The Shadow Archives

This thread is designed to give the active posters as much space as they want, while also keeping the main thread at a stable pace for everyone involved. This thread is meant for interactions that only involve a few players, or ones that do not really fit into the main story. If you wan to go on side quests, or have extra character face time with other characters, this is the place to post.
Running interactions in this thread has a few instructions, but I will never limit the posting quantity here.

1. You must put the location and time of your interaction in every post, and who the interaction involves. The time relates to the events in main, so for example

Location: Montmartre cafe
Time: Before the salon performance
Characters: Giselle & Krishna

2. You must colour your text for that specific interaction in every post, so people can separate the ones that might be occurring at the same time. It helps to put the colour code in the information to, so the others involved can match your colour.

3. You must tag the people you are interacting with, so they know you want their attention.

That's it! Please have fun! All the conduct rules mentioned in the original thread apply.

The clouds were still peppering the sky, but it had warmed a little. Trees blossomed along the riverside, camped in little squares of dirt, surrounded by a flat spread of cobbles. The air was sweet with the scent of those flowers and Thaddeus took it in happily, though the market brought many more fantastic aromas. He had been waiting for some time to acquire ingredients for his new dishes and here they were, at each stall, just waiting for him to sniff them out. Notre Dame stood proud and tall in the distance, on her little island in the middle of the Seine.
He had extended the invite to anyone who was interested, because there wasn't just food at the market, but crafts, fabrics and tools, anything and everything that a person, rich or poor might need.
Thaddeus clutched a small basket in one hand and tilted the brim of his green felt top hat with the other. Today was a good day, he could feel it.

Under normal circumstances, Gabriel wouldn't have made it to this little meeting, because he would have been sleeping off a hangover. Due to the unexpected second murder, however, he'd had no more than two glasses the previous night, which enabled him to get up relatively early. There was a lot to explore in Paris and the market would be as good a place to start as any other; besides Thaddeus seemed to be the natural leader of the group and since he had extended the invitation, it would probably be a good thing to show up. It wouldn't hurt to be on good terms at least with some of his colleagues, he guessed. They'd hardly had time for introductions in the salon, much less an actual conversation.

The weather was remarkably nice, which made the day a good one for taking Sir William Florence for a little walk - on a leash, because chances were that he'd end up getting lost or stolen otherwise. Every now and then, people would stop and stare, or even whisper and point, but Gabriel was used to that and the ferret didn't care, minding its own business as his hind legs rhytmically clicked on the pavement. Thaddeus was easy to spot, not only because the market was only sparsely populated, but also because there weren't many people with a mane, beard and moustache as rich yet well-kept as his. Gabriel approached him with a polite nod, touching the rim of his top hat. "Good morning, Mr. Grey. I trust you had a good rest?" he smiled; so much for boring plesantries. "It was nice of you to invite us here, I found it quite unfortunate that our introductions have been cut short last night."

Giselle

It was a lovely day. The sky was peppered with clouds, and it was warm enough to walk around with only her paisley shawl-- no need for furs and muffs. Thaddeus had extended an invitation to the team to take a walk in the market, and she was enthused. Giselle was taking the opportunity to point out sites of interest-- historical curiosities and also her own personal favorite locales --to anyone on the team who would deign to listen. She was intimately familiar with which shops and stalls sold the city's finest crepes, with cafés had the best coffee, the best conversation, and the best scandals.

"And that little nightclub there is for gentlemen only. I've never been in it, of course, they wouldn't allow it, but the talk is that the wine is good, the men are better. Probably quite different from what you all get in England, given that it's legal, here." It was the briefest of snippets, one anecdote out of many, and in a moment she had already moved on, but it was out there.

It was easier to pretend that she wasn't scared of these people, in the light of day. It was easier to pretend that they were all a group of friends, just on a walk in the market, seeing the sights and shopping. She couldn't quite imagine being comfortable enough to discuss haberdashery with Madame Bowles or browse art galleries with Madame Byng, and she found it was best for her peace of mind if she vaguely ignored Michael, entirely-- but still.

Thaddeus turned at the voice and his face bloomed into a gentle smile. "Mr. Gladstone, happy to have you along." His eyes dropped to the little creature walking on a leash beside them, and the to the masterful additions, making up for the ferret's damaged lower body.
"I say! That is incredible. Did you do this?" He knelt, placing his basket on the ground to inspect the work more closely and put his hand out to the ferret. The gesture was tentative, even timid. Animals tended not to be very fond of werewolves. They knew what lurked beneath the layer of control...
"Does he have a name?"

He had been listening to Giselle's commentary with dedicated attention, soaking up every bit of the details she presented. This was Sebastian's home, and knowing more about it made him seem closer somehow, without drawing on the pain.
"... talk is that the wine is good, the men are better." Thaddeus choked, and such a flurry of expressions danced across his face that it was hard to tell what he was thinking.
"Indeed." He managed carefully. "Well, we shan't go a place where not all of our company would be welcome...what about that little cafe there?"
It was on a corner, beside a book shop, and in the square in front several musicians in rough-spun clothes played accordions and fiddles and around them, several people were dancing. The atmosphere was quaint and lively.

In the darkest corner of the café, near the very back, dressed all in black and wearing blue-tinted shades, sat Krishna. He looked, for all intents and purposes, like a nefarious villain. His dark head was ducked behind the daily paper, examining the most recent events around Paris. In front of him sat a black coffee with exactly two teaspoons of sugar, and on the chair next to him was a wide-brimmed felt top hat and a black scarf.
Krishna fumbled a hand out to pick up his coffee, and to anyone watching it disappeared for a moment behind the paper, then was blindly placed back down.
The most recent murder had been printed already, the events of the automaton exposition described through another attendee's experience, and Krishna gleaned the column for any details that perhaps their unit had not managed to pick up--unlikely, but no harm in checking.

A jingle above the door had him glancing overtop the paper to see someone had come through the door.
Thaddeus had invited them all to the market earlier, perhaps as a kind of diverting bonding tactic, perhaps because he genuinely wished to know them all better. Krishna hardly knew anyone in their team aside from Lilith, his only other memorable interactions being with Ms. Margaret Bowles and Mr. Gabriel Gladstone. And one of them had done a very convincing job of trying to break his arm.
Regardless, while Krishna had no interest in wandering around in broad daylight with the accursed sun beating down on him, he had chosen a café near the Marche to sit at and bide his time. Truthfully, Krishna missed the sunshine; almost all his childhood memories of India had sunshine in them, hot and purifying. Thinking of never feeling its warm rays on his face again tended to draw his humor to a very sad and tired place, so he did his utmost not to dwell on such things. It hurt even simply to look too long out of the bright windows near the door.
Instead, Krishna turned back to his paper, picked up his coffee, and took another sip.

Gabriel gave Tadd a genuine smile; it always warmed his heart when someone happened to like Sir William. He was his pride and joy, a one-of-a-kind (and very loveable) combination of life and science. It might have been Tadd's pleasant, loving voice, or the fact that the ferret obviously lacked self-preservation instinct, but either way he allowed the werewolf to pet him without protests.

"His name is Sir William Florence," Gabriel announced in all seriousness. "He was practically roadkill when I found him, victim of a careless carriage driver. Luckily for both of us, I was able to give him all these nifty upgrades..." He chose not to mention any gruesome details of the surgery, or the fact that Sir William hadn't been found by chance; Gabriel was often on the lookout for unfortunate animals to... Well, save, if things worked out.

Giselle turned out to be an equally pleasant company; it could have been her youth, but she seemed to have enough energy for three other girls. As long as she was around, explaining and describing everything they saw, a moment of awkward silence had no chance of disrupting the day. And then, out of the blue, she just happened to casually mention what must have been a nightclub for homosexual men as openly as Gabriel might have, giving Taddeus the shock of his life. He had to bite his lip to keep himself from laughing and turned away from the other man, giving the building a side glance with the intention to store it in his memory for later.

"Oh, I quite agree," he said non-chalantly, his voice a little more cheerful than before. "It is not the time of day for wine and men. Well, for wine, maybe, it's never too early for that, but definitely not men... Crépés sound lovely, though." As they walked toward the café Giselle had pointed out earlier, he added, somewhat longingly: "It must be nice to live in such a free-thinking country. The English certainly love their rules. And their monarchs. And their God."

Oh fantastic. A trip into the city with these...people... Why did I even bother coming here again? Oh....Right...

Michael sighed deeply, already tired of their company. But he couldn't just let them wander off on their own, unfortunately. The binding and the Oaths he ad sworn wouldn't allow much in the way of relaxing when he knew something or other might happen to them. He hoped it would, and he would have a front row seat, but he couldn't allow it to happen, or cause it himself. Such a bore. He was a ways behind the others, watching them mostly. Sure it might look as though he were stalking a particular group of people but he never cared what others might think anyway, least of all the human cattle around him. He wasn't close enough to hear their conversations, but as they wound their way through the streets they eventually moved towards a cafe. Well, hopefully they would at least have something fun to drink. He had to give credit where it was due, the one and only tolerable thing humans ever did was making interesting food and drinks. He didn't need them of course, but the flavors could be at least enjoyable.

He walked in moments after the others, having ducked into an alleyway nearby and changed his form before entering. Now in the guise of a younger man in his twenties of Asian descent, someone he had hunted down once before, he stepped inside. His eyes, however, hadn't changed. A 'Tell' he had developed over the years without ever realizing it himself. The same icy sapphire blue surveyed the room and found the other members of their 'team'. He took a seat nearby to keep an eye on them and managed to make off with someone else's drink with a little slight of hand and a well placed trick of the light.

Lilith Beaumont
A lone figure stood beside the river bank, gazing out across the glimmering waters. There were few clouds and the sun was warm and bright. As lovely as the weather was, sunshine was not something a vampire could enjoy. Lilith was dressed in a deep navy blue, high-collared dress, and wore a veiled, hat decorated in flowers, to shield her face from the light. As an extra precaution, she also carried a lacy, black parasol, opened up above her head.
Cautiously, she reached out a gloved hand into the sunlight, feeling the gentle warmth on the palm of her hands. If she was without protection, this warm light that she liked very much, would have burnt her to a crisp.

Turning away from the river, Lilith approached the main market area, where she almost immediately sensed the presence of another vampire in the vicinity. The vampire paused for a second, before changing direction towards the other presence - whom she assumed was Krishna. After all, their little party had been invited to the market place by Thaddeus... so it made sense that her fellow tainted was also in the area. The chances of there being rogue vampire was rare - as few vampires would venture out in such annoying weather if they had the choice.

It was a short walk to the cafe, and as she entered, Lilith cast her eyes around and spied the dark figure in the corner of the room, half hidden behind newspaper. She recognized the hat and scarf that sat in the chair next to the other vampire. The corners of her lips twitched slightly at how terribly suspicious he looked, huddled in the shadows and dressed from head to toe in black. Then again, she thought, she was not much better.

After handing her parasol to one of the waiters, the vampire approached the Krishna's table. Carefully, she removed her hat, smoothing out her hair with one hand. "Fancy meeting you here, Mr. Jameson," she started in a gentle voice, lips parting in a smile. "I don't suppose this seat is taken?"

The voice did not startle him, though if he were human he was certain it would have. He had heard her come in, though he hadn't known it was Lilith until she'd spoken. Krishna bent his paper so he could look up at her, a soft, warm smile at one corner of his mouth.
"It would be my pleasure to indulge in such fine company, Ms. Beaumont."
He folded his paper and put it to the side, then stood and picked up his hat and scarf. A step to the left put him out from behind the table, then he pulled out the chair his hat had been resting on and gestured for Lilith to take a seat. His eyes caught the man serving behind a quaint little bar and he gestured with a small motion of the head that the server's presence would shortly be needed.
"I imagine you are here at Mr. Grey's thoughtful invitation." His eyes lowered. "Am I correct in assuming that you are also unused to such invitations nowadays?"
The Order's doors had been opened to him, and they had been thorough in their training and attention--but this was still a job, and vampires were certainly not a favourite among The Order's members. Party invitations were not administered like sweets to a child.
Krishna sat once more, crossing one leg over the other and balancing his hat and scarf on one knee, the dark blue shades hiding any expression that might have been found in his obsidian eyes.
"Though I've seen you around The Order, we never did have much time to talk, you and I. How have you found The Order? And--forgive me if this is intrusive--how have you found being...different?

Lilith Beaumont
Upon being offered a seat, Lilith accepted with a curtsy and gracefully lowered herself into the chair. She took a moment to run a hand over her dress, smoothing out the soft, navy material.

"Regarding Mr Grey's invitation, I would be lying if I said I was not taken aback," the vampire responded softly, after a moment of thought, "it is indeed quite rare to be invited out like this by a colleague." She regarded Krishna with a kind gaze, though her eyes were watchful, studying his expression closely. Lilith felt it somewhat a pity that she could not see his eyes. As the saying goes, eyes are the windows to the soul. A person's face may betray nothing of their feelings, but it is much harder to shield all that can be revealed by a person's eyes. "Though I have my reservations about this gathering, I imagine it would be a good opportunity to get to know the Order members we will be working with. "

At that moment, a waiter arrived at their table. Lilith offered the young man a sweet smile as she placed her order. "I would like a cup of vanilla tea, that will be all, thank you." She waited for the human to leave before continuing on with their conversation.

"I have been working with the Order for quite a while now. They have been hospitable and helpful," the vampire started vaguely, her gaze flickering to the window, before snapping back to Krishna. "It was quite the adjustment to put it lightly, though I was fortunate to have had support throughout the transition." Lilith lowered her eyes and was silent for a moment. "It is a little sad to look back, though. When you are changed... you lose something of your self, something you can never get back." Her voice trailed off for a moment, before she added softly, "I imagine you understand this feeling."

"You're hardly inconspicuous, Mr. O'Sullivan, I do hope you're aware of that," Margaret said coming to the side of the demon. Her dear cousin was somewhere, perhaps trailing the others. The two had come along for the morning 'promenade' around the markets, although Margaret had been less inclined to come along. Still, appearances were appearances, and the less that she had to come up with excuses for her flippant behaviour the better. It would just be easier if they would accept her desire for work, and to be as swift with their investigations as possible. Much was left to be discovered, still. It was all she could think about.

But, for the sake of her cousin, she had swallowed her pride and opted to join along, some semblance of a smile on her gaunt face. Her dress this morning had been as presentable as possible, in colour, though it retained her darker comforts. A navy blue, with the occasional emerald silk gathering. The collar was high, as she liked it, and the sleeves just brushing her wrist bones. Her gloves were a darker colour as well, one of her favourite pairs of dyed kid. Clem had once again been a darling and offered to do her hair, which had made Maggie feel some swollen joy for being catered to as such. For so many years she had been alone, with only her daughter to fill the empty halls of the Acker home. Norah was a joy, but a babe, and required Margaret's own sacrifices. They shared their familial moments, ones that warmed the bitter woman's heart, but they were lost to the past. Duties took the forefront when her husband was found dead, a man of dishonour and treachery.

When they had arrived at the markets, Maggie could only pull at her bonnet uncomfortably. She hated being in crowds, and especially trying to make conversation. With Clem it was easy, as the younger girl did most of the talking, but Margaret still found herself staring off into the distance. It was why she had noticed Mr. O'Sullivan trailing them, as anyone who didn't want to be involved would do. That, and the never-ending pressure she could feel at the base of her skull, reminding her of the demonic presence. At least it was durable, Maggie having had a good night's sleep.

When the group winded their way to the cafe, where she saw Mr. Jameson and Ms. Beaumont in a darkened corner, Maggie took initiative to take a step back. A breather, perhaps, as she clutched her hands together. Fiddling with the shape of the cross beneath her collar, she could only stare like an addled woman.

There upon she saw the demon himself, but with a different face. There was no mistaking the force, as well as the bit of trickery that just managed to filter past her eyes when he grabbed a drink. As much as she despised the feeling of unnatural beings, especially those with death, there was something permanently safe about a demon bound to be on their side. The deal could not be broken, and she would not be a weakness to any kind of possession.

Thankfully, as those were beyond dreadful-- and still plagued her nightmares.

So she stood there, not quite meeting his eye, and simply acknowledging his presence at the cafe.

"Though I wonder, why have you changed your face? We haven't done anything to embarrass you, have we?"

Krishna's expression was soft as he mulled over what Lilith had said. He gazed distantly over the lip of his cup as he brought it to his mouth for another sip, the drink warm against his permanently cool skin.
Out the window, the sun glinted white off the cobblestones and flashed against the Seine like a thousand tiny mirrors winking at him.
In this kind of weather, before his change, he would have been on a stroll with Nate through Kensington gardens, passing along the stone bridge into Hyde Park, admiring the general nature and foliage. The climate never got too warm, not like his birthplace.
Again, he thought of India and its hot summer days and sweet winter nights, of Diwali and Holi, the latter having most likely passed recently. He remembered being 8 and dressed in the only bit of clothing he had that was passably white, throwing red powder made from palash flowers at his mother as she laughed and grabbed his wrist, running the powder through his hair and over his face.
The barest of smiles again touched his mouth, sad and fleeting.
"I can divine exactly your meaning, Ms. Beaumont. There is a piece of my soul that is forever fractured and left behind."He sat back in his chair, the coffee cup making nary a clink as he set it back down on the saucer, eyeing the front door.
Their friends seemed to have arrived; perhaps he should have chosen a larger table.
Mr. O'Sullivan had made short work of securing himself a beverage, and Ms. Bowles looked no paler than normal, though he wondered how much silver might be hidden on her.
He did not blame her for any mistrust.
Not one bit.
Krishna leveled another look from under thick lashes at Lilith, tilting his head in consideration.
"Tell me a fond memory, Ms. Beaumont. Any memory you can think of that makes you happy."

Thaddeus was delighted to see that more of their team had taken him up on the invitation, and smiled with genuine delight at the sight of Krishna, Lilith. Maggie and even the gentleman he didn't recognize, though he did remember the expression of his face, and guessed that it was likely the demon, Michael.
"Please, let me treat you all. I dragged you out here, it's only fair. You can order whatever you like."
He withdrew his wallet and something fluttered out of his pocket with it: a deep green silk scarf. He watched it blow away and drew in a breath.
"I won't be a moment!"
Hastily putting a handful of francs on the table he shot off after the piece of fabric.

It caught on the branch of a hedge by the river, and Thaddeus thanked God it hadn't blown over and into it. Something hit the hedge and startled him, the object falling through to roll to a halt at his feet. It was a red rubber ball, one often bought to play with a beloved pet.
"Hello Thad! I seemed to have dropped that, could you bring it here for me?"
Oh no...
Thaddeus took a moment to bring a mask of bland indifference onto his face. There were two men, just a year or two younger, both were hunters in the order. He had dealings with them before, and they had never been good. What on earth were they doing in Paris?
Thaddeus took his handkerchief from the hedge and picked up the rubber ball, walking it slowly back and offering it to the one who had asked.
The man took it with a smile that didn't reach his eyes. He leaned in slightly:
"Good dog."
Thaddeus clenched his jaw. They knew he could not risk fighting back, and they delighted in taking advantage of it. The other man snatched the handkerchief quickly while Thaddeus' attention was drawn.
"That's lovely!" He dangled it between them. "How kind, bringing me a gift Thad."
"Give it back!" Thaddeus said quickly, alarm crossing is face, but he realized his mistake as soon as he'd said it.
"Oh? Important is it? I think I'll keep it then."
Thaddeus could only watch as the cloth was tucked away into the hunter's pocket.
He looked genuinely hurt.
"Carry on Thad, let us know if you need any help." They turned to go. Thaddeus could only watch them.

Michael was just settling in for his little stalking spree, hoping to catch sight if some misfortune that would befall his 'teammates', when one of them had the audacity to approach and spoil the whole game. He turned, sneering at the woman, quite the nasty look on his face.

"Did you really have to go and ruin all my fun like that or do you just do it for sport? I certainly don't waltz up to you and ruin your... Whatever humans do for fun. Eat? Defecate? Ruin my plans for a fun afternoon?"

He sighed deeply, taking a drink from the glass he had pilfered and raised an eyebrow. Who in the world puts mint in their coffee, of all things?

"And if you must know, it's because I chose to do so. Apparently you're the only one sensitive enough to discern my presence. At least on this... group."

He would have said more but saw the werebeast stand... Thaddeus.. He was irritated that he was starting to remember their names. An errant gust blew something away and the man gave chase. Must have been important, then. When he was ambushed by the other two, Michael snickered at their teasing and foul play. The look on his 'comrades' face was priceless. They were going to take whatever it was he held so dear. Then, an idea struck him. Standing, he looked to then woman next to him.

"Excuse me a moment, I have a joke to pull and humans to frighten. My main form of entertainment."

He stepped out, and walked towards the other two, whistling pleasantly like a man on a stroll and enjoying the day. As he walked he twirled his fingers, causing an illusory fog to roll in from the north, blanketing the area in thick gray. Taking the form of a small girl while no one could see him change he walked up to one of the men and tugged on his jacket. In the sweetest voice he could muster he spoke.

"Help... Have you seen my mommy? She looks like this."

In an instant he morphed his face into the most horrific thing his twisted and dark mind could muster, frightening the men and swiping the cloth from their hand.

Their expressions were even more delicious than the one on the wolf's face had been, and he fell to the ground in his usual meat suit, laughing as the fog cleared and the Order lackies disappeared behind a building in a frightful flight to be anywhere but there. The price of cloth fell from his hand to the ground again, though that was never really of interest to him. He stood again, making his way back to the cafe and wiping away a tear from his eye, howling with laughter the whole way.

His annoyance to her comment made the woman smirk. The glare on his face was another thing entirely, although the face he chose didn't make quite the impression to Maggie, as she'd seen a number of disgruntled faces in her general direction. There was something gratifying about getting on the bad side of a demon, albeit only for a conversation's time. Therapeutic, almost, to truly know that he couldn't do a damn thing about it. She bit her lips inward, masking that smile for a bit of a contorted face.

"A fun afternoon! Well, you've unmasked me and my intent then, Mr. O'Sullivan. You surely can't have any fun in my presence," Maggie said with a raised eyebrow and that ghost of an amused expression on her face. His willingness to meddle, as much as a demon could, was something interesting indeed. A strange place to be in, she was sure of it. A creature of pure chaos, mischief and hellish intent... forced to do good. At this rate, his malice felt almost childish in intent. And, as well, to not harm an innocent person. The irony was as blatant as could be, and until she knew him further, she'd have no issue making light of it the whole way through. Demons didn't feel embarrassment, or pity. They were hell.

With the arrival of the rest of the group, Thaddeus offered to buy for them all, which was a courteous thing to do, being the reason she had been dragged out of the estate this morning. However, just as quickly, his scarf blew away into the breeze. Her eyes widened, but off he went to catch it. Two gentlemen joined him in a moment, and Maggie knew in her stomach that it wasn't anything good. Indeed, though she couldn't hear what was going on, Tad seemed to be in a pickle of sorts.

Michael made quick to leave, perhaps to gloat in the poor man's face, and Maggie's face crumpled into a frown. Did the demon have no honour? No of course not, he was a blasted demon. His intent seemed neutral, so she could only hope that Thaddeus would be spared from his cruelty. Although Maggie was less inclined to intervene in matters such as these, the last thing she wanted was to bare witness to the humiliation that could potentially take place.

It almost reminded her of being in school, as a child, as well. For being a girl, and for being less-inclined to fool around like the rest of them, she had been targeted. Bullied, hair-pulled and abandoned in the woods behind the schoolhouse. They were traumatic times, and she usually tried to avoid thinking about it. Although Thaddeus was a grown man, and so were the gentlemen that had decided to pick an incident with him, she could only imagine delivering cruelties to the men. The nerve, and the audacity, to behave in such a way!

So she trailed after the demon, gathering her skirts in a huff and following after.

Michael made quick work, she was sure it was him, when a fog rolled in. She wasn't sure how real it was, as it was the morning, but she had an idea that he was putting on some sort of show. To... scare the men?

She stared in a bit of bemusement, head cocked as she watched. At some point he had disappeared down one of the many alleyways and out came a little girl. That one brought a laugh out of her, for sure. Though, for Maggie, it was more like a light-hearted choke.

As to be expected, though she was not privy to whatever he did, the men were startled out of their skins and sent running. She expected Michael to return the cloth to Thaddeus, but he simply dropped it and got off to laughing his way back to the cafe. She sighed, joining him midway on her stroll to retrieve the fallen cloth.

"Such a kind thing for you to do, Mr. O'Sullivan. It just warms warms my frigid heart to see you do good for our fellow compatriot. I do hope you laugh all the way back, for you deserve it for your good deeds," Maggie sneered to the man, a shit-eating grin plastered on her face. She continued past him, back straight, stooping to grab the scarf from the ground. She handed it to Thaddeus, shaking her head as a mother would to their delinquent child.

"Mr. Grey, I do hope this means enough to you to warrant the small show that just happened," she whispered and carefully placed the thing in his hands. "It'll be a trifle embarrassing for them to go back and say a little girl frightened them, so we can only hope they don't return to pester you again... Are you alright?" She wasn't one for sentiment, but the wolf proved himself to be a soft, reserved character that she could empathize with. It didn't exhaust her to be near him, as he emitted no death from his pores.

Thaddeus could hardly believe his eyes. Was the demon....standing up for him? The look of pure bewilderment on his face must have been somewhat amusing. It was only when Maggie came over to hand him back his precious kerchief that he seemed to come out of shock.
"I...it is...well, to me." He held the scrap of cloth tenderly in both hands. Only now, at close range could one see the initials embroidered in gold thread: "S. C."
"It belonged to a...a very dear friend." Thaddeus was disinclined to reveal the whole truth, but it was clear by his tone that the individual meant a lot to him.
He trailed after the demon slowly.
"Thank you." He said in earnest.

Back at the cafe the drinks were beginning to appear. Thaddeus took care to tuck the kerchief securely into his breast pocket.
"I can't hold it against them really." Thaddeus added, "Colton's younger sister was killed by a werewolf...he's hated them..us, ever since."
He looked at the group sympathetically. "Well, I'm sure I am not the only one who's been subject to that sort of thing, right?"
Thaddeus took his time meeting all of their eyes, hoping they would share a bit of their experience.
"Actually, I invited you all here because I hoped we could get to know each other better. We'll be put on all future cases together, it'd be a shame if we didn't get on."

He had finally found some time to himself. This 'team' was an ever present nuisance and he could never find any time to himself anymore, especially given the proliferation of the other Order members also present at the facility. Luckily, he finally caught a break late one night while the humans and the other tainted that played nice with them were mostly out doing whatever it is they did. He didn't really care what it was they busied themselves with to be honest, as he had finally been allowed the time to himself to partake of the one thing that actually brought him real joy. A secret pleasure that none would ever know about, that none could ever be allowed to figure out. Sitting in the room that had been given to him with the door slightly ajar, he rested in the small bed, one leg propped up over the other. His arms lay behind his head and for the first time in a while, he wore a smile. A very unknown expression that the others had never seen him wear in a fashion that wasn't malevolent, sarcastic, demeaning, or ironic. A genuine smile of joy, an emotion he professed to not having at all. And he began to sing, lightly at first but eventually picking up in volume. For a demon, his voice was nearly angelic, a deep and rich baritone, smooth and sweet as honey.

"Now we are ready
To sail for the horn
Weigh hey, roll and go!
Our boots and our clothes,
Boys, are all in the pawn
To be rollicking Randy Dandy-O!
Heave a pawl, o heave away
Weigh hey, roll and go!
The anchor's on board
And the cable's all stored
To be rollicking Randy Dandy-O!
Soon we'll be warping her out
Through the locks,
Weigh hey, roll and go!
Where the pretty young girls
All come down in their frocks~"

Lilith Beaumont

A short moment of silence fell over the two vampires as Krishna seemed to be lost in thought, his mind faraway reliving some distant, fond memory. Lilith quietly observed him, gently tugging at the ends of her gloves. She noted the faintest glimmer of a smile on his lips, and a deep sense of loss rushed over the vampire, for she understood this sadness well. However, she too was curious... what was the extent of her fellow vampire's sorrow and loss? What horrors had he seen? What plagued his memories and haunted the shadows of his every thought?

Curious was she was, Lilith understood that it was not her place to ask.

Behind her, the front door jingled open and the vampire turned her head slightly to see Maggie enter into the cafe. Her gaze followed the human woman as she approached a nearby table where an unfamiliar man was sitting. Lilith found this rather odd, but after her eyes had lingered on him for a moment, she realized he was the demon with a new face. The only thing recognizable were his eyes... the same startling icy blue. Her lips pursed ever so slightly at this. To have noticed his presence so late... it was incredibly sloppy of her. She was perhaps too relaxed and unguarded... dangerously so.

Her tea soon arrived, and the vampire carefully sipped the hot, sweet liquid as she mulled over Krishna’s new question.
”A happy memory, you say?” she murmured softly, deep in thought. Her gaze flickered once again to the scenery outside, narrowing slightly at the brightness of the day. After a moment of deep contemplation, she turned back to Krishna, eyes lowered slightly.
"I cannot say I remember much from my childhood," Lilith started carefully, her teacup meeting the saucer with a gentle clink, "but... there is one memory that comes to mind." It was a very distant memory from when her parents were still alive... faded and blurred, just barely visible. "Of the time I had with them, I remember my parents to have been very busy people. They were often away for work, my father especially. Despite their absence, my parents did try to show their care and love when they could. " The vampire let out a light laugh as, looking back, she realized how alike Michael and her parents were. "On the morning of my 7th birthday, my father came home from a trip with a little kitten under his arms." A small but genuine smile tugged at her lips. "She was the tiniest ball of cream fur in the world...I named her Delilah."
"I will never forget that day... she was very special to me, a gentle, irreplacable friend,"
Lilith finished, smile fading away with her words. After a beat, her eyes flickered back to Krishna, and she managed a soft, but slightly sad smile. "I believe it is your turn, Mr. Jameson."

It had been some time since Gabriel had seen an Asian man, which was a shame because they had a certain exotic beauty he found very attractive. He suspected it was their androgynous features, their slender frame and almond shaped eyes. The one that was sitting at the café when they arrived was a particularly good looking specimen, young and delectable, and Gabriel spent a good while gawking at the man before Margaret unceremoniously revealed him to be the bloody demon. Knowing that Michael could hardly have known this was a look Gabriel would enjoy, he decided not to hold a grudge against him for that, but he was still significantly annoyed.

"I'll start with a coffee," he announced, hinting at the possibility that he might continue with something stronger. "And water for my ferret, please." It wasn't too hot, but it wouldn't do to let Sir William Florence thirst. At the edge of his field of vision, Thaddeus was chasing something the wind had stolen from him, only to be approached by a pair of obvious jerks. From where he was sitting, Gabriel was unable to catch a single word of that conversation, but the pantomime told him quite enough. If not for the fact that Michael and Margaret had dashed off to fix the situation, he might have felt compelled to teach them a lesson himself, but he supposed crowding the scene wouldn't have been too helpful. They could handle the pair without making it a spectacle.

It was unsettling to find out that those bullies were a part of their organisation. For those who differed from mainstream society, life was hard enough outside the Order; to face this kind of behaviour within it... "I beg to disagree," he said smoothly once Tadd, upon his return, produced an apology for the guys who had tormented him just a while ago. "You can and should hold it against them. In fact, we should absoutely report them, since acceptance of all members, whatever their species, social status and sexual preferences may be, is literally in our code. It is very unfortunate that they had a tragic experience with a werewolf before. But there are millions of murderers among the so called regular people, and they haven't given up on humanity, right?"

Giselle

It was late, and Giselle found herself quite unable to sleep. After several hours of agonizing effort, she slipped out of bed, put a robe on over her night dress, and stepped into the hallway to wander and think until she might feel more inclined towards sleep. Most of the team was out in the city, and although on most nights she would have jumped over herself with eagerness at the prospect of joining them, she had decided to stay in, to try and rest. Big waste that had turned out to be. She ran her fingers against the wainscoting of the walls as she went, her bare feet and the slight rustle of her skirts making practically no noise, whatsoever. The chateaux was never exactly silent, given the ghosts and spirits that filled the place, but for now, it seemed still. Giselle had never been built for solitude. It was foreign and unnerving, but she had begun to find some comfort in it. It was easier to sit with the thoughts in her head when was alone.

Giselle was pulled out of her musing, vaguely, by the sound of someone singing in a fine, clear voice. Her first thought went to one of the ghosts, but this voice was singing in English. Curious, she followed the sound through the twisting hallways, until she came to a door. Another bedroom. The door was ajar, and she stopped just close enough to visible as she stood.

She peered in, and was shocked to see Michael. It hadn't occurred to her that a demon might enjoy music and beauty and moments of quiet solitude as much as any other person, and there was something so intimately calm about the little tableau in front of her-- a man on a chair, singing to himself. Giselle knew she ought to leave, to walk away and leave him to his peace, but she found the scene in front of her oddly enchanting, and so she stayed, watching and listening.

His otherwise sharp ears betrayed him just this once, and as his eyes were closed in silent relaxation, there was no way of knowing he was being observed. For now. He lay there, enjoying himself to the fullest, shamelessly and and freely letting himself go. These were the precious moments he loved so dearly, ones that no one could ever know he enjoyed. A shameful secret, his own personal sin to indulge in whenever he had the chance. A talent he had acquired from a life time long forgotten, or at least one he tried to forget and never quite could. A life where he actually found that he could enjoy himself, didn't have to hate and loathe. A life time he had since learned was false, a beautiful lie he had been told and tried to believe in. The only thing left from that time was this habit, picking up little bits of verse and singing them to himself to remind him of those times, the bittersweet memories of a time before any of this. Before he had allowed himself to become such a monster.

"Heave a pawl, o heave away!
Weigh hey, roll and go!
The anchor's on board
And the cable's all stored
To be rollicking Randy Dandy-O!
Come breast the bars,
Bullies, heave her away
Weigh hey, roll and go!
Soon we'll be rolling her
Down through the Bay
To be rollicking Randy Dandy-O!"

After a long moment, the girl turned to leave. It felt just a tad bit too invasive to stand at the doorway and watch, any longer. Perhaps she'd be able to sleep, now, if she just tried again. She took a step back into the hallway, and her foot found a loose floorboard, which creaked spectacularly loudly.

She winced, surely that was more than audible. Slowly, nervously, she glanced over her shoulder towards the door. Giselle tried to ignore the fear she had, regarding Michael, most of the time. She tried to tell herself that she was only as scared of him as she was of everyone else, but that was plainly a lie. She'd had too much experience with demons, and none of it good. It was true that she'd found no similarities, really, between Michael and the demon who'd killed her friends, or any of the demons who'd attacked her since, but he was one of them. At least he couldn't hurt her without breaking his bindings-- a small comfort.

He was just getting into the swing of it. Really letting his pipes sing, though he technically lacked wind pipes, a voice box, and every other form of internal organ. Still, he hurled himself into the melody and rhythm of the notes with wild abandon, secure in the knowledge that the Order and its pesky and annoying humans and other prying ears and eyes were gone for a little while. That is, up until he heard the creak. He was instantly on his feet, a look of pure panic crossing his face for the barest of moments before switching to belligerent fury. Raising to his full height, his fists clenched tight enough to turn the knuckles white, his voice was saturated with malice and hate.

"Who is that? Who dares... Spy on me?! Show yourself! Or I swear no order binding will save you from me!"

He was standing near the door, now that he was paying attention he could just barely make out the faintest signs of life, the tell tale little micro-noises that humans make simple by existing, and the shadow upon the floor.

- Krishna -

There seemed to be some sort of commotion outside, if Mr. Grey's swift exit with Ms. Bowles and Mr. O'Sullivan hot on his heels were any indication. They veered out of sight of the window, and the sunlight seemed to dampen his predator's hearing, blanketing his heightened senses like a cowl over a falcon.
The only people left in their team who had joined were Ms. Laurent and Mr. Gladstone.
Krishna lifted his hand to catch their attention--still seated in that dark corner, with his dark clothes and dark glasses, sharing a table with the darkly clad Ms. Beaumont. They looked, for all the world, like two spiders perched in the corner of a web.
The forced attempt at a jovial grin Krishna plastered over his face did not help matters.
Krishna's mantra went through his head as he had raised his hand: what would Nate do?
As Lilith began to recount the warm and tender tale of her father bringing home a cream cat, the imperceptible softening of her eyes and the small smile made her previous humanity shine through, and reminded Krishna that he, Thaddeus, and Lilith had all been human.
Once.

"I have never met your Delilah, but I feel confident in saying that you were probably a happy memory of hers, too."
Pets had not been a--well, a thing at the Jameson household, Mr. Cecil Jameson having not believed in having animals in the house, and as a child Krishna had shared authority of the resident strays with the rest of the children around him. He pondered, as he watched Lilith reminisce, how nice it might have been to come home to something as simple and friendly as a little cream kitten, mewing for attention.

Movement at Gabriel's feet caught Krishna's eye, and the small animal from the night previous made a grand entrance, circling around Gabriel's legs on a leash. Krishna had no idea what kind of animal it was, and several ideas came to mind and were immediately rejected (emaciated groundhog? Malformed cat?....Very skinny squirrel?). The only conclusion Krishna could reach was that it was very, very adorable.
Krishna waved over the server and requested a saucer of milk, which he then placed on the ground by their table, just in case.

His attention returned to Lilith abruptly, her request for an equal trade catching him off guard.
"F-forgive me, a happy memory of mine? Ah..." He trailed off, momentarily at a loss. It always seemed that relevant and important memories came freely when you didn't need them, and hid themselves thoroughly when you did. His gaze dropped, as it tended to do, as he racked his brain for anything good or clever to say, the length of silence as he tried harder to remember only making it harder to think. What had he been thinking about earlier?
"Hm...are you familiar with the celebration of Holi? It's a big event in India, where everyone gathers for several days of festivities involving bonfires and feasts. My favourite part of it was the day where I could throw gulal at my mother--ah, gulal is like a powder, usually red--and not get in trouble." The barest flash of teeth as he thought fondly of his childhood. "The whole village throws or paints colour on each other, and there's sweets and dancing...I remember one year, Akash got dunked in the nearby river before we started. He was so red by the time we were done." Krishna chuckled, the sound muted and breezy but unmistakable. "He looked like he'd been baked in a tandoor."

The memory faded and Krishna sobered, looking up to meet Lilith's eyes. "What do you miss most about being human?"
