The year is 2220 and a great evil is beginning to take hold of the planet earth once more. 200 years ago scientist in their feeble attempt to create clean renewable energy made a grand discovery in the form of an even grander accident, one that broke space and time as we knew it. The resulting explosion connected earth to another plane of existence. This other plane suddenly merged with earth in the remains of what was once New York City, now a massive crater of forever melted rock and rubble, one that houses but a single massive portal that connects the two worlds. The plane that connected to earth was known by many names depending on who you asked. Some called if Heaven; other’s called it hell, but as the the denizens came through to discover our world, it became known as they called it- Aurelon, and there are several indisputable new facts of the world we would call earth today.
First- magic is no longer a thing of fantasy, Magic is real, mana is real, and they exist for every human to practice and to master.
Second- technology has taken a rather significant halt in development. Scientist are rare, as most opt for a study into magic, and as such technology has stagnated, only being furnished just enough to maintain the current status quo.
Third- humans are no longer the only intelligent race. The first to bear through the portal were the warring Orc race, tall and muscular green humanoids with tusks the size of your hand. Second were the elves; peace loving and magical, they attempted to help the humans quell the orc raids and establish peace among the worlds. Third were the dwarves, a mercantile species with a love for gold, though disgruntled that most humans had little of it to spend... the dwarves then being followed by a myriad of different species.
Fourth- gods have a tangible influence over the world. Since mana has come to earth- the magical force that lives in all things at all times, now also fuels the beings through the devotion of their followers, though they cannot manifest a physical form due to their incomprehensible power, they can inhabit a single “vessel” with whom they can share their magical gifts and knowledge with. Over the last two centuries These individuals have come to be known simply as “vassals”
Fifth and lastly- monsters of all sorts now roam the earth. Dragons, trolls, goblins, Minotaur, chimera, Sphinx, hydra, centaur, harpies... the list could go on forever. Monstrous creatures both good and evil residing seeking out their own living.
As previously stated, almost 200 years have passed, to the day... The Elves and dwarves that still live remember that fateful occurrence dubbed “the opening” as if it was just yesterday. humans living today think back on it in legendary wonder, stories merely passed down in books, or bedtime stories. They tell story of the rise of the demon lord; whose ranks of dark magic wielding cultist, sorcerers and blood thirsty orcs plundered across the Americas, how the gods watched on in horror as the mortal races were decimated by Magic that proved beyond them, so they decided to intervene how they could. Choosing the first vassals, mortals who they imbued with their essence, combining mortal and god into one, creating something brand new. The first vassals faced the demon lords horde, and finally after twenty years of strife, destroyed and laid waste to both he and his ranks. Saving both worlds for the generations of the future. Following the destruction of the demon lord, the The vassals came together to found the first and most prestigious guild, dubbed “the order”, an organization sworn to defend and maintain our fragile worlds, created for and by the people of those lands.
You will be members of the first guild called “The order” a magical society that operates to keep the peace of both earth and Aurelon. you obtain missions and execute them in the world. Missions will consist of various things such as investigating a murder, capturing/slaying a magical monster or specimen, exploring a ruin, finding artifacts and obviously Defeating evil!
The order is an organization mostly made up of vassals chosen by their gods to bring harmony and peace to the worlds. Gods are varied and include all the religions and pantheons of the earth as well as Aurelon.
However gods can only inhabit one vassal at a time, as such once something has been picked, no one else can have it! Be decisive and be fast! Since there can be only one per god and since vassals do not live any longer than a normal life span, there is also an apprentice system in place. a vassal May choose someone to begin training toward the end of their life, so that if a god wishes to continue their work on the mortal world they can. So if you would like to create a vassal and heir apprentice, you may!
The RP will take place at The Order’s main headquarters set in Philadelphia, due to its relatively close proximity to the portal. Though there are other guild branches all over earth and Aurelon.
