His eyes were closed, engaged in trying to still his mind when a voice broke through the solitude. Rhys cracked one eye open, surprised to see that it was Nik who had situated himself beside him. And to offer water no less. Rhys was suddenly very aware of his dry throat, taking the bottle with a mumbled thanks. After a moment of hesitation he brought the water to his lips and drank.
There was no sting of taint.
No stench of sulfur.
It was just water and for some reason, that too surprised him.

Rhys's gaze traveled back to the blonde, arching an eyebrow at what he was eating. There was a vague stench of old herbs and some kind of died meat that mingled with an almost rancid after scent. Rhys crinkled his nose, looking from the meat to the man. "Yeah, that doesn't look like....something edible."
A moment of silence followed his comment, causing Rhys to look back over at the man. There seemed to be a second's worth of indecision before deciding what he wanted to say was worth saying.
If he were honest with himself, Rhys had never truly expected an apology for the incident. It wasn't like Nik had really done anything wrong except maybe poke fun at a sore spot, but didn't everyone do that now and again? It was apparently human nature to make fun of others.

So maybe he wasn't that much of an asshole.

"There's nothing to apologize for." Rhys lifted his shoulders in a shrug, turning back to glance at the man beside him only to see that he had drifted off to sleep faster than he had. A soft chuckle left him as he placed the now empty water bottle between the two.
Rhys parted his lips to say something, but decided against it and instead leaned his head back against the brick and drifted to sleep....

"Why did you do it!?"

His voice cracked in the air like a whip, slashing through his very soul.

"Damn you Rhys if you had just trusted me--"

"She's dead, Nick."

Rhys raised his eyes to look at the man across the table. There was no emotion in his face, just a dead vacancy and his partner flinched at the sight. Silver cuffs glinted around his pale skin, symbolizing the gravity of his actions. The older man groaned, leaning forward in his chair to look at the man whom he had once trusted with his life. A frown marred his lips, honey brown eyes looking at him with so many emotions that it made Rhys squirm in the uncomfortably hard chair.

"You can't take the law into your hands that's not how--"

"She needed justice!"

"Is that what you call that? Justice!? Because from where I sit that looks an awfully lot like vengeance."

The metal chair screeched against the tile, signaling that the detective had risen from his seat though Rhys refused to look at him.

"Who are you to deliver judgement upon others, Rhys? You're not God. Don't act like it."

He woke up with a start, the memory abruptly cut off by the sound of something large hitting wood and metal. A string of curses unraveled from his tongue, like yarn unfurling, as something slammed into the front door. The shelves shook from the weight of the impact and then a loud crack resounded through the room as one shelf completely split in half. And in the midst of the choas a flood came pouring from the hole--a flood of nightmares, covering the ground in three-foot leaps as they dashed towards the group nestled inside.

They all thought they would be safe there for the night.

They all thought wrong.

Rhys's heart hammered in his head, his only thought in that moment was escape. He whirled towards the woman they had brought in, grabbing her arm and pulling her out of the way of a Hellhound's claws.

"What the shit!?"

He was still half asleep. Rhys fumbled for his side arm, shooting it off at a Revenant that dragged it's way towards them. Azure eyes frantically looked for a way out before spotting the gas canister still sitting by the door. The only way they were going to make it out of this alive was if they made a swift get away. He didn't know what that thing was that was breaking in through the door and he really didn't have time to think about it. He turned towards the woman who claimed to have seen this all coming, his expression borderline shock and...something else that didn't quite match with his emotions.

"Grab whatever you can!"

With that he sprinted towards the door, dropping into a slide as a giant fucking axe swung across the space where his head you to be. "WHAT THE SHIT!?" He screeched again, his voice raising an octave as he scrambled for the gas canister. A hound stalked towards him curling up its gums to reveal yellow stained teeth before letting out a low rumbling growl. Rhys stood slowly, the gas clutched in one hand and his gun in the other as it started to circle. The beast crouched low, preparing to pounce, and then a gust of air flew past him. Rhys ducked even though he didn't have to and the ground under him shoot as the axe slammed into the linoleum inches from his shoes. Rhys swallowed thickly, his eyes tracking up the large weapon and to its owner.

"Jesus Christ, what do they feed you?"

The hulking mass let out a guttural noise and Rhys darted to the side just as the hell hound launched. He felt a searing pain in his arm but ignored it, too pumped on adrenaline to bother with a scratch.
Rhys was running again, heading right towards the back door. He grabbed the prophet, praying she didn't mind that he was practically manhandling her as another beast lunged towards the both of them.

"Is your bike still outside?" He called over the chaos, letting go of Luiza as they neared the door.

Rhys was reaching for the handle, escape a hairs length away when a being he had never seen before stepped in front of them. It wore a suit and it's head was made of bone with antlers protruding from it's head. It made no noise as it swiped at him with elongated claws. Rhys fell backwards in an attempt to avoid the blow, slamming ungracefully into the ground.

Hell Comes Knocking
Ezra:
Hell Comes Knocking

Ezra had decided to take a nap after getting the Tarot reading. It has been way too accurate for his tastes, but if he really could gain the power the cards promised...no matter, it wasn't like he'd change his habits. Maybe be a bit quicker to take risks. Or keep the Tarot dude nearby for more readings.

He awoke to loud noise and Rhys yelling. Grabbing his crowbar, Ezra saw that something had smashed down the door right near where he slept. He heard a familiar yowling and groaned. Hellhounds. The things that had inadvertently given him his powers and tracked him on more than one occassion.

"Shit."

Moving back from the front entrance where the thing with the axe was still trying to get it Ezra started moving back to try to find a window to escape out of. But they were boarded up. Boarded up by somebody with no idea how to do it (stud finders are useful), but still not worth trying to break through. He'd already wasted enough time, time to figure out whether to retreat or make a stand.

Time to put others in between him and the danger.

Ezra started shoving shelves over to form a crude barricade. Somebody had taken parts off them to nail on the windows, so there wasn't as much. Still it was enough to slow down the Hell Hound charging him. Ezra managed to land a solid blow on it and send it sliding back, but he'd need help. The hellish hound scrabbled on the tiled floors, steam rising from it mouth and nostrils and its burning body casting the area in infernal light.

"Help!"

Most of the survivors were sleeping and the dim fire in the room brought back memories of cold winter nights. Alaska now sat with her back to the front door, feeling drowsy and ready for a good night's sleep..

HELL COMES KNOCKING

CRACK So much for barricading the door! Alaska now was on her feet, revolver ready to shoot as the door came crashing down. The creature that came inside was like nothing she'd ever seen before. Almost everyone was up now as more creatures bombarded the survivors through the back door. The calming peaceful silence was now replaced by howls and screeches and fear.

The tall bastard now destroyed the whole door allowing more monsters to come in. It moved slowly but steadily swinging the gigantic axe it was wheelding back and forth, erasing whoever was in it's way.
''What do they feed you!'' Rhys's remark came so sincere that it earned a chuckle from the young hunter who -having realized that the bullets don't really work on it after shooting at it a couple of times- emptied her gun on the revenants that came running at her. "GET OUT OF HERE'' Her voice came ringing through the noise and chaos as she shouted at the others. The old family crossbow now lay next to Adisa at the far corner of the room. More revenants collapsed as her holly water washed hunting knife found it's way through their throats. Alaska finally reached for her crossbow and aimed at the eyes of the creature.

One of the revenants she shot, a yellow eyed little shit with long matted hair dug his nails in her ankle ruining the hunter's shot, to which she knocked him out with the back of her crossbow hitting with all her strength. Her eyes roamed around looking for help till they settled on the afflicted guy she called an asshole before. Boy did she wish she was more polite.

''Niklas!'' Her light brown eyes locked with his dark blue ones, a hell hound now standing between the two ''help me get closer to that son of a bitch? Adrenalin now pumped in her veins letting her forget about the bleeding leg. Eyes bright with excitement, her previously tightly tied pony tail now turned to messy locks reaching to her back, her hands holding the crossbow as close as she could, Alaska now ran towards the 8 feet tall creature, dodging hits from revenants with a sly smile on her face.

The voice when things had settled down was incredibly loud to Luiza’s sensitive ears, though she imagined the thunderous roar was more so from her fried brain, and didn't correlate much to the person's actual volume. They were soothing words, however, and she hoped they weren’t coming from a demon looking to coax another victim into submission. Luiza dared not open her eyes, both out of fear and the wild spots she knew would dance across her vision, giving her even more of a splitting headache. She wasn’t particularly certain of where she was, and vaguely noticed that she wasn’t aware of her body. Perhaps that was a blessing though, as visions like the one she’d just had often left her physically immobile, pain rippling through her body.
Things… are coming….” She managed to speak, voice trembling. “Danger. I saw...
As more voices started to echo into her brain, words twisting before becoming garbled, Luiza lost consciousness, praying to the God she didn’t believe in for a swift death if it were to come.
***
When Luiza awoke, she found herself wrapped in a blanket, dark eyes surveying the station that these other people (and her) were now holed up in. Several lay scattered around, chests rising and falling slowly as they slumbered, a mere metronome that Luiza decided was a good way to count time. She was not inclined to move from her spot on the floor, instead fiddling with her backpack that had conveniently ended up near her, brought in by one of these people presumably. Though she was but a speck on their radar, Luiza felt her face flush with embarrassment as she thought of how she even got in here. Carried or dragged like some damsel in distress, presumably.
Weak. The hunter Luiza snapped at her with a viciousness only matched by that of a demon.
Piss off. You know I didn’t choose this.” Luiza whispered quietly.
You’re stronger than this. We’re marked.
She pondered the other voice’s sentiment carefully, tilting her head sideways in response.
I’m pretty sure it makes it worse.
The other voice hissed, a cruel, angry sound that mentally set Luiza on edge. It was her after all, but the ferality of it baffled her. Had she been like that before? Had she really changed this much? Half the time it wasn’t like she was speaking to herself anymore and felt more like having casual conversation with a demon. Luiza shuddered at the thought. No, she wasn’t a demon, and never had been.
It was quiet after that, which she appreciated. Unzipping her bag, Luiza procured a small notebook. While originally a pen and paper would have never been a part of Luiza’s necessities, now that her brain was scattered between two feuding personalities and usually violent and erratic visions it had become a staple part of her collection. Often her brain struggled to comprehend visions, and as a result she’d scribble vague notes and crude drawings to help her better understand. She remembered when she’d first lost her title as a hunter, holed herself up in a room and scratched the visions of a half-mad hunter into the walls until her fingers bled. That had been horrifying, and after sleeping for days, that’s when she started to hear the other voice. At first it had been amicable, the two often agreeing and sharing opinions on much of what she had been going on though. As months dragged on though, the two began to argue more, the real Luiza becoming more timid and fearful as the voice in her head became more aggressive and angry. Lost in her own thoughts again and reminiscing, Luiza looked down at her notebook where she ha absentmindedly sketched out a gas station, angry entities streaming in from all sides.
Shit.” She said loudly, though her voice was still soft. In her musings she’d forgotten an important part of being a prophet; communicating what she’d seen, not just that there was something. If only she weren’t so weak post-vision. She’d have been able to communicate to them all in great detail of the danger that lay ahead. Shuddering, she slowly got up, hoping she could wake the nearest person and warn them properly before something happened.
Unfortunately, a resonating crack! pierced the quiet of the gas station before she could make her way over to the sleeping Rhys, who instantly woke to the noise, as Luiza would assume everyone else was now doing. As a string of curses tumbled from his tongue, she momentarily froze in shock as she saw the darkness that now shoved its way through the once-fortified station doors.
Yes, stand there like an idiot. The voice sneered. Mouth agape, she felt blessed indeed as the man wrenched her out of the way of a hellhound’s claws. That set Luiza into motion, as she drew a knife from her boot, brandishing it, though against the hordes of monsters that now surrounded them it now seemed as useful as wielding a stick.
Grab whatever you can!” He yelled, and Luiza nodded, making a beeline for her backpack. Perhaps more sentimental than necessary, it still held survival items and of course her precious notebook. Slinging it over her shoulder she dashed for the door, feeling a surge of glee as her body responded, moving more swiftly than any normal human could hope. For but an instant, she felt like her old self again. That didn’t last long though, and she skidded to a near the doors as one gigantic axe came crashing down, Rhys nearby. Again feeling useless and unusually fearful, she let him grab her again and they made a break for the door.
As she was about to tell him her bike would be in order for an escape, a new monster made its appearance, and Luiza stared at it with blank eyes. This she had not seen. Rhys had let go of her quickly, moving as the beast swiped at him.
Baring her teeth, despite knowing her knife would do little to the monster but irritate and enrage it, Luiza leapt forward from where she’d stood, driving her knife deep into the ribcage of the being, who reacted not out of pain, but fury. It turned towards her, and suddenly all the bravado she’d been feeling melted away. Trying to ignore the spots that now flickered in her sight, she tried to blink away the forthcoming vision. To her surprise, the spots began to fade. While under no impression that she’d been in control of that, she was grateful nonetheless.
Get up.” She urged Rhys panic creeping into her voice, unsure of her own ability to fight this thing alone as she feigned attacks on the clearly annoyed creature. While once lethal, Luiza felt now she was of little use more than a distraction or annoyance, and it pained her to be so. She hoped the others she noticed in her peripherals could survive, and maybe everyone could escape.

At some point during the night, Nik was fairly certain, as his dark blue eyes had flickered open for a small space of time, that Rhys was laying on his shoulder rather ungracefully. He hadn't bothered to move him, the weight was pleasant and he was actually positive Rhys would try to skin him if tried to wake him up. But while drifting through his deluge of memories formed into dreams, formed into nightmares by the sheer fact that they centered around his brown and blue ghost, suddenly that weight was abruptly removed.

Then there was a loud scraping, slamming sound, like someone had stuck a pair of scissors in a blender, except, louder, heavier, and more jarring. Nik shot up, still groggy, but saw the scene playing out around the survivors in horror. A new type of horror, or perhaps an older one, one that he had feared more than he really feared anything else in this world. He was staring to care, and he was not going to let this happen.

This horror was for them.

As this was an army, a roaring set of toothed, snarled, and gnarled rapids made of bodies, blood, bites, death, and darkness, someone must have really wanted them fucking dead. They must have shit in the dark lord's coffee or something, because this was intense, and pretty overkill as far as the part-time devil was concerned. All for a group of what, thirteen-or-so survivors holed up in an east bumfuck gas station?

It felt deliberate, and because of this, he felt even more pissed off about it.

Nik didn't waste one blasted second, and completely pushed everything else out of his mind and even his vision. Focusing only on the tasks in front of him, as they laid themselves out, and then five steps beyond that so he wouldn't get himself or anyone else killed. He had heard Rhys' remarks about the giant putrid mammoth and he wouldn't smiled but now was not the time. Nik deftly snaked his knives from their safe place on his belt and held one in each hand, ready to not just attack, but to cut a line through to the exit.

There was one major obstacle to them getting the fuck out of dodge here, and it was that giant behemoth wielding an axe, who looked like he had a condom for a head.

He wasn't interested in wasting time, nor playing grab-ass with hellhounds or Revenants, but as they rushed, he took them to task. As a putrefied, frothing Revenant snarled, lurching towards him, so did a hellhound with spittle and sinew dripping from its diseased maw. Nik swung out one blade up and under the Revenant's head and took a sharp jab to clip as far into the back of its head as possible, in attempt to sever its nervous system. The other blade was up in the writhing dogbeast's mouth as fast as it flung itself at him in tandem, and he drew a disgusting line of torn muscle and tissue clear out from the side of it's face, it's mouth split open as it gurgled on its own blood.

Nik kicked back the Revenant who was still stuck on his blade and used the speed that he was graced with to keep hacking, and keep slamming through and down anything in his wake. Blackened ooze and blood coated up his arms, and a swatch of the stuff had mired down his cheek. Even if this battle would keep titrating him closer and closer to his affliction, even if using his own assortment of tainted blessings would burn through him into nothing, he wasn't going to let people like James, Alaska, Rhys and the others just die.

He wasn't.

Someone called his name to snap him free of his onslaught against the bastards that had ruined his beauty sleep—Alaska.

''Niklas!' Help me get closer to that son of a bitch?"
"Let's dance, partner,"
he said with a cheeky grin, before rushing the hellhound between the two of them. He flung his blade deep into its side and slammed it with a deafening kick, the great-dane-from-hell bleating out a snarling howl, sending more his way. He would continue to carve a path for her, however...

"You're going to become a fuckin' pancake if you get too close, we have to disarm that inbred piece of shit!"

HELL COMES KNOCKING: TERRA

As Terra was rising from his rest, he heard a quite peculiar sound from outside the gas station. He wondered where the sound was from and decided to inspect the premises.

As he went outside to look, he saw a man who has been cornered by a hellhound which made Terra take initiative and use his holy light. He began charging the light and when it was fully charged, he shouted, "Light!", and summoned a massive beam of light which made the hellhound go blind and stunned so that the man could have enough time to kill them all. Terra went closer to the man, inspecting him if he has any wounds or burns from the hellhounds.

He saw a bite mark on his left arm, dark and bloody. He hold the mark and made a fist with his other hand that touched his heart and said, "Light, give him strength.", after he said that his hand was glowing a bright red and the burns and wounds were now gone from his body. He recognized his face, it was Ezra. Ezra thanked Terra but their reunion was cut off quickly due to more hellhounds.

There were more hellhounds that were coming but Terra had one little trick up his sleeve. "Know your place!", he said as he raised his sword and said again, "The fires will burn!". When he said that, the hellhounds were stopping and felt something was burning inside them alive. They all panicked but they became unconcious and started to not move anymore. To make sure that they won't move again, Terra carved out their hearts and smashed it with a rock.

HELL COMES KNOCKING

"You're going to become a fuckin' pancake if you get too close, we have to disarm that inbred piece of shit!" Nik's statement made her stop in her tracks, dodging a swing from the giant axe and shooting a hellhound in the mouth after reloading her gun. Given that the bows were scarce, Alaska hung her crossbow over her shoulder savıng ıt for the jaggernaut and went on to literally disarm an old revenant with her knife. ''How exactly do you suggest we do that mate? it's not like we can just snatch it from him!" her voice now more serious as more and more monster got inside of the room. too crowded Heart beats surpassed all other sounds, her own heart beats as one of the hell hounds came darting at her, get out of here! I can't breathe Being claustrophobic in a crowded room filled with thirsty revenants made her feel as if her head was about to explode. Her eyes looked frantically from one face to another trying to look for an open spot to take a breath, but she was met with more revenants, more hellhounds, and vampires who were after the smell of fresh blood.

Error....Her mind went completely blank for a split second resulting in a vampire tackling her to the ground. The shock from hitting the cold asphalt brought the young hunter back to her senses. ''this one looks delicious'' the vampire hissed teasingly as he grabbed a handful of her hair exposing her neck before licking it slowly. one of her arms was held above her head by the vampire's free hand, her own hand still tightened around the revolver trying to get free and shoot. Her knife lay next to her on the ground as her free hand was now at the vampires' chest trying to push him off. ''I'll kill you, you dickhead'' she promised, to which the vampire chuckled FUCK PHOBIAS the thought was running nonstop in her head. Pancake? She wouldn't live long to become a pancake, she thought to herself still trying to aim at the vampire.

He backed up as fast as humanly possible, his boots skidding across the tile as he pushed himself across the floor. The Omnibus rose, a towering form that imposed a sort of threatening damnnation that chilled him to the core. His eyes flickered to the glint of a long blade watching as it swung down towards his legs. His heart jumped into his throat and he spread his legs at just the right second watching as the blade plunged into the tile near his crotch. Rhys blinked, looking up at the monstrous thing in the suit and then looked back down at the knife between his legs.

"You uh...had a bad experience or something?"

"Get up!" Her words reminded him that now was not the time for lame wisecracks. He cleared his throat, pulling himself away and up off the floor. Rhys dropped back into a fighting stance, gripping his gun tightly as he glared at the thing blocking their path. If they couldn't get out, no one here would survive and that was not an option. Rhys half turned, searching the crowd for Luci but the thing lunged at him in his distraction.

Rhys jumped back again, slamming into something that grabbed onto him from behind. He turned in horror as a Revenant went to plunge it's teeth into his shoulder. His palm shot out, stopping the bite before it happened. The center of his palm began to warm up, a blue glow traveled the length of his tattoos and the Revenant let out a shriek as cleansing fire burned the monstrosity from the inside out. It hit the floor like a heavy sack and didn't move, the eyes burned out of their sockets and mouth open in an eternal scream. Rhys turned away.

Putting his focus back on the omnibus, the corner of his mouth twitched into a smile. "Alright you creepy slenderman lookin' fuck. Let's do this."

Rhys shared a look with Luiza before he raised his gun again. "I'll keep it focused on me while you kill it." The plan was reasonable enough, he hoped, and she looked small enough to get in quick to deliver a leathal blow. He wasn't sure how these things died, but he was confident they could figure it out.

[/div][div class=speaks]
''How exactly do you suggest we do that mate? it's not like we can just snatch it from him!" Alaska flung the question back at him, while Nik was busy playing a very elaborate game of "get the fuck away from me" with a group of hellhounds who were making it impossible to get to her. For every step forward he'd take, another joined their disfigured brethren, sifting soot and flame into the air as they growled in pitched whines, and snapped on serrated jaws. Their drool pooled on the floor, they were itching to lunge.

"If he has eye holes on that dick helmet, we can blind the giant demonic Big Gulp, or maybe go for his knees or some shit!"

Nik didn't have any time for hellscape canine whack-a-mole, and instead pulled a lick of shadow from the ground below them, where their flames were casting their form on the sullied floor. He split the spiraling shade up into the air like a lattice with his left hand, his blade guiding the line, and tied a few of them together with their own castoff. The right hand wielded his other blade with the precision of a surgeon to gut at the free hellhound he hadn't managed to affix. He was able to cleave it away, but it was left with its head hanging supine, bowed to the floor, still racing at him.

Albeit, at a lopsided gallop.

"You better stop chasing me or you're going to get sent back to hell in a doggy bag, you fuck." A Revenant with, greasy, infested hair blocked his way, but he needed to get to the giant death-metal-Gerber-baby, and fast. Or no one was getting the hell out of this place. It swung its axe and bellowed out a visceral, warbled, man-child of a cry. It had to go down. Or at least it had to become decidedly less threatening. With a raised brow, the blond lifted his open palm into the air, and with a tight twist and a jerk, the Revenant before him started to crumble in on itself. Closing his fist, the creature more or less popped, its body seeping fluids, and coating the floor with its insides, tissues, and organs.

"What the fuck? Did they send the goddamn hell version of S.W.A.T?"

Nik searched the scene for Alaska, and turned to see a Vampire trying to prey on her as she struggled to get off a shot, her blade laying on the floor. Now, Nik, had he been adept at throwing literally anything, would try to pull off an awesome move like slide and throw the blade. Or, throw his own blade. Or, throw both blades. Or, throw the hellhound that was now running after him, sideways, jagging a line across the area in an attempt to just nip him on the ankle, or something.

But the thing here was that, once the weapon left his body, he had no ability to align a shot in any way, shape, or form. He couldn't shoot a gun to save his life, it was just a skill he had trouble with. Trouble being the understatement of the century.

But, he attempted it.

"Hey, Fang-Banger, get the fuck off my State!" he bellowed as he flung his dagger at the Vampire. Now, one of several things could happen, but one one of them actually did. He could've hit Alaska, obviously. Somebody else could get killed. It could've gone flying off into the great beyond, never to be seen again. It could've hit its intended target and broken the Vampire's spell.

Or, the one that actually happened:

It managed to hit the wayward, lopsided hellhound who bashed into the one of the only still-standing shelving units that had already seen better days. Barreling through it, the hellhound left soot, flame, and ash in a runway streak on the floor. That decrepit shelving unit then tipped forward, and smashed into the ground, sending a plank flying into the air, to clock the Vampire on the side of the head, wrenching it away from her neck. She now had the opening she needed to pull away, thanks to his dumb, dumb, dumb fucking luck.

He was speechless, and also...

Down one blade.

HELL COMES KNOCKING: TERRA

As Terra was smashing the hearts of the hellhounds, he saw a man that had a hellhound latched on to his left arm. He ran towards the man and decapitated it in one clean slice with the sword. It's head just fell to the ground and its body was no longer moving, it was only twitching. He helped the man by healing him of his bite mark. He felt his heart growing weaker as he tried to heal him but he did not want to leave them behind. Ezra was helping in aiding the man but before Terra could even realize, the man killed a hellhound with a knife to its head. He thanked the man and the man said, "
" Thanks to you. James' the name.", and proceeded to stand up on his own two feet.

There were more hellhounds coming their way but Terra could not use his light powers anymore since he felt his consciousness fading away but he used it anyway. "Light! Burn them alive!", he said with all his remaining strength. The hellhounds were now motionless but now, his brain was now light-headed and his vision was becoming blurry. He then, suddenly fell to the ground and slept.

James
Artificial Angel Artificial Angel Gravitational Force Gravitational Force

Somewhen that evening he fell into slumber not too far away from the door, back against the wall with the windows they had barricaded before. He woke up to a faint sound outside, but before he paid attention to that he felt his neck aching due to the uncomfortable positioning. He groaned and then noticed the sound that presumably woke him up, a faint grinding sound like something was dragged over the asphalt out there. James left hand went for his pistol as he tried to listen closer, but the grinding stopped and he wasn't sure if he heard footsteps or not. After all, he just woke up and didn't really know what to make of this. As something crushed through the door and the shelf behind it he immediately jumped to his feet, taking his machete out the backpack once more in the same motion.

Something broke his way through their barricades and James was right next to the opening as Hellhounds, Revenants and other demonic beasts rushed into the gas station. He shot a revenant running by through the kneecap causing it to stumble and to slow down. Then he saw one of the disfigured hounds of hell leaping towards him. He swiftly stepped to the right cutting it's side open with his blade. Faint crimson flames flickered out the wound like they did all around the abominations body. It turned towards James again, barking in bloodcurdling way which could only be described as a mixture of a scream of hate and anger and ... well the mad bark of a wild dog. He released to shots before it tried rushing him again, the second one hitting its head. "Bad dog," James whispered to himself smiling, ignoring how crazy smiling in that situation was. Nik left an impression and James kinda appreciated it.

He heard a scream for help somewhere to the right. He looked over seeing a hellound getting up again and the man who was fighting it and dropped the beast with one bullet to the head. He wasn't the best shot, but sometimes he got lucky. And he had to use his bullets sparse anyway. Looking back he ignored the giant thing that was inside with his huge fucking axe and focused on the enemies nearby still pouring in through what had been the door and a part of the front wall. With quick steps he closed in on two hellhounds that wanted to attack somebody else further in the room. He chopped the head of the first swiftly and shot the other one. One, two, three FUCK I'M WASTING MY BULLETS! It dropped dead, for now at least, as the third shot hit its head.

He heard a fiery low roar and turned in the last moment as one of the damned dogs pounced into him. He yanked up his left arm in protection and almost got knocked down by it as it bit him forcing its teeth deep into his arm. He felt its hellish flames burning him and started to rapidly swing his machete into the hounds side over and over again. It started clawing his body and he swung his arm wildly but it didn't let loose. Then a man stepped up, cutting the head right off with a sword. With wide eyes James looked at him as the man calmly held his hand out towards the blackened mess of a wound on James had on his arm. His instict told him to pull away but something calmed him down and the mans hand had white light shining out of it. The pain in his arm was gone and only blood and his torn clothes remembered of the injury that had been there merely a second earlier.

He was baffled but that ended instantly as a another accursed hellhound rushed towards them. A prompt step forward and the bloody thing had a blade in its head before it could open its jaw. James had to get out a few quick words breathing heavily before he'd continue fighting. "Thanks to you. James' the name." He gave the man an honest smile, before facing the evil again.

——————————————————
The little white witch was at a loss. She hadn’t a power source in sight, no lights could be spared here to her needs.
She was essentially defenseless. However, the sun was slowly sinking back down the horizon, and the moon, that ball of rock and illumination suspended in the sky, was full, and bright ahead.

In a few moments time, it began.

The tingling always began in her toes, then slowly moved upwards, until it reached her head, and her cresent moon marking began to glow under her skin, like a shimmering golden tattoo. Her eyes were closed, taking in the pleasant sensation, but in a moments time, they snapped open, awake, renewed.

It was her time.

She launched forward, Snow white hair whipping in the frigid wind as she sprinted indoors. She moved with a dancer-like grace through the snow, her bare feet hardly leaving prints as she ran.

Once inside she fried revenants like they were chicken, the smell more overwhelming than the airport; the burns twice as severe. She had a look in her eyes, one which was equal parts unsettling as it was unhinged. She barreled into creature after creature, leaving nothing but death and the smell of charred flesh in her wake. She was a deadly force to be reckoned with; the question was who should be afraid?

The revenants and hellhounds...or the survivors?

Her eyes caught on Rhys, and for a moment, they softened ever so slightly. The distraction however, was one she couldn’t afford, as moments later she was thrown to the tile floor. The creature hovered over her, snarling like the rabid beast it was. The hellhound’s teeth were mere inches from her nose, its hot, rank breath beating down on her, claws digging in to her arm, which was trapped beneath its left paw.

HELL COMES KNOCKING

Luci

“W-what in the heavens i-is that!?” Luci stutters, as he spots at the abomination. He then spots Rhys, with a woman he’s never seen before. It all happened in a moment, Rhys almost had his.. uh... asset chopped off. Luci cringed at the deed. Alas, he soon breaths a sigh of relief when he stands back up, ready to counter-attack. Luci already knew what to do. He swiftly ran over to Rhys, then initiated combat with the beast. Is..err, what Luci would have liked to say. Due to the imminent danger Rhys and the mystery woman where in, he ran a bit too fast. Right before he reached them, he tripped on something, and slid in facefirst. “Ow.. my face..” Luci grumbles out as he stands up. Slightly teary-eyed, Luci gets into a poorly fashioned boxing stance. “I’ll keep it focursed on me while you kill it.” Rhys commanded. “R-Right!” Luci shouts. Luci recklessly charges the large demon. This charge was met with a crude swing from the beast, which Luci barely doged. Luci then punch’s the executioner right on the chest. A loud crack ran through the gas station. “AHHHH!” Luci shouts in pain. He could tell that he broke one of his knuckles. Lucid eyes begin to water, as the beast brings the knife down on him. Luci closes his eyes, and braces “I just...wanted to help people..”. Luci whispers.

...

Nothing happened. Luci opens his eyes to find that the beasts arm was being held down by Inky black tentacles. “W-What in the w-world?” He says as he stumbles backwards, back to Rhys.

"R-Right!"

Rhys' eyes locked onto the much younger boy's frame, his eyes widening slightly as the teen charged past him and towards the demon. His lips parted, his hand reaching out towards him, but there was no sound he could make, nothing that would stop the overeager youth in his tracks. He clenched his jaw, watching as Luci's fist connected with the harden chest of the omnibus. The young afflicted yelped, the sound reminding him almost of a wounded animal and Rhys' protective instincts kicked into overdrive.

The knife glinted off the soft glow of dawn coming in from the boarded up windows, the sinister grin that spread across that skeleton face caused a burning anger to flare through his veins. He needed to stop this. He had to do something. Rhys raised his gun as the knife came down. The blade fell short, shadow wrapped around it's arms and keeping it from striking it's wielder. Rhys pulled the trigger just as the demon looked up. It moved it's head faster than he could track, dodging the bullet and allowing it to lodge into the brick wall behind it. The somewhat divine stood there stunned, the creaking of bone echoed in his ears just before the demon did something. A nod, a chuckle, he couldn't describe what it was. Only that it caused silence to blanket the air, crawling across his skin like a slow acting poison.

It seeped into his blood and paralyzed his brain, his pupils became dilated and there was a tremor in his hands. The void that encased him was a cruelty, for in that void of silence the only thing he could hear was the pounding of his heart. Panic swelled in his gut, the creature tried to snap itself from the confines of the inky blackness that had held him. It moved with inhuman speed, turning it's head back towards Luci and going in for the kill.

Whatever magic this demon had cast, he was not going to let it harm another soul. His lips opened, calling out only for his words to be muted by whatever cloud of quiet had descended around him. He was powerless. He couldn't do anything.

Luci had the good sense to stumble back towards him and though the blessed couldn't hear a word of what he was saying, Rhys grabbed onto him. He pulled the boy into him, ignoring the way the festering of Luci's damned soul conflicted with his own.

If there were higher beings that decided this kid should be resigned to such a fate, then they could all kiss his ass. Rage bubbled and simmered inside him and for a brief moment something within Rhys snapped. This whole thing was bullshit. Corruption was bullshit. Who the fuck thought they had the right to damn one and save another?

"Who are you to deliver judgement upon others, Rhys? You're not God. Don't act like it."

That little rise in the corner of his mouth combined with the cool detachment in his eyes sealed that Omnibus's fate. Not only had it hurt an innocent --one whom he admittedly felt very protective over-- but the thought of putting a bullet right through that bastards skull gave him a twisted inner delight. He was savoring the moment.

Rhys stepped in front of Luci, squeezing the trigger as he channeled his rage into that single bullet. The Omnibus went to move, but the tendrils of shadow still clung to it's form. A blinding white light emerged from the gun as the bullet set out much faster than the one previous, blue sparks running off the smooth metal as it met bone. The side of the Omnibus' skull exploded, bits of bone and horn raining across the floor as the creature clutched at the wound. It didn't seem to be in pain, only more pissed and it set it's sights on Rhys.

Rhys grinned. As he did so the temperature of the room fell a little. Even in the dim light it was hard to miss his bared teeth. It was a cheshire grin of sorts, the kind that was so wide it was more as if he wanted nothing more in the world than the pleasure of killing this thing. Under the cotton of his shirt, his tattoos pulsed a brilliant white, crystal blue flames licking at the edges of his fingers and around his gun. Those same flames were reflected in his eyes.

"Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil...especially not an ugly sonnuva bitch like you."

The demon staggered back as if something with force had hit him square in the chest, opening what was left of it's mouth to let out a silent shriek. Azure orbs flickered to the prophet, watching and waiting for her to finish it.

HELL COMES KNOCKING

The vampire was now so close to her neck that she could practically feel his fangs, just before he was about to bite Nik's voice came from across the room "Hey, Fang-Banger, get the fuck off my State!" A dagger flew past the two hitting a hellhound. The chain of events went by so quick yet as if it was going in slow motion. The wooden shelving now knocked the vampire off of Alaska and she jumped to her feet panting.

'' I told you i'll kill you '' A whisper succeeded the sound of her gun being fired. The bullet went through the vampire's forehead, right between his eyes. That wasn't enough, if only vampires died of head shots.... She leaned by him slowly, picking the wooden shelve up and snapping it on her knee into to halves. The next few moments were too sereal, as if she was in a dream, as if it was only her and the vampire in the room. Getting dangerously closer to the shithead who had just opened his eyes, Alaska placed one of her hands on his neck keeping him in place, with the other, she drove the sharp end of the shelf slowly into his heart, she then held her knife and slowly cut through in one long stride, blood scattered everywhere as she decapitated him she stood up, her eyes void of any emotion.

Holding the remaining piece of the shelving with both hands, Alaska hit one of the hell hounds that came dashing at her. She collected her knife and Niks' dagger off the ground and now made her way through to where he was, stabbing revenants left and right with both blades. The former stone cold look on her face from when she killed the vampire disappeared now, she was even...as cheerful as a child with a new toy ''Remind me to change my name to something you can't make fun of...Never mind, you'd make fun of anything '' Her head was tilted slightly to the side and an exasperated smile was present on her face as she presented the knife to him gratefully: ''Now let's go blind that condom head''

Alaska didn't linger much, the thrill of chasing, the desire to keep those people safe, and the excitement of sending hell back running surged through her blood. she turned away picking her crossbow once again and making and cutting her way through to the gigantic juggernaut who was swinging his axe in the face of both groups regardless of species

Nik could've lied and said he had meant to create the catastrophe that had allowed the plank to thwunk into the side of the undead neck-breather's head. He could've easily owned the credit of doing his patriotic duty for his State, with deep blue eyes sparkling beneath confident brows, and a charismatic smile tying together the elegant acceptance of his award for public bravery.

But if he had admitted to owning that insane move, he'd be expected to pull it off again. And he was sure that the next time would be actually very unlucky, and Alaska would be Northern and Southern Alaska, by way of his shitty aim. He vowed to never again attempt to throw something, and promised himself he'd ask either Alaska or Rhys to teach him how to shoot a gun. It was a vital skill, a vital skill he was completely inept at, and would possibly be inept at till the day his soul burned in the fires of hell.

When Alaska ended the Vampire's life, driving the wood through its heart, she struck a chill down his spine. This was exactly how it would've been. This was exactly what would have happened. There was no blue dress on her thin frame, there were no pagan markings on her pretty fingers, there was no sinful red lip to be seen, but this was how it would've been, had she managed to live past the afterbirth of their brave, horrible new world.

''Remind me to change my name to something you can't make fun of...Never mind, you'd make fun of anything.' God, you sound just like her. He forced a smile, and of course it looked as bright and devious as ever.

''Now let's go blind that condom head'' You're playing off of me just the same. Please, have mercy. He let out a playful laugh as though nothing else was spinning in his mind. Because it couldn't. Not now, certainly, in these adrenaline-fueled, blood-quickening moments of fight or flight, do or die. And...not ever. Because he'd run from the look of those lips, the sound of that laugh, and the scent of that hair for as long as he could.

Or else he'd be ensnared till time immemorial.

Nik was speechless for a few moments, carefully taking back the blade Alaska had graciously returned to him, but he snapped out of it soon enough. They had to get rid of the heavyweight tater-tot, and soon. Or at least disarm it enough so it stopped becoming an overwhelming obstacle. It was close enough this time that it wrenched its mammoth arm back, swinging the axe, and he could feel the sweep of the air as it pulled around him in a tunnel.

Flipping his blade in his hand, Nik cracked a grin, and surged forward on fleet feet, carried by the anxiety of familiarity between his new partner in violence and old partner in sweet nothings, curled eyelashes, and musical laughs. That wayward hellhound that had careened into the shelving unit stirred itself and tried, again, to jag after him, but it was looking like it wasn't going to win the race here, and started to slow as its body became engulfed in flames. Its paws singed the floor and it yowled out a hellish cry.

The juggernaut whipped back his heavy axe and Nik ducked low to the ground, narrowly missing getting a brand new haircut. Sure, Nik was fast, but one clock from this thing meant his head would roll, so he'd need to be particularly careful. Its slick black apron fluttered up with the impact of its axe in a broad swing, while Nik stared up at the thing to study just how to take it down.

It was powerful, on meaty muscles, like some kind of circus freak on steroids. But it looked human. It had a weird helm over its head, but it could still see them enough to attack. That must have meant the weave of the helm was large enough to peer through, but it seemed it could also reflect bullets. If they had a shotgun, that might've done the job, but it'd need to be some kind of "through the upper chest as you slide through the legs" situation, and as spry as he was, he couldn't wield guns for shit.

Nik swerved around the behemoth and nicked its side with his blade, trying to draw its attention. He was doing a good enough job, with his palpable speed, at making himself the prime target, but then what?

"Alaska, it can see through this thing I think...I don't know if blinding the fuckwit's going to do a lot—" the beast cut Nik's sentence short by letting out a blood-curdling, deep, rolling scream and tried to slam his weapon down at his head. Nik rolled to the side, and the axe connected with the floor just a few inches away from him, the boards cracking apart and splintering into the air like the snow outside splintered in tiny fragments. Nik skittered away and broke into a run, now standing shoulder-to-shoulder with his State.

"But I'm going to distract it and try to go for its legs to keep it from attacking. It smells like a very ripe frat boy, so I think it's human." This was Nik's play. He'd get in close to the thing, even if it smelled worse than a boy's locker-room after a football game—minus the Axe of course—and try to wreak small amounts of havoc. He could try his hand at inducing pain, which he was already attempting as he shot out of the beast's grasp and levied his palm at the giant monstrosity, but it didn't seem to be doing very much at all. Its pain tolerance must have been insane. He managed to cut another slash in its hulking muscle, and this would've meant slow-going because of how thick this bastard was, except now there was a lot of blood on his blade.

Enough that it caught his eye, his heart-rate sped up, and he bristled with the war that thrummed in his veins. It called to him like any other darkness, and that same sadistic, joyful smile from their battle with the horde of Revenants painted itself across his face.

Swiping back a few steps, he darted in again and cracked one of his blades into its haunch, maintaining his position in a blind spot that made it almost impossible to grab him, but the creature was trying to, desperately. He dug it in deeper, and then let his other blade slip far enough from his grasp to clock the man-beast in the meat of his calf, through his pants. Or, it would've, except it had managed to get a hold of the blond with its meaty fingers hooked on the back of his hair.

No fucks given, Nik wrenched his head back, he was a few hairs short and would now need a haircut, and prepared to go in again. But he wasn't thinking about his locks, about his past, or even about Alaska at this point. He was thinking about how he wanted more blood on his hands, more oceans of bile, more perylene red, more wounds, and about the spindling fingers of blackness that would come to clutch his throat and wrend his pale soul free to deliver him to freedom of conscience and consequence.

To live in blessed, blessed darkness.

It hurts! Ithurtsithurtsithurtsithurts! This was the only thing that Luci could even think about after he broke his knuckles. Luci's eyes water as he grabs his wrist. Luci wasn't crying because of the pain, oh he could stand it. What he could not stand, however, was being so utterly powerless. Luci wanted to prove how useful he could be, by taking the axe-man down, but what really happened was quite the contrary. He could NOT stand being useless. HE wanted to protect his friends. Luci grits his teeth as he remembers, he doesn't have the power. No, you do. Luci's chest starts to burn, and the tattoo starts festering. Luci holds his hand, outstretched towards the omnibus. Inky black tentacles spawn from the beasts shadow. The tentacles wrap themselves around the staggering beasts wrists and ankles. The tentacles start constricting the beast. Loud cracks and pops can be heard from the damned soul. Luci broke the beasts arms and legs. Luci grins. "An eye...for an eye.." Luci says. Luci turns his head to the estranged prophet. "Finish him." Luci demands.

James
Gravitational Force Gravitational Force Artificial Angel Artificial Angel

He faced a new group of hellhounds that were just closing in on them. He turned from the surprise and the short exchange of pleasantries with the sword-wielding healer back into fighting mode right away. Just as he wanted to step in and start fighting heard the man's voice, "Light! Burn them alive!" It was followed by a surge of white light engulfing the beasts before they started rushing in. They yelped and shrieked in pain and as James was able to see them again they were lying motionless on the floor their flames extinct. Just a moment later the man who used light to heal and to kill dropped to the ground, presumably unconscious. James looked at the next guy close by.

"We have to protect him until we can take him out with us!"

He couldn't take the time to wait for an answer before he turned again, a new deformed beast leaping towards him. A small sidestep followed by a kick to the hellhounds head that sends it flying off to the left slightly. As it passed by him like that it got a bullet through one of its eyes. James noticed the inner blaze of that one being darker with a faint purple shimmer in it. He didn't think much of it after the beast had hit the ground and slid away a few more feet.

Two more hellish beasts came pacing towards him from two sides, one he took down with two more shots. First one to the leg, causing it to stumble and second one through its head. The other hound jumped at him but James got his machete in between and it got impaled on it. It thrashed its claws at him wildly, cutting and burning his body and face, whilst snarling in anger and pain. He put his pistol to its head and pulled the trigger. He shoved its lifeless body off his blade and ran the back of his left hand through his face, smearing blood all over it.

His eyes darted around, looking for the next fight as he heard scratching sounds right behind him. He wanted to turn but the hellhound already jumped into his back and drove its torrid teeth into his shoulder. He barely kept on his feet, stumbling forwards. He felt the heat burning the skin on his back together with its claws ripping through it. He stabbed his blade into its shoulder and tore it off of him, throwing it into the ground before his feet. He recognized the same grim and purplish flames of the beast. The motherfucker got up again. He knew they always could get back to life unless you removed their heart but still, this was personal now. It was getting up again as his foot hit its stomach throwing it to the ground once more. James threw himself onto it, pushed his knee into the hellhounds throat pinning it to the ground. He sliced its torso right open, then let go of his machete to push his hand into the monster's chest. He felt the flames licking away at his lower arm until he felt something freezingly cold touch his hand. The hellhounds heart. He grabbed hold of it and tore it out its body. The hellhound lay became motionless, its flames flickered out, the freezing cold vanished from its heart as it slowly turned black in James' hand. Then started crumbling away and he looked at it a little perplexed. It fell apart until only a small crystal of dark purple color was left in his hand.

He looked up at a hellhound sprinting towards him, aimed and pulled the trigger twice. Luckily, his first shot brought the thing down, cause after that his gun just clicked uselessly. He put the gun away, took the crystal into his left hand and pulled his machete out the body in front of him as he stood back up.

HELL COMES KNOCKING

''It smells like what now?" They stood shoulder to shoulder, Alaska shooting at hell hounds and revenants till she was completely out of ammo. ''shit! Nik! She shouted at the blond afflicted as he ran towards the juggernaut and started stabbing at it with his knives. HELP.....HELP HIM...GO! Alaska ran towards the beast, cossbow in her hands ready to shoot. The only problem was that her new crazy friend was now making the creature move frantically, swinging its axe in every possible direction.

The back of it's axe sent two revenants across the hall slamming into some hell hounds. A vampire was sliced in half, and the cries of the smelly giant now filled the hall covering every other sound. Nik now hung from the creature's calf by his knife, his hair grabbed by the juggernaut who now leaned in slightly to get a better hold of it's prey. It was her shot, it was now or never. The look she observed in Nik's eyes chilled her to the bone, it wasn't human. It wasn't human at all. The darkness that now enveloped his smile reminded her of her brother completely possessed by that red eyed demon. She wasn't going to allow him to give in. She couldn't make that mistake again....No, not again...
Alaska knelt on the ground, the mark on her left hand now burning. She slid the bolt back into the barrel, and aimed towards the leaning monster. Her breathing was calm, arms steady, eyes locked at the left hole of the helm. Her right hand supported the weight of the crossbow and her left hand's fingers caressed the trigger, gently pulling, while her body stood completely steady.

The amount of blood caused by Nik's stabbing was enough to fill a barrel. Thick whitish goo mixed with more blood oozed out of the left hole as the arrow disappeared completely behind it. The creature's shrieks became louder as it brought its free hand to its injured eye, Alaska managed to dodge the frantic swinging of the axe and shouted sincerely with all her might: ''COME DOWN! Nikl! Please!'' Her crossbow now lay on the ground waiting to be reloaded. A hell hound got his neck slit by Alaska's knife as it came darting at her. The juggernaut's shrieks became louder. God! Why was she that bad at talking! ''Niklas! You'll get yourself killed if you stay there! DAMN IT YOU ASSHOLE WE NEED YOU COME DOWN!'' Her voice cracked. The smell of foul blood reeked in the building, more vampires and revenants now turning their attention to the howling beast, coming to its aid. It was apparent that the juggernaut was now weaker, but those creepers didn't seam to be willing to let him go down without a proper fight.

BGM:xxxx NINE INCH NAILS - THE HAND THAT FEEDS

[/div]
[/div][div class=speaks]
The feeling of the juggernaut's blood slicking his hands was exactly that of a pulsing, electric, white-hot high. Nik was fighting tooth and nail to step down from the intoxicating sensation crawling through his veins, but he was having a harder time than he usually did with talking himself down. It was quite possible that his capacity to dip his toes over the edge of sanity and reason, and submerge waist-deep in the ferns of blackened damnation, was mired in the sheer amount of the deluge they were facing.

He much liked to sit in, waist-deep, his pale skin feathered in the unholy. When it drew shadow up his limbs, it left a hot breath on his neck, like a kiss she may have given. But it always ended, and he was always able to breathe in deep, clear his mind, and use what Diana—his own personal, metaphorical holy ghost—had taught him.

It could also be, as he was so close to that black hole sun, that every jaunt that required this much of his infernal power to enact, would be another drawing of the small, precious siphon of humanity he had sitting square in his chest. It was a scarce commodity for even normal humans, but for Nik, it was a lifeline that was quickly running dry. He was on borrowed time, and somewhere in there, he knew it.

He barely noticed if Alaska had gotten off her shot, only sensing the movement of the beast he was continually assailing. A heft of weight here, a dip there, a swing. He was experiencing kinetics, the smell of copper, thirst, hunger, rage, bloodlust, and not much else. The juggernaut wailed at the wound Alaska had given him to his eye, his calf drowning the floor with milky fluids and hot, sticky red liquid. Nik managed to gouge in his other blade, and dig down, so that when the juggernaut scrawled out a cry of pain.

He eviscerated its calf into a fount.

She had blinded the beast, and he had made it limp. They'd be able to find a way around it much more easily now, but it seemed like Nik just wasn't done painting the floor just yet.

Even as Revenants swarmed to lash at him, he cleaved them back. They stalked on slow, dumb feet, and wailed like the soulless, stupid wraiths they were, arms outstretched to sup on his flesh. Deep cuts tore through his black thermal shirt, but luckily no bites were to be found. He was too fast for their slow movements.

But wasn't even killing most of them at this point, he was quite simply, hacking, away, at, anything, that, seemed, remotely able to be bled dry.

He was gone in this, completely gone, but not yet twisted in on himself, not yet the full bastion of darkness, not yet the man in apropos to the monster that wanted to be born in his skin.

''Niklas! You'll get yourself killed if you stay there! DAMN IT YOU ASSHOLE WE NEED YOU COME DOWN!'' Alaska's voice shot through his head like one of her bullets would and he staggered back, his blades in both his hands. Then he pressed his fingers to his temple and made a satisfied sound. It was in complete juxtaposition to the confusion on his face, and the throbbing pain in his head. He had been wounded, but wasn't feeling the effects of the pain the Revenants' crooked nails gave him. Or rather, he was, but he enjoyed it. That was never a hindrance.

This headache was, however. Because it felt like something else. Something worse than bites, stabs, splits, or broken bones.

"I'm trying, partner. Really I am. I can't be in this for much longer. Do me a favor," He was still clutching his head, but moving back from the onslaught so that he was level with Alaska's shoulder yet again. He looked down at her hand, then her ankle—wounded, bleeding—and then back to her shoulder, and finally the side of her face. From the corner of his eye, studying her, the line of her cheek, the fatigue and fight in her eyes. At that moment, she was that ghost he had seen from earlier, her features shaded over with one specific and unyielding memory he could never pluck from his grey-matter.

"Keep talking to me. Tell me about what we're going to do when we get out of here." He now held up his blade once more, the other blade in a less than enthusiastic hand, but still strong. This was his plan. If her words could pull him back, he needed her to keep talking. Even if she was fogged over with still-frames from forever ago, even if it hurt to think about—hurt in the way he avoided—even if it wouldn't make sense to her right now, he needed her to just keep talking.

"Please."

❖ HELL COMES KNOCKING ❖

Here she was again, a block away from the station with not a soul by her side, unless you counted the solitary lesser light obscured by the looming clouds overhead. And Reverie often did. For two years, Luna's shining face had always been the only one constant presence the solivagant had permitted to stay by her side, unobtrusively guiding her steps in the dark. The road had called to her, an excuse she often repeated in her head like a daily mantra as if by repeating it over and over again, she could whitewash the guilt-

The road calls, I must leave. There is no place for one like me there...

Monsters didn't have to bare sharp teeth. They didn't need to have red eyes and an unholy thirst for blood. Heck, they didn't even need to have murdered or... or betrayed their own kind out of self preservation. Monsters, just didn't care. They didn't have a heart. And she knew she was one of them. It had been easy enough. Catching a nap earlier than the rest, slipping out when everyone was winding down. It was even easier given the fact that they didn't delegate any watchers on the lookout. Perhaps they did, but their attention had been on watching things heading in, not one of their own heading out. Check her supplies, lie about taking a breather, and then she was out. Emma, Rhys, Alaska, Nik, and the others. Soon to be just nothing but a set of faceless names, just like Carmen and Andrew before them. And Jung. And Hannah. And Roy, Tiff, Joel, Francis. And Desmond. Reverie steps faltered then, as it always did. And just like she always did, she shut her eyes as if by doing so she could shut out the memory of their faces. Just faceless names... Just faceless names... just faceless names... She didn't understand why it was still hard. She didn't know these people. She never knew all of them. She'd made sure to leave early this time. Time leads to attachment, attachment becomes a burden, and burdens are distractions that will kill you; Rule #4.

Reverie let out a long pent-up breath and turned to rest her back into a shadowed alcove of a building. "God damn..." She turned to the sky and cursed Luna's impassive face. She would find no emotional support there. Reverie was about to set off again when blackened fingers suddenly grasped at the corner of her shadowed hideaway. She reacted quicker this time. Grasping at a leather thong around her neck, she retrieved the little vial hanging between her collarbones, pulled the stopper and downed the foul liquid in one gulp. The jaundiced eyes of a salivating revenant slid into view just around the corner at the same time Reverie had to scrounge her face as the vile tasting potion slid down her throat. She held her breath. For a brief instant, they locked gazes. Then she felt a slight tingle course to her extremities and then the revenant slinked away, its long nails scraping on the tarmac. Fuck!!! Her heart was pounding wildly, but quickly steadied it by breathing through her mouth, as silently as she could cause..- Fuck! FUCK! FUCK!!! The streets were crawling with them. The hairs on the nape of her neck raised even as a cold steely vice gripped her spine. She had no idea where they came from or the fact that they all seemed to be moving with a purpose. Revenants never did that, they scavenged around waiting to sniff out the warm blood of prey unless... something was directing them. That something was herding them in the direction of the station. Her blood ran cold.

If she had been fearful with the sudden appearance of so many revenants, Reverie was now positively terrified. She remembered them of course. Ripping through flesh like they were nothing more than plastic bags filled with water. But worse of all, was when they sensed beings of magic like her. Being killed would've been welcomed with the widest embrace than to face the alternative. The excruciating torture. They savaged with the vilest darkest abuse that only a being of purest evil could imagine. And when you've been laid to bare, they flayed you from you, rending your soul asunder. And through it all, you will watch helplessly as they possessed the one thing that allowed you to be you, your body. She'd never felt it. But she saw it. Saw it Tiffany's pleading eyes, begging her for release. But she had been afraid. She should leave right now like she did then. Reverie's hazel orbs watched the twisted backs of the revenants, oblivious to the little puny witch, hiding in her corner. She'd just have to check for the hounds and slowly creep away, making sure she didn't run into any of those obsidian or crimson-eyed abominations. It would've been so easy... She willed her feet to carry her away. To budge in the opposite direction, taking her far from this godforsaken place. They didn't need her. She was already half out after all...

❖ ❖

"Oh God... why..." It was the umpteenth time she was cursing herself as she darted from abandoned car, to a lamppost, to a bush, trying to stay out of sight as much as possible. They were all over the place. Not that she expected otherwise, the moment she'd decided that she wasn't going to run. Not this time. In retrospect, she thought she had decided on running. But here she was, hiding in the midst of a shrub while fiery hounds raced ahead on the far side of the road. She didn't know whether to cry or laugh, the fact that her masking potion lasted this long. But she knew for a fact that it worked, having nearly brushed pass one of the Revenants earlier. And as long as she kept her distance from the hounds... Reverie bit her bottom lip, her gaze roving over the station up ahead. Even in the dim light of a shrouded moon, she could clearly see the kind of shithole her former companions must be in. The place was surrounded, with a larger concentration of hellspawn on the front. Or at least, there was more commotion out there. Which meant that they were still alive, but for how long, she dared not guess. What could she do? She was barely considered a witch. Alchemy was much simpler, or rather, you could prepare ahead. If things failed, you could try again. But there was only so much her alchemy knowledge could achieve in such a situation. But magic..? She closed her hands over her eyes. To hell with it. She didn't care anymore. She checked her equipment one final time, then set off at a run towards the backdoor. There was a crowd of revenants at the back, clawing and scratching in their effort to get in. If she was quick enough, she could get them all at once, before her potion wore out. She reached into her pack, drew forth a few bottles of caustic liquid and pulled her arm back for a throw. The moment she attacked, her guise would be up. She aimed, and flung them...

"Now that's not very nice... little witch." An impossibly deep voice snarled as from out of nowhere, a twisted form dashed at her, so quickly it almost seemed like a blur. But as the demon pounced at her hapless form, she caught sight of its gaunt visage and found herself staring into a bottomless void where its eyes should have been. It was here. She was dead. She instinctively threw her arms up to protect herself, even knowing that she'd soon feel them ripped from their sockets. She braced for the inevitable pain.

"Osłaniać mnie!"

*
"Tak Rèviee, jast like zat. Close your eyes, see eet in your heart. Feel eet... zat weetch you want to protect most..." They were out in the woods again, sat on a picnic blanket. It was cold, sometime in fall perhaps. But it had always been cold back home. The late afternoon sun filtered through the surrounding trees, catching on Sophie's long blonde hair like strands of purest gold threads. Her brilliant sapphire eyes sparkled in the light. The White Witch of the ancient Białowieża Forest was beautiful, a lithe elegant woman of eastern European descent. She'd always wished she could look like her, ruefully pulling at her brown locks and washing her hazel eyes in the hopes that they'd catch the colour of water so that they would turn blue. But her mother only smiled and said she did, in fact, look a lot like her. it was one of those rare occasions. Reverie had thrown a tantrum back in that stuffy library of their house, knowing well enough that if she kept whining the Countess would relent and let her out.

"I am tryink Mama... I kan't see it. Nufink's happenink. I don't feel-"

"Hush Rèviee, you say you kan't, but I see it in you... Trast me, jast repeat watt I say."

"But I don't underst-"

"Jast repeat it, and believe."

"Osłaniać"

"Osłaniać mnie z dala od światła życia!" There was a flash of golden light and then a loud BOOM followed by an unearthly scream of pain. She felt her feet leave the ground, and then she was tumbling backwards, rolling painfully on the hard ground. She came to a stop, but her mind was still reeling from the explosion, barely registering what had happened. She felt warm liquid trickling down her cheek and tried to put a hand under her in an effort to stand up, but a wave of nausea caused her to grit her teeth against the pain.

"WHITE WITCHSS!" She heard the sibilant hiss even over the disorientating static in her ears. It was not over yet.

HELL COMES KNOCKING

''Wh....What?'' Alaska was beyond confused. Who'd make jokes now? She dodged another swing of the axe and fixed her eyes on Nik who now clutched his head in pain. Blood pouring from his open wounds. The look on his face was unlike anything she'd ever seen. The amount of pain he was in greatly alarmed her, but the look in his eyes clearly stated that he needed this.

''Umm..'' She started after digging her knife into a revenant's eye ''Doughnuts! I'd like to have some donuts! And...and cinnamon rolls!'' her once nervous voice now eased into a very comfortable tone, as if she was sitting at a cafe with some friends, talking about random things and sipping coffee. ''I want to watch old movies, to listen to good bands again!. You know the best rock bands lived around 80 years ago? Almost a century and i still listen to their songs!'' She went on cheerfully as a hound tackled her. The trusty knife came in handy one more time as the young hunter carved its heart out, watching as it was reduced to ashes and flames. She locked her brown eyes with Nik's exhausted hazel ones, a couple of stray locks covering half of her face. Alaska went on panting: ''I want to go to a library! A big ass library with real old books that smell like vanilla! You know what occurred to me? People don't care about books during the apocalypse! Who'd steal books? Let's go loot a library!'' She almost believed her crazy idea. It'd been a very long time since the last time she spoke as freely as she was now, and frankly she didn't want to stop! ''Let's get out of here and take every body!'' She dodged another blow of the now exhausted juggernaut ''Rhys, and Luci, and....and James!. Let's take the naked witch, and firey haired Emma and Reverie! Do you know that she was named after a day dream! Reverie!'' Alaska stopped mid sentence then burst into laughter: ''Let's loot a library in Alaska! Can you believe that i've never been to Alaska? Oh and after we finish....let's get some sleep!'' Tears now fell down her face uncontrollably. She kept looking at Nik between dodging and stabbing.

The juggernaut's howls and shrieks became worse by the second, it limped from side to side swinging the axe with its free hand still covering its bleeding eye. An idea struck her mind as her eyes started looking frantically around the station Where is that damn chain The car towing chain that she noticed when looking for food before all of this commotion lay on the ground next to some equipment that used to be on one of the shelves they used to barricade the doors with previously. The chain wasn't very long but it was good enough to at least try and trip the giant.

She tied the first end to one of the structural poles and ran to the front door while holding the other end. Pulling on the chain tightly while standing in the was of the juggernaut ,Alaska waited as the giant limped its way to her elementary trap and tripped over it with a thud, falling forward on some revenants. It's axe now lay next to the half blind giant on the ground. ''Finish that son of a bitch! and let's loot some libraries! her eyes were still fixed on the juggernaut as she addressed her words to Nik. Untying the chain from the pole she used it to wrap it around the juggernaut's injured leg and started pulling at it really hoping they'd be able to finish it before it figured out how to get back on its feet

[div class=Example2_3]Hell Comes Knocking[/div]
The boom shocked Emma into wakefulness. Earlier that night, she'd popped outside to check over the big eighteen-wheeler truck that'd hauled gas here and would likely never move again. With so many survivors holed up in the Shell Station, this was as good a chance as any to take her time picking through it to see what supplies she might turn up for so many. Thankfully, the truck itself had a passenger cabin drivers used for long-hauls and she'd found some extra clothes and a coat which would be nice for someone. Emma also found an old copy of Kushiel's Dart and she was briefly entertained paging through it until the excitement of the day caught up with her and she fell asleep on the passenger cabin's bunk.

Not anymore.

Tumbling out of the truck, Emma saw a cacophony of battle had overwhelmed the gas station where her new charges had settled in for the night. Sounds of battle from the front were unmistakable but there was no way to help them, given out back there was another smaller pack of Revenants pawing at the back, led by some kind of nightmarish antler-horned freak of a monster. More immediately, though, was the prone figure of that remarkable brunette she'd met briefly earlier, Reverie. More than a pair of legs indeed. The pair in question were rather on display at the moment, owing to the fact that the woman had been knocked flat on her ass by...something.

Emma sniffed as she dropped to the ground and moved forward. Her senses tingled with the wake of magic. Was the girl a Witch then? She hadn't quite tasted the electricity of magic on her, the way she'd noticed it in Stella or Terra earlier. But the world still reverberated with the echoes of something potent, something not tainted, something that called to her own nature.

Dropping to one knee, she slipped an arm around Reverie's shoulders in an effort to help her stand. "I have you, dear," she said softly to the other woman. Emma then whipped her other arm up and out as she called on the sinful power that had put her in the position of needing God's forgiveness in the first place. Flame erupted from her free hand, sweeping over the pile of Revenants at the backdoor. She couldn't manage a clean hit on the antlered creature, too many bodies between her and it, but at least she could thin the numbers and give those inside a chance for survival. "Back to the truck," she urged Reverie. "I can hold-"

"Not yours," hissed a consciousness that suddenly pressed against her. Emma looked back to the direction Reverie had been facing and saw a gaunt body blown back, blown open and now discarded like an empty puppet. Understanding followed a second too late...and then the demon flooded into her, snarling, enraged and fixated on making her its puppet so it could strangle the life out of the woman it so desperately wanted. "Mine! As you're about to be!"

Emma staggered and then she was the one falling back to one knee, needing support rather than being able to give support to Reverie as she had been. Blackness swept over her blue eyes in a second. And then a moment later more white light flared from beneath her winter coat, tendrils curling up her neck like veins as her own power answered it. "I'm already spoken for," Emma whispered. And then she went still as the psychic battle was joined, her body the battlefield.

The old Luiza would have never sat back and watched as the people around her fought a monster. She would have jumped right in with a wicked grin on her face, yelling obscenities at the damn thing.
Ugly bastard! Hunter Luiza screeched in delight, bloodlust leeching into her voice. Wincing as she watched Luci nearly get swatted by the creature, Luiza decided she needed more than her little knives to help attack this thing. Shoving one back into its sheath in her boot, she stepped back from Luci and Rhys for but a moment, fumbling through her backpack to find her most prized weapon. Though at the moment it was but a hilt, she pulled it from her bag, giving it a flip as it emerged and the blade sprung from its once hidden position folded neatly into the hilt.
gxX1XL.gif
It had been her main weapon of choice in nearly every fight she'd ever had as a hunter, and just holding the weapon made a smile briefly flicker across her impassive face. Memories tugged at her mind.
The blade cleanly sliced through a vampires neck as Luiza ducked and dodged, weaving her way through enemies as she flipped the blade open and back closed to allow her room to maneuver. A malicious grin was spread across her face as she decapitated another, its gurgling screams giving her a twist of sick pleasure in her gut. Five down, the few remaining started to back away as Luiza’s dark eyes shot hungry looks at them, rivulets of blood collecting where each piece of the blade sit neatly against each other then running down to the tip. With hurried glances at each other, the vampires retreated, their will to live stronger than the desire to continue to combat the hunter. They’d need a larger group than that to kill her. As they left, Luiza knelt, procuring a heavy cloth that she then used to wipe the blood from her sword, carefully cleaning it in all its crevasses before folding it back up and sliding it through a loop in her belt.
She wasn’t satisfied, of course. The hatred she felt burned bright still, and she wished without a doubt that they had stayed. For a moment, the thought of chasing them crossed her mind. Shaking her head to herself, she stood and turned away, ready to return home.

As Luiza woke from her brief stasis, she realized the omnibus was near incapacitated, Rhys having done something to it that left a gaping hole in its chest, head now bowed as it silently screamed. Tendrils wrapped around the creature’s limbs, holding him in a useless, vulnerable position. With a start, Luiza realized they meant for her to kill it. Rhys looked expectantly at her, and then she looked to Luci, who fiercely demanded she kill it. With more confidence than she’d had in quite some time, the prophet grinned, dashing towards the thing with inhuman speed, driving her sword straight through its chest, where it pierced its heart, blade driven so hard it exited through the creature's back. The omnibus howled, and Luiza twisted her sword, tearing open the damned thing's heart as she drove the knife in her left hand into its neck, where a human might have a spine. Unsure if this was the right move, she stepped back, withdrawing her blades, hoping for the best but having little faith in what she’d done.
You show some hope yet. Her inner voice mused. Sad you don’t use what was gifted to you.
The mark, it spoke of. A blessing and a curse now that she was a prophet. Oblivious to the dying monsters around them, she looked at her hand, where the familiar symbol still was. It surprised her every time she looked that it was still there. Looking back at Rhys and Luci her smile faded. Man she hoped that thing was dead.
Lets get the fuck out of here.”
