Realistic or Modern The Impurity (OPEN)

Caspar saw the zombies approaching, but he kept running with Zane trailing him. He was almost out of breath he glanced up to see an apartment building, there was weak fortifications from what Caspar could tell. "This way" Caspar grunted, out of breath as he ran towards the apartment and weakly opened the door allowing Zane to get in as he shut it closed.

"No, there's no one else here. It must've happened during the first days of the outbreak, because I came here during the start." Tyler turned his head to look out the window, freezing.

Nearby on another building's rooftop was a zombie, but it must've been a Runner. How could a normal Impure get on a roof? All Tyler knew about Runners were that they are faster and stronger then normal zombies, not to mention their enhanced eye sight, able to see much further. "Get down," the man whispered. Tyler hid behind the couch.

"Starting to get tired of those Things.." He merely stated, now panting as he hadn't had to run like that for a while. He looked around the apartment. "It is best to be careful I guess....." The apartment seemed better than the hotel he had just been in. As in the fact that the building didn't literally have bodies all over the place in the lobby. They couldn't be too careful he figured as there was bound to be something dangerous in here there almost always was, if it wasn't undead it was probably another survivor who wanted to steal their stuff ect. After a while Zane managed to catch his breath. "I guess we should head up then?..I mean I don't mind being down here and all but with them out there and all..I'd feel safer at higher ground." Zane merely said.

Caspar occasionally glanced back to see the zombies approaching, at this point they would run out of energy and would have to stop, he peered up to see an apartment, "This way" Caspar grunted almost out of breath. The apartment appeared to have weak fortifications. Caspar dashed towards the building whilst opening the door allowing Zane to go in before he slammed it close. The bottom floor appeared to be quite dark.

"I agree, we should clear the building, it looks well-kept too maybe we could find food" Caspar began to walk up the stairs, "Lets split up to make this quick" Caspar said as he proceeded to go up the stairs.

Matthew had a firm grip on his crowbar as he quietly walked through what remained of the bookstore. He'd used to visit this place quite frequently before the outbreak, but now he barely recognized it. Most of the books were littered on the floor, and it smelled like someone had died there.

He nervously looked behind him to make sure that there were no zombie behind him, before he walked over to one of the bookshelves and picked the first book he saw that appeared to be relatively undamaged. After spending a second or two inspecting it further, he threw it into his backpack before heading to the exit.

Malcolm rolled behind the wall when the boy told him to get down. From what the boy said, Malcolm thought someone with a gun was across the street. "What? What the hell is it?" Malcolm asked with whispering voice. He kept his back against the wall and tightened his gloves. Malcolm had always had a small fear to guns, but nothing serious, if it was a gunman.

"Damn runner. Those things are the worst. They're not the normal zombies. They are faster, stronger and have better vision. I ran into one before. I was lucky to stay alive, avoid being bitten," Tyler replied. He'd keep waiting for the Runner to leave. "Two men against one Runner is still hard. They'll pounce at you, one bite and you're done."

Eventually the Runner saw no sign of prey and started to leave the area. It climbed down the building and ran down the street, in search of flesh to eat. Tyler got up and wiped his head of sweat. "Now that's done, I'm gonna give you something to eat." He walked to the kitchen and opened a cupboard, pulling out canned tuna. He used his can opener he looted from the bus, walking back into the main room.

Tyler gave Malcolm the tuna, sat down on the sofa with his monkey wrench in hand and started to inspect it. "So, what do you suppose we do now," he said a little tiredly.

Malcolm slid his bag off and accepted the tuna. He remembered running into a runner. He had to out run it for a while and eventually kill it. It wasn't fun. "What I think the best thing to do his sit tight until resources are low, then take what resources we have left and find a new safe place." Malcolm said. He rolled his neck, creating a series of narly cracking sounds

Jane's eyes took a while to get used to the bright rays of sun peeking in through the window.Jane wasn't sure of the time, as her phone had died days ago, and the clock in the aprtment she was staying in had stopped moving when the power stopped working. Jane squinted through the blinds, only to see the same thing as the day before: Ruins, and the dead walking. Every day she had hoped that it was just a dream. It wasn't.

Jane rose from the bed, and steped down untot he soft, carpetes floor. Furniture was askewed everywhere, but most of it was pressed against the door. She sighed, realizing she would be in charge of moving them away again if she wanted to get out.

"But we don't have so much food left, for the two of us at least. Maybe a day left." Tyler continued to play around with his monkey wrench. "I'm gonna go outside and get some more snacks. There's a back alleyway that I can use to get out on a safer street. I'll be back." He grabbed his backpack and started to make his way out of the building.

Tyler opened the apartment door and ran towards the fire exit down the hallway. He walked down the fire stairs to the main floor. Sure enough, the dead were still around the door at the street. So he turned and walked towards the backdoor of the building. He opened it and found himself in the alleyway. Then, he walked to the safer street, very few dead, all spaced away from each other. He was going to loot as much as his backpack could fit.

Zane nodded in brief agreement "Alright I'll check the other side..." Zane made his way over to the other staircase, which subsequently led to the other side of the floors in the building. The thought crossed Zane's mind briefly, "Doesn't some one always die when they split up in the movies?..." Zane brushed off the thought as naturally movies and shows which were undead centric were much different than reality, at least he hoped.

Zane would peer through the looking glass from door to door, checking things out before . Zane cautiously made his way into a room, it seemed like this would have been a decent place to stay if it wasn't for the fact that it was ransacked at that this was the apocalypse and all. Zane made sure to close the door behind him, and subsequently lock it to deter any unwanted "Guests" following him in. Zane scavenged the room, as best he good. There didn't seem to be anything that would make a better weapon than what he already had sadly, he deducted.. It seemed like most of the stuff had been taken already. Zane ended up leaving the room with some canned goods, a few batteries, add a lighter. Which he gladly accepted . Zane did have some room in his bag, and he had some nice coat pockets but the majority of the things he had in there were personal and expensive. The exception being his watch which was exposed, and rather obnoxiously expensive to say the least.

It was a shame that most people weren't accepting cash any more, Zane thought to himself absentmindedly, as he made his way across the hall carefully. There were some despaired table tops, and chairs broken up in the hall way , additionally there was some blood on the walls, it seemed that the building like many others had gotten the red fluid on their walls and floor. Surprisingly though he hadn't really seen any bodies at least yet, Which Zane was rather thankful for, the less bodies the better honestly, as he wasn't entirely sure always which would rise once more. The whole situation of exploring new areas, not sure what danger could pop out next was a bit nerve wracking for him. He currently wondered how Caspar was doing as he continued to make his way further into the depths of the ill lit building..

Caspar walked up the steps with his weapon readied, the hotel looked well-kept, it appears untouched by the apocalypse. But this was no excuse for Caspar to keep his guard down. Everywhere and everything is dangerous, in the apocalypse no one and thing is safe. At least that's what Caspar thinks. Re-building life as it is, making a "haven" trying to re-build society as it was is hopeless, it's simply not possible, there is only a matter of time before people turn on each other and resources will run slim. But surviving is the only choice, well besides becoming one of the "impure". Caspar reached the second floor, he quickly scanned the area making sure there was no threats, he opened one of the apartment doors to find an empty room, he looked through the pantries to find some canned goods. Accidently, he dropped a can by mistake, a short banging noise echoed the floor. "Dang it" whatever was is in the building probably heard it, but from the looks it appears nobody was here, no living, no dead. Caspar zipped up the backpacks before checking the other room.

Tyler returned back to the apartment about an hour later. Walking back into the apartment room Malcom was in, he put down the bag and pulled out what he had found; a box of cereal, a pack of granola bars and four bottles of clean water. Not bad loot, but it'd probably run out soon. Tyler then walked to the couch, as he was getting tired. "I'm just gonna get some rest..." He'd yawn and then fall asleep.

Malcolm hadn't done much in the kids absence. He had walked around a bit, looked at some stuff but in the end he was back at the same spot next to the window. He jumped a bit when he came back. The kid went to sleep rather quickly after he walked in. Malcolm looked at the stuff he brought back. "Not bad..." Malcolm whispered to himself. In this silence Malcolm had realized how tired he was as well. It had been a few days without sleep due to the fact he was always on the run. He wanted to sleep but someone had to keep guard. He sat down against the wall watching the door, fighting his weariness.

Katherine White

Twenty days has passed since the 'apocalypse' started, in the blink of an eye everything went into chaos. The virus spread out quickly and almost infected the whole population, buildings collapsed and exploded around her. What's worse is that many people died from it, especially her family, the only people who she could trust along with an unborn sibling who she will never meet. She wondered if this is happening world wide, if this is the end of the world. She also never had the chance to graduate...and live her life to the fullest as a responsible working adult.

Katherine's thoughts were cut off when she heard a rustle near the place she was staying, closing her journal as she backed away further into hiding. She gripped her cricket bat that was tainted in blood after killing a few zombies just to find shelter. Even in a safe place such as an apartment, she still felt cautious and alert, not knowing when those damned creatures would bust in. Katherine shivered at the thought of a mutated zombie capable of inflicting such damage. The woman kept silent and checked around, the place she was staying at was relatively small but had a good supply of food and water to last for a couple days at least, she was mostly thankful that it wasn't messed up yet. Well, of course since the apocalypse just started.

Soon she would have to leave the city if she can...or find other survivors and band with them just for the sake of being safe..right now it is important to be in a group.....and hope that no one betrays one another... Katherine sighed softly and stared at the door blocked with a heavy wardrobe and fridge while most of the windows were covered by some battered blinds.

It took Jane half an hour to get all the furniture out of the way, and she was very tired by the time it was done. Still, she gathered her things quickly and began the trek down the stairs to the apartment building. Tonight, she decided she would find some place to settle down for a while. It had been a long time since she had stayed put, and she was getting wary of rushing to find a new place every single night. Her supplies had been gone for a long time now, and she needed to focus on getting those refilled rather than where she would be laying her head at night. Hey, if she was lucky, she could even try to find a few people to stick with, but that was unlikely. Jane hadn't seen any living for a while, and she doubted that it was soon to change.

Out of nowhere, Jane heard something. She crouched down on the stairs, suddnly very alert of her surroundings. Beside her, there was a chair leg, which she grabbed immediately upon sight. She knew herself to be on the second floor, only a few more steps left before she'd be grounded. The noise didn't sound very far, yet from her spot on the stairs she couldn't make out any shadows, leading her to believe that maybe it was on the other side of the wall.

Caspar glanced around, scanning the area for any cupboards, or anything worth checking for food that he hasn't already went through. He looked through the empty drawers and cupboards only to find nothing. Whoever was here, was sure they took everything. The thought of others being in the building was merely a small possibility, Caspar wondered why a building in such good conditions and seemingly emptiness of zombies, from his knowledge, had no supplies, people or by that matter any reason to explain the current state of the building. Caspar heard something moving outside the door, he reached his arm for his spear and held it high, he silently grabbed the door handle and slowly turned it making as minimal noise as possible. As he opened the door he found a figure, or perhaps a person, standing by the stairs, holding a chair leg. Caspar slowly opened the door and took a step out of the room with his weapon readied, gesturing he was no threat.

Malcolm Duvall
Malcolm was almost asleep. His head was dropping lower and lower as his eyelids became heavier and heavier. "Come on Malcolm, stay awake" he said weakly. Before he knew it he was asleep. It was a few moments later that he awoke to the sound of his bag hitting the floor, his bat creating an echoing sound that went out the door, down the hall, and down the levels of the building. "Shit!" he whispered as he nearly jumped to his feet. He picked up his bag and swung it around his shoulders.

Tyler bolted awake in alert, pulling out his monkey wrench and getting up. "What? What is it?" He had heard the sound but he was still a little sleepy, so it took him time to put two and two together. "Wait." He'd put his ear to the floor and heard growling. "There's an Impure down there? Someone must've died here recently..."

In a couple of moments the zombie made its way up the stairs to the next floor, 10. The zombie walked down the hall and made grunting sounds. Tyler didn't move an inch. The corpse didn't detect anything, but some dust went into Tyler's nose and he sneezed. Then, it turned and started banging at the unprotected door, trying to break it down. In a rush, Tyler grabbed a chair and blocked the door with it, but then he realized something. The door was shaking much more then it would if a normal zombie was hitting it, so this was either a runner or a dead bodybuilder. "It's gonna break the door down in a couple of moments, even with the chair! Grab anything you can and let's go, it's a Runner."

Malcolm listened to the zed make it's way towards the room. He began to think on what they could do. Then, he had a plan. He turned to Tyler and said "Go grab a bed sheet. We're gonna wrap this thing up in it and then beat it to death". The way Malcolm plan was going to work was that they were going to stand on both sides of the doorway and wait for the zombie to break in. If it does what Malcolm wants to do, it will charge through the door and into the sheet. From there Malcolm will jump to the side with the bed sheet in hand, trapping the thing. Then they will continue to beat it.

"Man, that's suicide!" He noticed that the door was nearly going to burst open, the chair failing at its job. There was no way to escape anyways, so he decided he would just have to give Malcolm's plan a shot. He sighed, speaking. "Alright big guy, but if any of us gets bitten its your fault." He ran to the bedroom, grabbing the blood stained bed sheet and ripping it off the bed. Then, the young man ran back to the door and positioned the sheet, holding it from one side and waited for Malcolm to hold the other. It was only a matter of moments until it broke in.

Malcolm grabbed onto the bed sheet with one hand and held his bat with the other. "Trust me, it'll work" he said. The banging continued and Malcolm knew it wasn't going to hold longer. He got into an athletic stance. He was unsure if this was going to work, but at least it was a plan.

The door burst open and the Runner leaped, only to be decided and fall into the blanket. Tyler let go and pulled out his monkey wrench, beating down the zombie. The Runner was hard to kill as it scrambled and shook, unable to see where it was going. With a final blow to the skull, the brain was destroyed and the kid ripped his wrench out. He looked at the corpse and blood in disgust. "Gross... I'd feel bad if the dead still were conscious," He muttered.

Malcolm slammed his bat down onto the already destroyed head of the runner. "Now it's dead" he said wiping the blood of on the sheet. He shook his head at Tyler's comment. Malcolm didn't feel bad about killing these things. "Dude, don't feel bad. Something I've learned over the course of the last couple weeks is that hesitation is a bite on the throat" he said. Malcolm was still tired. He brought his hand up and placed it on the top of his head and let out a sigh. "I need a break from all this shit" he said sliding down the wall with his bag still on.
