The year is 2095. Technology has come a long way as cybernetics has become practical enough that they can surpass human ability. However Japan has enacted strict laws to prevent people from frivilously abusing the technology and generally people who have cybernetics without having had a previous medical condition as a reason for it are looked down upon. Despite all that among legitimate cyborgs there is a vibrant modding scene and there is a nationwide sports festival for teenagers with cybernetics to compensate for their disqualification from the normal school sports festivals due to their possible unfair advantages.

The school sports festivals for cybernetic youths has been dubbed "The Modded Games" and the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals are televised. Winners of the sports festivals get all sorts of job offers from the government and from other people too. However the job offers usually involve military jobs, police jobs or high profile security jobs. But not just jobs can be won, but also scholarships and prizes. The winners of the finals can get chrome, bronze, silver, gold or platinum medals, whereas all other competitions only go to gold.

Competitions: Local (home school only), Regional (within part of a prefecture), Prefectural, Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals

Disciplines: 100 meter dash, 1000 meter dash, 5000 meter run, 500 meter swim, 2000 meter swim, high jump, long jump, javelin, hand to hand combat, 10 kilometer flying, air polo (basically a ball game in the air), air cross (flying through obstacles on a course), 1 kilometer drag (basically a sprint race, running and flying are allowed), endurance race (run until exhausting power, only battery charge allowed), ball sports (soccer/football, basketball, volleyball)

The sports festival officials conduct a full body scan to make sure that schools don't cheat by entering a human like android into the competition.

Setting: Iizuna, Nagano prefecture, Japan. Rural town with a population of 9,000. Has two small train stations, a few restaurants, three conbinis, two grocery stores, a small arcade and dozens of specialty stores including a "parts" store (for electronics and eventually cybernetics). The town has it's own high school with 800 students. The town is surrounded by fields and mountains. It snows a lot in the winter and is pretty humid in the summer.

Iizuna Hokubo high school: Rather a small high school. It still has the usual things high schools have, just less rooms and less students. The high school has 800 students and an average of 30 students per class. Years go from year 1 to year 4. The school has a food vendor for students who dont go home for lunch or who stay longer. The school has sports fields and a track area. For swimming classes, students go to the local area swimming pool. The school has two lab rooms and two workshops for students learning electronics or engineering. One of the workshops is used for the cyborg track and field club after school for modification and repairs.

The school has a uniform that has two variants. Variant one has shirt and tie with pants (optionally shorts in summer) or skirt. Variant two is a sailor collar uniform with a skirt or pants (with shorts in summer). The uniform uses the school colors red and black. Usually the ties are red, bottoms are black and tops are white (sailor collar with black collar and completely black with red accents in winter). The school rules on dying hair and jewelry are pretty lax.

Starting point: Spring break is just over and you are ready for a new school year. (School lesson times can be skipped for character interaction and action.)
