In the forgotten white desert, a castle stands tall.

It's black rock always cold, since the sun's fall.

Taken from family, taken from home.

Now you never walk alone.

Forced out there you were, when you were young.

Now lost to the cold, and to songs never sung.

Taken from light, taken from life.

Now you exist on the edge of a knife.

You are lost...

The stories of the lost echo throughout the south. The children that went missing without trace, that were consumed by the wild. All in the same day, all in the same place, all at the same time. The four friends that naively challenged the sands. That thought not of what they had been told, but of what they could experience. Of what lied beyond. Beyond the wild.

What they did was never return and as the winds of sand embraced them, their shadows faded.

Some say they were made a Driller's breakfast, some say they froze in the night. But most, they tell the tale of the castle in the sand. Because you see, in the Deadly Sands, the white grains are shards and the storms they kill. Only one has ever entered and returned in life. That one adventurer spoke of a castle black as night. It's walls thicker and it's towers taller than anything conceived by man. The remains of an ancient civilization, as old as time. A city clouded by dust, that was the city in the sand.

The adventurer's tale tells that the children were abducted, forced to the castle and made servants of the Lord of the Sands. For years they studied the forces, an art long lost to man. For one day they would split the dust and return to the world. But not as innocent children, even adults. But as free men and women who chose to do their Lord's bidding, not because they wanted to. But because to them, it was the only thing to do.

And they wouldn't return alone...

The Lost is a traditional, free form, fantasy roleplay which stars you as one of the lost, the powerful servants of The Lord of the Sands. After being abducted as a child you were forcefully raised in The Black Castle, something you didn't believe existed. The Black Castle stands in the Deadly Sands, where it has been hidden from the world for ages. Because you can not enter the Deadly Sands, or you would be torn to shreds by the silver sharp sand grains which fill the dunes. The sand storms in the Deadly Sands, they are deadly.

During the kidnapping you might have been scared, you might have feared the fact that perhaps you would never feel the warm winds of the wild again. That you might never stand face to face with your father. That maybe, you would never taste the light of day again. Those privileges were lost, perhaps forever. You might have burrowed your memories, so that you wouldn't lose them. You might have sealed the path to your heart, so that it could not be tampered with. And you might have stared at your shadow, for this was the last time you saw it.

It didn't matter whether you struggled or not. The foreign powers of the castle entangled your mind, locked it in trance and for years you would stay entranced, completely at your Lord's bidding, to serve his every need. Your training began shortly after and with your mind troubled but your wits sharper and your body stronger than ever before you were to complete it. Out of your trance you gained pleasure from servitude. Acting on your Lord's will slowly became what little purpose you had left in life, it drove you and caused you to not lose hope.

The castle's crippling effects started to shape you. Memories that once was, were no longer and love was but a simple emotion, something that could be contained. What had once been cold was now warm and what had once been warm was now foreign. You were no longer one of the children lost to the wild. You were a servant, you knew this, but somehow you felt as without identity. Somehow you were still lost, wandering the sands in search of a place to call home.

Years passed and your training was completed. The sense of achievement was the greatest feeling you had felt in a long time. Once again summoned to the ancient council halls you received your task. Ride through the sands, through the wetland, over the great mound, through the flower-dressed pass and into Livland. In Livland, you find the book, the one book that will reveal the ancestry and ensure your Lord's return, for he shall retake his place in history.
