General:

Name || Nicolás "Nic"
Age || 23
Gender || Male
Orientation || Pansexual
Race || Latino/Japanese
Biography:

Russet skin color with dark, blackish-Brown hair. He is around 6'1 and a pretty lanky guy. His eyes are a pale yellow. He usually wears a huge, fluffy jacket that goes down to just above his knees.

Background ||
Nic has lived on his own on the streets of A New Beginning since he was around 8 years old. He was a thief most of his life. He started small, only stealing bread from open shops and food from people when they weren't looking. Soon figuring out how to pickpocket the unsuspecting citizens of A New Beginning. As he got older, though, Nic began stealing from the richer people in the city, figuring how to break into the advanced locks of the homes in the new city. He soon became a famous thief inside the city, even having his own calling card at all the places he robbed. One of his last jobs involved him robbing a large sum of money from one of the biggest celebrities in town. Currently, Nic lives alone in the underbelly of the town, living in a shack of a home with all of his earnings inside.

Nic's early life was fairly hard. His mother had an irrational hate for him, causing him to be abused most of his life growing up. While most memories of his mother are fuzzy all he really remembers is the fact that his mother seemed to feel the need to get rid of him at all costs. His mother was fairly wealthy, so when he ran away, he stole a large amount of money before becoming free in the streets of A New Beginning

Personality ||
Nic is sarcastic, rude, and doesn't listen to any sense of authority. He loves to run his mouth and often doesn't know when to keep it shut. He really enjoys stealing and breaking into places, seeing it as the only thing he's really good at. He doesn't respect authority figures or people of the upper class in the city of A New Beginning. Nic is known for holding grudges against people who make him angry. He likes to spend a lot of his extra cash in one of the local bars in time and is known to show off and flirt when drunk.

While Nic is kind of a dick, he often goes out of his way to help people in trouble. It is one of his biggest faults is his secretly kind heart to anyone or anything that is in trouble. Sometimes sacrificing his own well-being to help children and small animals or just weak looking people. He's also fairly hot-headed, often starting fights he has no chance of finishing.

Name || Jaime Alistair
Age || 21
Gender || Male
Orientation || Heterosexual
Race || European (He's white, that's about it)

Biography:

White skin, with medium-length, brown hair and brown eyes. Has a height of 5'11, and a relatively skinny frame. Usually wears a jacket and a pair of comfortable long pants, like jeans or cargo pants. Has severe burns covering the lower left side of his face, extending down his neck and covering the majority of his upper-left torso.

Background ||
Jaime did not originally live in A New Beginning. He had lived a normal life elsewhere until he suffered a freak accident that left him with third-degree burns all over his upper body. His injuries were too much for the local hospital to handle, so instead, they sent him to the city of a A New Beginning, which contained much more advanced medical facilities. There, they were able to prevent his death, but were unable to do much to remove the burns. At the request of the hospital, Jaime had stayed afterwards to go through physical therapy.

At age 18, Jaime was formally released from the hospital. However, Jaime felt a strange desire to stay in A New Beginning, and decided to make a life there. Due to his lack of higher education thanks to his confinement in the hospital, it was difficult for Jaime to find a suitable job. Jaime's talents eventually allowed for him to land a job with a design firm, which afforded him a decent, albeit unreliable, income and a lot of freedom.

Personality ||
Jaime is quiet. He does't really talk much to anyone he doesn't know. He is very analytical, and will spend some time surveying a situation before taking action. However, Jaime is good-hearted and doesn't actively wish harm on anyone. Jaime does possess a certain level of neuroticism, which causes him to sometimes be hard on himself and others. Jaime's childhood experience left him with a traumatizing fear of fire, as well as a general fear of death, having been so close. Self-preservation is Jaime's primary instinct, although it takes the form of flight rather than fight.

Abilities:

Superpower || Defensive self-immolation. When severely injured, Jaime spontaneously combusts, healing the wound and granting him increased strength, stamina, and speed. This also allows him limited manipulation of fire. Jaime can activate this power on his own, but only through a lot of concentration and effort. This acts similar to an adrenaline rush, and when it ends, Jaime will be extremely exhausted to the point of unconsciousness. The flames don't harm Jaime, and will leave his clothing relatively intact.

Skills ||
Planning
Artistic
Perseverance

weaknesses ||

Normal fire
Fearful in general
not normally very strong or athletic
not good at improvisation

Fears ||

has a traumatizing fear of normal fire

Why They Want to Win ||

Name || Matthew “Matt” Lawrence
Age || 22
Gender || Male
Orientation || Pansexual
Race || White

Biography:
Appearance ||

Standing at an even 5’10’’, Matt is of average height. In fact, nothing about his appearance really stands out. If you discount the constant bruises and casts that come with the territory of bad luck, Matt would be easy to forget. He has a number of fake teeth from his falls throughout the years, though they don’t look much different from the teeth he still has. He doesn’t wear bright colors much, simply because he isn’t a fan of them. He wears glasses, and after an unfortunate attempt with contacts, he has vowed to never wear them again. Normally, his glasses are black, but if he wants a bit of color, he’ll switch them out for a dull red pair. Most of his clothes are black or white, with a darker navy occasionally appearing in his closet.

Background ||
Matt has always been unusually unlucky. His parents both died in a car crash, one Matt was also in. He was a toddler at this point, so he doesn’t remember too much. He spent a few weeks in the hospital before being sent to an orphanage to await adoption. Matt was quickly adopted into a rather average family. However, that accident was the moment when Matt’s bad luck started.
He started out as a very energetic kid. Sports intrigued him and he was curious about everything. Yet, despite his enthusiasm, things never seemed to go his way. Minutes after he stepped onto any sports field, he’d suffer some kind of injury. A ball to the face, a sprained ankle, or simply a face plant in the grass.
As Matt often came home with bruises, his adoptive family began to suspect he was being bullied. Eventually, no matter how vehemently Matt denied it, they decided to move. This forced Matt to leave the friends he’d made and start anew. As an only child with parents who both worked independently from any company, the move was easy to make. When Matt continued to return home with more injuries, they moved once again. And then again. And again. They were trying to do the best for Matt, but since nothing besides his own look had harmed him, he was just leaving a life he’d only just grown comfortable with.
By middle school, Matt had finally convinced his parents that his injuries came up by no fault of anyone else. They decided to stop moving, but unluckily, the city they’d lived in for the past year didn’t accommodate his parents’ business’ well. So still, they had to move again. Their final move was to the city A New Beginning.
At this point, Matt was nearing 15 and he’d never made a life anywhere. Friends were always temporary, the same with homes and neighbors. He’d never had any stability besides his bad luck. A turn into the wrong side of town was inevitable for him, a mugging, a few broken bones, etc. Whatever it was, it seemed to be attracted to him.
By this point, Matt understood that there was no getting away from what the universe wanted. He started to develop his life around that and as he transitioned into adulthood, he stayed that way. He veered away from sports and any type of game that involved luck. Gambling drew immense losses, so card games were out. And finally, Matt began to get paranoid. It was unavoidable really, considering what he’d been through. Though he was never paranoid of people, only the world around them.

Personality ||

Matt’s luck, or rather, the lack thereof, has shaped the majority of his personality. He’s overly cautious and quite paranoid. The paranoia doesn’t affect his view of people, it affects his view of the world. However, this paranoia causes him to act a bit… weird, and so he doesn’t have many close friends. His luck has forced him to be optimistic, begrudgingly so. If he wasn’t, it’d be hard for him to do anything.
Most of the time, Matt is laid back. If he were to take anything too seriously or get embarrassed easily, his life would be horrible. He takes his falls and any other actions that could be considered clumsy in stride. He doesn’t care what other people think of him. Although he can be quiet because he bites his tongue a lot, literally.
Matt doesn’t have a lot to look forward to. He’s sometimes apathetic when this thought catches his attention, so he takes joy in the small things to prevent this. When he somehow comes across good luck, he can become haughty for a little while. He enjoys being around people so he can live vicariously through them, but he still doesn’t go out often.
Matt is actually rather smart, he just doesn’t get to put anything into practice. It’s a lot more theoretics than actual experience. He’s a quick thinker that still fails in most things because of circumstances that he can’t control.

Superpower || Luck: Matt’s power amplifies his already bad luck in exchange for one or two instances a day of immensely -some say impossibly- good luck.
