Realistic or Modern The Iron Triangle - A Story Of The Vietnam War

This RP will most likely use Discord in some manner, especially if things are going to get descriptive.​

I'm looking for some patriotic volunteers to head out into the jungles of Vietnam. The story will be a series of Missions with some Downtime in between for the characters to develop some bonds and rifts between each other. This story will require a certain level of maturity, with a focus on keeping it real. As such, edgelords are generally not welcome.

Expansive knowledge of the Vietnam war is NOT required. But if you do know a great deal, do get in touch with me!

There will be some dice involved, but I'll be taking care of all that behind the scenes. All I need from you are ideas, originality and a slightly morbid sense of humour (most American and ANZAC soldiers kept themselves sane in this way).

  • This RP will take place during Operation Cedar Falls in a region of Vietnam known to you as "The Iron Triangle" Iron Triangle (Vietnam) - Wikipedia

  • You will be playing as members of the 25th Infantry Division, US Army

Application to serve:

  • Give a physical description of your character including height, weight, build, race and any defining marks. Please note that only human male characters will be suitable for this story.
  • Give a short backstory to your character including their name, age and origin. E.g: Are they an enthusiastic volunteer or a reluctant draftee? Are they a part of a the hippy culture? What's their opinion of the war, Communism and President Lyndon B. Johnson? What motivates your character? What displeases them? Be creative!
  • With 24 points total, assign freely between three statistics: Fortitude (physical fitness and toughness), Vigilance (mental and social ability, also awareness), Proficiency (knowledge and skill of soldiering, E.g, clearing weapon jams, marksmanship, etc.)
  • Choose one MOS (Military Occupation Speciality): Rifleman, Pigman, Medic, Radioman, Grenadier, Pointman, Marksman

Characters submitted here are liable to change, so don't worry if you're unsure of certain aspects.

Specifics can be flavour texted in. You'd more than likely be using an M14 fitted with a scope.

If I were too pick I'd probably fill the Grenadier role, though I'm pretty flexible.

Vietnam RP Character Sheet

I'm looking at the choice of MOS and I'm keen to make a few adjustments, i.e. moving people from specialist roles into being riflemen. Without a few of those, the squad will not last long! If we have less than 10 players, we'll have 0-1 radiomen, 0-2 pointmen, 1 grenadier and the rest will be rifles with an option for a single marksman and pigman (who will need a rifleman to work beside him as a loader). We can work this out together as I still want people to have fun, but keeping it somewhat real will help drive the impact of the setting home. Riflemen are by no means "under-powered".
