"Founded in the late 1880’s by Jackson Tellman, The Jazz Café, located in New York City, is a meeting place for many musicians and music lovers alike. For the patron, we offer plenty of delightful food and drink on top of some of the best local talent in town. For the musician, we offer not only the things mentioned before, but a chance to play in this very cafe with friends or people you just met who know the same piece you do. We also have all of the jazz standards sheet music for any instrument found in a big band. Simply ask one of our attendants or myself, George Tellman, and we’ll bring right out to ya lickity split. I hope you all have a fantastic evening and enjoy the music!"

New York City, New York

4:30 AM EST

It was early morning in the big apple. Only a couple people out and about plus the occasional taxi driver were moving about, as opposed to the hundreds of people and cars that flooded every side walk and every street during the day. It was a peacefulness Mr Tellman enjoyed experiencing as he walked from his apartment to the place he and his family had owned for over a century. It was a pretty decent sized cafe on the corner of West 4th & West 10th street. As he unlocked the door and stepped inside, he was greeted to the dark silhouettes of chairs on tables and the dim reflection of a shining piano towards the back. The door slowly closed behind him after he brought in a strange coffin-looking case. He let his muscle memory guide him where his eyes could not: to the light switch on the far wall behind a waist-high construct. A warm luminescence swept over the room to reveal the cafe in its entirety: a shining wooden floor holding almost 20 tall tables with just as tall chairs placed on them upside down, a wooden bar with a black marble counter top with some 10 stools on top of it. Behind the bar were visible coffee making utensils and a swinging door that led to the kitchen, as well as multiple chalk boards detailing the menus and specials. Finally, there was the stage: a large, elevated platform some 30 feet across and 20 feet back, with a glossy black grand piano left-of-center stage as an amplifier for a potential guitarist. He set the case he had with him off to the side of the stage.

Before he started setting up shop, he went over to the radio behind the bar and put on one of his favorite CDs: Birth of The Cool by Miles Davis. Over the next half hour was spent getting all of the chairs down, wiping down the tables, and warming up the machines in the kitchen, all while humming along to the beautiful music made so long ago. Finally when it was all said and done, Mr Tellman flicked a switch in the front corner of the establishment to turn on the cafe's neon sign and flashing 'OPEN' sign in the window. With this, he sat himself down at the piano aand began to play along to the radio as he waited for someone to come through the door.

@anyone (the store opens at 5 am and closes at 10 pm)

Kelly toweled the sweat off his forehead and pulled off his prosthetic, using a cane to maneuver into the shower. It was still dark out and would be for a while yet, but he had the first shift as a barista at the cafe today so his morning run had to happen at 4 AM. It was a bit past 4:30 when he got out of the shower, he threw on a white button down and black slacks, grabbed his apron and headed out the door. The cafe was close enough that it wasn't worth driving, even with only one real leg. Perks of being a barista, you could just make your own fancy coffee when you got to work on days like this.

The streets were dark and peaceful, and about as quiet as a city that never sleeps could get, and the air was just cold enough to be refreshing. Kelly was the easily distracted type, a sort of stop and smell the roses sort of person, and as it was, he meandered his way into being late for work.

The chime on the door announced his arrival at 5:05, five minutes after he was due to be in. They never got people right when they opened, though, they likely wouldn't get anyone in until after he had the chance to turn on all the machines and get his own drink anyway. "Morning Mr. Tellman." He greeted his boss, glancing at the piano as he assumed his post for the morning.

Bepherly had slept in late the morning she had an early shift at the cafe. She had never been a morning person, and this was a great example why. But she wanted to come in early today, she just couldn’t remember the reason why she actually chose to. When she woke up, she glanced at the time and nearly fell out of bed. It was already a quarter to five in the morning, and it took her about thirty minutes to get to the cafe from her apartment, especially with the constant traffic on the New York City streets. After she finished getting dressed in her appropriate work attire, Bepherly brushed out her shoulder lengthed hair and put on her glasses instead of her contacts. She kept it pretty simple today, not wanting to draw any attention to herself. She rushed out of her apartment with her acoustic bass guitar case and a messenger bag that had a bunch of her own music she brought just in case. Beph enjoyed writing her own music for fun and played it when she had the chance.

Once outside, she easily flagged down a cab. It took her approximately thirty minutes as predicted to get to the cafe, causing her to arrive at 5:10 am. To her, this seemed really late since her shift started at 5 am when the cafe opened. She quickly got out of the taxi and jogged into the cafe while holding her bag and guitar case. Thankfully, there was no one there except for her boss and another man who was behind the bar. “Sorry I’m late, Mr. Tellman” Bepherly apologized to the man. “I’m just already used to working the later shifts.” She stood there awkwardly for a good minute before she put her bag down on one of the tables and brought her case towards the back of the cafe, closer to the stage.

It was quite a calm morning for Crissostomo, Eli, Kyoko, and Connor to take a morning stroll around New York city in their casual attire. Crissostomo and Eli were wearing their suits, Kyoko wearing what it seems to be a generic Japanese school uniform, and Eli wearing his usual cyan polo attire. "Don't you think this is a bit too early Connor?"  Crissostomo questioned Connor. Connor simply released a small chuckle before replying to Crissostomo. "Don't be silly Cris! This is the best time to view the place! I mean... Look the place!" Connor pointed his index finger on a empty dim lighted central park. Eli gave off a disappointed facial expression "Uh huh, yeah right." Eli gave a short sigh before continuing his statement. "Now why did bring us here so early?" Eli raised his right eyebrow hoping that Connor will reply. Connor gave a similar sigh before answering. "Look, i overheard a group of girls yesterday that there is this one cool cafe that plays Jazz music! And i was trying to keep it as a surprise." Connor became a bit silent. Eli simply smiled Connor. "Well, You don't have to keep it a secret Connie!" Eli said with joy. "So where is this Jazz cafe?" Crissostomo asked Connor.

"Well follow me." Connor smiled to the group and began to walk straight. "After a few minutes of non stop walking. They were close. "I know it's here somewhere..." Connor was talking to himself. The three were also helping him search. Kyoko pointed to the building they were looking for. "Is that it?" Kyoko wanted to clarify if she's correct. Connor took a quick glance on where kyoko was pointing. He ignored it at first for he thought she was wrong, until he took a another just to clarify. His eyes widened for kyoko is indeed correct. "That's the place! Good work kyoko!" Connor's voice was filled with joy. Connor waved his arm forward to his group telling them to follow him come on guys! let's go!" He walked across the empty street towards the cafe. His Group followed.

The four had finally entered the cafe. The four were in awe mostly Kyoko and Crissostomo. "Wow..." Crissostomo said under his breath. He has never seen a place like this before.

He heard the little bell above the door ring as one of his employees came through the door. "Good mornin' Kelly." George said to him with a smile. How are you doin' this fine morning?" When the song that was playing was over, he got up from the piano and went back to the case he had brought in earlier. He opened it, revealing the body of an upright bass, or so it seemed. He began to set it up, and a few minutes later it was a functioning upright. As he finished putting it together and began to tune it up, a newer employee of his, Bepherly, walked in a couple minutes later than she was supposed to come in. However, he wasn't really mad at her for doing it, given that most people don't get up until much later. Besides, it didn't really hurt anything since no customers have come in yet. "Don't worry about it Bepherly, it's understandable. Tell you what, how about you make it up to me by helping me get the drums from the back and set them up here?" He responded to her in a kind tone. He had just finished tuning his instrument and adjusting the endpin height, so he leaned the bass against the wall next to the stage. He gestured for her to follow him, as he began walking towards the hall to the righ of the stage. A couple minutes later, and while they were in the back, George heard the door chime ring. "Kelly, Can you take care of whomever just came in?" he called out.

The door chime sounded just as Kelly was putting the lid on the coffee he had made for himself to get him through the early morning. Fortunately, he was a morning person, and for now at least, was awake enough without the assistance of caffeination. He just nodded at Mr. Tellman before turning a charming smile, much too wide and sincere for 5:30 AM, on the group who had just walked in the door. A quick glance revealed they weren't morning regulars, not ones the Kelly recognized in any case. "Good morning, what can I get for you?" He greeted cheerfully.

Connor turned his head towards the voice that was caught in his ears. He pushed his glasses up and replied nervously for he has no intention to order anything "Ahh, yes good morning. Umm... actually we were just checking the place you know..." Eli butted in the conversation. "Actually, we came here to order. Got any coffee? Because this twerp woke us up so early for this." Eli said while leering at Connor. Connor just shrugged and released a nervous laugh. Crissostomo and Kyoko happily awaited for the workers answer, for they too wanted some coffee.

Bepherly walked back to the table where her bag was set after she put her guitar case down, smiling apologetically to Mr. Tellman as he excused her tardiness. “Thank you so much, Mr. Tellman” she told him, highly relieved that he practically brushed it off. When he offered her a chance to make it up, Beph didn’t hesitate to nod her head. “Yeah of course” she said. She left her bag on the table again then followed Mr. Tellman towards the back of the cafe again. As she passed the bar, she flashed the other employee that was working behind the bar a relaxed smile. She didn’t know his name yet since she was still very new, but she planned to find out later. If she was going to work with him, she should at least know his name. Bepherly started to help Mr. Tellman by picking up the different drum pieces and setting them up on the stage with him. She noticed the group of customers that came in and watched them for a second as she worked. She thought of who would actually want to come in so early in the morning, but it was a cafe so it did make sense. “There we go, all done” she told her boss once the drums were set and ready on the stage.

Angel woke up earlier than the rest of his family as always. He was hoping to stop off at the Cafe before school. He always went there and was either seen there, at the Church or at home  but the Cafe was more home to him. It was always so welcoming and he could escape there when the stress of school and home life was difficult. Teenage depression was common and Angel had it though he never talked about it. He rarely spoke at all. He showered and changed into some clothing before grabbing his lunch from the fridge, his electric guitar and his bag before leaving his home near Broadway.

He soon arrived at the Cafe and spotted Befh as well as a group of people that weren't their regular customers. He walked over to Kelly, avoiding these people. They were older than him and would have no interest in a teen boy. He greeted him with a false smile. He really didn't want to be awake this early let alone have to go to school but this was his safe space. He knew everyone who worked here and they would know something was wrong. He had to look positive at least.

"Morning Kelly," he said wearing that fake smile like a mask, "How's your morning going?"

Kelly raised an eyebrow at the four kids who had come in. The oldest one looked only a couple years younger than him, college students probably. "Nope." He replied cheerfully, pointing at the menu above the bar that listed the coffee drinks served. "I'm afraid you'll have to go to another cafe that's open this early if you want coffee." He joked. Kelly was pretty good at towing the line of being sarcastic without seeming rude. He took a sip of his own frappuccino just for effect. "No seriously, just order when you're ready," Kelly said, turning to the kid who had just walked in.

"Too early. As per usual." He answered with a cheerfulness that shouldn't belong in that sentence, getting a cup to fill the teenagers usual order.
