You have recently completed the Jedi trials and have humbly discarded your Padawan title. Since then, you have remained on Tython and independently continued your training. During the past week a small group of Sith attacked two sites - just two of the places known to be soaked in the Force power that seems to come from the planet itself. While you were not directly involved in the defensive mission, you did aid in the recuperation of some of those you were involved. Late yesterday the fight was finished when the last Sith starship departed; there where no prisoners - the Sith either died in battle or sacrificed themselves in captivity. There was only one Jedi casualty, not someone you really knew, and a Padawan who disobeyed orders and fought had been driven insane.

You have been given a mission by a small group of Jedi Masters. Accordingly, there is a Sith deep in a temple ruin that rests on one of the battle sites. They want you to bring the Sith back to a clearing (that will act as a rendezvous) near the Jedi Temple. They are, of course, to be brought back with as little resistance as possible. You are given no more details.

What do you do?

 1. Head straight to the temple

 2. Research the temple in a library

 3. Talk to the insane Padawan

 4. Ask other Jedi about the temple

 5. Write in~

You make your way to the medibay to visit the Padawan driven insane by the battle. They're currently in a Force-induced sleep, kept calm in the limbo of a dreamless sleep. You approach the Jedi Healer on duty and explain that you have a mission regarding the recent battles and that you wish to speak with the padawan. She warns you not to agitate the patient and notes that they're in not much of a state to talk.

You enter the bay, seeing the padawan laying in bed and medical equipment beside them.

What do you do?

 1. Try to shake them awake.
 2. Use the Force to try mentally connect with them.

You concentrate on the flow of the Force within you and the feel of the Force flowing through the world around, just like your Master once taught you. It doesn't take long for you to locate the spot in the Force where the Padawan resides. From what you can feel, the Padawan is very scattered, incoherent and very, very frightened. No wonder they have gone insane - fear leads to the Dark Side after all.

Gently, you open up a connection to their mind. The open connection washes a gooey, rotten feeling into your own mind and you can feel the connection degrading even as you open it. You won't be able to remain connected for long, you're sure. But while the Force is holding there pair of you together, you should be able to learn something.

What do you do?

 1. Soothe the Padawan's fear.
 2. Relive the Padawan's battle.
 3. Learn the layout of the temple.
 4. Ask the Padawan's subconcious for help subduing Sith.

You've little time and you know what you most want to do while you're connected to the Padawan. Pushing and pulling the flow of the Force, you spend some time helping the Padawan through the fear, letting them feel it and discard the feeling.

When you return to your senses a while later you return to a Healer and explain what you did. They nod and bow their head in shallow meditation. When they open their eyes again, they tell you that they sense that the Padawan is now more peaceful in their coma. They thank you for your assistance and you feel glad that you helped, in even some small way.

Nonetheless, you still need to continue on your mission. You have a Sith to retrieve.

You head out to the temple, trekking your way through the forest to reach it. Eventually you find yourself at the main entrance to the ruins. Even without concentrating you can 'taste' something toxic-sweet emitting from the temple. The Dark Side is strong here, for reasons you can guess at. You enter the temple and follow a convenient hallway for a time before you come to a split.

The hallway goes a short way to the right before ending in an accessible looking door. To the left, the hallway continues and twists away before you can see where it ends.

Which way do you go?

 1. Turn left
 2. Turn right - listen at the door
 3. Turn right - open the door
 4. Turn right - barge through the door

You turn left and walk down the winding hallway for a time before it leads you to a tall room.

At the far end of the room is a large door with two pedestals either side of it. Each pedestal has an urn on top. Above the door is a plaque that reads:

Both hold a cycle for life, yet both can kill the other

The door looks incredibly sturdy and you can feel the Force that is reinforcing it.

You step inside, examining the room. You notice that, inside the bottom of one urn the surface looks blackened but the bottom of the other urn is spotless. In a corner near the entrance is a little oasis. There is a patch of lush grass and some small-breeds of foliage. The corner wall is partially broken by a thick root, along which streams a small, constant source of water that pools near the wall (and presumably drains off somewhere). Even just looking at the oasis is very calming.

What do you do?

 1. Try and open the door.
 2. Attack the door.
 3. Meditate at the oasis.
 4. Cleanse the blackened urn in the stream.
 5. Fill the blackened urn from the stream.
 6. Fill the clean urn from the stream.
 7. Leave - head to the right-hand turn.

You pick up the blackened urn and fill it with water from the stream. Once it's almost full, you lift it out of the stream, watching. You're about to put it back down on it's pedestal when you notice that there's steam rising from the water. The urn doesn't feel hot on the outside but inside it's clearly boiling away all the water within it. You watch as the very last drops evaporate into vapour.

Intriguing.

Looking into the bottom of the urn once more, you notice the blackened marks remain, as if they were sooty scars or something. You place the urn back where you got it from.

What do you do?

 1. Try and open the door.
 2. Attack the door.
 3. Fill the clean urn from the stream.
 4. Put some foliage in the clean urn.

You cut away some of the foliage from the small oasis and drop it into the blackend urn. Despite how lush the plants looked, they take little time in drying up and then combusting, causing a small fire in the bottom of the urn. Warm, bright lines glow across the urn, down the pedestal and across the door. However the door remains closed. After a few moments, the glow dulls and then fades - when you look inside the urn, you notice that the foliage has been completely burnt up.

At least you're getting somewhere.

What do you do?

 1. Try and open the door.

You fill the spotless urn with water from the stream and sit it back on it's pedestal. This urn glows to match it's twin: lines across the urn, down it's pedestal and onto the door. The door hums for a moment then twists open.

Beyond the doorway, there is another hallway. Along the edges continue the glowing lines - either side holds the distinct glow of it's corresponding urn - bright blue lines that flow like water head down one way and sparking orange lines that flicker like fire lead down the other way. A few meters along, the hallway ends in a T-shape and the different lines turn away from each other. The water-lines turn to the right and the burning-lines turn to the left.

Which path will you follow?

 1. The fire path
 2. The water path
 3. Return to the previous right-hand turn

You take one look at the doorway and hallway before you and decide to backtrack. What Sith would have the patience for such a task, after all?

You return to the original split and head towards the door down the right. Listening at the door, you think you hear movement. Not walking, but movement. Whether it's something that was placed in the temple or something that broke into the ruin, you can't say. Or perhaps it's your mind playing tricks on you.

How do you enter the room?

You cautiously push the door open, the Force at your fingertips and ready for anything. Thankfully, you see no obvious threats as you peek around the door. The room beyond is lined with many tomes - a wealth of knowledge that you could likely spend days in. Directly across from you, some of the shelves are knocked over and there's a short hole carved out of the wall. Creeping further inside, you see that there are two other doors in the room, both betray the glint of metal near them - they have some sort of plaque.

You head closer to each door so as to read their plaques. The first one reads:

Tombs align wherein which you stand
But more knowledge than that lies beyond this door
Had one only the idea that
Wisdom
And that
Knowledge
Are hand in hand brothers to truth

The second plaque reads:

The key to this door
Is the key to this tale
I am part of a body
But I am neither organic nor droid
I am a special weapon
But I am wielded by those born with weapons aplenty
I cause light
But I am not light
If you do hold me
Then you do not bear the right to venture
Through these sacred halls
The key is the heart

Below the plaque you notice a crystal-shaped crevice. The crevice is outlined by the above plaque.

What do you do?

 1. Crawl down the hole.
 2. Read some of the tomes.
 3. Try to open the first door.
 4. Try to open the second door.
 5. Try to figure out the meaning of the first plaque.

You concentrate on the second plaque. You can tell it has something to do with the crevice below, so likely the answer has something to do with a crystal. The riddle reminds you somewhat of the riddles your Master used to recite to you. There are a number of ways you could approach this riddle - you better play to your strengths.

You ponder over the words and their meaning, but you knew the answer right from the start. How could you not? The answer has been with you since you were a wee Padawan. You click open your lightsaber, gently tipping out it's crystal. In the crevice, you place the stone. There's a flux of energy that shimmers across the door next to the crevice then the door swings open away from you. Once the door is open, your crystal shudders out of place and - in a reflexive motion - you catch it before it can strike the ground. It's with subconscious, practised motions that you reassemble your lightsaber.

The corridor beyond is scored with burn marks along the walls and you can see one or two corpses of beasts in the area beyond. A few metres from the doorway, the floor of the corridor drops out for about two meters. Passed that, you can see another door at the end of the hallway, as well as a hole blown out of the right side of the wall.

[ Plus +1 to all mental attributes ]

What do you do?

 1. Cautiously head down the corridor, stopping before the floor drops out.
 2. Head up to the door at the end of the corridor, Force Jumping your way there.
 3. Read some of the tomes.
 4. Try to open the first door.
 5. Try to figure out the meaning of the first plaque.

You stride towards the doorway at the end of the corridor, using the Force to boost your way over the hole. Just as you feet lift from the ground, you feel a sickly-sweet wave of Dark Force power wash over you, stuttering your own connection with the Force. And messing up your jump. By the time you come back to your senses, you're already falling into the hole.

Thankfully the hole has no traps within it. In fact, you're not sure this hole was part of the original temple. You look upwards, evaluating how you'll get out of here. After just a moment of pondering, you hear a high-pitched but victorious voice exclaim;

"Ha!"

The sickly-sweet feeling of Dark Side ebbs closer, though now that you're prepared for it you can push the feeling away to a background itch.

What do you do?

 1. Prepare with some Force power buffs.
 2. Draw and ignite your lightsaber.
 3. Force Jump up out of the hole, towards the door.
 4. Force Jump out of the hole, back towards the room.

The Dark feeling comes closer and closer, making your gut churn in an unpleasant manner. Eventually you feel it come to a stop - you'd guess it's almost at the lip of the hole.

With almost no warning, a volley of Force Lightning comes from above - thankfully striking higher than where you stand hidden. The too-high pitched voice speaks once more;

"I have you trapped! Surrender and die!"

You find it curious that the Sith doesn't simply try and kill you outright. You stay quite, not responding and letting the Sith draw even closer. They approach the edge of the hole and you see their face for the first time - now you know why their voice was so curiously high-pitched. You were expecting a grown Sith but the Iktotchi that is peering down from above is but a teenager and a young teen at that.

The Sith squints into the gloomy depths of the hole.

What do you do?

 1. Use the Force to buff yourself.
 2. Draw and ignite your Lightsaber.
 3. Force Jump up at them and attack with the Force.

You channel the Force through you, stripping away your aura of Light, then stripping away your Force aura and then trying to strip away as much of your presence as you can. You won't know how well it works until it's tested, unfortunately. As you work, you notice the Iktotchi turn in your direction, squinting into the shadows in which you were hiding.

The Iktotchi remains looking in your general direction for a tense moment, before their face contorts in anger.

"Show yourself or face my wrath!"

The Sith throws their ignited lightsaber into your hole, throwing Force Lightning at the same time so that the lightning clings to the weapon as it bounces around the hole. Stray lightning discharges, helping light up the area and you concentrate on trying to hide your presence even further. The Sith looks incredibly angry, now.

 1. Remain concealed and quite.
 2. Remain concealed but call out to the Sith.

You unclip your lightsaber, holding it ready with your finger near the trigger. Witth he Force, you layer more cloaking over yourself, keeping your form hidden. Perhaps the Sith will just turn and leave? Or - well - the anger of the Sith is legendary. Perhaps they will do something unwise and leave you an opening to take advantage of.

You watch as the Sith peers around the whole once more before they let out an angry shout. They leap down into the hole and spin their lightsaber around the area - it is only thanks to some quick reflexes that you manage to jump over it as they flail about.

"Face me and die, scum!"

Well... you've sort of captured the Sith? You need to figure out how to get the Iktotchi back to the temple, now.

You look up at the edge of the hole - it's too high for you to jump under the power of just your muscles. You push yourself up with the Force instead, jumping up-

And the Iktotchi looks straight up at you.

"Hah!" they snarl victoriously and channel lightning up towards you.

You manage to divert most of the electricity with your lightsaber, but the strike still messes up your leap. You fall just short of the edge and end up clinging to the edge with one hand.

"Die, Jedi!" the Sith announces from down-below. You have a split second to decide how to counter.

What do you do?

 1. Pull yourself up out of the hole - don't worry about the attack.

You pull yourself up, lightsaber still in one hand. It's a little harder with one hand, but you're glad you kept your weapon in hand when another volley of lightning crackles up and almost strikes you. You manage to redirect it before it actually hits you and to pull yourself up and out. Now on the ground, you briefly brush off your robes before giving the Sith a jaunty wave. Stepping away from the edge, you look either way.

There's the door you opened with your crystal, still open, down one end of the corridor. There's a set of double doors at the other end, with one door ajar. Now that you're closer, you realise that both have been blown off their hinges and are resting haphazardly by the door frame. Through the one open door, you can see a large rooms that looks recently wrecked. You suppose that's where the Sith came barrelling out of. To your left, there's a hole blasted in the wall, making a dark and poorly lit tunnel.

You head to your left, running just inside the dark hole in the wall. Not long after, the Sith leaps out of the ground, clearly aided by the Force. They look around the corridor frantically before letting out a frustrated bellow and hitting the wall a few times with their lightsaber.

"Coward!" they shout one last time, before walking back to the ajar doors. You think you hear them speak under their breath, adding a quite "Thank the Force."

You're not sure what to think of that. They retreat through the doors, using the Force to lean the open door back in place.

After the Iktotchi has retreated into the other room, you sneak from your hiding place up to the ajar doors. You think there's something fishy about this so-called Sith and you'd like to glean a bit more about them. You peer through the gaps in the doors.

The Iktotchi is pacing in the other room, a slight haze of Dark Side power leaving a cloud where their feet walk. They seem to be muttering to themselves in an upset tone, saying things like where the Jedi (probably you) went, why their powers are doing this and what in the Emperor's name they're going to do now. Oh, and cursing some other names that seem family to the Iktotchi - probably Sith that they knew. They even mention a "General Izeinhowe", cursing them.

After a few moments, the Sith stops in place and turns their head in your direction, a suspicious look on their face.

From behind the doors, you arm yourself and casually call out;

"You need some work in your technique, young padawan."

You see their expression widen in shock. Then turn down in anger.

"I am not a padawan!" they shout back, making a gesture at the same time.

The door you were standing just behind flies back into you, obviously Force Pushed by the Iktotchi. You manage to cut it in half, as your lightsaber was already in hand, but the cut sides still hit you hard. You'd rub your shoulders - which are bruised at the very least - but you don't really want to take your eyes off your opponent.

"And yet you didn't notice me hiding; even when you walked right by me."

They stomp up closer to you but don't seem to be attacking. They're clearly still angry when they reply;

"I knew you were there! I just couldn't see you. I- You ran. Like a coward Jedi."

A mixed look comes over the Sith's face and they make a frustrated sound. Drawing up their lightsaber, they rhetorically ask;

"Why am I still talking with you. I'll kill you, Jedi! And I'll take your head back to my Masters."

There's more to this Sith than meets the eye, you think. You'd like to figure out what they're keeping from you but how do you keep him talking. Unless, of course, he didn't know you were a Jedi... Trying to keep your casual aire, you respond;

"I don't know who you think you're calling 'Jedi'."

"You won't-!" they stop mid-tirade. Looking stunned, they give you what you assume to be a quizzical look.

"You're... what?" in a split-second, the Iktotchi is angry again, "Liar! I won't fall for that. You're in Jedi robes on Tython. You're a Jedi."

"Oh well yeah, they think I'm a Jedi. But I've always felt there must be more to the Force than what they preach in the temples. That's why I came looking for the Sith in the Ruins. The one they said was too strong to capture."

The Iktotchi looks at you suspiciously but after a moment they nod.

"Hm. Why? Why would anyone want to talk to me?"

"I wanted to test my Jedi training and see how much stronger the Dark Side is. I want you to test my strength and you can tell me about how you use the Dark Side. About how the Sith trained you."

You wait to see if the Iktotchi bought it. They stare at you suspiciously and, through the Force, you can still sense the wafts of Dark Side flowing out of them. After a moment, they give a firm nod.

"You want to fight? Fine. But your first lesson? In the Sith academy, every fight is a fight to the death."

You can't help but show a bit of shock at this;

"Even practice duels?"

They grin back at you unkindly, apparently amused at your reaction and leaving the answer clear. You manage to suppress a gulp. It's not that you're particularly worried about the Sith murdering you but rather it seems so incredibly ruthless for the Sith to employ such an ideal - that ever fight is too the death, no matter if you're just learning or not. You gain some perspective on why the Sith out in the field are as bloodthirsty as they are. They'd have to be to have survived their Academies.

You raise your Lightsaber, igniting it. The Sith does the same. In a flash, the pair of you begin to duel.

They actually aren't a bad duelling partner. They very uncontrolled - which they explain to be part of Sith training - but they're still relatively competent. You don't want to be prideful, but you don't think their skills match up to yours yet. You remain firm, not giving them an inch, but you don't push back at them too hard as you try to prolong the fight. Thankfully, it doesn't take much prompting for the Sith to tell you about their training about about the Dark Side.

From your conversation, you glean that the Sith is quite sensitive to the power of the Force (not unusual for their species) but you also learn that they've never particularly excelled at their training nor have they been exposed to Jedi and the Light Side of the Force before now.

You also learn a lot about personal life in a Sith Academy. It sounds interesting. Maybe even very interesting.

What do you do?

 1. Ask about how the Iktotchi became a Sith.
 2. Press your advantage; try to win the duel.
 3. Stop holding firm - let yourself loose the duel.

"And how did you come to the Academy in the first place?"

The Iktotchi shrugged between strikes.

"I'm force sensitive. I was, um, I was young. A little kid. The moon I lived on is controlled by the Empire. I was Force Sensitive so they sent me to the Academy to be trained."

They continued talking at your prompts, explaining the hardships they went through and having to compete against all the oher acolytes. What they describe is surprisingly similar to your own training - the lonliness, finding some sort of solace in others, the need to stand out from the others lest no Master choose you, constructing your own lightsaber for the first time.

"Do you like it?"

You ask next, between blows. The Iktotchi is puzzled at first but answers eventually. They say that it doesn't matter. They don't not like it and it's everything they've ever known. After a few more attacks they admit;

"It can be pretty fun. When you're winning, anyway."

As if to punctuate that point, their next strike is harder than their last few and you almost stumble back a step.
