength and speed surpasses that of mortals. He has self-healing abilities that makes even the most lethal injury nothing but a flesh wound.

  During a Full Moon Alarick transforms into a Werewolf against his will and looses almost all of his humanity to the beast within. He is dangerous and has little to no control over his actions.

Once he was gravely injured during a New Moon and was in a coma for 6 months before his body was able to recover from the injuries sustained while in such a vulnerable state.
