Its been 80 years since the 4th great ninja war. The peace still stands strong between all the nations but in one, The Land of Fire, there are some struggles. In the Land of Fire there is civil uproar. The Shinobi of the north wish to have a change. They believe that the shinobi should be feared, that they should be considered above the civilians and not be equals. The south believe that things should stay as they are. The shinobi and villagers working together in harmony. Will there be civil war?

The mist was thick over the islands surrounding Kirigakure. The sun couldn't penetrate through the layers caking the area. There was an eerie silence as the swirls of mist moved across the crystalline lake. The surface was disturbed and the ripples shook through the water. Eight pairs of feet splattered on the lake's surface. The labored breaths were the only thing to be heard. One of the shinobi coughed and there was a splash that followed. The visibility was terrible and near impossible to see what happened. Two shinobi walked over to where the sound of the splash occurred. They kept their backs to each other and were wary of their surroundings. Another step sent a ripple across the water and two splashes broke the silence. Five pairs of feet stood still over the lake as it turned back to glass. A labored breath and panic was beginning to set in.

"Must be difficult, Hiro. Taking over The Undertaker Squad and being assigned to hunt your predecessor."

The splashes quickened as they all ran trying to avoid their deaths. They formed up and stayed close hoping to find a way to counter the technique. A man yelled out, "It was your doing! I wanted none of this!" Another splash and there was only four pairs speeding to the lakes edges.

"Was it? I'm sure it was only a matter of time before your greed pushed your ambitions over the edge, Hiro. Now my comrades fall into a slumber too soon."

They made it to shore and the woman hurried to break the mist apart for an opening. Her hands like a blur signed Tiger, Ox, Dog, Rabbit, Snake. Wind Style: Great Breakthrough. She raised her hand to her lips, inhaled and blew out an enormous gust. The mist dispersed from the immediate area she directed it towards. The lake was serene and had the bodies of the team floating in pools of vermillion surrounded by the aquamarine waters. The small group stood facing the lake and couldn't see their target. The sound of metal slicing into flesh was the only indication that their former captain was behind them. Two bodies lay in halves and the spray of blood splashed along the remaining two. The man held his blade firm, the blood soaking his blade. He towered over them as his crimson hair flowed gracefully in the breezed the wind jutsu created. His celadon eyes were passive and his pale skin was moist with the water in the air.

The remaining two jumped back and landed on the surface of the lake. Hiro looked over at him with disgust, "You killed the people you led for your own survival. You've become the monster you have forever hated. I'll be the one to take your head to the Mizukage. You dishonor the late Godaime." Hiro shouted out. Hiro made swift movements with the woman beside him. His hands signed Boar, Dog, Ram.
Water Release: Tearing Torrent. Water surged on his palm and hers and they shot the spiralling torrent of water outward towards him.

"Forgive me, Irana..."

Mao stabbed the great blade between them and jumped back before the impact snapped the blade at it's hilt. He was already beginning to weave signs and he closed his eyes as he placed his palms towards the remnants of The Undertaker Squad. Lava Style: Dragon Bullet. The earth formed into a dragon with molten scorching rock brewing lava in its core. The lava built up and shot outward with intense heat and speed. The water was evaporated as it collided. Mist enveloped the area and screams ended seconds from the bullet impacting the hunter-nin. The lava skidded and glazed over the lake causing the water to steam. Mao landed on the ground and watched as his justu returned the earth to normal and he bowed his head.

"Hiro... "

A woman was rushing through the forest along Konoha's boarders. Hopping from tree branch to tree branch, she kept pushing her self to go faster. It was humid and sunny out. The shade from the trees did nothing to stop the shinobi from feeling the heat. It did not help that the anbu uniform she was wearing was black and covered her whole body, along with a white chest, arm, and leg protectors. Hearing a piercing scream the woman jumped and landed on the ground. Her head whipped into the direction it came from. Her dark plum hair whipping her anbu mask in the process. Being the medic in the squad she was the one they had to protect at all cost. They were supposed to be following after her. Hear another scream, this one male, she knew she had to head back. Sending chakra to her feet she jumped back up on the trees and ran back the way she came. It didn't take her long before she reached the fight. All she could see was her female teammate, the one who made the piercing scream before, dead on the ground with a katana through her chest. Her violet eyes widened. She searched for her other squad mate and their captain. "Aki! Daichi!" She yelled in a frantic voice. And then there not 10 yards away were four Konoha anbu. Their captain, Daichi, held a kunai out in a defensive stance. There, on his knees behind him, was Aki. Aki had a huge gash in his abdomen.

The woman jumped down and landed next to Aki. She could see Daichi stiffen. "Sora you were supposed to have gone back!" He yelled harshly at her. "I'm your medic! I had to come back." Sora knelled down next to Aki. Both her hands were glowing green healing chakra and she placed it on his Abdomen. Healing Aki she quickly took in what was going on. Daichi had the four Konoha anbu under his Shadow Imitation Technique, which is why they weren't moving to attack. She could see sweat forming on his neck. He won't be able to hold them much longer. She thought.

"Sora go. Take Aki and go. I'm sorry but you are going to have to tell the the leader the mission failed." Not wanting to leave her captian Sora hesitated before putting Aki's arm around her shoulder and disappeared. At that moment Daichi released his jutsu and the four anbu lunged at him, their katanas stabbing him through his stomach and chest.

Sora re-appeared in front of village north of Konoha. the last thing Sora could remember was being lifted up from the ground and being brought to the hospital. Things were getting worse in the Land of Fire. This was proof of that. Tension had grown so strong that the anbu decided to attack each other. That those in the south couldn't trust those in the north.

The steam rose to the sky and drops began to fall. Slowly at first and then a cascading waterfall of thick raindrops. Mao looked down at his hands and saw the blood flowing off his hands. A red river formed and landed on the ground splashing around his feet. His hands were clean yet in his eyes they were still bloodied. They would never be clean again. He shook his head and the long wisps of his velvet hair danced with the raindrops. He looked over to where his weapon laid and couldn't find the hilt. The impact of the powerful water style justu broke his blade off the hilt. He was surprised at the environment around him. The lake was glazed across it's surface and there was no evidence that a battle ever happened there. He went to search for the hilt and reclaim his weapon.

The hilt had been buried in the face of a hill far away from the lake. Mao was baffled at how far the torrent sent it. He reached the face though he sensed something nearby. Footsteps were coming from his left, on the opposite side of the lake. Mao hurried to get the hilt to his blade. He reached out and was interrupted by a kunai inches from his hand. He backed off and looked back to see a hailstorm of kunai. Mao gathered chakra within himself and vanished into the mist leaving light embers floating in the to the sky. The reinforcements gathered around the embers as they surveyed the area. They retrieved the hilt of Mao's weapon and avoided the embers until they died out. One hunter shook his head and muttered something, "Burning Mist..."

Mao reappeared instantly on the farthest island around Kirigakure. He gathered himself and tightened his forehead protector around his arm. The symbol of the Mist showing proudly out to the world. He was rogue now, but he was not ashamed of his heritage and he would not dishonor his grandmother's memory. He brushed off his coat with the attempt to keep the water off his coat. Though it was useless when it rained over you. Mao sighed and made a mental note to get his hilt back. He gathered more chakra and vanished again in a mist of embers.

It was the next morning and Sora awoke with the sun hitting her eyes. She groaned from the unnecessary wake up call. Why the hell didn't they close the blinds? Closing her eyes again she tried to fall back asleep. After a few minutes Sora gave a defeated sigh and sat up. Taking in her surroundings she realized she was in the hospital's recovery room. Everything was white. Such a boring room. She then threw off the thin white sheet that covered the lower half of her body. Her right hand started to glow with green chakra. Running the hand over her body, she made sure she wasn't injured in anyway. Well at least I don't have any damage. Just had chakra depletion. Just chakra depletion. She couldn't believe how casually she thought that. Chakra depletion was serious. Laying back down her mind raced through the events that happened the day before. The death of two of her squad member, one of them being captain. It shocked her when she felt cold tears running down her face. Sora Araii never cried, even for a fallen comrades. But then again never had she willing left a member of her squad like that. Especially the captain. Hearing foot steps in the hallway Sora quickly wiped her tears and then sat up again as the door open.

A nurse with a clip board walked in. Seeing the sheet on the floor she sighed. "Sora Araii you have been released. The Kage has already spoken to Aki so there is no need to see him right away." Signing a release forum, she handed it to Sora. Once the nurse disappeared, Sora stood up and put on her shinobi sandals.

It only took her a few minutes to check out of the hospital and back on the streets. She would have to go visit Aki at some point to see how he was doing, but at this moment all she wanted to do was sleep. Her stomach growled. Make that Sleep and eat. Sighing she headed towards the Araii compound.

The woods were a kind sight to Mao's weary eyes. The sun was finally up and his clothes needed to dry after his long trek across the body of water between Kiri and Konoha. He had always loved coming to Land of Fire when his team would---- Mao grimaced when he accessed that particular memory. His sight grew red and the world stood still. Mao felt the fire growing and the wailing scream chilled him to the bone. The scratching sound on metal was grating his senses but he couldn't react. He felt the blade pierce his chest and sever the ties that held his heart. The pain was unbearable yet he could do nothing. He stood with the blade running him through though no blood fell. His life was still as it was. A leaf fell on his forehead and shattered the images he was left in. Mao's heart raced and he held onto his bag tightly. He looked around and saw the signs leading through the front gate into Konoha. Mao checked the path to make sure nothing was amiss. He lifted his collar to hide his face and pulled his hair inside his coat to keep it from being recognizable. He shuffled into his bag and pulled out a bandanna to hold his bangs and keep his crimson hair from sight. He felt content with his appearance and began walking down the path.

The tall gates were open and people passed through like he remembered. The village was bustling just like usual though, he couldn't relax now. He was sure that Kiri had placed him in the Bingo Book. His kekkai genkai was their biggest trump card after the war, descended from his grandmother, Godaime Mizukage Mei Terumi. The elders wouldn't allow such a secret to leave their possession. As it was, he was feared by his own people that knew him by his moniker, Burning Mist. No one knew his name other than his late family and the elders. They would never divulge such information lest giving the nations a reason to capture him. Mao sighed heavily and entered the village, looking for a distraction.

While walking through the busy streets, Sora's body stiffened when she felt a strong chakra presence enter the village. Who in the world could that be? Her eyes started frantically searching the crowd of people. It wasn't chakra she was familiar with, and being Anbu, she knew a lot of people. Finally her eyes rested on a man with a cloak and bandana on. Once locking in on the man she slowly started to maneuver through the crowd towards him.

The crowd around the market was thick with merchants at their stalls and shops along with customers purchasing their wares. Mao looked around for some place he could cool off for a while. He still felt edgy after his mental episode earlier. Mao pressed forward sliding by people that looked content and ignorant of the worlds troubles. 'Nothing seems to have changed regardless of the reports the Mizukage recieved.' He bumped into a kid that was running through and he looked back as the kid waved and apologized. Mao smiled and waved him off and noticed something that didn't fit with the flow of the crowd. Though, he wasn't sure what it was.

Cautiously, Mao began slipping through the crowd and walked into what he was initially searching for, a ramen shop exclusively known for their technique and the non-stop flow of sake. Mao found his way to the corner of the small building and sat down facing the screen covering the entrance. Mao was intercepted by a young woman asking for his order. He smiled and ordered their house special and a vase of peach sake. He sat eyeing the door waiting to see if his shadow would emerge.

As she was going through the crowd a few people started to part for her to get through. Others just flat out ignored her and she had to shove them out of the way. Some people have no respect towards us. Sora watched his interaction with the child carefully. "I wonder if he knows about whats going on." She mumbled. Shinobi from other villages haven't been traveling through Konoha in a long time. Many of them didn't want their shinobi to have a problem because of it's internal affairs.

Her mouth formed into a frown as she watch the man head towards the restaurant. Maybe he just came for the food here. No. No one new has been in the village for a while now. Sora knew she probably shouldn't be following the man, but her curiosity on who it was was getting the best of her. Entering the Ichiraku's Ramen shop(just assuming maybe they expanded), it was somewhat full. So this is the place that the legendary Naruto ate at. Surprisingly she had never been in here before. Her clan's compound usually served good food and because of her families status in it she usually got food for free. A young woman came up and asked if she wished to be seated. Putting on a fake smile Sora said she was just looking for someone and the lady left her alone. Finding the man she slowly walked up to him. "It's been a while since I've seen a shinobi from another village come here."

Seeing a form emerge through the screen, Mao was surprised to see a young girl with such beautiful hair following him. As she spoke with the server, he quickly made a few hand signs under the table and placed a delayed justu on the bench opposite of him. She made eye contact with him and he explored the pearls set on her porcelain skin. He had to be cautious about the deception of looks.

The young woman came to his table and made a comment about him not being from the village. He smiled and looked into her eyes, "Yes, however I've been here before with my grandmother. She had some friends here. I'm visiting their.... graves from the great war. " Mao announced. Though, not everything from his story was false. He gestured to the seat, " Would you like to join me? "

Sora couldn't help but look at his eyes. They are so...green. Snapping back she realized she missed half of what he said. "...graves from the great war." She nodded and smiled at him. I guess he isn't a threat. For now. "I don't see why not. Not every day there is an outsider." She sat down in the seat he pointed at. The young woman came back asking if she wanted anything. "Just a glass of water please. Still recovering from yesterday." By now she was sure most of the shinobi and some villagers knew what had happened. The young girl disappeared. "So who was your grandmother? There were many people Naruto and then were friends with."

The woman sat down and asked him a personal question about his grandmother. He thought of someone that was somewhat believable but couldn't think of anyone. He looked down and bit his lip to think. He looked up and smiled, "My grandmother was a specialist in the war. Sealing justsu and such. Helped seal some of the Seven Swordmen of the Mist." He wasn't sure if he could think of a name but I don't think it mattered. He played with his bandanna when an itch happened to emerge behind his ear. He looked as the young girl brought his ramen and a large vase of peach sake. Mao thanked her and smiled widely. He had no intention of showing his true feelings at the moment. He was still distraught and needed a drink.

The vase found its way into his lips immediately after the young girl left. He gulped down one long drink and placed the vase down on the table. He felt the alcohol swirling into his body and it relaxed him immensely. He looked over to the woman and smiled,
"I take it you are part of the military force in Konoha. Do you not see shinobi from outside these walls? I thought the peace was still strong with all the nations." He grabbed his set of chopsticks and ate some of the ramen in the pork broth. He leaned against the booth and took in the smooth flavor the broth had. The broth is what Mao enjoyed the most in his ramen. He opened his eyes and looked over to the young woman, "What is your name, by the way?"

"Well she must have been pretty powerful and important then."Sora watched the mans movements intensely as he itched his ear and as the woman gave him his food and drink. She also handed Sora her water. Seeing his wide smile she crossed her arms. "You know you don't have to be so polite towards her." She mumbled. She could see him visabley relax a little after taking drink. Hearing his comment about peace in the nations, Sora became slightly confused. She tried her hardest to hide it but she failed to keep a stoic face. Her right eyebrow shot up. "Peace is....yes there is still peace in this nation." I guess he doesn't know. Feeling parched she pick up her glass water and took a a few sips. Putting her cup down she smirked at him. "Now what kind of shinobi would I be if I just gave out my name to every outside that asked?" Leaning back against the booth she just stared at his green eyes. "I'll tell if you do. And trust me when I say I'll know if you are lying."

His mind was wandering and he ignored most of what she said. He had more to drink and he brushed off the peach liquid that dripped off his lips. Mao's eyes were narrowed and his breathing was shallow and hardly audible. He looked at her when she stated her response to his question. 'I guess that would make a bit of sense.' He drank a bit more and leaned onto his arm. "Mao. My name is Mao. I'm from Kiri. And I like your hair." His words came out in short phrases and his tone soft and seductive. His mind wasn't entirely in the right state yet he didn't care. He would be pleased with anything but the memories that flooded his mind. He pushed the bowl away and the young girl lifted the bowl and almost took the vase of sake away before Mao snatched it out of her hands. "Sorry, miss. Not that. Bring some more. Thanks."

Sora was slightly appalled by the way he was drinking. A shinobi should never let his guard down like that. His tone of voice caught her slightly off guard. "Well Mao, It's a....pleasure to meet you. My Name is Sora. Sora Araii." She knew he was probably drunk. No one would out rightly say something like that. At least here they wouldn't and not to her. Sora's eyes narrowed at him when he refused to let the young woman take the vase away. "You know Mao," She leaned forward, her arms resting on the table. "It's not good for a shinobi to be drinking as much as you are. Especially in a place where you don't belong." Her voice was stern. She felt like she was scolding a child.

Another swig of the delicious peach sake went down his throat and he placed the vase down lightly. Mao emptied the vase and twirled the vase on its edge. He watched it twirl and he smiled at the woman, that's looks were enhanced by the alcohol. He waved his hand at Sora, "I'm in no danger here. This nation has treated my family with kindness and if it were any different, than I would've known by now." Mao said without a care. His eyes looked her down and he smiled, 'She does have pretty hair." He looked over to his left and asked the girl to bring another vase of the delicious alcoholic beverage that had nulled the memories and brought a feeling of ecstasy to his body.

Her eyes followed the the empty vase. Looking she saw him smiling at her. Shying away a bit, she pulled back from him. "Well this nation isn't the same as you once knew." Sora couldn't help but blush a little at the way he was looking at her. "Could you please stop. It's kind of rude to be looking at someone like that." She brushed some hair behind her ear. Hearing him ask for more sake her shyness went away and her medical side kicked in. Sora stared at him. "No. Don't get him any more." Her eyes never left Mao's. "If you do I'll make sure you regret it." Her eyes flickered from her to Mao. "And form what I can see he will too, if not now then later."

The denial of his sake brought a rush of unexpected anger to his face. His face turned to stone with a malicious aura revolving his person. Mao's hand rose slowly to the vase, grabbing it in his right hand, and placing it to his left. "More of your delicious peach sake. Please." His eyes connected with Sora's. His blood was boiling and he was beginning to lose control of the chakra building inside him. His bandanna had loosened as the heat built up around his body. His red hair slowly began falling over the front of his face and the side. He didn't quite notice until his bandanna hit the table and his bangs were hanging over his face.

His mind was racing with what the consequences would be if everyone saw his hair. He passed through all of them and decided not to care. He was already rogue. He was in another nation that was on thin ice. He didn't care if he destroyed the restaurant in his fury.
'Actually... I would feel... bad. That ramen... was delicious.' he thought to himself. The girl didn't know what to do. She saw the man's hair and involuntarily gasped at the sight. But she was frozen still from the threats the Leaf shinobi made.

Sora refused to remove eyes contact from Mao. She believed if you were the first on e to look away the other was dominant. A grow started to emit from her throat. "NO." She could feel his chakra levels fluctuating and then starting to build. She shot up from her seat, pushed the waitress behind her, pulling out a kunai. Sora may not have really cared much for the villagers but she wasn't just going to let them get hurt if she ocld stop it. She felt adrenaline start to pump through her body. That was what made her forget she still has not fully recovered from yesterday. Seeing seeing his bandanna slip she got a little excited. I wonder what color his hair is. Sora gasped at the bright red hair. Her kunai dropped out of her hand. "You.." She had to rack her brain for the name. "You are the late Mizukage's grandson." She cursed at her self. How did she not recognize that name?! In a flash she did a few hands signs. Shadow Possession Jutsu.

Mao smiled and looked over at Sora when she jumped out of her seat and realized his identity. He reached his hand out and released his delayed justsu. Water Prison. His mouth opened and water gushed out wrapping around Sora as her shadow crept out to Mao. In a sphere of water, Sora was trapped inside and Mao held his arm inside controlling the justsu. He allowed her to breath and speak, yet nothing else. The pressure in the sphere intensified and he looked into her eyes. "I don't... intend on killing you, Sora. I... wanted none of this. If... I release you, will you come with... me?" Mao shook his head as he was losing his ability to function properly. He stared her down, waiting for her response.

Sora inwardly cursed. How did she not notice the delayed jutsu? She attempted to get out. She physically cringed when the pressure increased. It was at that moment she could feel her chakra level was low. I shouldn't have tried the shadow possession. I would have been better off with taijutsu. Sora tried to look at him as he talked but the pressure wasn't helping. Being a medic on squads, she realized, was making her weak. Always being protected. "What is it then? Where do you want me to go?" She hissed. "That visiting the grave yard part was probably crap."

The resturant was still and the other customers were in their seats. No one moved but the whispers were travelling among them. Mao shook his head in embarresment. ' I can't believe myself. No more alcohol...' He looked at Sora and frowned slightly, " Just follow me. That's all I ask. I'll release you under that condition. " Mao said softly. He began walking away and his hand pulled away from the sphere of water as it fell to the ground, soaking the floor of the restaurant. Mao reached into his bag and tossed a bag of ryu on the counter as he exited the restaurant. He looked around and immediately wrapped his hair in the bandanna before forgetting. The commotion inside roared to life as the villagers called for help. He leapt up to the rooftop and padded away to the west.

Jumping from rooftop to rooftop, Mao looked back to make sure no one other than Sora was folllowing him. Though, he didn't see Sora behind him. He shrugged and continued until he found the western wall of Konoha. He made a few signs and walked through the earth and emerged out the other side. He walked down the isolated path hidden under the treetops and waited for Sora to arrive.

Sora fell to the ground when the jutsu got released. Taking her time sitting up, her wet hair started to stick to her face and body. The girl that was serving them ran up to her. "Are you alright?" She asked and put a hand on Sora's shoulder. Sora ignored her and was trying to rack her brain around what just happen. Hearing the girl ask again, Sora turned to look at her. "Shut up." Her voice was soft. The girl leaned in closer to her. "What did you say?" The commotion going around was starting to aggravate Sora. "I said, EVERYONE SHUT UP!" She yelled. The people inside instantly shut up and turned to look at the leaf anbu. By the time Sora stood up two jonin were we in the tea house. One of them was an Araii. The Araii walked over to his heiress. "Lady Sora are you alright?" The jonin held his hand out to her and Sora took it and stood up. "I'm fine Shio. You and..him," She nodded her head to the other jonin. "Should clean this up." The Araii, Shio, nodded and walked over to the other jonin and whispered something to him. "Alright everyone, everything is fine. Please come to us if you have any concerns." Shio called out. A line of villagers started to form in front of him. The other jonin started to help clean up.

Finally being able to get out of there, Sora quickly put her wet hair in a braid down her back, and leaped on top of the building. She closed her eyes and tried to concentrate to use whatever tracking skills she had. Once finding what she was looking for she headed off in the direction she believed Mao went. Eventually she his the western wall of Konoha. Focusing chakra to her feet, Sora walked up and over the wall, not wanted anyone to know she was going over it. Landed back on the other side she faltered a bit. I hope I don't need to fight him, or anyone again today. Sighing she looked around. "Mao!" She called out. "I'm here. What do you want?"

A breeez blew soft and subtle through the oaks of the forest. The leaves played on the wind's soothing breath. A mist followed the wind's path and embers shimmered like glistening rubies. A form took under the fiery display and it spoke in a smooth voice. "I'm glad you came. I would've been sad to have to harm such a beautiful kunoichi." Mao's long flowing crimson hair was free now. His black coat shimmering in the mists moisture and the bold red streaks coming to life. His celadon eyes were casting a soft glance on her features. Though his face was stoic and stern. "By the way, Sora Araii. I did not lie about visiting a grave. You'll see." He said as he began walking deeper into the forests surrounding Konoha.

Seeing the mist coming, Sora pulled out a kunai and took a defensive stance. What kind of jutsu is this? Seeing Mao start to take form, her body relaxed. Putting the kunai away Sora scoffed at his comment. "I am not so easily harmed. You just...you just caught me off guard before." Her voice lowered at the last part. Looking over him she only just now noticed his coat and how nice he looked. And here she was still wearing her anbu uniform that she has been in for, wow I have been wearing this out for a few days now. Her eyes widened. She probably smelt. Even at that thought her eyes roamed to his fiery red hair. It was so different then what she was used to seeing. It's also very beautiful. Sora mentally slapped herself for that thought. She did not come here to take in his looks, though she did notice him looking at hers. She couldn't help but smirk. Hearing him talk, her face returned to it's neutral self. "Well I don't know any graves that are out here. All of those who fought in the war were buried in Konoha." Still though she followed him. Curiosity killed that cat. She's just hoping this wouldn't get her killed.
