Rules
01. This roleplay is for those who can write around 2 paragraphs; we're not aiming for novella, but a little detail is appreciated! Quality is appreciated over quantity, though.
02. There is no posting order, but players are expected to post at least once a week. If you can't, please just let me know; life happens and I'll always be understanding about it. This rule is just to keep the group running smoothly and avoid stalling due to ghosting. There may be a posting order in the case of some events, but it won't be a constant thing.
03. Be polite OOC and engage with other players; I want this to be a fun experience in and out of character! While characters can be rude to each other, players shouldn't be.
04. This RP is not first come first serve; I may accept characters right away or deny them (which if I do, you can feel free to ask for me to tell you whats wrong with the sheet so you can fix it). Please send me characters through PMs at first! Its easier to talk there, and only accepted characters will be put in the CS thread.
06. Real life FCs and descriptions are accepted; please do not use anime or drawings.
07. Have fun, above all, because that's why we're here

  • Kristi 'Coop' Cooper
    1622415607817.png

    Age: 17

    Gender/Pronouns: Cis Girl (she/her)

    Sexuality: Bisexual

    Role: Weirdo

    Timeline: 1

    Grade: 12th/Senior

    FC: Kathie Lam

    Body Mods/Scars: Pierced ears

Clothing Style: Coop has a color-block jacket that she commonly wears around when the weather isn't too hot, though times like that can be minimal in Boulder. Otherwise, she has a fondness for patterned short-sleeve button downs, usually tucked into high-rise jeans. She has a pair of hiking boots that she usually wears, which have been muddied from constant use during her exploration of the area. She makes her own earrings, and they usually incorporate the skulls and bones she collects. She also has a necklace that has a pendant made of rubber, which she has a bad habit of chewing on.

    Personality:
+ Positive-Thinking | Coop is an optimist. She tends to expect the best outcome to a situation, or at least see the silver lining.
+ Creative | Creativity tends to be her wheelhouse. Her varied hobbies are testament to that, and she admittedly values those pursuits over her academics
+ Friendly | She will talk with nearly anyone who doesn't walk away. She has very few negative opinions of people, and has been known to approach people at random to strike up conversation with them.
+ Understanding | She believes wholeheartedly in benefit of the doubt, as well as going under the assumption that sometimes, people are having issues she's not aware of that can affect how they act around her. It takes very little to get her to forgive someone, and she is decent at lending an ear to people's problems.
+ Smart | Coop isn't exactly a bookworm or extremely academic, but she has managed to get good grades rather consistently through her high school career. She considers her creative pursuits more important, but she's quick to grasp concepts after they're explained to her.
    - Forgetful | Remembering dates, names, and faces isn't the easiest thing for her. She tries her best, but it usually doesn't end up working. She has forgotten entire interactions she's had with people before, and if a appointment isn't in her calendar, there's a 99% chance she won't remember it.
    - Lack of Understanding of Social Cues | When she starts talking, she doesn't stop easily, even if people seem less than enthused. Sarcasm sometimes flies over her head, and passive aggressive comments tend to be ignored. If something isn't said to her bluntly, it may not be understood at all.
    - Curious to the Extreme| Coop's curiosity has more often than not gotten her into trouble. She sneaks into places she really shouldn't, and asks questions that people would prefer she didn't.
    - Trusting....Arguably Too Much | She believes in seeing the best in people, even if it isn't really there. This has led to her more than once believing people at face value about things they say rather than making judgements based off their previous actions.
    - Lack of Impulse Control | When Coop gets an idea, there is little time between thinking it up and actually doing it. She doesn't plan things out often, nor think them through entirely.

Hobbies: Coop is all across the board in terms of hobbies. She's very into art of different types and usually has a sketch book on her at all times, and tends to spend time drawing people she sees, which isn't always appreciated by the subjects. She also likes to explore Boulder and the surrounding area, collecting bones and skulls from any carcasses she finds, which doesn't exactly help her image as the 'weird kid'; she dabbles a bit in foraging while she's at it. She's also been known to spray paint some of the machinery that's been left behind in the woods and outskirts of the area, seeing as no one is using them any longer and they're a bit of an eyesore.

Habits: When excited, Coop flaps her hands a bit. She also tends to move her hands a lot when speaking, even if she's holding things, as well as bounce her knee when she's been sitting still too long. When nervous, she chews absentmindedly on her necklace pendant, though stops when she actually notices what she's doing.

Problem: Her younger brother, Henry Cooper, went missing a year ago. It's been hard on her family, especially since efforts to find him have slowly dried up.

Drive: Coop is arguably most driven by curiosity. When there's unanswered questions or weird happenings, she's one of the first to look into it, even if other people brush it off as nothing. Her plans for the future, despite being a senior, are minimal; she lives in the moment, and in a town with a lot of anomalies, that moment is mostly spent chasing after explanations.

Public Image: It's likely that many people know that her younger brother went missing and was never found. Other than that, Coop is probably not viewed in the best light by most people due a combination of her odd hobbies and interests as well as her over-friendly demeanor and tendency to not catch on to when people want her to stop talking and go away.

Background: Kristi Cooper has been in Boulder most of her life. Originally, she lived in Michigan near one of the lakes, but ultimately when she was 4 her family moved to be near the Loop in Boulder, as both of her parents were researchers invited to work there. They've been there ever since. She had a fairly average childhood; at age 6, her younger brother Henry was born, and they were inseparable for some time. She ended up breezing her way through elementary and middle school, grade wise. She never really had any close friends, but it didn't seem to bother her too much.

In high school, it was mostly the same, other than her trying out a few clubs. They were mostly academic, at the encouragement of her parents, and over the years consisted of the debate club, mathletes, and during one dark period, the trivia team. She didn't exactly try to succeed in any of them; her interests were more aligned with the artsy clubs, but, while not explicitly told not to, her parents frowned upon them enough to dissuade her from attempting to join any of them. Their insistence on academics-only activities and their want for her to get one of the prestigious internships offered by the Loop caused a bit of tension between them, heightened by Coop's habit of going on adventures.

This let up a bit in Coop's junior year, when Henry Cooper, her younger brother who was 10 at the time, disappeared one night. While it wasn't unusual for her to wander off, Henry was different; he was a nervous boy who tended to stay home as much as possible and, to their parents delight, enjoyed spending time with his nose in a book. It was more concerning than it would've been if Coop had gone off on her own for a while, so their parents were quick to look for him, along with others in the area. Unfortunately, they turned nothing up.

Since that point, Coop's parents have been more lax with her, but they haven't completely stopped pushing her. She's been trying her best to avoid them, honestly, because the pressure hasn't helped with everything else going on. She's hoping at some point to gently break to them that she has no interest in working at the loop, but isn't sure how to do that in a way they'll accept.

    Important Friends/Family:
Marianne Cooper | Mother | Researcher at the Loop
Jacob Cooper | Father | Researcher at the Loop
Henry Cooper | Younger Brother | Student; missing since the prior year.

Inter-character Relationships: N/A for the moment; @ me if you want to come up with stuff!

Keaton Finch

BASICS

Name:
Keaton Finch

Age: 18

Gender/Pronouns: Male, He/Him

Sexuality: Questioning

Grade: Senior

Role: Motorhead

Timeline: 2

FC/Description: Rob Lowe

Body Mods/Scars: Small chip in his front left tooth. Has his right ear pierced and the number ’43’ tattooed on his right ankle.

Clothing Style: A lot of sleeveless shirts, flannel, work boots, and denim all over. Definitely rocks cutoff jean shorts, has a large collection of band tees. Usually grease stained.

PERSONA

Personality:
+Clever:
Due to a lack of drive and a busy life, Keaton's a below average student in most areas but in another life he could be interning at the Loop. He has a surprising talent for math and engineering and is a very creative problem solver.
+Confident: Keaton moves through life without hesitation. Outgoing and self assured, if he wants to do something he’s going to do it.
+Handy: Give Keaton a wrench, some duct tape, and thirty minutes and he can fix just about anything. At least temporarily.
+Energetic: A seemingly endless well of energy pilots Keaton and he constantly has dozens of projects going at once, hopping from one to the next whenever inspiration strikes.

-Reckless: He’s the friend other kids' moms warn them about. To be fair, he’s definitely jumped off a few bridges in his life.
-Insensitive: Machines are simple, humans are complicated. Keaton has a habit of forgetting that and it’s easy for him to accidentally hurt other people with his own carelessness.
-Self Destructive: Keaton’s ‘life fast, die young’ mindset and habit of pushing himself past his limits are starting to take their toll. He’s constantly on the move and has very little regard for his own well being.
-Aimless: Keaton doesn’t really know what he wants in life. Most of his thoughts of the future are still filled with childish fantasies of being a racecar driver or building robots but with the way his life is going he’s starting to think neither of those are likely.

Hobbies: Keaton loves tinkering. Cars, robots, household appliances, anything that can be torn apart and put back together is guaranteed to catch his interest. While car races are his greatest love, he’s not above legal sources of adrenaline- he's an avid runner and can often be found zipping around the outskirts of Boulder on a cobbled together dirt bike. When he manages to slow down for a minute, he’s probably annoying his neighbors with his mediocre but enthusiastic drumming or hanging around the Arcade.

Habits: Always carries a bandana, touches his tattoo for luck before races

Problem: His father and older brother are both in prison. It’s put a massive emotional and financial strain on his family and Keaton’s considering dropping out of high school to work full time.

Drive: He’s a thrill seeker. There are some vague ambitions of becoming a rally racer but at the end of the day, he’s just chasing a high.

Public Image: Keaton is generally considered a public nuisance. Between his family’s reputation and his own brushes with the law, teachers and cops alike have low expectations for him.

HISTORY

Background:

Keaton was born and raised in Boulder, the second son of high school sweethearts Henry and Margret Finch. From the moment he could crawl he was his older brother’s shadow and Colt and Keaton became the bane of their neighborhood. The pair would race out of the house every morning rain or shine, returning after dark with skinned knees and ill gotten gains. Their parents did their best but with both of them working and a toddler to look after, as long as the boys came home at all they were free to do as they pleased. Most of it was harmless- throwing rocks at things, sneaking into the movies, nicking candy from the grocery store, releasing frogs in the public pool. Colt was always the wilder of the two, in part because of all the fights he got into defending Keaton from his older friends.

When Colt reached high school a gap started to grow between them but he still found the time to teach his little brother about the facts of life- how to score girls, who to buy weed from and who not to buy weed from, which gas stations didn’t ID. Keaton was 13 the first time Colt gave him a driving lesson. A love of cars ran in the family and they’d driven out to the desert in his Sunbeam Lotus. While Colt smoked and lectured, Keaton sat with grim determination until he was given the sign to go. And then he slammed on the gas. He reached eighty swerving MPH before Colt managed to tell him to slow down in between cackling laughs. Keaton hasn’t looked back since. Every free moment was spent working on cars with Colt and Henry, the two of them letting him take tiny sips off their beers as they spent long summer evenings sweating in their garage. Despite being a fairly intelligent kid, Keaton’s grades began to slip around this time. He simply lost interest in school and would often skip class to go work on his own projects that he salvaged from the junkyard. Books and tests felt pointless when he could learn how to actually do the things they read about. Maybe he electrocutes himself more often than a trained professional would, but he’s learned quite a bit about the outdated robots and other odds and ends he’s pulled out of the trash.

Their carefree lifestyle caught up with them when Keaton was 16. It turned out the mechanic Henry and Colt both worked for was pulling in extra money running a chop shop and they were busted in a sting that earned them heavy sentences. With two sources of income gone, Keaton started working at a local restaurant as a dishwasher while also doing the odd repair job on the side for cash. The one bright spot was that he was given Colt’s Sunbeam for safe keeping while he’s away. Already connected to the local car scene in both Boulder and Vegas, as Keaton’s skill as a driver grew so did his taste for less than legal races. They’re not only a great release for the mounting pressure he’s been feeling, they’re also a way to earn a little extra money if he’s lucky. Despite a few close calls with local law enforcement he’s managed to keep himself safe so far but he’s been growing more reckless in the past year and has been spending a lot of time with a rough crowd, partying and pushing the limits of what he can get away with.

Important Friends/Family:
Henry Finch:
Father, currently in prison
Margaret Finch: Mother, veterinary technician
Colt Finch: Older brother, currently in prison
Daisy Finch: Younger sister, freshman

Name: Ryan Netzine

Age: 17

Gender/Pronouns: Male

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Grade: 12th
Role: Jock
Timeline: One

FC/Description:
{(Lucas Partyka)}
b0d02c5388d47a23a9803893cbf07d2c.jpg0bcf8d079ccf8eb4fb5093d4b011093e.jpg
Body Mods/Scars: Has a long scar going from his hip up his lower torso, faded with time.

Clothing Style: Ryan sticks a healthy middle-ground between fashionable and utilitarian, more than willing to occasionally catch the hottest trend but never to the point of idiocy.

Personality:
+ Meticulous
+Clever
+Perceptive
+Determined
-Callous
-Cynical
- Judgmental
-Workaholic

Hobbies: Besides football, Ryan engages in several other sports in the small amount of free time he has. Tends to collect postcards often.

Habits: Uses journals to catalogue of his day so that he can check back on events with ease.

Problem: Ryan's older brother ruined his promising future due to something that happened during his university days. Now the topic of Edward Netzine is a sore subject, as he's been essentially full cut from the family. This scenario has inspired Ryan to engage in a rather unhealthy campaign of self-regulation to ensure he could never fall prey to such a thing.

Drive: Ryan's eager to live a life of success, make a name for himself that the Netzine family can be proud of. He's aiming to reach this goal through properly taking advantage of his physical prowess in football, and with every day he gets just a little bit closer.

Public Image: Most of Boulder's populace will either know Ryan or at least his last name. The Netzine Family is rather well known due to their financial connection to several of the bigger businesses in town. That being said, Ryan is unquestionably the star Football Player of the town, which is probably what most people would know him for. The Staff of the local High School will also know him for his rather good grades, but most in the school will know him for the gang of troublemakers that form around him known as Ryan's Rogues. The actions of the Rogues tend to put him in a rather bad light for students and even some teachers, whether he's directly involved with them or not.

Background: The Netzine family had already been a wealthy name, but Richter Netzine's knack for finance and oversight took them to the next level. Raised the middle child out of five siblings, Ryan had to work hard to distinguish himself from his siblings early on. Luckily for him, he'd had a knack for physical activity early on. Participating in little League for years, he already had ambitions to capitalize on his physical capabilities from early on. Though he was more than willing to bank on his natural advantages and love for sports, that changed when his oldest brother's luck ran out. Having been born with a natural curiosity that let him breeze through a number of courses, Edward Netzine was almost guaranteed for success. Many of the younger Netzine siblings looked up to him due to his chipper attitude and educational success, but that just made his unfortunate fall from grace far more damaging.

Whilst at University, Edward got wrapped up in a business venture that not only had him pulled from his studies, but had him wasting his hefty allowance on the pursuits. The result not only got him kicked from the University, but tarnished his relationship with his family heavily. Seeing someone so respected fall so hard had an effect on the other Netzines, namely Ryan and his sister, as the younger twins were too young to know Eddy as well as they did. While Brenna was convinced to focus on following in their father's footsteps, Ryan was convinced that natural talent was nothing if not backed by rigorous and stringent training.

He began curating his own training regime, and soon this intense self-oversight bled into other aspects of his life. A proper training regime can't be maintained without a meticulously coordinated dietary system after all. Why stop there? Just because he was physically unmatched didn't mean he shouldn't be as knowledgeable as possible, just to be sure that future teams or managers didn't think they could pull one over on him like that guy who led Edward astray.

By the time Ryan got to High School, he had sculpted himself into a naturally influential individual. Between the popularity his physical prowess garnered him, his family's influence on the town at large, and the impressive scores, he was nothing if not one to keep an eye on.

Though Ryan succeeded in making himself the star player on the school's football team, his relationship with his teammates was nothing if not dicey. While his own abilities were unquestionable, Ryan would consistently attempt to bolster the performance of his team by regimenting their training as well. The only thing holding him back was the coach, who prized Ryan's abilities yet couldn't stand being undermined by him whenever they were at odds over strategies and team composition.

What didn't help was the company Ryan kept daily, as during school he was often surrounded by a clique of fairly stereotypical leeches and idolizers who were eager to ride his coattails whenever they could. This lot, colloquially referred to as Ryan's Rogues, were far less adept at curating themselves as Ryan was. Grouping up as they did, many members would often turn the excessive confidence they fostered in each other against anyone they deemed easy targets. As a result, many of the Rogues would gain reputations for Misconduct of all kinds, souring many people's views of Ryan as he was often seen as the leader of the group despite his apathy over them keeping him from actually directing their efforts.

Ryan had no qualms with being in the company of the Rogues, mostly he just liked having all his risky factors in one place so he could monitor and keep track of them in case they ever turned their ill-will on him. Its been fairly useful, as he's easily been able to identify high-risk individuals then immediately sell them out to school officials whilst simultaneously turning the other rogues against them. Because of this, former members of the Rogues have viewed Ryan with even more hatred as the general student body, but simply aren't in a position where they can act on it.

Besides that issue with the Rogues, to the greater knowledge of the town Ryan's one of the promising Young Netzine kids who's already making a name for himself. While he could just be satisfied with a label like that, Ryan refuses to let complacency get to him like it did his older brother. Real success comes from covering as many bases as possible, and there's few things that agitate Ryan more than an uncovered base.

Important Friends/Family: The Netzine Family- Often known to be the Rich Family of Boulder, the Netzine are known for having financial stakes in several of the businesses around town. Originally just wealthy because of some family fortune Richter Netzine's parents brought from their homeland, Richter magnified those gains through mindful financing. After marrying Sofia Gillmore, they raised five kids. The oldest, Eddy, engaged in a rather poor-minded business venture in college that all but ruined his promising future and had him cut off from the family fortune, he could be anywhere at this point. Brenna is currently learning under Richter in order to take his place when he's too old, and the younger Netzine girls are a pair of twins named Natalie and Natasha who are currently in middle school.

Ryan's Rogues- There are number of students known for misconduct who tend to congregate around Ryan due to his influence and status. Chase and Theon are the most well known due to their multiple suspensions, but Reina shouldn't be overlooked. The rumors about her and Ryan are as plentiful as the ones she spreads about others.

Name: Delia Carron
b29a6bdb751dd77d780c966026f2c848.jpg

Age: 18
Gender/Pronouns: Female / She/Her
Sexuality: Bisexual
Grade: 12th
FC/Description: Delia, in her own way, is beautiful. Her features are sharp and thin, and she excels in using just the lightest touch of makeup to accentuate her already model-esque qualities. She is very slender, standing at a surprising 5’11” and a petite 135lbs, and her naturally dirty blonde hair is cut just below the ears in a sweeping, airy bob. Her eyes are a light hazel, with a few beauty marks adorning her porcelain skin.
Body Mods/Scars: Delia has plenty of piercings. There are at least three in each of her ears, a nose stud, and a belly ring. She has a couple tattoos, on her back, ankle, and behind the ear.
Clothing Style: It’s very easy to tell at first glance that Delia is one to partake in the more alternative style of clothing. Basically, she dresses like a hippie. Bell-bottoms, headbands, flowy blouses, clunky crystal jewelry and eastern patterns. She has no problem showing skin but her style isn’t promiscuous. She just cares to express herself in a way that’s comfortable and unrestrictive, but she definitely does it with a lot of style, most of it from her mother’s closet.
Role: The Party Animal
Timeline: 1

Personality: Delia is an easy going personality. She can hit it off with anyone if they can spit it right back, and though sarcastic, she’d never be mean to someone who didn’t deserve it. Her main goal is to keep life a party at all times, and so she surrounds herself with people that make her feel like it. She’s a well known face around school, but despite her decently high social ranking, she has no qualms about who she’s talking to, nerd or jock.

But with little thought for the future ahead of her, Delia isn’t exactly one to act carefully. She can be reckless in her pursuit of a quick high, always banking on her good looks and charm to get her out. Though not much really seems to phase her, not many have been able to pry deeper into her own personal desires past the heat of the moment. Some have called her a bit brash, and her disdain for authority is more than obvious, but her unpredictable personality has made her a name on everyone’s tongue at school.

Hobbies: Delia is something of a small time musician and artist. Her friends sometimes ask her to play at their parties, but she does also gig at coffee shops with her acoustic guitar, electric bass, and vocals. She’s also known for her eye for design and artistic creativity and can sometimes be convinced to paint school banners and decorate for school events.

Habits: Smokes cigarettes. She twirls her hair, plays with her jewelry, and draws on her arms with sharpie rather often. Those who are close with her know she’s always out and about after dark, and if not with someone or at some party, she’s often wandering around, or perched at her favorite slide in the park.
Problem: Her family’s lack of desire to participate in the American rat race has left them scrounging for cash in less than legal ways, and payment for the house always seems to come just barely. The absence of her oldest brother hit the family hard, and her middle brother is always getting into some sort of trouble that may eventually get too deep for him to climb out of .
Drive: To most, it seems Delia is motivated by the desire to have fun. Truthfully? She doesn’t know what she really wants. There’s a desire for something past this small town, past the nasty looks the uppity people give her and her family, and past her family’s “no worries” mentality, but oftentimes her sight falls too short to want to reach it. For now, she’s just trying to graduate, keeping the thoughts of making something of herself, well, to herself.
Public Image: The Carron family is known for their illicit drug use and partying tendencies. They’re not considered respectable by any means, mostly a “bunch of hippies.” Delia hasn’t done much to separate herself from this image.

Background: Delia is the youngest and only girl in her family after two older brothers. Her family is known for their less than stellar work ethic, her parents two lovebirds still living in the high of their 60’s Woodstock days. They weren’t exactly the most involved parents, but they weren’t negligent enough to get CPS called on them, and she had her two older brothers to look after her. Rodney and Francis were her protectors in childhood, raising her to be a rough and tumble tomboy that took no shit from anybody. Rodney was always something of a golden boy, too good to come from the family he did. Francis, however, was always something of a rotten egg. He fell with the bad crowd rather quickly, and always left it up to Rodney to bail him out.

Her parents didn’t really seem to mind, though. Especially with the weed garden in their garage. It always bothered Rodney, though, the type of life they lived, not caring for anything except the high of the moment. So when he graduated highschool, he enlisted in the army. It was out of the blue, and Delia was shocked. He’d always been the one thing shielding her from the influences of her family, and with him, she had nothing in the way of the party life her family had raised her to enjoy.

There were always odd figures circling around the house, but Delia grew not to mind it, trying to be as self-sufficient as possible. She busied herself with music, art, though her own hobbies didn’t keep her from the family reputation. Once highschool started, she made a bit of a name for herself, her family name catching up to her quickly as Francis had already graduated, a plug needed for all the parties in his absence. She came, she sold, she partied. She got comfortable.

But with senior year rolling around, the comfort has diminished. She’s eighteen now, and it’s beginning to feel like the 'no worries' life her parents live in this tiny town isn’t what she wants for the rest of her life. She just doesn’t really know how to make that happen.

Important Friends/Family: Julia Carron -- Mother and “alternative” yoga teacher. The dead opposite of a PTA mom, Julia seems almost oblivious to the town’s disdain for her and her family.
Kyle Carron - Father, doer of odd jobs around town and drug dealer.
Rodney Carron - Currently enlisted in the army, overseas and has little contact with the family.
Francis Carron - Only having barely graduated highschool, Delia isn’t exactly sure how Francis makes his living, but it’s never been in the most legal way, and he still hangs out with the “bad crowd” of people he became chummy with in highschool. He still sort of lives at home.

Inter-character Relationships: right now, some relationships i’d love to possibly see if they work out are:
maybe a on/off boyfriend, perhaps out of the troublemaker or the motorist
and possibly a band out of those roles!
anyone who needs illicit substances out of the popular roles like jock or snob probably handle some business with Delia
And I would love for some sort of lesser expected relationship between her and maybe the seeker, bookwork, or weirdo. Something a lot of people aren’t sure how to approach or surprised that they’re even friends, maybe from childhood or maybe they just have formed a little mutually beneficial relationship in highschool.
and maybe someone more school involved asks/convinces her to help decorate for certain events?
overall i'd definitely like to establish something with everyone!

Extremely simple - almost exclusively flannel and hoodies. Otherwise, he's wearing his varsity jacket and some jeans or sweatpants, depending on how lazy he feels. He is certainly not a fashionista, and he had never tried to be.

Personality:

+ open-minded
Although he can be a bit ignorant, Levi is always willing to learn.

+ outgoing
Levi is the type of person who wants to be friends with absolutely everyone - he can't stand the idea of someone disliking him.

+ level-headed
He's something of a peacekeeper among his friends. He never starts a fight and it takes a lot to get him riled up.

+ curious
He's not afraid to ask a question, even if it makes him look like an idiot. If he wants to know something, you can bet that he'll ask.

+ loyal
He's basically a Golden Retriever. Get on his good side and he would follow you to the ends of the Earth.

- unintelligent
In all honesty, Levi is not very smart at all; at least not 'book smart'. He's failing almost all of his classes, and it takes him a while to wrap his head around things.

- disorganized
He's a bit of a mess and he is prone to making messes without thinking to clean them up.

- ignorant
He's prone to saying the wrong thing, sometimes things that are offensive. He never means it, but he's just not very educated about most things.

- rowdy
As someone who hangs around large groups of footballers a lot, Levi is a bit too used to parties and having to yell to be heard. Sometimes, he can be a bit much.

- stubborn
Even though he's willing to learn, if he believes something strongly enough, he will not budge on it. Same goes for decision making; nothing you can say will make him change his mind.

· hobbies
The obvious one is football, but Levi also enjoys pretty much any other sport, considering his natural athletic ability. Other than that, just hanging out with his friends in any capacity is his main hobby - he's very much someone who likes to be around people at all times. He is also slowly learning to teach himself how to play piano; he doesn't totally get it, but he likes it enough to stick with it, although this is kind of a secret because he knows his friends would never stop making fun of him for it.

· habits
Often uses 'um's and 'uh's, probably way too much; he just needs the time to think about what he wants to say. Any object you hand to him, he will also toss up and down, no matter how valuable it might be. Not so much a habit, but he has a very expressive face - it's easy to tell when he wants to say something or when he's confused.

· problem
His mother died when he was young, and his relationship with his father is less than mediocre.

· drive
Levi wants to move way out of state. He's hoping to get a Sports Scholarship somewhere where nobody knows him so he can be his authentic self, rainbow flag and all. He wants to have a good life for himself, where he isn't hiding anything from anyone.

· public image
Levi is generally well-liked around Boulder, and known for being the star-athlete as well as a pretty genuine guy. Of course, no one knows about his family struggles nor his sexuality, but that's how he wants to keep it.

Background:

Levi is the only child, born to Violet and Jason Morgan, his mother being a fairly influential politician in Manhattan and his father being a lawyer. Growing up, Levi never knew anything but wealth and getting pretty much anything he ever wanted or needed. He never really understood his parents' politics, but his mother was a wonderful woman - someone who genuinely cared about the world and its people, and someone who wanted to make a change when change was called for. So, Levi could only assume that she was on the right side of whatever battle she seemed to always be fighting.

As he got older, Violet seemed to simultaneously become less involved with politics. She spent more days laying in bed or sleeping on the couch, and as a child, Levi always assumed that she was just working herself too hard. His father seemed constantly stressed, though, and often snapped at Levi for the smallest incidents. But he'd always apologize afterward, so Levi still never thought much of it. When he was twelve years old, his mother suddenly retired early and they moved from the bustling city of Manhattan to the quiet town of Boulder.

Levi picked up life in Boulder pretty easily - he was always good at making friends, and he thought the prospect of being somewhere new was very exciting. But his mother seemed to get weaker and weaker, and the older Levi got, the more he started to worry. Eventually, when he was fifteen, he confronted his father about it and asked him what was going on with Violet. His mother was dying of cancer; they'd moved to Boulder because she knew she didn't want to spend her last years in Manhattan. Levi was devastated. Young and naive, he tried to believe that Violet would be okay. Things would work out in the end.

Violet died when Levi was sixteen. She had been in hospital for a couple months, and it wasn't a shock, but Levi was understandable heartbroken, as was Jason. The two drifted apart, and Levi joined the football team in an attempt to distract himself from his feelings. As it turned out, he had a real talent for football, and that his father noticed. Now, football is Levi and his father's only connection, so Levi feels that he could never give it up, even if he feels a little uncomfortable knowing what the rest of the team would think about his sexuality. Still, football is his ticket out of the town where his mother died in, and his ticket to somewhere where he can be 100% genuinely himself.

Age: 18

Pronouns: He/Him

Sexuality: Unknown

Grade: Senior/12th Grade

Role: Computer Geek

Timeline: 2

Clothing Style: Prefers soft shirts that are patterned button-ups, printed shirts with game logos he enjoys, or the quarter-button shorts like the one he's wearing above. In the colder seasons he wears a slick black hooded jacket with red highlights. For pants, he prefers khaki jeans or zipper pants (Can unzip at the bottom to turn into shorts). For footwear, he mostly prefers converse sneakers.

Personality Traits:
+ Creative
+ Ambitious
+ Curious
- Straightforward
- Can Hyperfocus at Times
- Cautious

Hobbies:
  • Text Adventures
  • Coding
  • Dungeons and Dragons
  • Researching the Loop
  • The Arcade
  • His N.E.S.
  • Biking
  • Swimming
  • Photography
  • Video Game Theory
  • Board Games
  • Learning Japanese

Habits:
  • Will focus on a personal project so hard that he may lose sleep over it
  • Procrastinating with school assignments
  • Adjusting his glasses when they're sitting fine on his face

Problem: Not many many people close to Hal share his interest in game design and coding. His mom dislikes the interest to a degree encouraging him to lean into his excellence in math and sciences to get a profitable career like an engineer, like his brother. His father is less like this, as he is an engineer who works at The Loop, but worries that after the video game crash a few years ago, that a career in the industry may be easily losable. Hal truly wishes to prove himself to not only his peers, but his parents as well.

Drive: To finish his biggest project, a Text Adventure game he's working that he feels will break the market wide-open. Inspired by the great game Zork from about five years ago, it got Hal thinking. What about a text game that's more functional, more open-ended, with more characters and dialogue, and may even the best graphics of the new age: pixel art? Usually plans, writes, or codes some of this daily to hopefully finish it by the end of his High School years. He hopes that someday, he may even be able to move to Japan and work under one of the greats at one of the best game producers in the world: Nintendo.

Public Image: Not very impressive on the scale from good to bad. Pretty average, and has never really showed his early work to many people beforehand. He isn't a social outcast, but doesn't have many close friends.

Background: HIs family was not originally from Boulder, but from the suburbs of Indianapolis. An invitation from a college colleague that knew Hal's father was truly a blessing, as local work was starting to get hard to find. Obviously the family took it, and moved into town during Hal's eighth grade. Hal's parents now know many of the parents due to both work experience and general living conditions. And while moving in may cause a few outsider-based problems, Hal is generally semi-sociable and polite at most times, and thus fit in with a few groups at high school, meaning he never sat alone at lunch, but he never had any truly close friends.

Important Family Members:
  • Lisa Packard: Mother to Hal and Linus. Currently works as a Forest Ranger at the Valley of Fire. Despite her background, working a variety of physically laborious jobs, he supports her children in the hopes that they can find much more profitable careers that require less labor using technical and academic skills. Due to her occupation, she is known to be gone for most of the day and sometimes almost all night.
  • Pascal Packard: Father to Hal and Linus. Currently works as an engineer for The Loop. Payed handsomely for his work every day, yet still puts most of it into the bank as to not waste the family expenses (though slips the boys an allowance of $10 dollars every weekend). Works an average work day, and is usually the one that greets and says goodbye to his sons, as well as help with homework, personal problem, and cooking meals (though Linus and Hal will usually help with that as well).
  • Linus Packard: Younger brother to Hal. While Hal is only semi-sociable, Linus is nearly overflowing with people skills. He has a large group of friends that fluctuate every week or so, and like Hal, can fit in with different crowds as he sees fit. He excels at science, and has started down the path of becoming a civil engineer. A much more physical person, he's usually out later playing with friends, and has sleepovers and stayovers nearly every Friday/weekend.

Inter-Character Relationships: None at the moment.

APPEARANCE & PERSONALITY

Body Type: Ectomorph. 6’0. Marked by Seoul sunset skin that has been swept by the blue-grays of the city’s pigeons. Subjected to a rawboned and skinny proportions due to the absence of normal outdoor physical activity.

Hair Style: Layering over his forehead like the 20’s stock market, short locks across some frames of his forehead and longer in others. Old-fashioned, yet sometimes taking to avant-garde popism culture.

Hair Color: Like the black of new tires on a new ride; an avid color that warms harmony to his skin.

Eye Color: Mechanical brown like penny dusked under fire

More General FC/Description: Living a life less than ordinary, Jae-Sun has generic school-boy features. When his hands are commisioned to his keyboard and mouse, you can pick up on what’s textual and what’s unique. Take for a stance, his light-colored lips that are strangely not tidy; curses and math explotives smoke over the glades of the bottom of his mouth. His brown eyes, togged in the rims of his glasses and manuvering left and right on the computer screen become vying eyes that are as if they were polaroid-printed too great of ink. His space black hair is whisked downwards, framing his characteristically lunar, oval-shaped face. At full length, his build is ungainly like a curtain to open windows: thin and willowy.
Body Mods/Scars: None
Clothing Style: Always wears his leaded circular glasses with adapted vision. Smells of bath salt essences, and wears old-fashioned boyish fashion which includes oversized mason grey tees, flannels, and comic/fandom-based merch.

Personality: (at least 3 positives and 3 negatives):
  • “Thanks bud for the pizza. The..change? Oh, yeah, you can keep it.”
    • Thoughtful, likes to feel relatable. Jay likes to think of people like a library, each person a book he has not read. He’s considerate when it comes to understanding the deranged circumstances of others. Because he’s so disorganized in his own life, it comes easy for him to put himself in other’s shoes.
  • “Dude. I considered sending them a virus to make their lives a living hell. I could do it. I am that powerful.
    • Anarchic mischief, prideful. With a vehement sense of how to use his brains, he often takes an uncontrolled and purposeless ego in what he can achieve. He likes having a loose reign over others because he’s tech-savy.
  • “No way. It’s rolling in theaters already?”
    • Quickly satisfied, small expectations. It doesn’t take much for Jay to be happy whether that be a movie coming to town or small acts of kindness. Because he is usually so antsy, small things bring him the foreboding sense of happiness.
  • “You don’t need a calculator for that, you dumb fuck.”
    • Quick-tempered, testy. They say intelligent people get irritated by regulars fairly quickly. Jay belongs to such a class. He is demanding and snappy when it comes to people not understanding his level of thinking, mathematics, and analytics. He is not patient, but hasty when those around him don’t understand his thought and logical processes.
  • “Well, it’s better you don’t know.”
    • Weary of Trust/Secretive. Jay is willfully faulty when it comes to sharing memories, stories, and his life. He is almost always inverted when it comes to conversations that ask about him; he’d rather be geographically far away from talking about what has agonized him.
  • “Why would I move when I’m comfortable?”
    • Langurous &Slothful. Because Jay’s only terrain is within his swivel chair, action and all value to moving has been trafficked to minimalism. This development of his personality can be called lazy and lethargic, but there’s not a chance he’d change it. He’s bound to continue to be inert. As the story goes, the slow wins the race!

HOBBIES + MOTIVES

Hobbies: Level creation(gaming),coding, gaming at the arcade, sketching, reading comics, riding the train, listening to music while strolling at Valley of Fire State Park, chewing on gum, helping the librarian, reading articles, origami, board games, hoarding old junk, collecting different shoes

Habits: Tenting his neck, bouncing one knee when sitting, pushing up his glasses even if they are up already

Problem: (is someone in their family sick? did their father die?) His parents are always verbally attacking each other, and he desperately wants a way out.

Drive: (what motivates them?) He gets interested in oddities due to his lack of continuing to battle against hearing his nondivorced parents exchange blows. It’s the optimpism to get far away that lures and pulls him into the mystery of the disappearances of people in town. Secretly, he wants to learn why and how they disappear, so he can assume if he can do it too.

Public Image: (what are they known for, if anything?) Jay is known for being the unconventionally talkative kid who spends bizarre and freakish hours addicted to his computer.

BIOGRAPHY

He put away the envisions of Marvel and DC quicker than the Flash when he heard the word hero. A hero is almost impossible to be. At least, that is what the movies, comics, and books display. Heros are stashed away in an untouchable category. Flashy suits, muscles and supernatural powers were just a few of the borderline things that inspired everyone to believe that nobody could ever be them.

Not that he cared about heroes.

A beaker of time ago, his parents had come home with his newborn baby sister. Jae-Sung knew no one who could save her. He couldn’t.
The rural bumps in the road jerked his body up towards the ceiling of the jeep. A thud in the back followed, reminding him of the black bag filled with his clothes. The vehicle strolled down the vacant road, passing trees privating the soft, morning sunlight. A pop song hummed lightly in the silence of the car soothing his mind. The windows were open allowing the soft breeze of early autumn to fly his hair back. He had squinted at the glare of the sun, but after a few moments had adapted to the light and his eyes had regressed to their former state- wide and yawning to landscapes. The town was barely abuzz. The stores hung “closed” signs, but the few cars in the parking lots notified that they were about to open soon. It was a peaceful car ride through town, and he was already starting to breathe. He wondered why they had brought his sister home.

Looks can be deceiving. A pretty face doesn’t mean a pretty heart and a dishevelled look can hold a kind soul. People judge quickly, their brains already racing to jot down unverified facts just by one’s appearance or murmurs the ears have heard and lips have passed down. We all do it. Sure we think something about someone, then amend our thoughts realizing that they may be different than we imagine, but we still did it- we judge. And, everyone thought they were the perfect family.

He knew if he went home, his relatives would be praising his mother and father on such a celebration, and they would drink champagne while the baby cooed into the night. But, they didn’t have to hear it. They didn’t have to hear his father threatening to leave his mom, and his mom quarelling how she could do the same. They didn’t hear the cries, the plates, or the cracks between voices.

At first, it was difficult: to block it out. He sat in his swivel chair with his hands shaking from the sobriety of not grappling his head. He sat there in front of a monitor, which had just been turned on from it’s paltry black screen. Wrapping his fingers around the clicker of the mouse, he was astonished that he could disappear. The codes he began quizzing together came out thick and bold, leaving an indent in his present life. The pointer winked as the force of his hand brought it down the line after. When finished, he was satisfied. The program was run, and a game was developed. It was filled with scribbles of letters and numbers, but he saw life there. It had been his first day of surviving from them. From then, computer coding and gaming came to him like a second instinct. When he had nothing to do besides stare with drooping eyes at the hands on the clock as his parents fought, he would power the computer up. It would be of the randomest things, such as doodling circles and shapes, the keyboard waiting to be tocked by fingers. He had a notebook filled with various pictures, drawn in a 2B pencil of things he could engineer. Suddenly, there came a time when he had to step up my game. He wanted to improve, and he did so. From coding, he tried to focus on the media of interacting games. With one slip of your hand on the eyelash, the entire structure could be destroyed. Now he was at a point where he could still proceed in learning more and try to fix the slightest of mistakes so that he could come to his own sense of perfection.

Important Friends/Family:
Craig McDonnell | Father (Deceased)
Maria Davis (McDonnell) | Mother

  • Kiki is a little intense for Amber's liking, her always 100% attitude clashes with Amber's own. That said, Amber likes her spirit, if only to watch the crazy shit she does, and maybe get involved if she's felling up to it. The duo get on well enough in small doses.

Amber McDonnell
16 (Junior Grade) / Asexual Female / Computer Geek / Timeline 2
Appearance
A Caucasian woman with clearly some dominant Scottish origins, Amber cuts through a crowd thanks to her bright red hair, permanent scowl and a threatening look in her eyes. As can be seen in the FC, her hair drops at about her shoulder level, an unkempt and messy mop of a style, though when she can be bothered to take the time to tame it, it is a somewhat stylish cut, if a little unconventional for the time. Amber is a somewhat unkempt looking 16 year old, more focused on her actions than her own appearance. She is short but rather rounded in stature, a fact that she hates when it's brought up. Her hands are scarred from her work soldering and pulling apart electrical components, and are usually burnt in some way or another.

The clothing she wears is mostly warmer and darker tones with long sleeves with little patterns or styles. Usually she is hearing a dark turtleneck or sweater with a bubble skirt and chequered leggings, leaning into an 80s British punk aesthetic without being too showy about it. Some mean looking boots complete the look. The whole outfit is supposed to make her look cute, but unapproachable, exactly what she wants to be - left alone. She's not above wearing brighter colours, just would rather leave that to the "attention-inclined".

Personality
Introverted: Amber doesn't do people. She can, but she prefers not to. Before long they say something that pisses her off or she says something that pisses them off. She has a somewhat dry and deadpan way of talking that she doesn't realise isn't always appropriate.

Hobbies: Boulder is a real Podunk town, but the stuff everywhere else is not. Amber is definitely not the outdoors type, and spends most of her time indoors, or salvaging what she can from junkyards, sales and trash, taking apart computers, engine parts, anything to learn how stuff ticks. She also has a good handle on software and electronics, and the technology brought forth by the Loop and Dart. he'd made a little bit of side cash by selling some of her gear to other students. Nothing dangerous, just some things that blink and beep and let you know where your keys are, junk like that. When not sat at her desk or in the garage smashing something with a hammer, she's rollerskating around the neighbourhood, either for exercise or for hauling back smaller items.

Habits: Amber has a habit of over explaining and messing with others, giving them stunned looks when they say something she disagrees with, like she can't possibly fathom why someone would say such a thing. She also tends to by a little deadpan with explanations for her actions. 'Because I wanted to' is a common response.

POSITIVE TRAITS

+ Intelligent: Amber knows her way around a lot of technology and equipment.
+ Nerd: She's a huge fan of all pop culture, and often drops a reference or two into conversation.
+ Endurance: Amber rollerskates often to get around town.
+ Focused: If she can't do it, it can't be done.

NEGATIVE TRAITS

- Childish: Amber's conversations tend to quickly become profane, and she often gets annoyed when chastised for her profanity.
- Braggart: If she knows she's the better person in the room, she makes sure that everyone else knows it.
- Reckless: Amber is always keen to explore a place or a thing, even when she definitely shouldn't be.

Background
Amber and her family only recently moved to Boulder, having originally lived in New York, though the suburbs, not the city itself. Her father is a computer engineer and often brought work home with him, leading to an early fascination in electronics. From her mother she doesn't have much in terms of shared interests, though by physical appearance, she is a spitting image. Her mother was the one originally from New York, while her father was a first generation Scottish immigrant, the two having met at work. Her intelligence meant that she struggled to connect to kids her own age, and spent most of her time with her parents.

Recently, her Dad got sick and passed away, leading to a breakdown in the relationship between Mother and daughter. During this time, Amber kept to herself and focused on her work, pouring herself into learning about technology and software. It was a way of keeping in touch with her dad somehow, still having a piece of him around. After months of refusing to cooperate, arguing and fighting, the two realized that their former home was just too different without Dad around. In an attempt to try and get a fresh start, her mom took a job in Boulder for a company unknowingly providing supplies to DART and the Loop.

As the new kid, Amber's main goal was to keep to herself. She built herself a persona around keeping people away from her and being someone difficult to talk to. She's made a bit of money off of other kids lack of computer knowledge, but her real passion is her more clandestine projects.

Public Image: Amber is mostly avoided, which is what she prefers. Some people know that she makes weird little gadgets and stuff, but probably not the extent of what she actually does to create them. More people have definitely seen her roller skating than programming. There's rumour she was involved in a prank last year involving the fire alarms and the PA system, though it was never confirmed. It's totally true though - she was the one who started the rumour in the first place.

Problem: Boulder is a bonkers town. The weird things that were happening as well as disappearances of houses? It worth looking at, and the logical explanation was that the Loop had something to do with it. Amber's hobby eventually led her to recovering files from one of the Loop's internal servers, a bunch of recordings she has been unable to decrypt thus far. The only one she managed to decrypt and watch was of them basically starting up the Loop, nothing interesting.

A few days later the arrival of 2 security guys to her and her moms house led her to believe she'd stumbled onto gold of some kind. For safe keeping, she transferred the files to a floppy disk before hiding them in the woods behind her house. Anyone looking on her computer for the files would find no evidence. Since then, Amber has been keeping her head down, decrypting the files when she can. She's hoping that pretty soon she'll crack whatever encryption is on them, and hopefully make some progress on her investigation.

Drive: More than anything, knowledge. Amber wants to know what others don't, especially when related to the mysteries in Boulder. Because of that, she often pokes her nose where it doesn't belong, or goes looking for things that should be left alone.

Skylar
Wiley
About

Description: Skylar's eyes are hurricane blue. Darkly serious, intuitive, alert eyes, eyes that are quick to turn. He blinks a lot, even more when he's nervous. His hair is like a dense forest, thick as a thicket, brown like cedar, unruly and styled by restless sleep. He would never be mistaken for an athlete but he lacks the timid elusiveness of shyness. He's meticulous, and has a habit of tapping his fingers against his thigh, against his desk, against the back of his neck. He smiles easily when he's nervous, and he has a wide, fleshy smile.

Personality: Skylar can come across as standoffish, curt, and sometimes cruel for his quick-witted but biting sense of humor and abundant criticism. He views himself as antisocial, but this may be a harsh judgement since he is ten times more critical of himself. He's not a stickler for the rules and won't hesitate to mock those who refuse to take advantage of the system due to a set of higher morals. The world is an aggressive, fast-paced land of opportunity to Skylar, and he strives to push through boundaries he doesn't agree with. He is fiercely loyal and cares deeply for his friends, but he has a funny way of showing it by constantly berating them and egging them to cave to his whims. He is self-reliant and resourceful, but lacks a good work ethic. His worst fear is public speaking, yet he has no trouble talking over the mic when broadcasting for the KGNU radio station.

Problem: His problem? His stepdad. The guy's a total douche. Has a righteous stick up his ass. Skylar doesn't like the way old Chris treats his mom, and Skylar isn't too timid to tell him his thoughts. The two of them are in constant conflict, verbal and physical. And that's not his only problem. Skylar is written-off at school as a nerd for his geek niche interests. He is frequently in trouble with the school for "borrowing" equipment and not returning it, as well as for occasionally being verbally abusive toward other students.

Drive: Skylar's main drivers are curiosity and spite. His interest in computers, coding, radio, and technology drive him to explore areas he perhaps shouldn't, and he lacks the moral restraint to respect ethical boundaries. He craves knowledge and understanding, and is willing to push even his own boundaries in order to unveil the bigger picture. His anger drives him to push past his own boundaries, often leading him into trouble with reckless abandon.

Background

Public Image: Skylar is notorious for his technological obsessions. Though not exactly friendly about it, he'll never turn down an opportunity to school someone in the ways of computers or FM radio, or to boast of his video game prowess. His voice can be heard far and wide on the KGNU radio station talking about community events, advertising fundraisers, and reporting local news. However around school he is also notorious for being an impatient, bastardoues, cynical asshat.

Background: Skylar Wiley comes from a lower middle-class family. He lives in the suburbs with his mom, Loraine, and his stepdad, Chris, and their dog, Pagan. He can be most often found in the computer lab in school, or in his parents' garage, tinkering away on his 3D models. He has a deep fascination with technology, especially that pertaining to FM radio and electronic gaming. His other hobbies include amateur coding, volunteering at the KGNU headquarters, and spending copious amounts of time at the arcade on Pearl Street. He also has a mild interest in your sketching and video game design.

Skylar's dad disappeared ten years ago, when Skylar was eight. No note. Not a trace. The rest of the people in his life have moved on, much to Skylar's frustration since he has found himself unable to. Thoughts of his missing father secretly haunt his nights and daydreams. To admit it he would feel childish, but he hopes that his father is still alive, being held prisoner by some nondescript. government entity. His fantasies run wild. Will he ever find closure?

Important Friends/Family:
Mother - Loraine Catherine Wiley (Alive): Skylar has a rocky but protective relationship of his mother. He resents her for moving on where he can't, and he feels bitter that she doesn't seem to understand his frustration. She works as a receptionist at a Big Company.

Father - Stephan Wiley (Presumed deceased): Skylar hoards his father's things and keeps them like precious treasures in the basement. It was his father who first introduced him to computing and programming. He was a software engineer at a nondescript government entity office.

Stepfather - Chris Cochrin (Alive): Skylar hates this man. And he has no problem showing it. Chris' attempts to connect with his step-son often backfire miserably as the two have very little common ground aside from Skylar's mother.

Pets - Pagan, the dog (Alive): Pagan is getting old now. But he's always been a good dog.

Inter-character Relationships:
Story Landdale (Snob) - uneasy confidants, they go to the same dog park
Delia Carron (Party Animal) - smoke buddies, they live in close proximity
Kristi Cooper 'Coop' (Weirdo) - they live in close proximity

THE TROUBLEMAKER (1)
CLOTHING STYLE
Just about every item in Tammy's closet is black, but aside from that, she doesn't have a particular style. She's known for wearing feminine, lacy dresses that don't match her personality one day to chunky platform boots and spiked collar necklaces the next. Most of the clothes she's bought, however, have been altered in some way. She likes to add her own personal touches to clothes, be it pins or patches to jackets, designs bleached into t-shirts with bleach on a paintbrush, or something else. She likes wearing things she knows are unique to her. It's also uncommon to find her without some sort of bold makeup & accessories. Even on a casual day, she's probably sporting thick eyeliner and some kind of funky earrings.

BODY MODS/SCARS
Pierced ears, septum, and navel. She has quite a few scars throughout her body but they usually go unnoticed due to clothing or tattoos.

PERSONALITY
(+) Loyal Friends don't come easily to Tammy, so when she considers someone a friend to her, she's incredibly loyal to them. Often to a fault. She's often blind to the shortcomings of the people she's close to and has a tendency to defend all their behavior even when she knows they're in the wrong.

(+) Empathetic She'd never admit it, of course, and her rude personality suggests otherwise. But Tammy knows what it feels like to be dealt a bad card in life. She has a soft spot for people going through shit - and even though she's not the best at dealing with feelings, she lets people know she's there for them in her own way.

(+) Fun She may not be the most out-going or optimistic, but the girl knows how to have fun. Sure, her idea of fun primarily consists of things that are reckless and/or illegal, but that's besides the point. She's entertaining at the very least.

(-) Selfish Most of the things she does are out of her own self interest. In most scenarios, she's willing to step on others if it means she gets what she wants. She truly believes she's justified in this, too. She thinks the world owes it to her after fucking her over so many times.

(-) Vengeful Revenge is incredibly satisfying to her despite the amount of times people have told her it won't make her feel better. She remembers every time someone has wronged her and strikes back twice as hard. She believes in karma, even if she's the one who has to carry it out.

(-) Pessimistic She expects the worst from everyone and everything and doesn't strive for a better future because she doesn't believe it's possible. This has caused her to be rather insecure and possessive in relationships and abrasive when people start to get close to her.

HOBBIES
Easily her most favorites would be making music and her fashion. She taught herself the guitar just by watching and mimicking musicians on MTV and occasionally writes her own songs. And she puts a lot of work into the outfits she wears. It's not uncommon to find her bent over a denim jacket with a paintbrush and spending hours painting intricate designs into clothes. Her other hobbies tend to be a bit more...Illegal. She likes to shoplift, vandalize, commit (usually) small acts of arson. You know, normal girlboss things.

HABITS
Weed, alcohol, and cigarettes for the most part but she's been known to dabble in some harder drugs when times are bad enough. Skin picking and nail biting. Stealing when she doesn't need to, often from friends and people she trusts.

PROBLEM
Her home situation itself is her biggest problem in life at the moment. After her mother left, the weight of taking care of the household has fallen onto her shoulders. This, paired with her self-destructive behavior disguised as 'having fun' is sure to bite her in the butt eventually. It's truly a wonder she hasn't ended up in a juvenile detention center already.

DRIVE
She wants to get out of Boulder. Desperately. But aside from her desire to leave, revenge and spite drive her.

PUBLIC IMAGE
She likes to blame her reputation on her father, but truthfully, a lot of it is her own doing. She's the kind of girl mother's warn them about. Trailer trash. A trouble maker. Destined to turn out like her father - a good for nothing junkie. Nobody ever has anything good to say about her, but it's not like she ever makes any effort to prove them wrong.

Maleficent-Mistress-of-World-Premiere-13.jpg

Body Mods/Scars: None
Clothing Style: Jace likes simple, casual clothing, with ripped jeans.
Personality: (at least 3 positives and 3 negatives)

-Brave: Jace is extremely brave, the typical trait of a trouble maker. He’s not scared of consequences one bit.

-Ambitious: Jace’s goal is to be successful. What does that mean? Jace isn’t really sure. But perhaps, it means to be the best at everything.

-Backstabbing: Jace does not hesitate to betray anyone, to get out of trouble. He’ll rat you out if it means that its the thing he needs to do to save himself.

-Calculating: Jace thinks many steps ahead, in order to make sure his schemes go well. Want to pass the test? Jace will think about it. By thinking about it, he’s considering the trust between teachers, ease of completion of the task and the cost.

-Greed: Jace is greedy. If you offer him enough, he’ll do anything for you. But once again, engaging in risky behavior and being caught does have a price to pay…

-Confident: Jace knows that he won’t be caught. He’s confident and cocky. He knows that he’s the smartest kid at the school, but he doesn’t care if you think he’s a nerd.

Hobbies:

-Scheming: Jace likes thinking. Some people can refer to it as daydreaming, but he can spend hours doing it, as long as he’s not interrupted.

-Chess: A way to sharpen his schemes, Jace enjoys a good ol game of chess.

-Basketball: Back in the day, he was pretty good at it. But he gave it up once he got to high school, because 5 ft tall Jace couldn’t match up to them. Now standing at 5’ 8”, Jace can be found shooting hoops at a nearby park. Although he might claim that all sports are just unnecessary endangerment, but in secret, he does enjoy a good game of basketball.

Habits:

-Biting his lip: Jace bites his lip when he’s nervous

Problem: (is someone in their family sick? did their father die?)

Jace’s older brother worked at the Loop. A promising engineer, he suddenly disappeared on the job. No explanation whatsoever was provided.

Drive: (what motivates them?)

Jace wants to succeed. That’s it. The goal of Jace Asher is to cause trouble, promote himself and profit off of everything.

But recently, he has been obsessed with the Loop. Why did his brother disappear? His brother had only disappeared in June, a time that had been set aside for a good ol family bonding camping trip. He has been searching for a way to get his brother back…

Public Image:

For most teachers, he’s known as that kid who’s fairly quiet in class. He might stay after class to ask a question or two. For all teachers, he’s a sweet and nice kid. For others, he’s the easy road to passing the class. There’s an air of respect surrounding him, perhaps because he’s the reason why many of the football players have been able to stay on the team. He’s not a frequent sight at parties but when he is, he’s generally dealing some sort of illegal material.

Background:

Jace was born to a middle class family in Boulder, Colorado. He had an older brother who struggled in school. Unlike Jace, he hardly scraped by academically, being more successful in sports. After being selected to go to famous university #1 to play football for them, his older brother became captivated by science and began to academically succeed. Jace was inspired by his brother and wanted to be just like him. His older brother was recruited by DART and started to work at the Loop.

Jace and his brother began to drift apart, as his older brother began to become consumed with DART work. Sometimes, he wouldn’t come home. Jace was sad and nothing could fill the hole of his brother’s absence. He felt like he was getting less attention, less things to do. Suddenly, he was bored.

Then, he found his life goal. The goal of Jace Asher would be to cause trouble, promote himself and profit off of everything. Starting an underground candy business in sixth grade, Jace Asher was caught red-handed in eighth grade. Shocked by his intellect that had been previously shrouded by his nonchalant attitude in class, Jace suddenly found himself being bumped up to becoming a high school freshman.

Unfamiliar with the environment, Jace found himself being picked on frequently. He suddenly realized that he was in the center of attention for the wrong thing. There were candy vending machines at the high school, so selling candy wouldn’t work. Realizing that he was being picked on for being small and intelligent, Jace took advantage of it, beginning to kiss up to teachers, using his position as Teacher‘s Pet to gain access to tests, quizzes, and homework assignments. He sold answer keys starting at a dollar, two dollars. He began to profit off of it, but that wasn’t enough. He wanted more. Jace wanted more attention, more respect. He wanted more power. That’s when he began to sell illicit substances. Well, more illegal stuff.

But even with all of that happening, Jace was bored. He had no love life, not much of an interest in dating and was pretty sure no girls were interested in him. But then, there was one event coming up that he was excited for, even if he didn’t show too much interest: family camping trip to California.

A month in the redwood forests of California, an awesome road trip and best of all, time with his brother.

But on June 1st, two days before they were set to leave, they received a letter in the mail. His brother had disappeared while conducting research at the Loop.

Jace was devastated. Vowing to find his brother, he tried to find out everything he could, but couldn’t find any important information. He began to research more and more about the Loop, almost becoming obsessed. His parents were concerned, but couldn’t do anything about it. They were mourning too.

Jace tried to break in, during the night. It didn’t work well. The Ashers were mortified to discover that their son had been escorted home, 3 AM in the morning, by the cops. His parents were upset that he was getting in trouble. But they couldn’t do anything about it. Well, they banned him from reading.

Jace couldn’t really do much research as a result. But he was still secretly successful at entering the grounds of the Loop. But he could never truly see it. There was always something that stopped him. Something that seemed like it wanted to spite him.

But with summer almost to an end, Jace is getting desperate. He doesn’t want his parents to know that he’s still entering the Loop. But he can’t skip school either. Trips to the Loop are getting more frequent…

Important Friends/Family:

Big brother: Jace’s idol; disappeared while working at the Loop

Parents: Trying to be nice and supportive. Still mourning the loss of their son.

Inter-character Relationships: (character|who they're played by|nature of relationship like enemies, friends, etc etc)

Thomas "Tommy" Clarence ( gingerwayne gingerwayne |Party Animal) : The Ashers and Clarences are good family friends. Jace has a nice friendship with Tommy, whom he admires. The two became closer after they discovered that they both had a little passion for rebellion.
Amber McDonnell ( Arai Arai |Computer Geek): Jace and Amber became acquainted after meeting at the library’s science section, specifically the section about the Loop. They’ve done extensive research about the Loop together and Jace values her as a valuable ally.
Hallard 'Hal' Packard ( Squad141 Squad141 | Computer Geek): tbd
Pixie/Kiki ( BuggaBoo BuggaBoo |Motorhead): They don't interact much, besides the whole drug dealing thing. They're acquainted with each other, but Jace doesn't really associate with her.
Keaton Finch ( plague rats plague rats |Motorhead): Jace doesn't interact much with Keaton, since Keaton sees him as a kid. When Jace does interact with him, Jace uses this to manipulate Keaton into doing whatever Jace wants...
Jesse Antonsen ( elytra elytra |Bookworm): Jace doesn’t like Jesse and Jesse doesn’t like him, due to their differences in academic honesty beliefs. They don’t interact much though. Probably for the best.
Kai Andrine Jorgensen ( starkravingsane starkravingsane | Troublemaker): Although Jace sees her as competition, he has a mostly positive relationship with her. After all, she does purchase his revolutionary grade-changing wares...

Description:
Height: 5'9"
Hair: Short, Cropped, Light Blond
Eyes: Blue
Physique: Kai is thin and wiry. Her body is well-toned from working out, mostly body-weight-only exercises and jogging.
Body Mods/Scars:
Three tattoos: compass on side of right arm; star on lower left abdomen; quote on inside of left upper arm that she won't let anyone read. All just black.

Clothing Style: Kai's style is pretty minimal. She tends to dress in t-shirts and jeans or slacks, very simple, androgynous clothing. She has a leather jacket that she is very fond of. Occasionally she likes to play with her gender expression and dress up in suits and more "masculine" items or present a more "feminine" appearance in dresses and makeup.

Personality:
Kai knows pretty much everyone in town, but she's close with very few. Her difficult upbringing gave her a serious lack of trust and difficulty letting anyone know her real self or real feelings, so she puts up a big front. She looks and acts very tough, but she does hold a lot of pain inside.

Kai is generally pretty friendly, but also makes sure it is known that she is not someone to be messed with. She will gladly enter a fight should the need arise. But for the most part, she jokes around with most people and has a few friends that she hangs out with on a regular basis, people who will agree to her wild ideas and impulses. But there's no one she is really close to, just people she spends time with. When people try to ask her personal questions, she deflects with sarcasm or making fun of them for asking.

Kai is generally a nice person. She won't hurt you if you don't hurt her first. She can just be very defensive and can sometimes see an attack where there is none. She is generally well-liked among her peers, who come to her to get supplies for parties and wild nights.

The somber teen mostly hangs out with people older than herself, which is partly how she gets her hands on alcohol and other intoxicating and illegal elements. Sometimes she hangs out with the seniors and sometimes she hangs out with young adults in the town, generally those with little ambition and too much time on their hands.

Kai is frequently sarcastic and throws one-liners into conversations often. She pokes fun at people when she is nervous or feels out of place, but she means well. She tends to give people nicknames.

Hobbies:
-riding her brother's motorcycle (doesn't have a license) when her father is gone or passed out or too drunk to notice
-plays guitar in an all- female/non-binary punk band
-partying
-art, drawing
-street art, graffiti
-reads a lot and writes as well, but keeps it to herself, doesn't want anyone to know/think she's a softie

Habits:
-habit of absent-mindedly moving her fingers as if playing a piano when she hears music or when a song is stuck in her head
-smokes
-drinks a lot of diet coke
-habit of flipping her hair around and running her hands through it
-curses a lot

Problem:
See backstory for more. Kai lives with her alcoholic father whose job at DART may be in jeopardy because of his drinking. Her brother disappeared and mother died, and her father hates her for causing much of it. Kai is really raising herself at this point, as her father wants nothing to do with her but is afraid of the authorities coming to the house again.

Drive:
Kai has a serious love of mischief. It's just in her bones at this point. She thrives on chaos; it's like an addiction to her. She thinks if she's not having fun, she's wasting her time. She believes in existentialism, and because there is no real meaning to life as she sees it, to her it means that life should be a neverending quest to have fun. And if fun means creating havoc, so be it.

She's always been curious about DART since she moved here from Denmark. Her father has never really spoken about it. He has answered her questions about it in riddles and metaphors that have only served to make Kai more curious. She's desperate to get answers, to figure out what actually goes on down there.

Public Image:
Around town, if someone or a group of people have been up to some mischief--have pulled a prank, stolen something, vandalized something--people generally assume Kai must have been involved. Some people hate her. Others find her endearing but also needing serious adult supervision.

The teenagers know that if they want to have a good time, they can go to Kai and get what they're looking for, but there's also a chance they could end up with more than they bargained for.

Background:
Kai and her family--father Jerrik, mother Cille, and brother Hagen, age 10--came to the US from Denmark when she was just four years old. Kai adapted to the new country quickly, so excited to experience this new world with its warm sun and fast pace and candy bars, so many candy bars. Her parents, however, did not adapt as easily.

The family came to the US because her father, a theoretical physicist, had been offered a well-payed position at DART. Things went fairly smoothly for the first couple of years. Her father's position was stable, her mother worked at a deli counter in town a few hours a week, and her brother seemed to excel in every way.

Hagen soon became the golden child of the family. He had had some lessons in English, but now he became fluent quickly, which enabled him to excel in school. It also helped him become popular among his classmates. His parents didn't know, but Kai did, that he actually ruled with force at school.

The Jorgensens regaled in their son's accomplishments and treated Kai as second-class at best. She was up to that task, able to validate herself and her own accomplishments as she also learned the language quickly, gradually losing her Danish accent. She got mostly As with the occasional B in school and teachers always loved her because she was well-mannered.

Meanwhile, Jerrik was coming home from DART grumbling and complaining about this and that. In fact, he was grumbling about just about everything these days. He had always enjoyed a glass of wine or vodka here and there, but his drinking gradually began to increase, and with it, his anger.

*******************Trigger warning: sexual abuse

Although Kai was able to overcome her parents' indifference to her, she was not able to overcome her brother's sexual abuse. It began when she was 6 and Hagen was 12. For years Kai was convinced by Hagen's threats not to tell and was afraid her parents wouldn't believe her anyway because of their reverence for their perfect son. But eventually the abuse took such a toll on her that Kai took the risk and told her fifth-grade teacher.

Much to the Jorgensen's chagrin, the child protective services became involved and Hagen was sent away to the countryside to a boys' rehabilitation facility. Jerrik, Kai's father, became overwhelmingly angry at Kai but knew he couldn't really show it. So he showed it through facial expressions, body language, grumbling under his breath and time he was near. And Kai's mother mostly ignored her daughter now, doting over Jerrik, whose drinking was now a big problem that she had to work to hide. Cille helped Jerrik get to work when he was hungover, helped him explain to people why he was palid or why he had been out sick so much.

During the abuse, Kai had begun to act out, and a couple of teachers had called home, but no one paid much attention. But it slowly got worse and worse. Kai was skipping school, smoking cigarettes, drinking beer, and always hanging out with older kids. As time went on, her parents would occasionally yell something at her about it, but she would just laugh at them and walk away, and they let her.

Two years after Hagen was sent away, when he was 18 and just a few months shy of graduating high school and the rehabilitation program, the Jorgensens got a call from the facility at which he was staying. Hagen had disappeared, and they did not know where he was.

Kai's parents were absolutely distraught, as well as irate. They hired private detectives, they hired lawyers, they did everything they could to find their son and get back at the facility that had lost their precious perfect only son. In doing so it came out that Hagen had managed to get involved in some heavy drug use and even was selling it to other residents at the facility. The Jorgensens would never believe that despite all the evidence piled against them, though.

****TW: mysterious death

Three years following her brother's disappearance, when Kai was 13, her mother died suddenly in her sleep. Her father told her that her mother had died of a heart attack. But Kai saw her father speaking with detectives a few days after her mother's death and her mother had never had any heart problems, had been in great health--besides her mental health--so Kai knew he wasn't telling her something.

These days, it's very, very quiet in the Jorgensen household. The only sounds are the creaking of the old wooden floors, doors, stairs. And sometimes Jarrick grumbling under his breath when he's home and conscious. Lately Kai has sensed that his job might be at risk due to his drinking.

Kai has always been extremely curious about DART. On the rare occasions she and her father have spoken about it, she has felt that he talked in riddles and metaphor that she could never quite decipher.

Important Friends/Family:
father Jerrik (YEH - rik)
mother Cille (SEE - leh)
brother Hagen (HAH - gen), 6 years older

Name: Earl Ashbridge

Age: (preferably 16-18): 18

Gender/Pronouns: He/Him

Sexuality: Bisexual

Grade: 12th grade

Body Mods/Scars: He has some tattoos on his lower arm and a few scars litter him as well. Some even disrupting his tattoo

Clothing Style: He wears very comfortable but fancy clothing, he is after all somewhat of a scholar. He wears a white dress shirt, black pants, and black dress shoes. He has an intelligent look to him overall.

Personality: Earl is quite a curious little thing, while others talk to each other he’d rather be hunting down the supernatural which he believes to be real. He’s so curious he often gets lost in his own little world, not many being able to get through to him at all. Books stack high in his room and trinkets are scattered everywhere.

He may be curious but when he gets bored he goes into sort of a depressive faze. He has to be kept interested or he gets sad, leaving him too long to think about everything.

One might think Earl would be socially awkward but he has quite a bit of tact and can even read people pretty well. He’s spent his ears analyzing objects, spirits, and information so people come even easier to him. Though he can be extremely brutal at times, especially with idiots. Though most see him as being weird and weak, he gives as well as he takes. He has a snappy personality and considerable amount of sass and wit. Earl isn't something to mess with.

Hobbies: Earl, as stated before, loves to find himself lost in a good book or any good case for that matter. He sort of acts as a freelance detective, willing to solve anyone’s mysteries.

Habits: He has a really bad habit of not paying attention to where he’s going, running into people often. Earl also has a habit of stealing food off of people’s plate, he’s cute what can he say.

Problem: Earl got thrown out of his family for believing in such ridiculous things according to his parents. They think he’s insane and maybe that’s not entirely false. No one is entirely sure if what he sees and hears or real of if he just needs to be put in a mental ward. Earl seems pretty normal at first glance and not many known of his... situation.
Drive: He has a thirst for knowledge/Proving his parents wrong

Public Image: He’s almost like an information broker and a detective combined, if you want to know something you come to him.

Background: Earl grew up in the town of Boulder, his parents loving the place for whatever reason. It was a small, cute town to them. His upbringing was a hard one as he was believed to have an overactive imagination. Sleep did not come easy to him even as a child due to hearing things. Whispers... Noises... Earl was easily frightened by these. He always heard voices and noises from within the walls of his house. Ordinarily that overactive imagination goes away once one grows older but it never did for him.

It got to the point where he was hospitalized, the doctors thinking it was schizophrenia. Unfortunately nothing worked. Then it escalated when he started sputtering about ghosts and spirits… His parents had had enough3edd05009f889cacad7948084de59ebb.jpg and kicked him out half way through highschool. They didn't know what to do with him and it was a disgrace to have a broken child. There was no way he'd be successful.

From there, He managed by himself by living on the streets and with the help of some of his friends, which he has very few of. He's determined to get his education though and prove his parents wrong.

Name: Benjamin Levi Taylor
Age: 17
Gender/Pronouns: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual (he doesn’t know that)
Grade: 12th
Timeline: 1
FC/Description: Nick Robinson

Benny is pretty unmissable for a number of reasons. First, he’s gawky. Standing at an impressive 6’3” and supposedly still growing, even he seems not completely used to his height at times. The next would be his very bright and gleaming smile. No one seems to be able to dim his aura of goodness, and with the height he has over the flooded school halls, most everyone gets a good view of his bright-eyed demeanor. With deep brown eyes and tousled, mousy brown hair, he’s got a bit of a soft face as compared to his lanky but athletic body, and overall could be considered pretty good looking. A notable feature, while not visible, would be his rather thick country accent.

Body Mods/Scars: Benny had a pretty rough and tumble childhood and has earned a number of scars, but none are too noticeable. He does have a good story for each one, though, and would pretty eagerly retell them.

Clothing Style: Though Benny has begun to realize his normal style of flannel, boots, and a cowboy hat does not exactly blend in in Boulder, Colorado, and it’s been a bit hard to shake. He wears his cowboy hat outside of school pretty often, but otherwise has managed to collect a few pieces of clothing that are a little calmer. Some hoodies and sweatshirts have made their way into his wardrobe, but it doesn’t do much to dampen the aura of the midwest. Either way, he has very little eye for style and fashion, finding comfort in a few certain pieces that he has no idea how to match to others.

Personality: A soul dipped in gold, there are few people that Benny can find in his heart to be cruel too. He wants to see the best in everyone, and it’s not even much of a conscious decision. Some may call him thick, because at the heart of it, he sort of is a little dense, but it comes bound to the best intentions. Holding grudges? A near impossible feat. Getting angry? Even more unlikely. If someone is looking a little glum, he’d try his best to cheer them up. Innocent, but not stupid, he’s easily comparable to a golden retriever.

Benny tends not to dwell on things that bother him, and because of this, struggles to reach a level of deeper emotional maturity. While he is kind, thoughtful, and gentle, he tends to clam up when things get a little more complicated, big brown eyes searching for a hand to guide him rather than make a decision that could have lasting effects. Though he is eager to help, he is scared to make waves, and while he may be bubbly and warm to people, he can sometimes struggle with bouts of depression that he doesn’t quite know how to name.

People who befriend him know he wants nothing but the best for his pals, and if treated with kindness, he will return it tenfold. He’s actually got a pretty good sense of humor, and lives to make people laugh, and also would love to share just about any skill he knows with those who are willing to listen, while he, too, is a great listener. He can feel when people mock him for his upbringing, but tries not to let it go, thinking it a very important part of himself despite Boulder trying to tell him otherwise. It’s a struggle to stay genuine, but Benny does a pretty good job at it.

072cbf07a65a751f44f6d9a9ac5d4af9.jpg
Hobbies: Benny loves to work with his hands. Fix a leaky pipe, dig inside the mechanics of a car, build or hammer something, you name it, he’s on it. Despite his tall form, he is very proficient with manual labor and heavy lifting. He’s also found some friendship on the football team, having been on his middle school team back at home, and is pretty good at most sports. He also loves nature, exploring, and adventuring. Boy Scouts was a beloved activity of his growing up, too, so he has a pretty good sense of how to get around without getting lost.

Habits: Has a bit of trouble sitting still unless he’s doing something with his hands, so he is prone to fidgeting or fumbling. Mumbles and talks to himself when he thinks he’s alone, and is also a very good whistler and does that often. Prone to a very bouncy leg. Benny is also dyslexic and struggles in school because of this (and a number of other things.)

Problem: Benny’s rather happy and simple life was uprooted when his biological mom showed up in Georgia and plucked him from his home, moving him to Boulder. Though it’s been three years now, Benny has still yet to call Boulder his home, and deals with great amounts of homesickness. He lives with a strangely distant mother, who took him from his home but seems to enjoy being busier with work than spending time with her stolen son. This leaves Benny alone a great deal of time, which he really dislikes. He is also only barely getting through school. Overall, he’s dealing with a lot of turbulent emotions that he has no idea how to handle, and at the root of it, feels very out of his element, and very, very alone.

Drive: At this point, Benny just wants to make it out of Boulder sane. He’s waiting for the moment he turns eighteen to be out of his biological mother’s grip and hightail it back to Georgia, or anywhere but here. It’s senior year now, and he can almost taste freedom.

Public Image: The country transplant. Not many have such a thick midwest accent around Boulder, so he gained a pretty decent reputation pretty quickly. That, and he’s also made a couple waves on the football team. He’s been victim to a bit of bullying but his lack of ability to comprehend it has allowed it to simmer down now that he’s entering senior year, and also joining the football team has helped get the target off his back.

Background: Born in the tiny town of Deepstep, Georgia, Benny was the oldest son to Margerie and Coulter Taylor. He did not stay an only child long, as his parents always dreamed of having a big family, and got to it rather quickly at that. One sibling came after the other, and soon enough, they were a family of nine, including his parents. Big, loud, and bustling, the family busied themselves on the farm that their parents owned and operated together, so Benny and his siblings grew up learning the tricks of the trade. Tending to the land, the animals, driving out to farmers markets, doing farm dinners, and more. Exploring their great amount of land was one of his favorite pastimes, as he and his siblings would spend their days getting lost in the creek, collecting bugs, sword fighting with sticks, and roaming the acres.

His childhood was simple, and to be frank, Benny never had much of any desire to look past it. He loved his home, his family, and as the oldest, it was pretty clear he was going to take over the farm along with his siblings, or at least, first, help his parents run it. His siblings loved him, their big brother Benny, and he loved them just as much. Life was simple and good, and he had no worries for the future. Nothing could have prepared him for the night that he heard his parents fighting in the dining room. Benny was fourteen and had just graduated from middle school. He left his room bleary eyed and half asleep to find another woman there, shouting angrily at his parents. Benny remembers seeing her for the first time, and being startled by how much her eyes looked like his.

He wasn’t offered much explanation. At least, it didn’t feel like much. Apparently, his mom wasn’t really his mom. Before she’d married his father, he’d been with this woman who showed up in their house one night, and she hadn’t wanted to be a part of Benny’s life. Until now. Somehow, she had spun the legal view in her favor, and was there to take Benny. She seemed high class; tight suit, red lipstick, high heels. Someone like her never made their way to Deepstep. But she did, and she wouldn’t leave without him.

The rest of that night was a blur, but in her little red car, unlike his dad’s great pickup truck, Benny found his face pressed up against the glass and his stuff packed in the tiny trunk as he said goodbye to the only place he had ever known and loved, and with it, the people he called his family. Suddenly, a new life began in Boulder, with a woman he barely knew as his mother, a strange town, and a new school to tackle. He’s tried his best to acclimate but Boulder never became home for Benny, and he’s doing all he can to bide his time until he can find his way home again.

Important Friends/Family: Karla Morton - Benny’s biological mother who uprooted him from Georgia and brought him here. Employee at the Loop. The two aren’t close.
Margerie Taylor - Stepmother, apparently. Raised him until the age of fourteen on her and her husband’s farm.
Coulter Taylor - biological father who somehow managed to meet the mystery that is Karla Morton and have Benny with her. He married Margerie shortly after, and took Benny from Karla.
his half-siblings in order from oldest to youngest (after Benny): Hattie, Timothy, Justin, Julie, Kevin, Marnie.
