Alena was in her room getting ready for the big day. She was so tired, last night was a rough night and she didn't get back home until this morning. Alena might have had about two or three hours of sleep. Alena took a quick bath, she put her scented lotions and perfume on and lipstick before she got her hair ready. When Alena was done with their hair she walked over to her closet, she pulled out a beautifully steamed dress. The dress had elegance written all over it and a touch of glam and glitz. Alena loved how form fitting this dress was and plus she was semi matching with her mother. Her mothers dress had twice as much glitz and glam as Alena's did. Alena put her dress on before she took out the pins and rolls from her hair. She let her now beautifully curled hair bounce past her shoulders. Alena made her way down the stairs where she greeted her father with opens arms and a kiss to the cheek, "Happy Birthday." She said with a sweet smile. Alena saw how beautifully radiant her sister looked and gave her a kiss to the cheek as well. "My my my, don't you two clean up nicely." She chuckled. All they were waiting for was her mother. Alena had another dress that she kept at the hotel for the performance that she is going to put on for her fathers birthday.

Gianna had already woken up early and she came back just in time for the party. Gianna was running a few errands last week. Gianna was all dolled up and ready to get her husbands big day started. She was excited when the kids told her that they were throwing a party. Gianna wanted to help out, but of course Alena objected. The only thing Gianna did was supply the party with guest. Family member's and friends from near and far came to celebrate on this big joyous day. Gianna was wearing a really low cut dress with her hair up in an elegant bun. Gianna felt good about her body and she loved it. "Happy Birthday darling," Gianna told her husband as she gave him a kiss on the cheek. When Gianna saw her darling daughters in front of her, she was surprised at what Alex and Alena were wearing. It was like the two girls switched styles. Alex was wearing a short red dress and Gianna was wearing a long and very modest dress. "Don't you ladies look beautiful." Gianna said as she gave a smile to her daughters and walked over to the two of them to give them a kiss.

"Well, I am shocked, Alexandra, but in a good way," Vinnie assured her. He nodded when she played down her injury, but that was typical of him and his family. Any one of them could lose a limb and still act like nothing had happened. "I expect they are still getting ready. They're not as efficient as you and me," he joked.

Vinnie smiled as Alena approached, returning the hug and placing a return kiss on her cheek. "Thank you, Alena," he told her. "You look lovely, Alena. You'd best be careful - if Leo is still working when we get there he'll not leave you alone," he knowingly remarked.

When Gianna approached them, Vinnie couldn't help but stare at his wife for a time. When she kissed him on the cheek, he gave her a soft kiss on the lips. "Bellissimo," he softly began. "You look amazing, my love." He continued to watch her as she walked over to their daughters. "I'm the luckiest man alive," he softly noted, appreciating his wife and children. Today was a good day for Vinnie.

Snapping out of his thoughts, Vinnie walked to the bottom of the stairs to see if his sons were in sight. "Come on, Giorgio!" he shouted. "Monte, step away from the mirror and get your butt downstairs. I'm sure you look handsome enough!"

The black Chevrolet pulled infront of the hotel, the pristine wax job causing a perfect reflection of the hotel to bounce off the side of the car. The vehicle continued straight before turned into the parking lot. A man in a cliche valet uniform ran to open the door, revealing a well-groomed, dressed in black, Giovanni 'Angel' Gambino. Adjusting the edges of his tux, he clicked the back of his heel to the nose of his toe as he stepped out. "Right this way, Mr. Gambino." The man said, motioning to the doors of the hotel. As Angel moved towards the establishment, the valet escorted his car to a reserved spot. As he pressed open the doors, the music emitted in the lobby fluttered out into the Chicago streets like pigeons. He walked through the lobby, shaking the occasional hand pressed his way, determined to make it to the ballroom. Once he was inside, he saw the familiar faces he wanted to see, smiling and waving their way.

Fortuna sat up straight within her seat, smiling pleasantly to herself as she watched the multitude of people within the ballroom interact with one another as they waited for the eventual arrival of Vinnie and his family. The hitwoman looked as eye-catching as ever, though there were a number of differences to her usual apparel. It seems she had decided to forgo her habitual black and red attire for the evening, and went for an elegant look for the occasion. She had donned on a backless white sheath dress, with bejeweled gold trimming and a long slit running down the left side of the skirt, as well as a pair of metalic gold heels to go with it. Not only that, but she was also letting her hair down, allowing her long, ebony locks to cascade down her back in waves, in addition to a more natural look of makeup. All in all, she would appear to be a completely different person compared to the sadistic and intimidating right hand woman you would probably know her to be.

Once everyone was ready, the family of six got into the black limousine with one of Vinnie's drivers in control of the wheel. After the short journey, the vehicle pulled up outside the hotel and the driver rushed around to open the door for the family. As they entered the hotel lobby, Vinnie shook the hands of the men guarding the entrance, the curiosity evident in his eyes. The boss straightened out his suit as Leo greeted them, the young employee was clearly stalling for some reason, going on about some minor emergency in one of the top floor rooms or some pointless crap. Figuring he knew what was going on, Vinnie played along by patiently listened to Leo and simply thanked him for dealing with whatever the imaginary issue had been. Then, when the family were led into the ballroom rather than the hotel restaurant, the head of the family braced himself.

Upon entering the large room, Vinnie smiled as he saw the beautifully decorated room. The tables were all set ready for the meal, the balloons and banners tastefully arranged, and the stage clearly set up for a band to perform later. He could see family, friends and associates amongst the large crowd of guests. Then the pianist in the distance began playing an energetic version of "Happy Birthday" and people began singing along. Put him in a room full of enemies out for his blood and he could easily stand his ground. But this kind of attention was something he kept to a minimum and felt slightly uneasy around. Or perhaps just embarrassed, judging by his reddened face. He looked back to his closest family and raised a playful eyebrow as if to ask which one was responsible. "Come on, then. Whose idea was this?" he curiously asked, a bright smile on his face.

As the singing came to an end and the pianist returned to playing some softer melodies, Vinnie scanned the room. His eyes fell upon Fortuna who was looking quite different to what he was used to and it was hard to believe this naturally beautiful woman was the same right-hand woman who generally carried a harsher appearance about her. He then noticed Michael sat with a newspaper in hand and wondered if parties weren't his thing, but it was still good to see him there. Every time he started to consider what kind of security measures had been implemented for this event, he reminded himself he was meant to have fun tonight. Besides, he was distracted as he saw Angel waving in his direction and the boss decided to beckon him over. Vinnie was fully aware of the fire at Angel's restaurant the previous day and wanted to ask about it. Vinnie tended to miss the point of parties and relaxing...

Leo watched Vinnie with apprehension but was relieved to see the man seemed happy with everything. That was good, because Leo really liked this job! After the singing was done, Leo turned his attention to Alena and Alex. "A success, yes?" he asked, giving them a wobbly thumbs up. His eyes lingered on Alena for a short time before consciously snapping out of it. "You two ladies looked gorgeous," he told them. He then pointed to Alena's hair. "I don't think I've seen you with curls before. They suit you!"

Kitty Avera
"Katherine, you look lovely. I'm sorry we couldn't go out somewhere more exciting, but my boss... It would look bad if I didn't go," a bashful man greeted Kitty as they met up across the street from the hotel.

After she had published her article the day prior, the man - whose name was Frankie - came to visit her office. The two had been friends in high school, and ended up making plans to go out and catch up. The tricky thing was, Kitty knew that not only was Frankie one of Romano's men, but also that a certain boss was having a birthday party that night. With that information in mind, she had carefully yet swiftly arranged her way to the party. it had worked out perfectly; Frankie's finacée Annette had fallen ill and would have to miss the party.

"Thank you," Kitty said genuinely, "and I don't mind at all - I hardly have any chances to dress up like this anymore." She gestured at her gown, a floor-length dress with a black satin skirt and a cream-coloured bodice covered in black lace. Loose, lacy sleeves hung just sky of her shoulders, accenting the curve of her collarbones. She had even pinned her curls back with cream barrettes.

"Well, it certainly suits you," Frankie chuckled, which made Kitty smile in return. He held out his arm to her, which she took, and the pair made their way across the street and into the hotel. Kitty tensed up when they passed through the guards, but no one stopped them. She only released the breath she had been holding once they had entered the ballroom.

The first thing she did was scan the ballroom for familiar faces. She spotted the Romano boy she had met the other day first, but she quickly averted her eyes, not wanting to be caught staring. The next person she saw was a surprisingly familiar face very near to the Romano boy. Her face lit up immediately.

"Frankie, if you'll excuse me a minute, I see someone that I have to say hello to," she said quickly, detaching herself from him and making her way over to Vinnie.

Alex followed her family into the ball room, a smile on her face as she looked around. She was pleased with what their hard work had achieved. Well hard work wasnt actually true for her since she really just sat and gave orders since she was unable to lift or move heavy things with her arm. Alex joined in as they sang happy birthday, a smirk appearing on her face when she noticed how red faced her father got. It was strange seeing him uncomfortable but she did enjoy the sight. She nudged Alena forward when her father asked who had planned this, before looking around the room to see who all was there, she spotted Angel and waved back at him before turning to a voice which came from her left "A definite success" she assured leo before smiling "thank you, you dont look to bad yourself" she commented a genuine smile on her face. She picked up on the vibes between Leo and Alena and smirked to herself before deciding to leave them to talk "I'm going to leave you two lovebirds and get a drunk, enjoy" she said with a wink and a teasing laugh before walking over to get a glass of wine

Monte Romano
thb_3427.jpg

Monte wasn't thrilled with the idea of a formal party for his father, and had considered for the briefest of moments skipping out and going to the casino. He decided against it however, instead donning a jacket and jeans, opting out of his usual suited attire.
He'd sat on his bed for a few moments, combing through his hair with long fingers, finally sighing and getting up, only managing the briefest of glances at the mirror.
Who cares? He thought, snorting.
Joining his family, they all climbed into the limo before being swept off to the hotel. Once he arrived, Monte donned a wide, dazzling smile, greeting everyone politely and weaving his way through the room, appearing as if a social butterfly.
After he'd greeted anyone important, Monte snuck a sideways glance at the open bar, subconsciously rifling through his pockets before realizing it wouldn't be costing him a dime. Sidling up to the bar, he grinned at the bartender.
"I'll have a beer." He asked politely, sitting at one of the barstools that had been set up and surveying the party. It was well planned, and closing his eyes, Monte momentarily focused only on the music, which was played by a young lady in the corner. Around him his family mingled, and he smiled.
At least they'd all be happy tonight. Briefly catching the eye of Lloyd, who was also in attendance, he raised his glass in a silent toast, to which Lloyd gave a goofy grin, flipping Monte off before disappearing into the crowd again.

Alex made her way over to the bar smiling and greeting people as she passed, promising to come back and talk to them later on in the night. She rolled her eyes as she turned her back to them, Alex had no intention of talking to half of the people there, this was her only problem with family parties that everyone wanted to talk. She had planned to avoid the whole "My you've grown up" and "I remember you when you were this height" conversations and she was determined to stick to that plan.
"A glass of Sauvignon blanc please" She asked the bar tender when she reached the bar. She turned to look at the room before taking the drink of the bar man and thanking him. Alex took a sip of her drink and then turned to her brother with a smile on her face "The best thing about family parties, free drink" She said and raised her glass slightly as she laughed. She placed the glass back on the bar and sat on the bar stool beside Monte. Alex subconsciously reached back with her bad arm to grab her wine and winced at the pain it caused, quickly pulling it back and twisting so to grab the glass with her good arm. She brushed of the pain and instead focused on Monte with a smile "I feel like I haven't seen you in ages" She commented. Alex thought about it and the last time she saw Monte was the night she had fought with her father about being at the casino, which she was sure was two or three days before she got shot.

Monte gave an amused grin when his sister approached, though his eyes were quick to notice her unusual movement. He furrowed his brow, though decided not to ask about it, instead filling the information away in his head to ask later, perhaps after the party. He wouldn't tell his father anything, of course, but rarely did anything unusual escape his gaze.
"It's been years." He replied drily, though his eyes twinkled. "My my you've grown."
Monte chuckled at himself, holding his beer glass up to Alex.
"Cheers?" He asked pleasantly.

Alex rolled her eyes at her brothers comment of it being years but smirked at what followed. A playful glint appeared in her eyes as she smiled using her best elderly voice as she spoke "Oh Monte dear, I remember you when you were only a baby". She laughed slightly before raising her glass to meet his "Cheers" she smiled genuinely at him, she never really spent much time with Monte due to them both usually off doing their own thing but she truely enjoyed his company when they were with each other "So tell me, whats going on in Montes life?" She asked in a general sense. Alex took a drink of her wine before reaching over to place it back on the bar. She realised that she should have sat on the other side of Monte so getting and putting down her drink wouldnt be so awkward.

James Porter

James, Lucy and a couple of Sullivan men had been waiting it out in the hotel room since the early afternoon. He knew it was a big risk bringing Lucy along, mostly because her father wouldn't be happy with him when he realised, but James felt she was tough enough to make her own decision on this one and she owed the Romanos some payback. He'd worry about Emmet being pissed off later. Any other Sullivans (Conor. Emmet?) who were in on the plan would be in the other room he'd booked out next door. There was enough of a crowd in this room without more people clouding James' thoughts. The door to the balcony which overlooked the dance floor was just across the corridor. The fire exit at the end of the corridor would lead them out by the side of the building and they should have enough time to get there once they'd given Vinnie his present. As he spent time loading his gun, he could hear the piano playing and realised just how close this all was. He began humming Happy Birthday along with the distant, muffled music. His nervous energy was more out of excitement than worry. He'd played this out in his head many times over the last day. The only thing he hadn't counted on was Conor's reluctance. He mentioned not being good at firing long range, which James was aware of, but he still couldn't help but feel the lad was holding back on something. Regardless, Conor had offered to use his muscle and close-range skills to stick with the Sullivan soldiers who would ensure their escape routes were kept clear.

James was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard a knock at the door. He rushed over and looked through the spy hole to see it was a member of staff bringing the room service they'd ordered. He let one of the others guys accept the food and drink before sharing it out amongst the group. This whole thing had given James quite an appetite. "Drink?" he offered Lucy a glass of wine.

“Ah, no. Unfortunately not.” Lieutenant Xin smiled obligingly as he stopped to talk to the detective. He wasn’t really in the mood to chitchat, but neither was he very happy with what he’d been asked to do for the evening. Really, that bastard Garths was getting out of line, giving him orders when they were the same rank. It was only because the other lieutenant had seniority in the department, so Xin was too polite to refuse.

However…Lieutenant Xin gave Andrews a brusque once-over, the wheels quickly turning in his head. Then he grinned.

“Detective…can I ask you for a favor?” He stepped a bit closer to make sure they wouldn’t be overheard. “How would you like to go a party?”

Alena gave a soft smile to her father who complimented her and her sister. Alena was glad to see that her father was in a good mood, she was even more surprised to see that her mother would wear something like that. Alena was shocked, but she knew the way her mother worked when Gianna picked out that very revealing low cut dress. "You don't look so bad yourself mother," Alena said to her mom. Alena blushed when her father mentioned Leo and how he wouldn't be able to take his eyes off of her. Alena didn't know where her father got that idea from, but he was probably onto them. Alena could lie about anything in front of her father. "I guess you're right," she said to him. When Alena made eye contact with Leo when he had walked in, she smiled. "Thank you," Alena said to him when he gave her that compliment on how nice she looked.

Gianna was too busy admiring the way her husband looked. My was he dashing, she felt so young whenever she was around him and this moment right now gave her all the nostalgic feelings. "I have something extra special saved for you later on," Gianna said to her husband as she whispered into his ear. Gianna wrapped her arm around his waist as she pulled him close. "Shall we get going? We wouldn't want to keep the celebration waiting?" She said.

Detective Edwards

capture-png.332451

"Well, that's unfortunate," Edwards replied. With his tone so serious it would be almost like he'd genuinely expected Romano to have been arrested and was now disappointed he hadn't been. Obviously, he knew it was unlikely the mob boss had slipped up enough to have been taken in. And then there would be the difficult task of making any charge stick. He folded his arms and leant against the wall as Lieutenant Xin continued to speak. He wished to ask for a favour and Edwards experience was always that favours were just too much time and effort, but he would let him ask nonetheless. When he was suddenly invited to a party, the Detective let out an exasperated sigh.

"I would like to go to a party just as much as I would like to undergo a lobotomy," he drily replied. "Why do you ask, Lieutenant? Does it involve a case?"

Leo Davide and Vincenzo Romano

Leo had watched Alex go off to the bar for a drink and to speak with Monte. He turned back to Alena and smiled. "Can I get you a drink?" he offered her. "Dinner won't be long, but I'm dying of thirst here," he commented, having rushed around until this moment.

At the party, Vinnie kept his arm around Gianna as he spoke with his associates. There wasn't much in terms of business that he felt the need to keep from his wife, so he didn't mind her being present as he talked about it. She'd already heard about the fire at Angel's restaurant. As he waited for the man to join them, he whispered into Gianna's ear. "You know, all I can think about now is whatever you've got saved for later," he flirted.

Vinnie saw the familiar woman approaching and briefly removed his hand from around Gianna's waist. He studied the woman for a moment before his memory caught up with him. "Kitty?" he asked, a friendly smile on his face. "I haven't seen you in a while. What brings you here? Are you well?" he asked.

Monte laughed as she joked, clinking his glass against hers before downing the rest of the beer, setting the empty glass lightly on the table. He'd never admit it of course, but if he was forced to spend any time with his family, he'd prefer Alex over any of the others. Monte watched his sister take a sip of her wine before setting it down, looking at him. He leaned back on the stool, sighing and staring blankly ahead.
"Smoking, drinking, guns and women." He said matter-of-factly. It was the life of a gangster. "Tell ya the truth it's getting a little boring."
Monte turned towards his sister, arching a neat, well groomed eyebrow.
"And what adventures has my little sister been on lately?" It was really a two part question. While he was mildly interested in her day to day activities, he was genuinely curious as to why she was acting just a bit off. It was unlikely any of the rest of his family would notice, and admittedly Monte knew he only noticed because of time reading people, not because of any closeness with Alex.

Alex smiled, tilting her head slightly to the side as her brother spoke. "If its boring you need to change things up, go have some adventures or find some" she said. It was obvious that Alex loved going on little adventures, walking around at night by herself was one of her favourite things to do, she could find a party or something fun and the sense of danger it entailed brought a certain thrill factor to it. When he asked about her recent adventures, she figured he didnt actually know about her incident the other night. Alex bit her lip as she picked up her glass, knocking back the wine before pleasantly asking the bar tender for another glass. She turned back to her brother and did a half shrug "ah just the usual, wandering around town, getting shot at, going to parties" she stated it very casually as though getting shot at was a normal occurance to her.

Lucy was grateful that James wanted to include her in the raid of the Romano's party. She still wasn't completely healed up she definitely wasn't going to miss this. The anger that she had toward this family was something that she could quite explain. From the moment she was born, she was taught to hate this family. Yet she knew almost everything about them and at some points in her life was actually curious enough try and speak with them. The encounters really didn't go well because both of the children knew who they needed to hate. Never really learning the truth about each other. But the rage inside of her was far too strong to care now, they could hurt her as many times as they wanted but fuck with her siblings and they were gonna pay.

Looking over at James, he seemed to be nervous as he loaded his gun. She smirked as he hummed in tune with the piano. Lucy could sense that their time was coming and it was coming fast. A knock on the door brought them all to attention and James moved to open it, bring the refreshments inside and shutting the door gently she watched the men take their pick before James offered her a drink.

"That sounds lovely." She breathed out, letting her anxiety about what was going to happen, she took the glass. "You alright doll?" She purred before bring the wine glass to her lips.

“Hmmm…” Xin frowned. Was it because it was a weeknight that the detective was unwilling to go? But the CPD officers were usually jumping at every little opportunity to get off work early. Perhaps he’d asked the wrong man. Or he just didn’t know enough about the man; Jon realized he hadn’t spoken often enough with the detective to know what would motivate Edwards to follow his orders. The lieutenant’s frown deepened into a scowl. He hated pulling rank, but he really did not want to waste an evening being an escort for Lieutenant Garths’ daughter.

“Well, perhaps ‘favor’ was a poor choice of words.” The lieutenant paused to give detective Edwards a pointed look. “Most of the officers assigned on-duty tonight have already left…and since you found the time to stop and chat with me, I don’t think you have any pressing matters to attend to.” Xin took a step back to give the detective more physical space; he didn’t want to make his coercion too obvious.

He allowed his expression to lighten up so he didn’t look so aggressive, but he didn’t smile. “I’ll clear your schedule for the evening, so thank you for your consideration in this matter.”

James knocked back his glass of wine as he walked to the window of the hotel room and looked outside to see things were still relatively calm outside. That would come in handy for when their driver needed to put his foot down afterwards. He then turned to Lucy as she asked if he was alright. He calmly walked over to her and nodded his head. "I'm good, Lucy. I'm just ready to get this done now. Are you alright?" he asked her.

James looked her in the eyes as his expression turned more serious. "You know I've taken a big risk bringing you along, so I need you to do something for me... You will get your chance for revenge - it's yours to take. No matter what I'm doing, once you've fired that shot, you are to get out of here. Those two," he said, pointing to the two other Irishmen, "they will help you get out of here. If your leg slows you down, they will make sure you get out safe. Promise me you will do that," he asked her. Whilst he had planned to be straight outside with her, he knew Conor had been acting a little odd and he would not leave either of Emmet's kids behind, regardless of how tough Conor and Lucy were."

The way Xin didn't seem to give him much choice in the matter and used the one time he'd bothered to make small talk against him pissed Steven off beyond words. This was the last time he'd force himself to make an effort with the jumped up lieutenant. "I have police matters to tend to which go beyond attending parties," he remarked. "Does this party involve a case? Perhaps it has escaped your attention that I'm a married man with children, so attending social gatherings does not exactly bode well with my reputation as an honest Christian family man." He then cleared his throat. "But seeing how much you want to pull rank and throw your weight around on this, I can only assume this involves a case. I now understand how important professionalism is to you."

Kitty grinned broadly and put her hands on her hips.

"Don't you know that I have my ways, Vinnie? I came with Frankie Vianello since Julia's sick, but I never expected that you would be the boss he was talking about," she laughed, "and I'm doing very well, actually. Living on my own, got a job at The Chicago Sun-Times. The future looks bright!"

She turned to face Gianna, her smile never dropping.

"You must be Gia. Vinnie told us so much about you; he never shut up." She extended her hand to shake. "I'm Kitty Avera. Vinnie and I were at the same base for a while during the war."

"Ah, it's a pleasure to meet you," Gianna said as she extended her arm to the women whose name was Kitty. It was rather an unusual name for someone to have, but Gianna didn't judge. She returned the same smile to the women. Gianna held her husband's arm close and tightly. "Seems like a good turn out," Gianna said as she referred to a number of people that were present at the party. There was probably over 200 people here, it was a huge turnout. Alena did plan this party to a Tee.

Alena was off doing her own thing when Leo approached her. "Apple juice?" She said to Leo as she looked at him with her eyes raised. Alena was referencing to the time when they were at the pub together and Alena thought that he was drinking apple juice but it was really an alcoholic drink. "You know, not once did you ask me to dance." She said to Leo as she gave a small smirk.

Alex knew that hiding the word shot in the middle of the sentence was not going to go unnoticed by Monte, the kid picked up on everything. Alex opened up to him about what happened and when he accused her off holding something back, she told him how she had shot back and that she thinks she might have killed someone. They both agreed that this was not the time for the conversation and so agreed to talk about it at a later stage. She drank another glass of wine during that conversation due to the heaviness of the topic. She thought he was concerend about her, however with Monte it was hard to tell if he was worried about her or if he even cared that she got caught. She decided to go with the first idea since he was her brother. Alex finished her third glass of wine and excused herself to go to the bathroom. When she walked back out she came back to the bar to find that Monte was no longer sitting there and had gone off to talk to someone. She ordered another drink, a vodka this time and leaned against the bar, lost in thought. She wished that Conor was there to keep her company and she also wished that they had been in a position to bring Conor to an event like this without being afraid of someone dying. Still lost in thought she subconsciously took out a cigarette and lit it.

“Yes,” Jon cheerily agreed. “I suppose it is quite important to me.”

He feigned disinterest in the rest of the detective’s barbed words and smoothed a hand over the files that had gotten creased during their conversation. Jon wouldn’t normally let such disrespectful comments slide. He’d happily exchange verbal blows with Steven…if it weren’t for the fact that the detective had begrudgingly given in to his demands. Despite his irritation about Detective Edwards’ insinuations about his professional conduct, Lieutenant Xin counted this conversation as his victory.

He glanced up at the clock on the wall. “I will meet you outside the station in 15 minutes. We have another guest to pick up on the way.” Then, with a slightly dismissive nod, Xin headed back to his office to sort out the reports in his hand.
