Every character should have a specific, unique power, but that power has to have a challenging side effect they must manage or learn to control.

Character Suggestions (feel free to make your own or use these templates)
- A metahuman who can move with incredible speed and agility, but their metabolism makes them sluggish and tired if they can't take in enough food.
- A girl who was pregnant when the experiment started, so rather than becoming a metahuman herself, her child becomes a metahuman. As the child grows, so does its powers and she has little to no control over it.
- A metahuman who has nearly impenetrable skin, but also can't be given shots or blood transfusions
- A metahuman with catlike reflexes, and night vision, but whose skin had grown a coat of fur, making it hard for them to appear in public.
- A metahuman who builds up kinetic energy and can release it, but sometimes can't control it and has to get away from people quickly before the energy they store up releases and causes injuries.

The players will work together to escape the institute and avoid the dangerous metahuman agents that work for the institute. Along the way they may encounter friends and foes alike.

BASICS & APPEARANCE

d7146d1826b6bb280eb3e652838d9df3.jpg

NAME
Ivy Brent
AGE
20
HEIGHT
5'3"
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Ivy is a pretty young woman with dishevelled, dirty blonde hair, solemn brown eyes and a heart shaped face. She is below average height and has a dainty, but slightly underweight frame. She tends to dress rather nondescript in dark hoodies and jeans, not wanting to draw attention to her now pale green skin from the experiments she has been forced through. It is rare that she lets her hood down, ashamed of how hideous her skin looks. She feels as though she looks like The Wicked Witch of the West or something now.

PERSONALITY & POWERS

POWERS
Ivy has gained the ability to summon organic vine-like plants from her body (usually her hands). These can be used in both defence and offence. However this power comes at a cost. Each time Ivy summons these plants it is excruciatingly painful for her and her body now has to produce chloryphl to create these vines. Because of this, her skin has taken on a pale green, almost sickly hue and Ivy hates to be seen in public. She is also generally weaker at night time and thrives in sunlight and has a slightly higher than average tolerance to pain. If the vines she creates are severed, Ivy will experience immense pain and instantly pass out for up to ten minutes at a time.

PERSONALITY
Ivy is shy and introverted, but a natural caregiver and can be overly giving. Although she cares about people very much, Ivy finds it hard to form strong and long-lasting bonds with people because she is afraid of being hurt or hurting them. She is a creative thinker and loves to draw. Ivy tends to stress a lot about things that she cannot control and tries too hard to control the things she can. She avoids conflicts to a fault, making her too agreeable and unassertive.

Ivy can be stubborn when it comes to her morals and is surprisingly unbending when it comes to her most deeply held beliefs in non-violence and kindness, although because her natural tendency is toward pleasing people and peacemaking, she will not have any qualms with telling a white lie if it means everyone will get along.

If one takes the time to get to know Ivy well enough, they will be surprised at how much of a realist she can be and her sometimes dark and edgy sense of humour. Although she is at heart an idealist, she is under no illusions about how cruel the world can be and dislikes toxic optimism and sugary-sweet catchphrases. She doesn't necessarily embrace the dark side of life, but she definitely knows that she has her own dark side.

VIRTUES
Creative, kind, loyal
VICES
Unassertive, controlling, neurotic
FEARS
Being touched, conflict, violence, nightmares she has of being experimented on

BACKGROUND

BACKGROUND
Ivy has always been a quiet, private and pacifistic girl, though her home life was anything but peaceful. She was born to a cruel and volatile mother, who's name was Rose and a father whom Ivy knows nothing of other than that he 'abandoned' them shortly after she and her twin brother Brayden were born. She was born in the town of Springdale.

Rose did not make life easy for Ivy. When they were both still infants, Ivy's twin brother Brayden sadly passed away, sending her mother into a tailspin and making her more volatile. Rose never wasted an opportunity to let Ivy know that she loved Brayden more and wished Ivy had never even been born.

Though Ivy faced physical and verbal abuse from her mother for her entire life, she refused to fight her back. She was always a quiet and peaceful child and never wanted to become as cruel as her mother. She did not have any close friends to speak of, in fact, Ivy was pretty much invisible to all her peers. She liked it that way, but whenever people did take the time to speak to her, she was always kind and attentive, and quick to avoid conflict at all costs. Though Ivy though about running away several times, she also felt a guilt about leaving her unstable mother on her own, so she stayed until she was taken away to The Institute.

Occupation: High school dropout, ex-gang member

    Height: 5'7 (170 cm)
    Weight: 135 lbs (61 kg)
Appearance: Daphne has a slender toned body that consists of long limbs. Being Southeast Asian, she was born with a medium-golden tan complexion with dark brown eyes and black hair that's messily chopped into a wolf-cut. Although her powers haven't given her obvious signs of side effects from afar, her impenetrable skin noticeably acts similar to metal with only the coloring out of place. It reflects in the sun, and there are various scratches and dents all over her arms that almost look like what a scratch and a dent would look like on a car rather than flesh. Her style typically consists of loose, modern neutral-toned clothing.

b04fbeec8ab7694c.jpegName: Everett Barnes
Age: 19
Height: 5' 9"

Appearance: Everett is a slight and unassuming youth, sinewy and toned from working on his father's lumber yard in the summers with sandy hair and slate blue eyes. His mutation does not affect his appearance until he is gathering kinetic energy to release, which makes his muscles glow through his skin.

Personality: Everett's father was an abusive drunk who drove away Everett's mother with his intolerable behavior when he was thirteen. She always promised to come back and get her son out of the situation, but after four years of waiting, the boy figured that it was unlikely she would ever come back. Everett is a quiet and closed off youth who is slow to trust and slower to open up with his inner feelings. On particularly bad days he would often bottle up the intense feelings of the day and walk deep into the wood behind his father's house where he would yell and pound his fists on a tree. His inability to process the hurt and anger led him to flounder in school and struggle to make meaningful friendships. He contains his anger as well as he can, but it often manifests as stubborn silence.

Metahuman Mutation: After being experimented on, Everett's body began to generate kinetic energy which he can release in targeted blasts. It is easiest to do this from his hands, but he can, in theory, release the energy from any part of his body. The negative impact of this power is that it leaves him numb and exhausted after using it for a sustained amount of time, he can also overcharge and reach a kind of critical mass where his body expels a tremendous amount of energy in all directions. This can be extremely dangerous to the people around him.

  • NAME...............Liam Jonathan Bradley
    AGE...................20
    GENDER...........Male
    HEIGHT............5'9”
    WEIGHT...........162 lbs
    DESCRIPTION
Liam doesn't look like much at first glance. Always dressing in heavy clothes and listening to music, he's not one for showing off or showing anything whatsoever. He's much of a listener, saving his words for when they're necessary. Although he's quiet, he'll welcome any conversation. Liam's shoulders are more than often tensed up, looking to be in a constant state of discomfort. Eye contact is important for him, requiring it for any social interactions; avoiding this makes him distrustful.

winter rp.pngWinter RP 2.png
Faceclaim - Kim Min Jeong
Legal Name - Megan Stone
Nickname - Winter
Age - 19
Sexuality - Asexual
Occupation - Whatever makes her money

Height - 5'4
Weight - 105 lbs
Appearance - Although Winter had always been on the paler side, her skin became almost as white as snow after the experimentations. She has midnight black hair and dark brown eyes, which she likes to cover with icy blue contacts for that extra "pop". Winter also almost always wears long sleeve shirts as, being a petite woman who puts herself into ridiculously dangerous positions, she likes to carry thin blades hidden from view. They're strapped to her forearms by a garter, and she can strike out at anyone simply by pulling her sleeve up a few inches.

Personality - Cold and calculating, she never cares to become close with anyone unless it benefits her in some way and, if she does get close to someone, she has absolutely no issue with throwing them to the side if her needs change. People are simply objects that allow Winter to achieve a personal goal. Her base nature is to be quiet, watch, and listen. If a social situation calls for it, she can switch and become talkative, friendly, flirty, or ditzy at a moment's notice. But don't be fooled; if Winter is nice to you, she wants something. And when she wants something, she doesn't stop until she gets it. She's not completely emotionless! She feels satisfaction when a goal is achieved, and she often feels joy when someone is emotionally or physically hurt.

History - Born into a stable, upper-middleclass family, Winter had the idealistic childhood. Loving parents, lessons in whatever she wanted to do, family vacations every summer. She excelled in school from a young age and always won the seat as class president. But none of this brought Winter joy. She always had this incessant need for more fulfillment. It wasn't any fun just being given something by her parents or teachers; she wanted to take it for herself. One semester in 5th grade, a girl in Winter's class finished the year with a higher score. After school, Winter followed the girl on her way home. This was a safe suburb where children would often walk themselves home as crime was almost non-existent. Winter had a bat that she had stolen from the school's PE class and, when she saw no one around, she swung. And swung. She stood over the crying girl, and swung again. And again. This was the first time Winter felt joy. It was an addicting feeling. And of course, the girl deserved it! No one scored better than Winter; that's just how it was.

As an 8th grade graduation present, her parents bought Winter an adorable puppy. Everyone in the neighborhood loved that dog. Even Winter's parents loved it. Almost too much. The dog was annoying, always trying to outshine Winter in the eyes of the people around her.
One day, before her parents returned from work, Winter had enough of the dog. She took him in the backyard and, with a bat, swung at the dog again and again. The squeals didn't phase her; they encouraged her. She was fascinated at the moment of death, and spent the whole afternoon examining the dog, lost in her own mind. She was so invested, she didn't realize when her parents had returned home and found her in the backyard, holding a bloodied bat next to the body of their dog.
Their perception of the perfect daughter being shattered, her parents were unsure of what to do besides force her into therapy and to see a psychiatrist. Therapy was where Winter learned to hone and craft her ability to blend in. Using emotions she didn't actually feel at the correct moments was difficult at first, but she soon caught on and, after almost a year, she managed to convince her parents of her "recovery".

At the age of 18, Winter received a call one day that her parents had been in a terrible car accident when a drunk truck driver swerved into oncoming traffic. Both were killed almost instantly. Even this didn't stir emotions with Winter. If anything, it was nice not to have to answer to anyone anymore. She was an adult, after all. Having made connections to "bad people" in high school, she decided that the easiest way to make money was to join them in their endeavors. While never actually joining any gang, Winter gladly played the role of "bait" for a large portion of criminal organizations. She didn't care about the job so long as she was paid. Whether it be luring someone down an alley to be robbed or aiding in the act of kidnapping someone for trafficking, she had no qualms. While working for one of the more notorious gangs, one of the lower-tier guys decided to try and have his way with her. A weak, attractive little girl like her should learn her place. That was her first human kill. A hidden blade straight to the femoral artery, she smiled as the man bled out in the decrepit alley. This gained her notoriety and respect among the criminals so, when Winter suddenly disappeared without a trace one day, they all thought she had been killed while trying to defend herself again.

Metahuman Mutation - After experimentation, Winter gained the ability to drastically decrease the temperature of anything she touches, almost instantly freezing it in a block of ice. Her breath can do this as well which lets her use her ability at range, but to a lesser extent. Someone grabbed her to try and subdue her? She can touch their arm, freezing it almost instantly, and then shatter it like an ice cube—bye arm. The downside is that she has only limited control as to when this happens. At all times her touch will feel like an ice cube to someone else and they'll get chills if they are too close to her when she talks. She also always feels like she's standing outside, naked in a snowstorm. No amount of layers helps to warm her up. It physically doesn't harm her, but mentally she's almost always in pain from it.

Theme Song - Villian - KD/A

She can touch their arm, freezing it almost instantly, and then shatter it like an ice cube—bye arm. The downside is that she cannot control when this happens. Anything she touches will freeze; any room she breathes in will, after a little while, drop drastically in temperature. This has forced her to wear specially designed gloves and masks which contain her ability until she removes them.

I like the idea of this ability a lot. The only thing I might ask you to adjust is the side effects. These kids will be escaping the institute at the start of the RP and be on the run. She is not going to have access to the advanced technology you are describing to contain her side effects. Perhaps it could be something less destructive, like she always feels cold, no matter how warm she dresses or physically touching others causes them pain like touching snow or ice?

Max Faraday

Name: Max Faraday
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Sexuality:: “Whatever”
Star Sign: Scorpio
Birthday: October 23
Height: 6’0”

Metahuman Mutation: Max has the ability to phase through objects: his form becomes shimmering and ghostlike, allowing him to walk through doors, walls, and other solid objects, only to reconstitute himself at will on the other side. But there have been times during those awful test trials, in moments of high stress or deep loneliness, when he struggled to become whole again, his form flickering erratically or fading almost entirely as if he might blink out of existence at any moment….

In one aspect, yes, I believe in ghosts…

ghost.png

…but we create them. We haunt ourselves.”

  • Max is Max, a ghost just like he’s always been. Max is tall and skinny like he’s always been, and white like he’s always been, and sort of unkempt like he’s always been. Max is tall because he grew that way, having experienced a late growth spurt at seventeen so that he shot up to 5’10”, and then two more inches. Max is white because he never spent much time outdoors, a menagerie of personal problems keeping him cooped up inside where he played video games in the dark, and slept rather than getting up for school, and boredly scrolled through graphic websites that never interested him as much as they should have. His pale skin color is perfect for bruising; when blood hemorrhages and blooms under the skin like dark flower petals, there’s no hiding it. Max is thin, but not skinny, with broad shoulders and a lean frame muscled enough to put up a decent fight, in his arms, in his shoulders. And his legs: he does a lot of running, away naturally, always away.
Max’s bitter sense of humor pairs well with his smile: it’s a sort of let down smile, a laughingly miserable smile, like when you’re hurt so much the only thing left to do is smile. His slight underbite and that chipped front tooth add to the sort of pathetic hilarity of his grin, which conveys the futility and hope of life all in one contradictory expression. Max’s eyes are like that too, a slate-colored gray, almost black, like dirty wash-water, like all the negativity his parents threw at him as a child was soaked up into his irises.
Max’s style tends to lean more towards carelessness—net necessarily the “cool” kind, more the “I’m so depressed that crawling out of bed is a feat in and of itself” kind. His dark hair is always a little mussed. As for his clothes, the fabric is soaked in a dizzying mix of strong cologne and cigarette smoke, those old dark skinny jeans and monochromatic hoodies and v-neck t-shirts, and a pair of dark, beat up off-brand Converse. Max doesn’t like to stand out, never has: he just prefers to melt into the background, see-through, invisible. It looks like his deepest, innermost wish finally came true.

Name: Andrew Cartwright
Nickname: Prefers to be called Dru or Andy
Age: 19
Sexuality: Bi
Height: 5'10
Physical Description: Dru is a slender looking guy, 5'10 tall with blond hair that looks like it has light brown highlights even though he never dyes his hair. His hairstyle is cut into layers and easy to style. With brown eyes that have specks of amber in them, he wouldn't stand out in a crowd if it weren't for his clothing choices. Dru prefers to wear clothes he considers fun or cool. They come in all kinds of styles but he stays away from neon colors or colors that are too hard on the eyes. His wardrobe includes a lot of hoodies and socks with patterns as well as alternative fashion clothes. He paints his fingernails black or white depending on what he is wearing.

71664d4c67c18f17677d5539027fb06d.jpg

Personality: Dru used to be very outgoing and a social guy that spent more time with friends and around people than alone. He never liked the 'getting to know you phase' and often just approached someone and started a conversation even if he didn't know them very well. That caused him to be popular with some people while others called him a weirdo. He tended to hide his emotions with a smile so he smiled very often no matter what he was feeling. Since he was locked up in the facility he changed a bit but he still prefers to be around people than alone, even if it's just sitting with someone in silence. He is very protective of those he lets into his circle of friends and really hates when someone blames him for something he didn't do, it tends to make him so angry he lashes out in any way he can.

Background:
Dru was born in America but soon after he was born his family moved to Japan. He grew up with his mother and father and had a relatively good childhood despite the struggle the family had with money. Everything was well until the day Dru had an accident that led to him ending up in the hospital where events lead to the revelation that his father wasn't really his father. His parents divorced and following a big fight his mother forbade Dru's father to contact him again, not that the man wanted to anyway. At that point, Dru was seventeen years old and his mother became emotionally unstable. She packed some of their things and moved them back to America. She thought she could start over and be happy but her behavior only drove people away and caused there to be more and more of a distance between her and Dru. After even his rebelling and acting out didn't help get his mother's attention Dru eventually had enough and ran away from home which is when he was taken from the streets by people from the institute.

Power:

Persuasion

Using his voice he can persuade a person to do what he tells them to do but this power only works if he is heard by the person he is trying to influence and if his voice isn't messed with. To prevent him from using his power on the people in the institute they used a special choker that changed his voice so his power wouldn't work while he had it on.
Due to having this power anyone who knows about it seems very distrustful of him, questioning if he is using his ability on them or when he asks for something often refusing just to see that they can and he isn't using his ability. He also gets headaches if he tries to use his power on very strong minded people because it takes more of his concentration for the power to work.

Aurora Dream Aurora Dream This is all good! Can you add in a negative consequence of his power? I can suggest that the ability to persuade people with his voice might make the people around him feel really distrustful.

Adonis

name

Adonis "Ado" Myers

age

18

ability

A sort of sixth sense that warns of danger and helps guide him through difficult situations. He’s described his power to manifest in the form of “ghosts from his past,” but tests to determine whether the dead were actually communicating with him, or if it's simply heightened instincts, have been inconclusive. As a side effect, the voices of these "ghosts” make it hard for him to concentrate.

height

6 ft (182 cm)

physical desc.

Dark, shaggy brown hair that often falls into his eyes. His eyes are a dusty brown, appearing grey from far away. He has tan skin and is fairly skinny; not unhealthily so, but he's not someone to help lift heavy objects.

He is quite
dramatic,
which he tries to hide behind his dry tone and "done with life" attitude. He grew up in a very strict household, and as a result tends to be
untruthful
about his motives, feelings, and even his hobbies and interests. (It's something he's working on, as he realises some things don't need to be hid.) He's
superstitious
; he blatantly refuses to have anything to do with the number five, carries salt with him, among other things. If he likes you, he'll probably end up making you a lucky charm of some sort.

h

istory

He grew up in a somewhat happy family. At least in his younger years. After his father was sent to jail, his mother began finding comfort in the bottom of a bottle. That left him to take care of his younger sister, Angie, who unfortunately died at the age of 13 in a car accident. His mother blamed it on him and became abusive; though he had no cause in the accident, Adonis has developed lots of guilt around the subject of her death. Angie is the most common “ghost” who speaks to him.
