history
Jun's life can be described as simple and normal, his father worked as an architect while his mother was a stay at home mom. Just a normal family living in the craziness that was Seoul, but even if it was set that he would just live like any other kid at a young age, Jun discovered two things his love for baseball, which he discovered after seeing the kids play once he went to the park with his parents and begged that he wanted to become a baseball player and that he had dyslexia which he found out when he started having trouble reading an identifying words but this didn't stop Jun, sure it made him struggle with school, but he knew he wouldn't let that define he set his mind into baseball and being friendly to his peers so he could be known for his sports skills and personality rather than being the dyslexic kid.
As time passed Jun managed to be known as the friendly and nice guy in class and as a boost of his ego, he became one of the best players on his baseball team, he was able to hide as much as he could his dyslexia, not that he was embarrassed for it, but he was used to be the kid that everyone looked up.
As he became a high school student he already knew what he wanted to do once he graduated, but still focused on entering a good university, but even if Jun is known for being social and easygoing there's one thing he can't manage and that is impressing the girl he likes which doesn't seem any impressed by him or maybe that he is just as clueless for love even if he seems confident of himself.

jiyoung's the type to prefer being behind-the-scenes, the crewman than the diva. much of her schooling thus far has been blissfully spent under the radar, and she's very content this way. not quite sociable, but not quite cold, she's really just more on the shy, introverted side. she's kind, but not naive; a person who feels for her old neighbour to the extent that she'll have tea with her every friday because she's worried she'll get too lonely, but also the type to talk her way out of lending you her notes. perfectionistic only when she's passionate about what she does, or afraid of getting her head beaten in by her parentsβ lazy otherwise. genuinely sweet, with good morals that are often at conflict with her non-confrontational nature. also has a stupid habit of sticking her nose too deep in things she shouldn't.

history
good morning, han jiyoung!
her family is nothing to really speak ofβ they're just a plain, old household. both her parents are careerpeople without positions in high places, earning enough for the family to live in a comfortable apartment and own a car, but jiyoung won't be getting any other luxuries besides a university education. her parents had always been on the prudent, practical side after all, having great expectations for their first daughter since she was a young child. their priorities focused less on talents and more on results, which jiyoung was able to live up to for the most part, at least when she was younger.
you'd know her as one of the "gifted" children, who were able to balance being young prodigies and somehow, the most popular kid on the playground. and with all gifted children, jiyoung burnt out. by the second year of middle school, jiyoung was no longer topping her cohort, barely managing to pull ahead in her class, her enthusiasm for studies and her hobbies being replaced by an obligation to please her parents. they berated her at the start, but her younger sister jieun had just been born a year ago, and it seemed her parents were similarly exhausted. "set a good example for her, at least. please." jiyoung could agree with that.
it's noon! how has everyone's day been?
come high school, han jiyoung had fully become introverted. she wasn't quite as interested in socialising with others, instead delving into a new passion she'd found the year priorβ photography and journalism. she'd joined the broadcasting and journalism club expecting an environment where she could focus on it, only to find a lacklustre group of seniors who tossed her the keys quite unceremoniously, as well as one other member in her batch. dull as she usually was, jiyoung was confident enough about her own abilities to turn the club around. or, at least she'd try to.
and she did, in a way. the lover's handbook had been quite an accident, to be honest. it hadn't always been called that. she'd just wanted to put together a magazine-podcast, anything to give the club something to do. jieun had suggested she include an advice column just for fun, and she'd listened, fully anticipating it to flop since the school's facebook page already served a similar function. the whole process of execution was filled with mishapsβ her last-minute edits didn't save, the girl her partner had conscripted to voice it failed to show, and jiyoung had to fill in last minute. in the end, no one really cared about it when it debuted, and jiyoung hadn't really been expecting otherwise. it was fun to try, at least. just for a one-time thing.
tuning in for tea time
until one afternoon, an anonymous letter slipped under the door, asking for advice; more specifically, on that of relationships. "i don't know if this is the right way to do this, but i'm too shy to ask my friends for help." it read, "but there's this boy i really like..." it was a very sweet letter, one that jiyoung wanted to ignore for the sake of her mental, but addressed anyways during the thursday announcements. and then more letters came, so much so that they put up a mailbox outside the broadcasting room. the lover's handbook became a regular segment every tuesday and thursday. it boosted the popularity of the broadcasting club enough for jiyoung to actually be able to select the next batch, though in the end, the newest group of first-years consisted of only three.
see, she was still trying hard to keep her identity under wraps. she'd be passing on some of the broadcasting work to gahyeon, a cute first-year enthusiastic about helping out, but when it came to responding, jiyoung would still be writing back to them. she was sure (for the most part) that nothing would happen even if her identity got out, but she didn't want the attention in the least.
either way, by her third year, listening to the lover's handbook was part of nearly everyone's morning routine. not everyone said they enjoyed it, but talk as much as they did, they still tuned in.
to be honest, mr. lovesick banana,
i don't think you stand a chance.

the school's resident heartthrob dj, with a soft voice that has garnered him a number of adoring admirers. chanyoung is a journalism senior who runs the radio station as its main dj in his free time as a personal request from the club's teacher-in-charge, who happened to be his favourite multimedia instructor. he's outwardly aloof, with a bit of a sharp tongue, but never without reason. somewhat arrogant and not quite sociable, chanyoung definitely seems intidimidating and easy to dislike if you don't bother trying to see otherwise. juniors who made the effort know him as one of the nicest seniors, even if he leans more on the tough love side. a big brother type, who tends to be protective in a way that's easily seen as jealousy, particularly because he tends to be very judgemental. chanyoung only gives credit where credit is dueβ his respect should be earned and that attitude doesn't sit well with some, especially those who already pick fault at his excellent grades and "undeserved" popularity.
