  Prelude

  In the year 2793 C.E. the Earth was finally united. The various nations of the planet had finally come together, uniting under a single banner. Unfortunately, it was far too late. Just after sunrise on the first day of summer, an anomaly was detected. A supernova detected within the milky way, less than 20 lightyears away. It was immediately reported to the world government, and a lengthy period of preparation was put under way. For ten years, the government worked in secret to establish a means of preserving humanity. It was decided that a lottery would be held, and those who won would be given a chance to travel among the stars aboard an ark. These winners would be placed in cryostasis pods aboard the ark to be awoken when a suitable planet was found. Additionally, a crew of selected individuals would be chosen to run the operation aboard the vessel and run the mission seeking a new home.
  
  After the public was made aware, civilization began breaking down, with the government having to utilize a great many resources to maintain control. The lottery had begun, and the people were furious at the likelihood of the lottery being reserved for the wealthy. The plan was to send three arcs, but due to the difficulties with the populace and unforeseen complications, only one was ever completed. As time ran out, a few teams were put together, with another batch of crew members who would be put into stasis as backup crew who would take over when and if the time came. With only five years before the estimated destruction of the planet, the ark was sent, carrying roughly 100, 000 humans, with hopes of establishing a new colony somewhere else in the distance universe. Where humanity could prosper again.

  The Beginning

  
  
  The journey was long. After a preliminary period 3 months, the crew of the Orpheus also went into cryostasis, setting up automatic controls with the ship's AI, Mother, to ensure the safety and maintenance of the ship during the journey. The Orpheus and its crew continued onward for 117 years before the crew was disturbed again, needing to see to any repairs Mother couldn't handle. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the crew couldn't risk putting themselves into cryostasis for a long period of time again, instead opting to keep working and trying to keep the voyage going. The crew now must adjust to their new lives, and prepare for any and all possibilities that the universe has in store for them.

  Human

  Humanity. The apex lifeform from the planet Earth. They are versatile and adaptable, equipped mentally and physically to endure harsh environments and learn to excel in a variety of situations. They are bipedal, with a pair of arms, legs, ears, and eyes, and very in their appearance significantly. They have skin tones ranging from pale as snow to dark as a moonless night. Males of the species are generally larger and stronger than the females. They prefer strong communities and family units, though isolation and solitude are both features they are able to adapt well to. They are also quite culturally diverse, with a multitude of previous cultures and faiths from their home planet that carry on into the future in one form or another.

  Android

  
  
  Synthetic humanoids. Androids were created to be subservient to their creators, seeing to their various needs. They mostly serve in assistant roles, but are often also used as guards and soldiers as well. These machines are directly connected to Mother, and while they have their own degree of sentience, the Ai of the Orpheus can issue direct commands to them. It is possible for them to disobey, but the fundamental laws of robotics apply to their base programming. Outside of direct interference, they are incapable of killing humans. That being said, they are able to defend themselves if need be. They can be made to replicate existing humans or from scratch, but can also be made to replicate other humanoids. Generally, androids are designed to simply imitated humans, but some have been made fully in the image of their creators. These androids are able to pass as human, with synthetic skin covering their bodies. However, instead of blood and organs, they have a white synthetic fluids and technology.

  OOC Message

  Hello! I am looking for at least 5 people to play the primary crew, but I would be happy to have additional people as well. The core concept of this rp is to explore both the trials of the people managing this mission and the things they have to deal with, as well as to integrate into a greater sci-fi universe by introducing additional elements. I expect this rp to be a long term one, likely with some people coming and going. I also anticipate that even with the same players being around, it's likely that characters will be cycled as some die (or the player just wants to retire them) or becoming NPC's. This is partly due to the chaotic nature of the universe that I am aiming to replicate, but also because I am planning to introduce other races during the lifetime of the rp.

  1. If this takes off, I will be making a discord and adding lore here and additional content there as well. If you join, you will be expected to be active in the discord, at least for communication purposes.
  2. Please follow all rules of the host site.
  3. Be respectful of others. We are all here to have fun. Keep any issues with other players out of the game. If you have problems, bring them to me and we will try and remedy them.
  4. You may play as many PC's as you can manage. Characters will likely be cycling anyway. Try not to overburden yourself, though.
  5. Be fair. Be a sporting player. Don't make characters without weaknesses or flaws. Don't power game. Again, the goal is for everyone to have fun, and that is difficult to do when you make it so your fellow players can't do anything.
