AURELIANA
[The Kingdom - Ozryn] What goes bump in the night
“Hm.” Aureliana simply let out a hum of displeasure as the restrained boy revealed himself to be a monster in disguise. The fires of frustration ignited immediately, her concerned expression transforming into a look of disdain. Perhaps Lord Stormcrest was right — as much as she didn’t want to admit — her compassion had blinded her to the obvious threat in front of them.

She would not make that same mistake again.

Following Virgil's attack with her own, she extended a palm outwards towards the trio that had spewed liquid in their direction. Specifically aiming at the middle one, her hand glowed a bright orange for a mere second. “Deceitful creatures. I will cleanse you of your sins,” she muttered before releasing a ball of fire towards her target.

  • Pyroblast - Magic E, Fire Affinity F, Air Affinity F, Magic Range F
    • A basic but effective offensive spell. The user coalesces flames and releases the attack from their palm(s). Although the blast is only powerful enough to target one enemy, the spell can be augmented by wind magic for an even greater effect. The surrounding area can also be scorched and catch fire from the spell depending on the material.

Virgil Mortier Novalume

Titles: Mundane Human, Moon-blessed vampire, Baron of Novalume

The night-crawlers would launch their attacks, clashing with the adventurers. Their battle cries envelopes the night as they, toothy grins would crank up as they delighted in the impending violence.

The monster whose sights were set on the hooded mage would be in for a treat. Aleris would raise his palm, sprouting a slithery tendril from the limb. In one motion, it would shot out at the trapped night crawler, cleaving through the creature in front of him [M1] along with the one approaching from his side [M4] with ease leaving decomposing purple flesh in its wake. Both night crawlers, would cry loudly in pain, before clamping down on its restraints and breaking free. [Tangle Hp 0/3]

Virgil would find the lasers from his attack destroy most of the incoming projectiles but not all of them. As the spit hit the surrounding the buildings, the saliva would begin to harden as though it aimed to [Tangle] its targets.

“Intelligent monsters are pesky, but to this degree I fear for the worst.” He grunted, fearful that the worst indeed come to pass and an immense threat lies in this town. He hates that Aleris and Edwin made the right call with such relative ease, their actions felt devoid of empathy or second thought.

Sparks would ignite between the Solari’s hands, as she fanned her flames with controlled winds the ember explode into a large fiery ball. Aureliana would take her aim and strike at the her for [M6] her strike landing and setting the monster ablaze. The heat from the flames enveloping the creature as it burned even brighter and large causing its allies next to it to back up. Fearful that the flames might devour them in its blazing tantrum. The monster managed to hold on but its life was dwindling fast and if the flames didn’t end soon, it would be devoured by the fire.

With the raise of her bracelet, Yumes focus would shift completely. Her speed coming into
Play as she became a graceful blur, dodging what remained of the incoming artillery fire with surprising ease before turning to the monsters. With her aim true, the tethers that arced from her wand would hit the Nightcrawlers[M8-M12] square in their heads as their minds melted from the psychic onslaught the fae released. The question is, would Yume also be able to handle what she would see. The events that transpired prior to their arrival would pour into the Fae’s head from a first person view causing her to stand idly in her shoes as she absorbed what had transpired.

She would find the village trampled by these monsters, attacking any and every human being in sight. Men, woman, children, and animals, none were spared. Their cries for help would pound within her head. The monsters seemed to only become smarter and more efficient in killing their prey, she’d watch as a monster ripped a man to shreds with its teeth before assuming the humans appearance then proceed to call for help in common.

The night crawlers did not understand the language at all but took notice that when they called for help, humans would come soon enough.

[“Oh? You managed to breach my telepathic network!I didn’t expect a powerful enough psychic to come so soon, are you also one of those bloodsuckers?”] The words would slither into her mind, leaving an unsettling sensation akin to nails on a chalkboard. The Fae would feel herself connected to something far more ominous, it was as though this being was attempting to size up how powerful she was through telepathy. [“I look forward to meeting you all face. Come to me, and I’ll provide what you seek. I promise, I won’t forget you.“ a crazed laughter would fill her head before fading away into silence.

The connection to the unknown entity would quiet however she could still feel it inside her head. It felt like there was a mental pathway leading to locked double doors that could only be opened one way. [Telepathy B + Linked]

[Yume feels herself connected through mental link.]

The Baronet on the other hand would unleash his power. The dark magic would extend out from his position, consuming enemies and could just as easily do the same to allies. Seeing a monster in fear was a rare sight that would be granted today as the night crawlers halted in place. The wave of energy devouring the mana creatures [M1-M7] closest to him and leaving the ones closer to the edge on deaths door. However Edwin was not done just yet, he demanded the monsters know who would send them to oblivion. The monsters would sense Edwin’s power surge to new heights as he chanted with his shield extended, the smirks that had been laced on their face wiped away completely.

Though they held their hands out in protest, the dark knight would take no survivors, his lance would sweep over the area cleanly. Taking the lives of the ones who didn’t die to his initial attack [[M1-M7 dead]] along with dispersing the artillery fire.

Out of the remaining 5, 2 would come too slowly but surely. Their brains slowly trying to recollect themselves before coming back together and seeing more than half their ranks coming back together. Immediately they would run, leaving their 3 comrades whom were still in a trance from Yumes attack.

Though they would run, Yume would know where they’d run. Heading to the towns center where more of them resided and possibly the unknown entity in question.

Aleris’s attack Lands on the monster, dealing Necrotic damage.

Virgil partially disperses the artillery fire.

Aureliana Utilizes her fire to deal fire damage to the Nightcrawler.

Yume uses brain drain on the 5 monsters who were watching from the side. She discovers that night crawlers illusions are based on who they devour.

She also establishes a telepathic connection with an unknown monster entity.

Edwin cleans up the 7 monsters within range.

2 monsters lie on deaths door and are currently trying to escape. Thanks to Yumes brain drain she is knows where their target destination, the church in the center of town.

Whether they give chase or let the grunts go would be up to the group to decide.

[Battle Report]

  • M8-M10 on deaths door

Under the horned helmet, Edwin was fed with the expressions of fear from the demonic creatures. The smallest of smiles appeared on his lips, a small chuckle accompanying it. "Was that it? Hmph, so the rumors about The Kingdom and its monsters were exaggerated after all." The dark, abyss-like eyeholes on his helmet zeroed towards the two monsters who were trying to flee. "They are even routing already, tsk, tsk tsk." Despite the clicking of his tongue, he loved every second of what he saw.

"I'm not really one to chase after fleeing trash while on foot. That would be too much indignity to someone of my position." The baronet said. "However..." Bringing his shield forward, it was as if he was taking aim with it, eyes locked onto the back of one of the fleeing demons. "... that doesn't mean both of them will leave alive." His world were followed by the rapid coalescence of the surrounding mana, all into the ruby-like eyes of the skull embossed on his shield. After mere seconds, a mana bolt was shot from it, zipping through the air hungrily. It hunted one of the scampering demons, set on snuffing out its miserable existence. [Action 1]

Turning back to the group, he tapped the scorched ground with the end of his lance. One clawed and gauntleted index finger tapped against the shaft of his armament, the metallic clinking resonant and constant. "It seems no one is hurt enough to slow us down, good." His tone keep it sharp coldness, much like the weather of that nation. "Shall we continue then? I'm sure this... raiding party must have a 'commander', or whatever passes for one between these demons." With a swiping motion, his lance moved through the bodies of their fallen foes. "Considering their lack of intelligence, for not running away as soon as they saw me, something better must be behind them, hmm? If only marginally, that is."

Aleris smiled wickedly. His canine teeth visible between his lips as they curl uncomfortably wide. His pleasure in seeing the skills he honed for years, successfully applied against this creatures fills him with an obnoxious joy. Only to be cut through by the boasting of Sir Edwin. As well as the vocal concerns of Virgil. His smile fades as he refocuses on the moment. Remembering that this marks only the first step of the journey that is their mission.

"Virgil is correct." Aleris says, examining the puddled necrotized flesh of the creature that aimed to harm him. "This was a planned ambush. Not a simple illusion among a horde of hungry mindless beasts. They spoke, condemning the illusory boy for his failures in speaking common. Though I must admit his pronunciation of Abyssal was crude as well." He adds, casually revealing to the group that he speaks the language. "They mentioned a name. 'Zae'del', I believe. We would be wise to either not allow that final creature escape." Aleris puts his hand forth, launching another tentacle at the running monster that Sir Edwin did not target. Hoping that he might be able to restrain it before it escapes his range.

"Hopefully we might interrogate this remaining foe." Aleris says before turning to Virgil and asking, "Do you recognize the name at all? Perhaps something mentioned by your father when discussing his experiments?"

Yume hummed a few notes, awaiting the sweet, juicy taste of memories. Delicious, succulent memories~! Soon, very soon! And then they arrived, wiping that smirk off her face in an instant.

"Oh…" she gasped.
"Oh!"
"No, don’t—"
"Blehck, why!?"
"Jeez, that’s…!"
"…I’m… uuurp…"

Her face grew more and more pale, until finally, Yume bent over and vomited all over the freshly-annihilated road, her mind desperate to relieve her stomach of the sickening meals that she hadn’t actually eaten. That was an experience she’d never desired to have, now burned into her mind.

After a second go at reliving her stomach of its contents, she finally recovered, wiping her mouth clean. "Never eat human raw. That’s the most foul thing I’ve ever tasted. Even worse than broccoli!"

Suddenly, Yume paused, as the second surprise revealed itself. A powerful, psychic presence. Something to rival even her. Now that wasn’t exactly common. Perfect timing, too, as the others seemed to have noteworthy questions.

"Pretty courteous of you to ask questions about me. I usually just suck up the answers~" she teased. "Are you feeling shy? Go on, you tell me what I am~" An impossible dilemma for the average psychic, considering even Yume herself had no idea.

"I think I might’ve actually just contacted him," Yume answered Aleris, acting casual and pretending like it was all her, rather than the other way around. "Anything you wanna ask him early, through the brainwaves?" she asked, poking her temple a few times. She turned to Edwin, "Something like, ‘Are you adequately prepared to suffer eternal agony in the deep depths of my all-consuming shadow!?’"

She shrugged, before adding, "Oh, uhm… they’re mostly in the center of the town, by the way. Big church, hard to miss. Expect more of these little imps. I’ll let you all handle them this time, ‘cuz there’s no way I’m eating that again."

Approaching the metaphorical doors, Yume metaphorically knocked a couple times.

"Hello? I have a message for you. Ahem. ‘Oh, golly gee, I’m just tickled silly that you’d wanna meet up with lil’ old me~! Anytime, anywhere, honey bunch! Can’t wait for our little get together~! I’ll be right down there in a jiffy, you hold on real tight, mmkay~? See ya soon, mwwwah~!’ Love, Edwin!"

AURELIANA
[The Kingdom - Ozryn] What goes bump in the night
With the immediate monsters dealt with, Aureliana looked over to Yume. Her expression carried a hint of concern as she watched her companion vomit without warning. “Are you alright…?” She took a step forward in her direction with the intention of rubbing her back to soothe her but it would seem whatever nausea Yume was feeling had quickly passed. Instead, she turned her attention over to Aleris who had managed to ensnare the last monster that had attempted to flee.

“It is quite fortunate we have you with us,” she said loud enough to downplay Edwin’s actions in their short-lived battle. “Where did you learn abyssal? Perhaps you can teach me in exchange for knowledge of the Solari Flames…” Aureliana offered. “But that can wait another time…” Her mismatched eyes shifted over to the monster in the tentacle’s grasp. “If you would be so kind as to ask how many dwell in this town and the capabilities of this Zae'del…” She extended her hand out, her fingertips igniting with bright flames. “I will make this creature cooperate should the information be insufficient.”

Virgil Mortier Novalume

Titles: Mundane Human, Moon-blessed vampire, Baron of Novalume

The sound of claws hitting dirt would be audible as the pair of monsters fled for their life. Their movements frantic, lacking any sense of logic or strategy. Fear had consumed them and the dark knight would be sure to push the envelope. Edwin’s bolt of magic would shoot out his shield like a cannon, vaporizing its target with ease. The monster would let out a scream but it would quickly become muffled under the sound of its demise.

The remaining night crawler would watch in horror, stunned for a second before realizing it was still in danger. That moment’s hesitation was all Aleris needed to snare the creature. Its eyes widened in fear, locked onto Edwin who decimated their forces with ease.

Virgil would approach from the side, shock and relief on his face as he looked towards Aleris. His proficiency in abyssal only added to the questions in his mind. Even his use of magic was suspicious. The vampire would straighten his back as he approached.

“I’ve never heard that name, but for them to mention a named monster is telling. However he did mention a monster in particular, wonder if it matches.” He’d turn to Yume who seemed to be under distress. Emptying the contents of her stomach on the floor. He’d approach her, extending out his palm and offering her a fruit bar.

“Battle rations, Apple flavored. You’ll need to keep up your strength if we are to survive A gift from Lord nibbly.” He’d smile, gauging Yume’s mind.

The information she relayed was interesting, for one. The fact that she consumed a monster, he questioned whether or not she was a moon blessed like himself. Aside from possessing scarlet eyes, she possessed lot of similar traits. He’d look at both Aleris and Yume.

“A monster possessing psychic abilities, intellect, and craves knowledge.I read it in his notes. Does that sound familiar?” He’d eye Yume for a co-sign on the topic.

Aleric would relay Aurelianas question, though with his own twist.

“One of your kind mentioned the name Zae'del. Tell me all you know, and I shall allow you to run from this place. Free from the wrath of my Lord." Utilizing his sly tongue [Deception F] to try win the creature over.

The remaining monster would peer at Aleris, comprehending his words before looking at Edwin with fear. It would answer the first question, #“Our numbers stem into the hundreds and are constantly growing. Monsters stronger than me.#” it hissed.

The next question it refrained from asking,“#A death by your lord would be much more blissful than dying to Zae’del. I’d rather your dark ones shadows drag me under.#” it screeched at the mage before looking towards Aureliana. The heat of her flames causing the monster to squeem in the tentacle wrapped firmly around it.

“#Flamebringer#” it hissed at the red haired woman. If the monster had hair it would surely be sticking up. In its mind it contemplated what was worse. Its mind turning to brain goop for hours on hours or a swift death from the people standing before him. It was a no-brainer, in fact too easy to make. The monster would open its jowls and look at Aleris, this time speaking the few words it knew in common.

“Fak……u…”

The monster stuck to what it knew, seeing what Zae’del was capable of. Whatever the pending saviors of Ozyrn did would be considered a merciful death.

[”You’re an interesting one Yume, casually just knocking on my mental door without a gift?”] the fae could feel the lips of the monster curving in her mind.

[“Alas, I am a curious creature and I forgive you. Your presence is a present after all! What would you like to know? How to find me? What I want? How to Destroyyyy me?”] the monster mocked, [Everything has a cost of course! I barter in knowledge and memories! You see, me and you are alike my darling Yume! Here’s a freebie of knowledge! By consuming that monsters memories you linked us together! Haha isn’t that marvelous! The people said I was selfish but I just gave away free knowledge!”] the monster laughed in her mind.

[“Now stop the dilly dallying and meet me at the church! You already know where I reside, why wait! You must save Ozryn for the sake of that person you call Lord nibbly? I can’t wait to lay eyes on you all. Don’t keep me waiting long Yumeeeeee”] it mocked her before disappearing.

“The church it is then, we should make our way with haste. It doesn’t seem like our prisoner doesn’t want to talk either.” Virgil would look into the sky and see flying creatures making their way over to the church, foreshadowing what’s to come.

“Seems like we aren’t the only ones heading there either. It’s a complete shit show here.” He would brush his hand through his head as he assessed the monster infested town.

The travel towards the town center felt oddly vacant, the destroyed houses seeming empty of all monsters. Almost as though all the monsters in the town retreated to the center of town.

The church would come into vision and aside from the monsters perched atop its highest spires and lined outside, it would truly be a marvel of architecture.

“Expected, seems Zae’del didn’t spare a single monster.”

wBKaty5.jpeg

The grunts lined the front, three times the number there were at the beginning of town. Each of them, sounding off monstrous cries as the group came into view. There were also larger variants, that seems much stronger, however there were only three that stood there.

”Zae’del asks Yume and Lord nibbly come peacefully or Grok, Grik, and Gris slaughter Yuke and lord nibbly friends. Grok hungry, so answer grok quickly.

The monster would extend its arm out, exposing the sharp spines on its elbow. As it flexed its forearm the spine would protrude and sharpen into a thick blade, capable of tearing what it wanted into ribbons.

Looking back, flying monsters lined the buildings on top, should the group decide to run. They had a choice, go in peacefully or swinging.

“Dealing with monsters isn’t an option. I’d rather die here.” He looked towards Edwin and Aleris should they get any wise ideas. His gaze would turn to Yume. “I fear his desire with me stems from my father, though I’m not sure why he’d want you as well. Even though we just met and you gave me a horrid nickname. I wouldn’t offer you up on a platter.” He relayed to Yume, before turning to Aureliana.

“Those Solari flames would be pretty useful right now.” He’d nod at her as they faced down the impending fight.

“Grok want answer, live or food. What choice!” He roared and the night crawler grunts echoed, reciprocating its cry

SCREEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aleris gives no hints of his emotion as he looks down upon the restrained creature. The moment he says 'Fak u' to the group, he steps on it's throat. Putting his weight on it and watching as the monster struggles to breathe until it has no light left in its beady horrid eyes. As the beast struggles for its final breathes, Aleris looks towards the group and replies to Virgil's comments.

"You are mostly correct. It believed death at our hands would be a pittance compared to death at the hands of his master. Though it did say one thing of note. There are hundreds of these creatures. And many of them much larger and stronger than these. Impossible to say if it is boasting or being truthful, but it is useful information none the less." He relayed, only moving his foot from the creature's neck when it stopped struggling for its life.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Aleris kept himself in the center of the pack as they moved through the town. While the moment was more quiet, he turned to Aureliana, saying "To finally answer your previous suggestion, I would gladly teach you abyssal in exchange for knowledge of the flames. I learned it long ago from my Lord. The language he speaks must be one I understand, of course." He says with a wide and friendly smile. "I adore learning. Although it is what i've spent most of my life doing. Maybe I simply don't have enough experience to know otherwise." He adds with a light chuckle.

Aleris' expression becomes more serious at the appearance of a second wave of these beasts. The three larger of them, being most notable. "Seems the captive was not being entirely untruthful." He listens to Virgil state plainly that he does not intend to give himself up, nor Yume. An understandable, slightly noble, but damning decision.

"We should not consider the options given to us be the only options available." Aleris says quietly enough for the group to hear but hoping that he is not so loud that the creatures hear. He continues, "Perhaps if Aureliana can hold off their advance with her flames, perhaps we can move into one of the buildings along this road to fight from a fortified position." He suggests, standing at the ready to move or cast, whichever is most needed in the moment.

A cruel smirk extended from ear-to-ear as Edwin watched the Arcane Bolt of his shield simply tear through the fleeing creature. “A coward’s death. So… miserable and fitting.” The rumbling words, tinged with a mix of amusement and sarcasm, escaped the openings of his helmet.

“Hmph, what use would that have?” The baronet sneered at Yume’s suggestion of delivering a threat to the monster leader, not caring even a bit to the fact that she had just vomited. “Best for it to learn about what foolish mistake it made in person, as I stick my gauntlet in their core…” Edwin’s gauntleted hand, with the shield affixed to his arm, darted forward. Clawed fingers pierced the air in a singular, violent motion. “... and pull its guts out. I wonder how long it will live without its innards.” The promise of ultimate violence, laid bare and spoken. The dark knight was certainly enjoying this, at the expense of the dead.

With a deliberate slow motion, the baronet’s hand reached his fixtures of his helmet. Unlatching them, he removed the protective headgear.

Edwin-no-helmet.png

And, crossing his arms, his pale, azure eyes looked at the interrogation of the tentacle-bound demon with mild amusement. He had not a single clue about Abyssal, the language being used there, but that didn’t lessen his amusement. “So, they are at the church in the center of the town?” Asking, his eyes slid towards Yume, the faintest of smiles gracing his cold lips. “Amusing. As usual, they try to desecrate whatever it is seen as holy. What pedantic fixation.” With an airy wave of his gauntleted, his amused expression shifted to a boorish one. “Want to wager on how likely it is that they are performing some sort of ritual in there? A few bound villagers, their blood ready to be spilled as sacrifices.”

And, as Aureliana set herself to make the tentacle-bound demon to talk, bringing her flame close to it, Edwin let out an audible “Hmph.” In scoff, but said added nothing to it.

As the prisoner was promptly dispatched when its usefulness came to an end, the baronet began following the others towards the center of the town. With each heavy footstep, his armor shifted slightly, the metallic sounds of the protective layers clinked together. Taking a moment to survey the adjacent destroyed houses and buildings, he did notice the absence of the monstrous opposition. “Ah, yes. The fool tries to barricade itself with their demonic numbers. Would that be a sign of desperation of this Zae’del? Or simply monsters being monsters?” He added to question to the baron’s commentary.

With the group being stopped by the three large monsters, ones there were slightly proficient at Common, Edwin’s eyes narrowed. “Oh my, look at that. It is almost like seeing a mongrel or mangy beast mutter a few words.” Whatever amusement was still present on the dark knight’s face disappeared. His lips became flat, eyebrows furrowing slightly. “I see the ‘sins of the father’ do end up catching their progeny, isn’t that right, baron Novalume?” During his question, his eyes remained locked onto the three large demons.

“Digging deep into their back and pulling out their spine would be the best plan in dealing with these curs.” Edwin didn’t even use a lower register to say that, caring little if the demons had heard him or not. “But what is the fun in having my shadows consume them so readily, so promptly? Choose your move and I will support it… for now.”

AURELIANA
[The Kingdom - Ozryn] What goes bump in the night
The interrogation went more or less how Aureliana expected it to go with the end result being death but not without some useful information. She extinguished her flames by closing her fist, figuring it would be a waste of her own energy to charr the already dead monster. Now that their new point of interest was the church at the center, she shifted her weight to one foot and began to follow the rest of her companions through the town. “Hm. Yes, that would make sense.” She murmured to Aleris as they resumed their conversation as if nothing had happened a minute ago. “Perhaps when time allows us we can exchange knowledge…”

Stopping ways away from the church, the pyromancer frowned slightly at the sight of more reinforcements. It was beyond her as to why the so-called Zae’del only requested to meet with Virgil and Yume but a burning passion within her wanted to prevent that from happening. She offered Aleris a sideways glance upon hearing his suggestion. Splitting up the group was less than ideal, therefore a more tactical approach as suggested by her fellow robed friend was worth considering. Her gaze then switched over to Virgil, a momentary flutter could be felt in her chest at his words before turning back to look at the impatient monsters.

“Under your command, it will be so.”

Taking a step forward, Aureliana knelt down with her palms to the ground, a bright glow emanating from the sunfire topaz adorned on her forehead. She then shifted her hands, outstretching her arms wide and then raised them upward in one fluid motion. A wall of fire followed her practiced movements, the heat could be felt on both sides and the bright flames illuminated the otherwise darkened town.

Rising back to her feet, Aureliana turned to the rest of her group. “Let’s find a suitable vantage point then. Before they start to learn and adapt — or use their own to cut through.”

“A monster possessing psychic abilities, intellect, and craves knowledge.I read it in his notes. Does that sound familiar?”

Yume threw him a sassy look. "Hm... are you implying something?" That hit a little too close to home, actually. Yume was no stranger to being called a monster by people who'd lost memories, even if said accusations had no idea it was her they were accusing. Her voice maintained a playful tone, despite this.

...at least, until that key phrase struck her mind. 'Me and you are alike.' And to the outside observer, Yume's expression switched on a dime, with no clear cause. Sure, there was the little imp being tortured, but the timing didn't line up.

In any case, the voice had a certain irritating tone of constant mockery, which deeply irritated h— wait a second...huh. Well, Yume had time to self-reflect later, this was way more important. For now, they were moving in the right direction, and that was enough. On the other hand, she grew rather defensive as Edwin described his intent.

"A demonic ritual sounds about right for this place..." she answered, her silly tone having given way to an absentminded 'default answer' one typically gave when their thoughts were elsewhere.

As they drew closer to the church, the sheer number of enemies became apparent. Was it even clearable? Maybe. Edwin was extraordinarily strong, and the others were far from deadweight. And yet, the more she thought of it, the less concerned she became with them, to be replaced with concerns of Edwin (and the others, frankly). She'd been in this world so long, truly alone, to be remembered by no one, and now here was the first chance in an eternity to find answers. Was it worth leaving a mass-murderous monster alive for that? Any sane person ought to say no, but...

... When the giant, creepy beast made the call, she answered, dashing forward before the wall of flames separated them. Maybe it was suicide. Maybe, abandoning them with so many monsters, she'd just condemned them all to die. Maybe she'd simply become mind food for something horrific. But she needed answers, and she wasn't about to let dark knight man rip them away.

"Sorry, but I can't join the fight this time," Yume called behind her over the flaming wall, with an earnest, solemn voice. "I hope you survive. I just can't let you take this chance away from me. To finally know what I am. Please don't hate me too much... if you even can."

With those words, she ran off toward the church, leaving the others to fend for themselves.

Virgil Mortier Novalume

Titles: Mundane Human, Moon-blessed vampire, Baron of Novalume

The monsters would squirm violently as Aleris put his boot into its neck, though with the restraints tightly wrapped around it. The monster would have no chance of escaping. Seconds passed and its attempts to break free would grow weaker. The lack of oxygen sapped any strength the monster possessed. Life would slowly escape its grasp as the nightcrawler fell into an endless slumber, the bit of air escaping its lungs in a long breath.

The monsters that faced the group seemed to grow restless as an answer had yet to be decided, eerily creeping closer and closer. Making their advancement ever so subtle with every passing second, but they weren't any less vocal. Drool dripped from their mouths as they saw the food that stood before them; they had been made aware of their guests and their abilities. Eager was the right word to explain their expressions, curious to see what lies in the minds of the group.

Edwin's comment about the monsters bunkering down in the church earned him a laugh from Virgil, "The situation seems rather ironic, doesn't it, Dark one? I wouldn't say desperation is the proper word. Maybe we should feel honored that he doesn't want to take us lightly? Concerned that they shifted tactics once he examined our initial battle strength as a group?" Virgil pondered on the question proposed. "Monsters possess a multitude of tools at their disposal, but organization isn't a common one."

Grok stood much taller than the other monsters along with the two who shared his resemblance, Edwin's usual arrogant deamenor would fade as he sharpened his senses. "It seems so, it’s already worse than I imagined and we've yet to meet Zae'del. Even so, as the current Baron Novalume. I must bear the sins of those before me." he'd turn to Edwin with a smirk as he put his two cents in on how they should proceed.

"This, perhaps, might be one of the few things we agree on Dark one."

Virgil would turn to Aleris with a nod, agreeing with him as well. "Perhaps we can, even if the flames don't hold them off for long. Weakening their forces would provide each of us with a fighting chance. But oddly enough, out in the open might be our best bet.” His gaze would drop to Aureliana, who would be at the forefront of this plan, her decisiveness in the plan earning a smirk from Virgil.

"Then it's decided, we dwindle their ranks from afar with our ranged advantage. Edwin is a specimen in his own right, as long as he is nearby I doubt any of them would be able to make it close." He'd watch as Aureliana stepped forward and placed her hands on the ground, as the magic power swelled in her body. The monsters would roar, coming to life aggressively as the grunts charged forward violently, followed by Grok.

The wall of fire would begin to roar to life in a beautiful, controlled inferno of magic, its flames sending a heatwave towards both the group of humans and monsters. However before the group could find the wall at full strength, Yume would be on the other end of it.

"YUME! Do you have a death wish?!" he called out to her over the blazing flames, confusion in his eyes as he looked at the drillhead. Her words chilling to the bone, the sting of betrayal strong. Receiving a knife in the back so soon hurt, even though they had known each other for a short time.

The horde was right on top of Yume within an instant, he was sure she'd be eaten alive in that moment. The last thing they would all see before the wall of fire went up is Yume's hair bouncing up and down as she made her way to the church. There was no time to focus on it, the monsters were now ontop of them and were pounding at the wall of fire. Some managed to get through, but not without their whole body set ablaze in a burning fire.

piLd0Xj.png

The sea of monsters would part, running past the Fae and paying her no mind. Granting her access to the church with little to no interference.

The inside of the church was equally as disgruntled as the outside, broken glass, wood, and stone littered the insides as Yume entered. Statues of the Valcori stood along the walls, but cracks splintered their stone carvings, displaying a dystopian tone to the carvings.

["You've made an excellent choice, my friend Yume. Your friends will be consumed by the horde shortly. Their minds will provide great nourishment."] Zae'del's voice would boom in her head with unparalleled clarity.["You also seek the purpose for your existence. Answers.”]

An elevated stage sat at the center of the room, providing a grand view for all to see. Along with a figure crouching upon a seat made of rubble.

TGbr1jd.jpeg

Zae’Del

”We meet at last my friend, it’s very nice to lay physical rose on you. I am Zae’del.”His physical voice came out much more gruff and malicious compared to through the bond.

“I’ve opened up your file. Suffering seems to be your life long friend. Finding no peace even in death.”He responded, his smile vanishing as he stood to his full height of 6’8. “I’m sorry to hear your travels have been…gruesome.” His voice sounded genuinely empathetic for a moment as he took a step closer. His clawed feet crushed dirt and debris as he stepped closer to the Fae.

“To be forgotten is true death. As we speak, the memories youve created fighting alongside Lord Nibbly are rapidly fading. How does it feel? Knowing that you vanish from the minds of those you come into contact with? Never truly being able to forge connections? Genuine curiosity would fill the bond as he proposed the question.

“I say we are friends because you have little effect on my memories. If no one will remember you. I will” He’d point a sharp finger at his head. “All shall be revealed on the grand stage once the one you call Lord Nibbly is here.” His lips would curl into a grin.

“Would you like to watch your friends be decimated? I will answer any questions you have to the best of my ability.” He’d sit at the edge of the stage as he stared into the distance. He was physically present but his mind was absent. Focused on what was transpiring outside.

“We need to put some distance between us before they reach the wall. Virgil relayed, opening his Grimoire as it flipped through the pages.

“In the darkness of the night, I call upon the goddess Elaras power. Use my body as a vessel and as your blade to vanquish those who threaten the Valcori.

He chants before his body glowed a bright light, before extending his palms out. The light enveloping him would then compress into a fine light point before releasing a beam of energy. Virgil would aim at the weak foundation of the building to his left then sweep it across to the building on his right. Both of the structures would shudder before collapsing fully, creating a blockade. Planks would roll into the fire allowing it to grow to new heights and extending its range and intensity. [+1 effectiveness to fire wall]

“That should buy us time, we pull back for now then pick them off slowly.” He’d respond as he hastily backed away from the wall of flames. Behind them in the distance, a damaged tower stood. “We can assume our position there.” He’d turn and run with haste, however there were some earlier visitors, making their presence known.

SCREEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The elites would step through the fire wall, their skin setting ablaze. They were inconvenienced by the fire but not to the same degree as the grunts.
Faces with the wall of rubble, they’d climb to the top before looking down. Their gaze pointed at the group of four. They were all in [Barely Hurt] condition. Grok licking his lips as his eyes glosses over his next meal, the man known as Edwin. As the monster crashed into the ground, he created a shockwave.

He pointed a gnarled finger at him “strongest human? Grok feel own shadow crawl from time before now and now.” The monster would flex its hands and the spines that clung to them would sharpen. He’d lift his hand high before bringing it crashing down onto Edwin [D Grade attack +Knockback, +Quake.] Should Edwin block or counter the attack, the residual force from the strike would create a small crater around both Edwin and Grok.

A shockwave of wind would hit Aleris, Aureliana, and Virgil, sweeping them off their feet and knocking the three prone. Virgil would scurry to raise his head, trying to assess the field. From the distance he would see the other two raising their arms up. The spikes one their forearms loosening up before the swiped hard at the air. Projectiles would soar through the air like artillery and would strike them should nothing be done.

[2x F grade Ranged basic attack]

Shortly another Elite would leap into the air, crashing a short distance behind Grok.

“Gris eat Flamebringer.” The monster replied with a wide grin. Upon closer inspection, its body having recieved much more damage. Clearly it had [Seen better days] however it was long from out of the fight.

[Combat has begun, basic rules. 3 actions rounds.]

The fire wall was successfully erected and even fortified however not at the loss of Yume whom abandoned the group.

Yume enters the church unscathed and encounters Zae’del who is observing the battle transpire from afar.

As the party tried to put some distance between themselves and the monsterous hoard approaching. The elites scaled the pillar of fire, taking some damage but still standing tall.

Grok attacks Edwin with a [D grade attack+ Knockback + Aoe+ Quake]. The shockwave created from the attack would knock the Aureliana, Aleris, and Virgil prone. [They will need to take a turn to get up.]

Gris and Grel send flying projectiles toward Aureliana, Aleris, and Virgil flying their direction. [2x F grade attacks]

Gris closes the distance with a leap, landing about 10 feet away from Grok and 20 ft away from Aleris, Aureliana, and Virgil.

It seemed that Edwin and Virgil's opinions converged in quite many points. Perhaps this half-breed wasn't that bad after all. It made him smirk.

And, as the flamewall had been erected by the pyromaniac, his azure eyes caught the white-blur, crossing it. "Hmph, so there is where your loyalty lies after all." His tone didn't change in the slightest: there was neither worry about the Fae's well-being nor anger to what could be considered betrayal. After all, he had never expected her aid to begin with. In fact, he didn't want it. "You sound surprised, baron. Fae are trash, not that different from the monsters right in front of us. Rare are the exceptions." The corner of his lips curled upward, in sheer vileness. "Before the day is over, I will have her head on my lance as a trophy." Not a threat, but a goal.

Now, with the situation having shifted, Edwin would rather that the group would make their stand then and there, rather than retreating to a more advantageous position, but he was willing to follow the plan. The building collapsing, on top of the scorching wall, would probably have been able to buy them a few seconds, if only for them to move to the better position. But it seemed to repositioning would not be allowed. Excellent, it was better that way.

His azure orbs watched as the demon climbed the wall and, as it jumped down, the shockwave made the dark knight's crimson cape billow behind him. "Oh? The beast make its move..." With narrowing eyes, Edwin made his move. The obsidian shield glinted under the light, the crimson eyes on the skull embossed on it began to glint, with a rich, bright color. The baronet could feel himself being empowered by it, brutal, dark strength emboldening his very self. [Action 1]

And as the attack came to his direction, he would slam the end of his lance against the ground, the corrupt shadows shooting out to both try and stop the attack, possibly even destroying the incoming spikes being launched against the others. [Action 2/3] After all, he needed the baron alive, at least until his reward had been received.

AURELIANA
[The Kingdom - Ozryn] What goes bump in the night
Frustration bubbled up at the sudden change of plans from Yume. Aureliana wore a frown as she casted a glance over her shoulder, knowing that only the flames knew of the young woman’s fate beyond the wall. In their current situation, however, time was not to be spent mourning the potential loss of a companion. “Let us move then,” she said once Virgil fueled her flames with the crumbling walls of a lost building. She ran alongside him, ensuring he was positioned in the middle where he could be protected by either side. What would be the point in carrying out this mission if their employer died after all?

Her gaze fixated on the tower he had pointed as their destination but a sudden shockwave sent the pyromancer forward and off her feet. She let out a small groan in pain from the impact, tiny bits of rubble stuck to her palms and clung to her fiery hair. Aureliana lifted her head up slowly, looking over her shoulder for the source of the shockwave and her eyes widened at the sight of airborne spikes whistling towards them. “Baron Novalume!” The urgency in her voice was clear as she threw herself over him and extended her hand outwards towards the projectiles. At her demand, flames spread across her palm and shot out in a wave large enough to shield both of them as well as Aleris in an attempt to deflect the spikes.

The plan seemed to be going swimmingly. The blazing barricades putting plenty of space between the group and the creatures that threaten them. Though when one of the group abandoning them is the least troublesome thing to occur since, it clearly has not gone well. Aleris lay prone, knocked to the ground by the auxiliary force dealt by these larger demon's attacks. A dreadful case, as his one set of robes are no doubt now filthy. The least of his true concerns though, as projectiles are making their way toward him. Aureliana's flames look well conjured and capable of handling the assault. Though Aleris does not wish to take chances. Instead, while still prone, he rolls to his right. Roughly ten feet away to take cover and break line of sight behind some debris. A pile of stone, wood, and rubble that no doubt was torn from one of the many buildings along the same side of the road.

Once there he pushes himself up to his feet, still bent down behind the pile. kneeling low, and contemplating his next move. Edwin no doubt has his hands full, but Aleris bares no doubt in the knight's ability to handle the large demon. The two behind it are what Aleris is more concerned with. He peers out from behind the improvised cover, planning his counter attack on these beasts.

1. Aleris rolls behind a pile of rubble
2. Aleris gets up from prone to a kneeling position

Yume didn't feel bad about this. She definitely, definitely didn't feel bad about this. As she left the hot flame wall and trudged into the sea of monsters, it felt like all kinds of mistakes were being made. Maybe even a fatal one.

Honestly, she was prepared to get swarmed the moment she was separated, but that didn't happen. This was what she'd expected: after all, a psychic that powerful would have his little minions' appetite under control. So he did. She continued on, without so much as a single bite being attempted. That was one small comfort in a deep ocean of icky feelings that, try as she might, she just couldn't shake.

It only got worse, as she timidly peeked into the church, knowing there was some sort of powerful thing in there. "What a mess..." she complained as she slowly stepped inside. It didn't take her long to notice the giant man, if man was even the right word for him, atop a pile of rubble. She had to crane her neck to meet his eyes, and he wasn't even standing yet! It was as ominous as it was bothersome.

"Yume," she replied to the surprisingly courteous, and completely unnecessary, introduction. Well, she wasn't eaten yet, so that was a good sign. "Lemme be clear: even if you can remember me, and I've heard that wishful lie a lot before, that doesn't make us friends. We have to share at least some special interests, like... you know... not eating people. That's easily one of my top ten hobbies." It was hard to be as bold as usual, feeling like a rabbit in front of a fox, but she wouldn't be Yume if she didn't at least try.

She began pacing around, mostly to try and calm the nerves, causing her hair to boing around like a pair of springs. "You probably already figured it out, but I'm only here because I have a question to ask without Shadow McStabsalot rushing straight for your head. I thought it was pretty simple to answer, but all the answers I ever get are vague, or confused, or cheeky, or unsatisfying. So..." she stopped and stared up at Zae'Del.

"What am I?"

Grok and Gris

From the shockwave, shadows would erupt in a violent plume, consuming everything nearby. The black depths of Edwin's power would spare only his teammates. A surprised look would appear on Grok's face as he found that the knight was able to properly defend against its attack. The necrotic damage dealt by the shadows would claim Grok's right arm; what remained would be a receded stump along with a silhouette of sickly gray skin that remained on his torso. The spikes that had adorned most of its body were damaged, bent in every direction, or nonexistent. A sickly purple liquid would seep from its gaping mouth, trailing across the floor[Natural Armor Destroyed][On Death's Door]. Gris would also not get out of this unscathed, taking far less damage compared to Grok, still retaining its limbs. However the its once purple skin would now attain a sickly gray color as the necrotic damage ran its course.

The sharp spikes that were heading towards Virgil, Aureliana, and Aleris's way would be reduced to nothing in the face of Edwin's darkness, granting the group a moment to regain their footing.

"Grok Impressed by Strongest human!" The monster roared, the smile on his face returning as he prepared his next attack. It was clear that Critical damage had been sustained however, the monster would ignore the pain. Perhaps, not even being able to feel pain at all. From where Grok had landed, both the monster and Edwin would fit themselves in a 40 ft radius half sphere pit. The monster's left arm would extend like a slinky, its sharp claws secreting a purple liquid as it attempted to swipe at the Dark Knight, followed by a powerful kick from below. [E grade ability + E grade basic attack]

"If Grok doesn't eat dark man, Gris will," Gris replied with an annoyed gurgle as he turned to Edwin's teammates.

Virgil would feel himself hit the ground hard from the earlier shockwave, pain would streak through his back and shoulders. The baron would bite his tongue as he tried to get about his wits and keep his eyes on the enemy. In the cloud of dirt, he would hear his name called out before being tackled by a ball of red. The noble hit the ground once again, but this time, finding himself in the partial embrace of Aureliana. He would gaze up at her, but his eyes would only see the deep sea of red draped over his vision. The sweet smell of her shampoo tickled his nose, distracting the baron slightly as he froze for a moment.

"Thank you for that." He’d responded, a bit in shock as he tried not to be a deer in headlights as he reached across for his Grimoire to the side.

Aureliana's attempt to throw a wall up would succeed, as it protected her teammates but angered Gris. The monster would raise its spiky arm and swipe across the ground[F-Grade Ability], sending rock and debris hitting the flames and dwindling the flames of Solari enough for it to pass by without sustaining too much damage. Fire would cling to its body, charring the creature's skin black[On Deaths Door]. However, its expression seemed devoid of any pain being received, as it shot an arm out towards Aleris, aiming to wrap its arm around the rapture mage[E-grade Grapple] before aiming its free hand at Aureliana and shooting a shard in her and Virgils direction. [F-grade Ranged ability]

"Annoying Human." It grumbled.

Zae’Del

Zae’del would laugh at Yumes response, “You humor me. You speak as though you didn’t devour the mind of my minion earlier today. It’s the only reason why we are bonded. My soldiers and I feast on bodies whole while you feast on minds.”It held its gaze forward as he focused on what was transpiring.

“This dark knight is rather powerful, even my generals are having trouble discarding his shadows. Such power.” The monster would stroke its chin with its sharp claws before. There wasn’t a shred of stress on his body. It was as though Zae’del was pondering his move like a chess player. That was when Yume proposed her big question that the monster would give her its full attention.

“What a fascinating question to ask a monster.” Zae’del would gaze into the Fae’s eyes. It’s purple orbs meeting her gold ones.

“The world requires order, a natural flow of its energy. However, at this moment, the scales are tipped, causing an imbalance. From this imbalance, abominations are birthed. Possessing an innate desire to disrupt the natural order.”

Zae’del would give the moment a pause as it looked into the desperation that lay in Yume's eyes.

“Your psychic abilities are true, but it seems as though they come at a heavy price. You don’t last in the minds of others, you’re an abomination actively being rejected by the world itself. That’s why it feels difficult for you to find your place.” it responded bluntly before extending its hand out for Yume, its large hands eclipsing the woman 3x over.

“However, just because the world is rejecting you doesn’t mean you have to go along with it. You can overcome it. I also seek answers, there’s a reason why I requested that moon-blessed alongside you.”

Yume didn't flinch as their eyes crossed. Maybe felt a little unnerved, but she wouldn't flinch. That question was everything; the answer, what she'd been seeking for years. If there was even a chance he had it, she had to know.

"I wouldn't be surprised if you tried to lie," she answered his musings. "But if you do, at least make it convincing," Yume added, as she awaited the response.

What she got was... something. A little unspecific, but it lined up with her experiences pretty well. "So I'm the world's abandoned chaos baby?" she summarized the gist of it. That'd certainly explain why the spirit realm had wanted absolutely nothing to do with her.

"See, I was kind of hoping for an answer like: 'You're a magic princess from the Land of Forgetia, and if you visit the big shrine there, you'll find a spooky memory demon to defeat, freeing you from your horrible memory curse~!' Nothing like that?" Wishful thinking...

"Besides, I don't have any sort of desire to 'disrupt the natural order' or anything like that! I'm only interested in... uhm...... well........." ...conquering a nation through mass memory alteration, exploring the boundaries of mental manipulation, turning that nasty spirit world to smoke and ashes (Blobby excluded), "...normal special girl stuff." Maybe it was a better answer than she'd initially thought.

For a long moment, Yume stared at the hand claw, before she finally curled up a hand and gave him a soft 'fistbump' of sorts. The difference in physical strength was pretty astonishing: like a marshmallow on steel. "I will overcome it, it's only a matter of when and how."

Stepping back, she paused a moment, then shrugged, "Anyway, I don't really want you dead, despite your disturbing diet, but if it looks like Shadowlord Darkspear and the others are about you kill you, at least let me eat you. There's no point in letting all the delicious mind juice go to waste." There wasn't a shred of self-awareness in the irony of Yume's words. "Actually, I guess I'll just eat whoever's about to lose. Their minds all looked pretty full and... uhm..." she trailed off, "...I just wouldn't want to be wasteful."

The beast seemed focused on Virgil and Aureliana. And ideal circumstance for Aleris as he stands up from behind his opportunistic cover to take aim at the advancing enemy. He slowly lifts his left arm skyward. His fingers cackling and surging with energy. Before he suddenly thrusts it forward, toward Gris, and flings a bolt of electric energy directly at the creature. The sounds of the lightening flying through the air reverberates against the buildings. Loud, almost deafening cracks. Aleris stands firm, confident that so long as his aim is true, this bolt will push the beast back. If it doesn't outright slay it.

"Virgil! Aureliana!" Aleris roars intently. "Come to cover!" He gestures with his hand, pulling it closer to him to indicated for them to join him behind the pile of rubble. A move of pragmatism in the end. The thought of using his Eldritch Lash to deal more lasting and targeted damage to the beast had entered his mind first. Though his Thunderous Bolt has a chance of giving his compatriots an opportunity to get into a more defensible position. And their loss presents various obstacles. Not only in increasing the difficulty of this mission; one which he highly desires to be compensated for. But also because he truly does wish to learn more about these Solari flames.

Seeing the results of his attack, Edwin threw his head back, letting out a loud, rumbling, chilling and rich laughter. “It seems I went a little too… overboard, hm? Well, no matter, the sooner I’m done with you, and your friends, the sooner I can eviscerate that white-haired pest.” His lips stretched, his perfect pearly-whites being shown. “Of course you are impressed, demon. My patron far surpasses you and your leader.” With a smug expression still on his face, he looked over his shoulder towards the other three, more specifically, towards Virgil and Aureliana.

“You two taking a nap? Snuggling in the middle of a ruined town? Planning to fuck amongst the debris of the fallen buildings?” His voice bellowed, each word dripped with sarcasm, his eyes narrowing, looking at them through the wall of flames. And then, returning his attention to Grok, the dark knight shrugged. “I guess it must be rutting season for some.” He chuckled in silent amusement. “Anyway, let’s continue…”

And, from a moment to the other, his expression returned to neutral once again. Edwin would meet the sharp claws head on, attempting to strike it with the shield on his left hand [Action 1]. The ruby eyes of the embossed skull gleamed under the light, as if staring at the creature with silent intensity.

Instantly, after his coiled arm shoot the shield against the claw, the baronet’s right arm would be thrusting towards incoming leg, the three-pronged tip seeking to skewer the demon at the height of its knee [Action 2]. Lastly, the Edwin would follow up by moving his right hand forward, turning the lance quickly to slam the end of the shaft against Gork’s face. [Action 3]

AURELIANA
[The Kingdom - Ozryn] What goes bump in the night
With her flames keeping the spikes at bay, Aureliana let out a relieved sigh and turned her head to look down at the one she was protecting. “Of course. It would not be ideal if —” The pyromancer paused, turning her head to look towards Edwin as he called out to the two of them. She was silent for a moment, her mind processing his words slower than usual. Turning back to look at Virgil, her face reddened, nearly matching the color of her own hair as she realized the position she had put herself in. “M-My sincerest apologies—!” Aureliana stuttered out.

Before she could push herself away from the baron, her attention was pulled to the lumbering monster as he pushed past her flames. Her eyes flickered briefly over to Aleris, his quick thinking providing an opportunity for the two of them to recover. Wordlessly, she hooked an arm underneath Virgil’s shoulder, pushing herself up to her feet and assisting him up as well. “Quickly!” She urged him towards Aleris, following right behind to take cover.

The monster would smile sadistically, “You have leader too? Human is minion like Grok.” The monster would begin to laugh as well, “Grok and Human soldiers on game board.” Its life was hanging on by a thread, however it was enjoying every moment of clashing with Edwin. It would let out a blood curdling scream before running towards Edwin to engage in their final bout. Throwing its only fist out to strike, it would extend the spikes forward, in an attempt to skewer the Dark Knight[Basic attack E]. The dark knights lance would make light work of the attack, piercing through it with his unbridled strength, rendering his attack immobile. Defeat was eminent and the monster knew however it held its smile, excited that this was how it would meet its own demise.

Edwin danced with grace, transitioning into his next attack without wasted movement as he stabbed the monsters foot, stunning it in place for his next attack. The shaft of Edwin’s lance would cave the monster face in sending it towards the ground with a large thud as it fell.

[Grok has been defeated]

Power would crackle within Aleris’s body as he felt the heat of the lightning swell up before releasing the jolt of lightning. The threads of mana would wrap arounf Gris’s body, its muscles twitching from the nerve damage being delivered. The combined assault from Aurelianas flames and Aleris’s electricity would prevent the monster from releasing its projectile attack. The nerves in its arm had effectively been charred and vaporized from the combined attack.

It would huff an annoyed grunt as it turned its focus to Aleris, raising its arm high and turning it into an arm its comparatively better condition arm makeshift Morningstar. Its movement was sluggish as it willed its body throw out a final attack at Aleris.

Virgil Mortier Novalume

Titles: Mundane Human, Moon-blessed vampire, Baron of Novalume

Virgil would clear his throat, doing his best to be polite at the difficult situation they were in. Aureliana had made herself pretty comfortable as she casted her spell. It was that the Baron didn’t find her attractive, quite the opposite actually. However this wasn’t even remotely the place or time. Edwin would make his displeasure on the situation very known, and he wasn’t entirely wrong for voicing his opinion.

“It’s alright Aureliana.” He would reply to her with an earnest smile, trying not to fluster her anymore. Before rising to his feet, the Baron would retrieve his grimoire and channeled magic through it. He would call forth his spell once more, the book hummed with power before charging to Baron with light energy. The Moon-blessed vampire would stretch his arm forward before releasing his attack. The ray of light boaring a hole straight through the monsters back, effectively ending its life. Gris would stand stunned before it fell forward, crashing into the building Aleris was near. The destruction caused from the debris it crashed into would send the building into further collapse, burying it under rubble.

[Gris has been defeated]

“There is still one more out there, remember!” Virgil relayed to the others as he stepped into the rubble cover with Aureliana and Aleris. The third monster had been watching from afar, assessing their strength with his own eyes. Its head would lift in high as though it had been receiving a message before hissing in displeasure at Edwin. The monster would then turn and leap from the firewall, displeased.

Zae’Del

“You’re no match, you’re better off coming back. I have another job for you.” Zae’del would speak with displeasure at how his minions failed once again before turning to Yume.

“You seek answers but discard the truth. I pity you.” He’d reply with disappointment, “I’ve read your file like I said earlier. Wherever you walk, chaos follows. Yet you seem to deny the truth even though your history is laced with countless examples.” The monster hummed as Yume fist bumped him instead of grasping his hand. “Perahps, that’s why you suffer? Because you live in a world crafted by your own lies. Free to rewrite the truth because no one can remember.”

“You speak so freely as if dying is a possibility.” He’d laugh loudly at Yumes joke. “That dark knight commands great power but he is merely a pawn. Alas, if I were to fall you can devour me but would you be able to handle the indigestion I might cause.” His grin would sharpen.

The doors to the chapel would fly open with Grok entering in, it’s head lowered to the floor before kneeling in front of Zae’del.

“Thank you for being my eyes, a reward is in place for you.” He would smirk as he placed a hand on the monsters head. Grel’s body would begin to change. The monster that was immune to pain would feel let out blood curdling screems as its body mutated however Zae’del saw fit. Its skin blackening and twisting bones as it evolved before Yumes eyes.

“Now we wait for our guests to arrive.

Virgil’s expression was laced with confusion at the sight of the monster leaving? “Another retreat? I feel like Zae’del is toying with us at this point, or prodding at our strength. Whatever the case is we should tread forward while we have him on the ropes. Let’s not provide a moment for him to recuperate.” The Baron was over the antics and games that were being played. He would look up to the sky and even the monsters that had been advanced halted their own advance. There was no method to the madness going on, he would move forward with an attack then pull back. If was strange.

“We turn on the offensive here, what say you.” He turned to each of them, looking to harbor their opinions on the situation.

The baronet loomed over the demon’s body, his azure orbs looking at the fallen creature. “Minion, huh? Maybe. But some have longer, better strings than the others.” He said to himself, his index tapping against the shaft of his lance, the faint metallic pinging reaching his ears. And, slowly, Edwin felt the dark strength leaving him, no longer enhanced by the obscure forces. His eyes slid towards the last remaining creature, its hissing earned nothing more than a cruel grin tugging at his lips.

“Shriek and hiss all you want, your fate will be just the same.” The baronet’s voice was accompanied by a heavy stomp, aimed at the fallen demon’s face. The THUD of the sabaton against the ground mixed with the wet SLOSH as part of the skull was crushed, and its contents spilled out. And twirling his lance with a flourish, cleaning whatever remains that cling against it after his attacks against Grok, he turned to the others, stepping out of the crater he found himself in and walking towards them. “As expected, the vermin broke easily.”

“The vermin is possibly trying to buy himself time for something.”
He scoffed. "A useless attempt done in desperation. That demon's fate, along with every single inconsequent pawn that serves him is already sealed. No offer or appeasement will spare them from me." Edwin's tone carried a cold finality, his rumbling tone giving extra gravitas to each spoken word. "An all out offensive is the best at this point. No point skulking around corridors and trying to sneak: that is utterly beneath me."

And turning around once more, making his crimson cape billow behind him, his gaze was already set forward. "Try not to spend the next fight admiring the dirt. I’d rather not carry this slaughter alone." He scoffed, eager for even more blood.

Aleris Monferrat
Aleris stood ready to deal another blow upon the creature. Though Virgil's attack rendered such an action unnecessary. The tumble of the beast was nearly as hazardous as it had been. Aleris rushed away in Edwin's direction to avoid the falling Gris and any debris that might get stirred up by the collapsing building. "I appreciate your assistance." Aleris said to Virgil. Though sounding oddly insincere.

He listened to the suggestion of an all out offensive. As well as Edwin's obvious desire for it. Something he could have presumed to be true even without the knight's boasting. But the idea felt short sighted to Aleris. And he would make his opinion known.

"We thought the same after our first scuffle. Dispatching those creatures, and advancing. Only to be caught into a deeper trap with larger foes. They have attempted ambushes at every turn. These beings possess intelligence beyond what we might expect for those of their kind. Or at the very least this Zae'del possess enough to overcome their deficiencies." Aleris explained thoughtfully. "I will follow if we decide to move forward offensively, as our strength surely remains superior while we fight together." he paused, "But I must object. I feel almost certain that this is a feigned retreat. I've read of similar tactics used on the battlefield. We risk being surrounded if we advance too hastily." He turned his attention to Edwin, "Sir, considering your skill surpasses much of ours at this time, would you be opposed to taking a role as bait? Should you lead the charge, drawing the ire of the beasts that are surely ahead of us, you might give us the opportunity to pick off and attack additional creatures from behind while their backs are turned to the rest of us. Perhaps giving us the edge we need to be certain that every beast within this village is dispatched." He explained. Hoping that his reasoning was taken well by his contemporaries.

"…No match for what…?" Yume tilted her head, before realizing she was doing the equivalent of talking to someone who was on the phone. A very… strange and invisible sort of phone. "Oh. I thought you were doing a whole ‘look away monologue’ type thing."

Shrugging, Yume paced around a bit as they continued their exchange. "One thing I learned is, without the right memories in place, the truth may as well be a lie. So, in that sense, it’s not a world of lies I live, but the world of lonely truths." She glanced down thoughtfully. "Some I wish I could rewrite." Before glancing up again at a certain offer.

A look of horror crossed her face, as the previous flavors came to mind. "I’m sure I could handle it…" she lied. At least, Zae’del looked slightly less mindlessly flesh-hungry than his minion army. She couldn’t help but shiver at the thought of dark rituals and other such things, though.

"I-In any case, maybe you win and let them all live, then I don’t have to snack on anyone. I was kinda hoping for the other way around, but with Bloodthirst von Impaler, something tells me you’re the more merciful one. It means I guess I’m rooting for you, sorta." Yume shook her head slowly, unable to believe her own words. All the more, when the giant beast lumbered in and started screeching in agony. She plugged her ears waiting for it to end.

Yeah, Zae’del was definitely ‘indigestion’ material.

"Good boy…" she glanced up nervously, stepping back a few times in case his new form had a taste for beautiful fae ladies. "Anyway, I’ll go hide in a corner somewhere. As a neutral observer, I don’t wanna give them any funny ideas…" Yume explained, wandering off to hide behind some of the rubble of what appeared to be the collapsed stone of what once was a large column. "Don’t underestimate them. They have way stronger magic than you think," she called from across the room, readying her wand for emergency snacking purposes.
