;; Romeo
Romeo had been pretty happy, was there were a few mishaps, but they all got squared away once he saw her. Arien. He was excited to share a holiday with her. What did everyone call it, the puppy love stage? That's what he was in, cloud 9. Waking up, eating breakfast with her- they had a routine down to a tee. It was probably the most structured relationship he'd been in ever.

His aunt had closed up shop early and he was supposed to head over there and he assumed that Arien would come over. Was that wrong of him? Usually if she had something planned she would've told him by now...As the time flew by he hadn't really heard anything after he told her that he had to help his aunt close shop. Was something wrong?

He decided to text her just in case she was busy. 'Hey beautiful, you're bringing your appetite tonight right? The grill is about to burn the house down. Just call me when you can and I can come and get you or we can figure it out!'

He hit send and waited, hoping nothing was wrong.

ISLA SERRANO

Isla smirked at Caelan, her fingers lazily tracing the condensation on her glass. “Okay, first of all, the fact that you’re acting like one fry isn’t a life changing experience is blasphemy. This place turns potatoes into religion. Just wait.”

When the waitress brought the food, she grabbed one from the basket and tossed it dramatically in his direction. “I’ve been coming here since I started training with you.” She shrugged. “It’s just... It’s quiet. No school people. No roommates. No family. Just me and, like, five old dudes who talk about football.”

She giggled to herself. “Charlie pretends like he hates me but I caught him saving me the booth once, so. I win.”

Her eyes met Caelan’s again. “I don’t drink much. Usually just one. It’s not about getting drunk or whatever. It’s just the vibe, y’know? Like I like parties as much as the next person.” A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips. “It’s one of the only places I can actually breathe.”

She'd waited all day to hear from Romeo, assuming she'd be invited to any festivities his family was having. Would it be naive to think that? To think their relationship had progressed enough for him to want her to meet them? She hadn't thought that when the day began but sure enough, she never got that text. Or at least she didn't get the text before she made other plans. The only thing she'd heard from him was that he was closing shop with his Aunt, and to her that translated to don't wait up.

About two hours ago she'd gotten a text from her best friend with the mention of a paid appearance. Sure, holidays were an easy bag for her but it kind of bummed her out that the only plans anyone made with her today was at the club. None of her friends invited her to eat with their family and she hadn't heard from her own family in a year, not that she had reached out to them either. She was a lone wolf whether it was intentional or not. All she really had on a genuine level was Romeo, and all she was getting from his was radio silence.

She had time to get dressed, uber to the club, and order a bottle before Romeo finally texted her. Her brows furrowed deeper with each word of the text that she read. Appetite? Grill? She motioned to her friend that she would be back before she exited the section, going out of the back door of the club in order to call him. The phone rang, almost to the point of reaching the voicemail before he answered. There was no hi or hello simply because she was on the brink of irritation. "Rome, what are you talking about?"

"Mm you're making it sound like there are gods working in the kitchen and Jesus cried on these fries for seasoning. Will I bow after?" He laughed at her urging for him to have a taste. He did say he'd only eat 1....that's it.

His eyes squinted at her statement. "So since you started training with me you started picking up bad habits? I'm a bad influence on you then Isla, I don't know why you stick with me" he stated as he saw the food coming to the table.

Caelan had picked up a fry and was inspecting it like he was worried she'd tampered it quickly. "Well I am happy that you feel comfortable enough to show this to me. I appreciate it-getting to know more about you" he told her while finally eating the fry to give it a chance.

"Wow, i died and came back" he chuckled. "Nah nah, but it's not bad actually" he admitted.

Romeo was outside helping grill. He was lucky he heard the last ring. It was Arien finally! He answered with no bad mood in sight. "Hey baby, what do you mean?" He asked stepping away from the grill.

"Today's Thanksgiving. I didn't think you had other plans so I wanted us to spend it together? You said you didn't have work right? So is perfect" he told her, his hand on his hip.

Maybe she sounded like that because he didn't tell her earlier? Could that be it? She usually updates him if she had a gig or something. He would've already known. So.... what was the issue?

"Did something happen? Are you okay?" He asked.

Maybe something did happen and she couldn't come? Or he wasn't seeing the whole picture. He wasn't sure what he was dosed to do, think, or say. Now his cool demeanor before diminished and his anxious nature returned. It's always something...

ISLA SERRANO
Isla watched him chew with raised brows, waiting for the verdict. When he admitted it wasn’t bad, she grinned triumphantly. “See? Don’t ever doubt me again. I don’t bring people into the fry cult lightly, Caelan.”

She took a fry for herself and leaned back against the booth, letting the warmth of the food and the comfort of the dim lights relax her after such a terrible day. There was a quietness in the bar she didn’t get anywhere else.

“Honestly?” She said after a moment. “Coming here and getting fries is way better than going home and eating another sad cup of ramen while I hide in my room from my roommate. Like, it’s either this, or convincing myself that dry cereal counts as dinner.”

Her tone was teasing as she looked him over. “You’re not a bad influence. You’re just... Accidentally part of the reason I found a spot that doesn’t make me wanna rip my hair out.” Her smirk returned. “So congratulations, I guess. You’re inspirational or whatever.”

A fry cult was ridiculous. If anyone else said that to him he'd clown them on the spot. His excuse was that she'd been having a bad day. That's what he told himself.

"You know, not to put my trainer hat back on or anything, but ramen is not good for your gains if you eat it often. Too salty" he said while sitting back in his seat, his shoulders broad.

"Wow an inspiration? That's a first. Maybe I should've had that recorded so you can't deny it" He told her.

"Like I said I only wanted one fry and I am the one that actually ate. You need to eat and if fries are the only thing then I'll shut up about training right now" he told her thinking to change the subject. "So does this mean we're, dare I say, friends?" Caelan laughed even asking. He's never asked that before, he's always assumed people he spent a lot of time with were his friend. Whether that be a good thing or a bad thing he didn't want to find out yet.

Braxton Nguyen & Sariyah Akeza {COLLAB}
Braxton had left the decision of what to do next up to Sariyah and after pondering it for a moment, she chose the tour. He looked at his mom. "Alright. I'm gonna show her around the house then we'll circle back and see if we're, uh, getting tired.”

“Well, baby, you know you always have a place to sleep…”

He smirked. “Yes, Mẹ, I know. We'll be back.” He pecked a quick kiss to his mother's cheek before taking Sariyah upstairs again… Which was probably perfect timing since they could put her shirt in the dryer.

“So, of course you saw the laundry room, and three of the four bedrooms are up here: my room, my parents’, and one guest room. The other is downstairs.” He held her hand as he showed her each bedroom.

~~~
“Your mom is so sweet like a pound cake. She probably just misses you.” Sariyah said as they went up the stairs. She was happy that he was showing her around, holding her hand. It was nice. You know what wasn't nice? Still smelling another woman on him. She didn't know when to bring it up. How did she even do that without seeming like she was doing too much?
After he showed her the bedrooms they had circled back to the laundry room. Her sweater was done and there seemed to be no stain in sight, thank goodness. After the dryer had started she cleared her throat a little.
“Um, Braxton? This might sound weird or something, but did she.. touch you at all? Like while you were outside? It's just that-I can smell her on you..” she asked him, not sure what she even wanted to hear.
~~~

He guessed Sariyah was right about his mother missing him; he probably shouldn't have been so quick to try to leave. He supposed he could live through a movie.

After showing her the bedrooms, they returned to the laundry room, placing her shirt in the dryer. Just as he thought they were heading out, he heard her speak and could tell by her tone that something was wrong.

He sort of froze when she spoke… Why? If it wasn't a big deal then why did he feel like he was in trouble? “She hugged me goodbye. That's all. …If you want me to change, I will.” He hadn't even thought about Cynthia wearing perfume; he was probably just so used to it that he didn't notice anymore.

~~~
“Ah, she did..” she said, crossing her arms under her chest as she pouted. “I don't want you to feel like you have to change. I'm just sad because she hugged you.. did you hug her back-” she said and put her hands on her face.
“-You're not mean or anything so actually.. haah it's fine if you did. I'm sorry, I've never been in this kind of position before” she told him as the sound of the dryer was making a slight noise.
Being jealous.. feeling this way. She didn't like it. She felt icky. She felt lonely for a moment. He said he's only focused on her then…why hug her back? Or even let her do that?
~~~

A hand moved to awkwardly rub the back of his neck. “I mean, I did… But, Sariyah, it's just a hug. It's not like she kissed me-’” He paused and sighed. “I'm sorry for dragging you into a mess. I promise it wasn't like this before; you're the only person I've dated since her, so I didn't know she'd be like this.” He did feel a little bad; she'd asked him on their first date if there were any crazy women in his life. He just didn't know yet…

“Here,” he conceded, pulling his sweater over his head and tossing it on top of the wash. “No more Cynthia.” The air was a little cooler on his skin than he expected and he crossed his arms over his chest to preserve warmth.

~~~
Be patient. He had Cynthia for an ex. Maybe it was different? Maybe she would have to give him an example? That seemed like nagging though right?
“Well if a guy hugged me and you smelled his cologne would you feel some type of way?” She asked, trying to gauge where his head space was.
Then he took off his shirt. “I-...Braxton you didn't have to do that…am I just tweaking? Is this not normal to do?” She asked, trying to see if maybe she was the problem
~~~

“If it were a friend, I'd be fine. I can't stop you from having a social life and expressing affection.” Even though he said “friend”, he somehow felt like he made it sound worse. …How would he feel if her ex hugged her? Honestly, wary, but probably fine. He just wasn't the jealous type. Wait. Was she jealous?

“I don't know... If you're uncomfortable, you're uncomfortable.” He shrugged. “I didn't know it was a problem. I just won't do it again.”

~~~
“You say it so easily.. maybe it is just me” she sighed while looking at him. He makes this all look like butter. He's doing things I didn't even ask him to do at all just because I'm uncomfortable.
“I just don't want her to think that she has any chance of getting back together with you-” she started while her gaze looked down towards her boots.
“-I know I said I wasn't really jealous, but maybe that was because I was never really scared to lose anyone. I don't want that to happen” she said softly. “Not with you..”
~~~

He couldn't withhold his chuckles. “I promise you Cynthia doesn't want me like that. …But even if she did, she lost me, I didn't lose her.”

He noticed the way her gaze averted and her voice softened. “...You're afraid to lose me…?” He spoke the words slowly, letting them sink in. “Sariyah,” he started, moving his fingers to gently tilt her chin to look him in the face, “you trust me, right?”

~~~
When he said it out loud it was like it was very clear to her that her feelings were not going anywhere. That this was not just some crush or some fling that she will barely think about. She's hooked on him and if anything were to happen she knew she'd break.
As her brown eyes focused on him she scanned his face and slowly nodded. “Yes, I trust you-of course I trust you” she said to him honestly. “I just don't trust her…” she admitted with a weight on her heart.
~~~

Maybe he just wasn't getting it. “I care about you, Sariyah, but I can only make promises for myself; I can't control what anyone else does. I can talk to her a thousand times over and still have no power. …Sariyah, I don't know what you want from me.” He gestured as he spoke now, a little frustration building. He didn't even really understand if he was supposed to be in trouble… Or was this just a conversation?

~~~
Sariyah paused for a second, blinking slowly to process. She ended up taking one small step back before shaking her head. “Nothing, I don't want anything from you. If you don't see anything wrong then we don't have anymore to talk about” she said not looking at him anymore.
“I'm gonna go downstairs, you should put a shirt on..” she told him while she walked past him. Was this the equivalent to running away from problems? Was this a problem…was she blowing out of proportion?
If we talked anymore it might've blown up and I don't want to do that here. Not in a house with his parents. I don't want memories of Thanksgiving to be us yelling at each other upstairs in his parents' laundry room..but he really doesn't see an issue..
As she went downstairs she quietly stepped out the backyard for some fresh air. Maybe some cool breeze will calm her down.
Sebastian waited.
The cold air didn’t bother him, not really not when everything inside him had already gone numb the moment Roman opened his mouth. He stood at the edge of the long stone driveway that curved into the estate, hands tucked into the pockets of his coat, expression unreadable as always. Behind him, the mansion buzzed softly with life Thanksgiving warmth and laughter spilling from tall windows but none of it reached him. Not this year.
Not after this.
The gravel crunched lightly beneath his boots as he shifted his stance, slow and deliberate. His gaze remained on the gate, unmoving. There was no checking his phone, no pacing, no fidgeting. Just that still, steady silence that always seemed to surround him when he was at war with himself. He had been raised to carry things with control to walk through fire and not make a sound. But Kalila had been the exception. She had been the soft place where his rigid world cracked. And now, he’d watched that world split right down the middle. He hadn’t meant to lie. But omission had its own sharp teeth, and he felt every single one now. Jo. The engagement. The arrangement he never asked for.
He never wanted Kalila to find out like this. Not through Roman, and definitely not before he could sit down and explain though even that word felt insufficient for what it really was. He had wanted time. Time to figure out how to say that he had been falling for her before he even realized it. That every time she smiled, something inside him softened. That every time she touched his arm in passing, it was the only warmth he felt all day. That she had become more real to him than every plan his parents ever forced onto him. But now… she knew. And she might never look at him the same again. He inhaled slowly through his nose, jaw tight, chest rising beneath his dark overcoat. A silver watch glinted against his wrist. The only thing that broke the image of him being carved from stone was the flicker of conflict in his eyes buried deep, but still there for anyone who looked closely enough. He was waiting for her. And he didn’t expect forgiveness. He didn’t even expect understanding. But she said she’d come, and that meant something.
Even if it ended with a slap to the face.
If that was what she needed, he’d take it.
He’d take all of it.
Anxiety and excitement buzzed in Orisha's stomach the during the entire trip to Missouri. She was of course thrilled to be travelling with Smi. To see where he came from. But also nervous about the impression she'd make.
She had thankfully been talked out of bringing the cookies she'd baked by her best friend Amy, but that didn't mean accidentally humiliating herself was completely off the table. Until they were in the car, most of the trip was spent in comfortable silence as they worked among side each other on their respective music projects.
Even if she sometimes felt out of her depth at DuBois, there would always be music to keep her feeling connected to her partner. She ran a finger through her long sengalese twists, freshly done before the trip and nodded as she listened to Smi.
"Speak to everyone. Don't eat until after the blessing. Don't play spades. Only take a plate of offered. Got it." She perked up and smiled turning to face him in her seat.
"And I have plenty of experience of people asking ignorant questions! But I know they never mean any harm. I still can't believe I'm meeting your family! Makes me wonder when I'll get to bring you to Oz."
He’d told his folks about her a hundred times, but now that she was really here, really coming home with him, it felt different. His mom had texted three times already—Do they eat what we eat?—like Ori was some kind of foreign alien instead of just a girl who laughed too loud and trusted too easy. Smi smirked to himself. His family would eat her up in the best way possible.
"You fasho gone have to let me come down your way shawty. I'm tryna meet that sisters of yours you be talkin about so much.." he laughed a bit returning his attention to the road.
His fingers tightened slightly on the wheel as they passed the first weathered house, its red paint peeling under years of Midwestern storms and lack of care due to poverty. Ori would love it here—or at least, he hoped she would. And if she didn’t? Well at least she hoped she'd still like him, but he prayed that his family adored her the way he did.
Kalila texted him and they agreed to meet in from off his parents place, ironically. People who don't know about her existence other than maybe 1 or 2. It just div the knife deeper knowing that. She casted those feelings away as she got changed and started heading over.
Luckily she had a backup plan of things for too intense or ended abruptly. Knowing that made her ease.
All she'd been doing was thinking about what to say when she saw him again and what she'd do, but that pit in her stomach as the gate opened and she saw him standing there was something she didn't expect. She had pulled up into a spot before parking and took a deep breath before heading out the car.
The happiness from before was gone and now that weighted on her heart was pure sadness. Her eyes weren't as bright,but as she looked from the house behind him with the soft bustling noise to just the silent him. She could feel the tears start welling up. He hadn't seen her cry and now it's going to be because of him.
Kalila quickly wiped her cheek before speaking, her voice hoarse and cracking from all the emotions hitting her at once. Maybe seeing him, smelling his scent, being this close to him was a bad idea..
"I dont..want to keep you out here long so..talk" she said, her arms crossed over her chest to try and ground herself from whatever he was about to say.
His smile brightened as she went along with what he'd said instead of making him feel weird about it. He always knew she wasn't like most girls he ran into or saw on the internet, but this confirmed it. He chuckled, "I don't know, might have to tell them the full back story of why you paid for dinner to save some face."
He nodded as they settled in the car and she told him her choice, "Baskin and car, got it. It's fine to get whatever you like. I like things to be neat, but I'm not afraid to clean." He explained. "I'm not scared of a little mess." He joked.
He couldn't help the smirk that curled onto his lips seeing her face beat red. "I'll think of something. Still got a few tricks up my sleeves." He teased shooting her a wink. "Plus how boring of a future boyfriend would I be if all I can think of is a dinner and ice cream date?" He hoped dropping the boyfriend word would let her know he definitely wanted more dates with her. With that he started up the car and they were off to Baskin's.
"I uh, I don't know if this is too early to bring up, but I figure it'll save possible confusion. I've told you I date with intention, so just so you know I consider this to be exclusive you know? I know some people don't until a label has been put on it, and I understand if you feel that way too. I'll respect it, but on my end it's just me and you talking. But I'd rather know now then find out later if you feel the other way." And he meant it. IF she felt like this should just be considered talking and she should be able to talk to other people he'd understand, and it wouldn't change how he feels. He just wanted to be prepared is all. It would suck to find out the hard way you're not the only one.
Shai Moss
For a moment, Kendrick just glowered at him and Shai started to regret offering up that extra big, cheesy smile. But in the next moment, as if his assessment of him had finished processing, he shook his hand and pulled him in for a hardy hug. Honestly, even without staring him down, he hadn't expected that but he didn't mind. At least her brother didn't seem to be that brooding, drilling, you better not be touching my sister guy - not yet anyway. Before he could even begin to help, her brother had grabbed up their bags, throwing them into the back of the jeep and insisted they get out of the cold. There was no arguing there.
Gen had gotten in the front as he suggested and he took the next row of seats, sitting behind her. The heat pumping through the vehicle was welcomed and brought his attention to just how cold his face had gotten. Ah, you had to love a northern winter; it definitely reminded you were alive. Gen and Ken (had her parents done that on purpose?) were surprisingly quiet upfront; he expected the siblings to have more to say and share with each other. He guessed not. She had mentioned the ride home taking about an hour and, from the airport, that wasn't too bad. He peered out of the window at the passing cars and streets of the highway until they made it into the city where there were sights to see and gawk at. It made him wondered what all Gen had on her list to show him and if they'd have time to see it all...
He didn't even realize that she had fallen asleep until the car came to a stop in front of a large, manicured house and Kendrick was nudging her awake. Once they were inside with their things, Gen closed the door and plopped onto the bed. Shai made a low chuckle as he sat beside her. "You're navigating. So your brain still has to work... Besides, you can never get too comfortable in a new place." He pulled his hair out of its puff before slicking it back to tie it up again. "I know you've got big plans for me, so what's the agenda while we're here? ...Also, tell me if I'm nuts, but your strict parents are really letting us room together?" His brow arched with his words.
Gen giggled as he sat beside her. This felt so good and she wanted to savor this feeling for as long as she could. For just this week she wanted to forget about everything back at school, and just live. "True, and my plans mostly involve showing you how bomb our food is around here. Pretty sure it's why everyone ain't left yet." She joked. Well mostly, there were other reasons, but they weren't as comical.
She sat up straight and pecked his cheek, "Of course not. But we can be in here together during the day time!" She hummed. "I'll be sharing a room with my brother like we're 12 at night. Though I'm pretty sure I'll annoy him to the point of him picking the couch so there's that." She shrugged playfully. Truthfully that was her plan because she was positive he snores, and she wasn't going to live like that. She kinda wish they'd let her being she's a full grown woman now, but they already thought the worst of her, so adding potential "baby mama" to that list wasn't going to happen on their watch. "I can also show you were I used to hang out a lot when I was little." She smiled. It was just a rooftop, but hey it was something.
"Anything you wanna see while here? We can do some of the regular touristy things too if you want." she added.
Destiny laughed hearing the whistle as she hopped in the car. She was more excited to see him then she'd ever admit aloud or to herself honestly. "A surprise? I do love a good surprise, so I'd actually be mad if you spoiled it so soon." She giggled strapping in and leaning the seat back a bit so she could relax. Perhaps she got too comfortable too fast with people, but she's never been the time to ease into something. She liked to dive in and see how people reacted.
She playfully rolled her eyes at his question, "From the sounds of it you're the one missing me boo." She smirked. She told herself it's just out of boredom, that he was simply the best offer. He was just a hot guy who gave her a tatt and food. So why was she smiling so big? "Unless the surprise is Karaoke then you can tell me so I can warn you, that singing is not my calling."
"Mhm save SOME face" she laughed as she saw his shoulders relax in the seat. When he said he wasn't scared of a little mess she really did have to bring her thoughts out of the gutter. Luckily her face was already red. "You'd love my nail room then, the polishes are categorized in color and alphabetical prefer" she said proud of herself.
Boyfriend... are we still ah... are we still on jokes or is he serious? She asked herself.
Don't get your hopes up too fast, he'll let you know, right?
How right she was. Penelope blinked slowly to process. She didn't want to interrupt him or talk immediately after- she wasn't desperate. He knows what he wants. He's not hesitant and he is pestering with telling her. How could she think about anyone else?
"Leon, I'm very..selective with people I give my time to. I put my eggs into one basket so if you're saying you won't be scared about that or feel like I'm not too much in your space then I don't think we have anything to worry about."
Obsessed. Obsessed. Obsessed! Holy fuck, just look at him. I'm looking at him- but fuck..
Pen leaned over the middle console and kissed his cheek, soft and deliberate, before pulling away. "I like the idea of you giving all of your attention to me.. is that selfish?" She asked him, looking at him with her brown eyes and dilated pupils. Her gaze lingering on his lips a second longer than a glance before falling back in her seat.
"Thats what I like to hear- you more excited than I thought you'd be. That's good" he said as he started to drive off after her seatbelt clicked. His hand reached over to grab hers and put it up to his lips. "I did miss you and the time that we had. I'll admit what I like and what I want" he said boldly, giving the back of her hand a kiss before he kept her hand in his.
"As for karaoke? No nothing like that, don't worry. I'm not that mean" he laughed, coming up on a red light. "It's something I know you want though and that's all I'll say about it. No more hints" he winked before the light turned green. He sure was a charmer when he wanted to be.
He hoped she didn't think he was too much, but he meant what he said. He likes what he likes and he'll tell you straight up. It's a blessing and a curse sometimes. "Now, you can eat as much as you want when we get there. If I have to go on the grill again until your satisfied I will. She playfully rolled her eyes before taking out her phone to find a good playlist to turn on, "Mind if I play some music on the way?" She hummed. She was surprised when he took her hand in his and kissed it. That was more gentlemanly than she expected. Straight forward. She liked it. No need to guess. "I see, and what do you want?" She smirked leaning in close to his ear. She was playing with fire a bit, but she liked it. She liked that he gave as good as he took.
She raised a brow at his statement, "Oh and you know what I want? This should be good." She smiled biting her lip lightly in anticipation. Could he really know her pretty well after only one hang out? Or was it something she mentioned to him, and forgot? She did talk a lot more then normal last time, so that was possible. "I hope you mean that cause don't let this pretty lil thing fool you. Ya girl can put away from food." She laughed before letting her eyes fall on their hands still together. "You should should me all your ink at some point." She spoke with a coy smile letting her free hand trace the exposed ink on his hand slowly up his arm.
COLLAB W/AkuTheWolfOkami
Ciara was a complicated kinda woman. She was also someone who knew what she wanted, and was willing to do what it took to get it. Be that working hard, or steppin on others who were in the way. Where she got this mentality from her own family never understood, but she didn't care about all that. She was going to always be 100% unapologetically herself. The only person who even came close to unraveling all that for the better was her ex-husband Majid. For what it's worth in her mind she did love him. As much as her heart and mind could love another person on this planet outside her family. So in her mind right now, this was her fighting for her marriage. He promised her forever and she'd be damned if she let another bitch swoop in and take it from her without something going down.
To be fair she hoped that wasn't the case. Part of her really believed showing up to his place on Thanksgiving with his dad would show Majid that she was willing to try and be …something. Better is the right word, but she couldn't really promise better, maybe just enough. She hoped he'd realized, in this time a part, that she wasn't so bad and he missed her. After all it's not a crime to like things. It's not a crime to want to show those things off. He led with flashing his money when they started dating, so there had to be a part of him that knew that too right? So with that she rang the doorbell to a place she remembered all too well.
________________________________
Nasser Al-Khalifa was not a demanding man, of his children at least. The only thing he expected from them was their best. Yet, for some reason of his three children Majid seemed to be the only one who defied him. He wanted to be more frustrated, but truthfully he knew the world was changing and what he thought Majid should be and what Majid wanted to be didn’t match.
He wanted him to be more like Anwar, his brother, into business, very ambitious. Even Asha, his sister, though she was defying their cultural beliefs in fashion, acting, and modeling, she still made sure to be respectful to their family name and kingdom , and was known all across the world for it and still a very ambitious business woman. Majid? Just ….all this singing and emotions…why? Why this tiny school in backwoods Georgia? Why Asha and he couldn’t swap….he’d love that.
But he wanted to connect more to his son, to be more supportive and Allah-willing, he’d be able to participate in his interests. So when his wife, Ciara, reached out he couldn’t help but agree to her request to join her in coming to thanksgiving on Majid’s terms. So there he stood behind her, in his most casual wear, which was still pretty much traditional for the region, with his royal security team parked off far enough to not be seen as they waited for his son to open the door.
He chuckled, "Sounds like paradise." He joked playfully nudging her as they pulling into the Baskin Robbins drive through line. "But really you should show me your place. It'd be cool to see you in your element for a change." He smiled. He wanted to see her in more comfortable places since so far he only got to see a slightly stressed for math books version of Pen. Well before today.
He shook his head, "Nah I'm glad we're on the same page. So what would you like to order?" He asked, trying to quell the rise in his own face. He cleared his throat a bit, "I tend to go for anything Oreo." He admitted.
He was pleasantly surprised by the soft peck on the cheek she'd given him. It made him feel good that she was feeling more and more comfortable. More willing to put herself out there. He turned to look at her as she spoke, "Nah, cause you got it." He spoke and finally took that last leap of faith and gently leaned over to give a soft kiss. "You've got me Pen, don't worry." He smiled.
"Yeah I'll show you my place whenever you want to see it. I'll do your fingernails- give you a mani" she joked. As he said Oreo was his go to she nodded, "I just knew you'd say something so simple" she clowned as if he option was better. "I'm kidding I'm kidding, I'll probably get strawberry to be honest. Anything strawberry imma sucker" she admitted.
Pen wasn't sure what she was expecting at his words,but the soft feeling of his lips made her breathless and short circuit.
"You've got me Pen don't worry"
It was like something out of a movie, was she dreaming? She had to be sure, so she leaned in and kissed him back. It was slow and soft-like, matching his energy. She pulled away after as if she stayed in that position she wasn't sure what she'd do. Well she at least knew that ice cream would've not been an option anymore.
"You've always had my attention Leon" she told him, pushing her fallen hair behind her ears again, with a small bite of her lip.
Braxton Nguyen & Sariyah Akeza {COLLAB, pt. 2}
His eyes widened slightly when she spoke. He hadn't expected that reaction from her or those words. She pushed past him and he called after her, but as he expected, she kept going. His hands arched into claws as he growled in frustration. Right about now, he was agreeing with his middle school self: girls were complicated and difficult. Guys were always an option… But they were weird and gross, and he really wasn't trying to feel on anyone else's muscles or kiss a stubbly face. He quivered at the thought.
Yeah, nevermind.
He went to his room, looking for something warm to slip on, but he figured a t-shirt and a coat would have to do. He was quiet as he headed downstairs, but still, he caught his mother's attention.
“Braxton? Is everything okay?”
“Yeah. It's good, Mom. Have you seen Sariyah?”
Tiffany made a concerned smirk but she didn't press. “She went that way.” She gestured toward the back of the house.
“Thanks.” He swiftly headed in that direction. It wasn't until he peaked through the blinds at the back door that he saw her. He slowly opened the door and was silent as he stepped outside. His hands were jammed into his jacket pockets.
“Sariyah, it's cold… Please come inside... I'm sorry.” His tone was soft and apologetic now.
~~~

Sariyah was looking up at the sky, the pretty colors and the moon that started to shine. The cold ended up feeling numb pretty quick as she took deep breathes, her nose and ears getting red from the temperature.

It wasn't until she heard her name that she snapped out of it, practically jumping out of her skin. She held her chest as she gasped. “I didn't hear you come out,” she said, glancing at him while taking a breath. “Why are you apologizing?” She asked him, her hands crossed in front of her.

Do you even know? Is it a sorry, can we please move away from the subject? Is it a sorry to shut me up? To make me satisfied?

~~~
He sighed again. “I'm sorry for upsetting you. I didn't mean to make you feel unheard. I'm trying, Sariyah.” He paused. “I told you it won't happen again. And you don't have to worry about losing me; no one's taking me away from you.” He gradually approached while he spoke until coming to a stop beside her.
He took a moment to look out at the night as well, the brisk air making him feel more present. “This is about us and our time together, remember? Let's not let anyone ruin or waste it.” He attempted to put his arm around her shoulders. “I'm happy you came with me today, and despite the drama, I still had a great time just because you were here.”
~~~

He sounds like..he means it. He sounds like it's not empty words and here I am still in doubt. Probably from trauma I have? I told him I trust him-and I do. I do…

When he put his arm around her shoulder she didn't shrug him off. She allowed herself to feel his warmth.

She sighed as her body slightly moved into him. “Despite the drama I'm happy as well..”she mumbled, trying to be positive. Trying for him. “I love your mom and your dad, I apologized to them already, but today really meant a lot to me” she said finally looking at him. There was still tension, but it was slight. Nobody is perfect.

“I'm sorry as well, I…could've communicated my feelings better instead of blowing up a bit at you. I guess I could've toned it down and maybe then you would've understood better before..”

I just feel for you so much I'm going crazy or seems.

~~~
She let his arm stay. That was a good sign. He wouldn't overstep his welcome though.
“You don't have to apologize. You didn't expect to deal with anything that happened today. It was probably overwhelming on top of already meeting my parents. …I didn't say anything earlier, but I know you were emotional. I'm sorry for putting you in the middle.” He gave her a squeeze, hugging her close. “But you know you can come to me with anything, right?. I mean, there's not a whole lot worse you can drop on me than when you told me you'd have to go back home.” He chuckled. “So you should be pretty brave.”
The cold was beginning to seep through his jacket. With just a t-shirt underneath, it gave him a little shiver. “We should go back inside before we get sick… Are you ready to head home or did you want to stay longer? I think your shirt should be dry by now…”
~~~

Sariyah couldn't help the tears forming in her eyes. “I-I know that..” she said trying to bonk away all the moisture. She didn't cry for a while and now that she has heavy feelings for a man it was like waterworks.

The squeeze he gave her helped her to smile, even just a little bit. “Right, I don't have anything else like that in my closet” she sniffles.

She thought about how his mom acted before they went upstairs. He doesn't seem to come home that often. “Let's go home after we watch a movie with your mom. I think she'd like that, wouldn't you? If you need us to switch and I drive later that's alright as well” she told him, trying to take his feelings into account still.

~~~
He chuckled. “Good. But if something does come up, tell me.” He noticed her sniffle, but decided not to mention it. She probably was just overwhelmed by everything still.
“You're right,” he sighed. “A movie with mom and then we'll go home. We'll see how I feel after.” It had been a long day; he hadn't even thought about whether he'd be tired on the drive home. It also made him realize he'd never seen her drive; he always took them places. …Did he trust her to drive? To be fair, if they were going stereotype for stereotype, she trusted him, so he had to trust her.
“Are you still upset with me?” Am I allowed to ask that? “I mean, if you are, I get it and I'll give you space.”
~~~

“Don't worry I have to drive careful anyway or I could potentially go back. I haven't had any tickets ever though so you're in good hands” she said trying to ease his mind if there was any doubt.

She took his question and let it marinate for a second. The tension had died down from earlier expeditiously. Sariyah sighed and finally wrapped her arms around him tightly while he body relaxed. “I'm more upset at the situation than at you. It's just something I have to get over so if I'm quiet with you on the ride home please don't think I hate you just- hold my thigh or hand or something” she told him. She felt how thin his clothes were and spoke up again. “You're right let's go inside, you're freezing” she said opening the door to lead him inside.

ISLA SERRANO
Isla’s eyes flicked to Caelan as he leaned back, his trainer mode clearly trying to peek through again. She rolled her eyes dramatically.

“Oh my God, Caelan, are you giving me a sodium lecture right now?” She said with a huff, waving a fry at him. “You’re literally sitting in a booth at a bar that serves fried pickles and beer towers. The last thing you should be doing is coming for my ramen.”

But as he went on, saying he’d shut up about training and picking on her about her compliment, she giggled. "Well, don't get too used to it. Isla compliments only come out when I'm sad. And today counts for that."

Her expression softened, but only a little. And then he said the word friends and for some odd reason, that caused both butterflies and disappointment to settle in her stomach. Partially because she enjoyed being around him, and partially because how come he'd be okay with asking out her cousin and not her? Was there something wrong with her?

Before she could say anything about that though, the music shifted. A familiar song began to play from the speakers and she gasped, suddenly standing up with a rush of excitement. “No way, they’re playing this?” She said, already shimmying in place. A few older couples were sliding onto the tiny dance floor near the jukebox.

Isla looked back at Caelan, her eyes bright, a mischievous smile tugging at her lips. “Alright, enough deep talk shit. Get your giant gym rat self up,” She said, reaching for his hand. “We’re dancing. And if you say no, I’m dragging you out there anyway. You owe me for all the slander since I started training with you.”

ALFIE BESSA
Alfie leaned in to look at the photo, and despite himself, his brows lifted a little.

"Okay, that’s actually kinda sick,” He admitted, eyes flicking from the screen to the rusted chaos around them. “How the hell did you make this look like art?”

He shook his head, scoffing quietly. “You’re a menace. A weird, talented menace.”

Then, turned back to Ben. “Sooo what about that old tin can over there?” He asked, pointing to an old can with a weed sprouting from the dirt in it.

Shai Moss
"Hey, you know I love food. So I'm down for it." Shai wasn't picky and would probably eat anything Gen took him out for so long as they weren't full on Thanksgiving dinner. Then again, he wondered if her parents would find eating out offensive instead of finishing off the food that was here. His biggest goal with meeting her parents and spending time here was just not to misstep. He wanted to keep her life as easy as possible and he knew she had to really like him, trust him, or both to bring him around. Really like me, huh? That thought shouldn't have made him pause. As long as they'd been dating now, they should be fully comfortable as a couple and not just healthy competition. He had to work harder to change that narrative.

And on cue with his thoughts, she kissed his cheek. "Yeah, I thought I knew better." He chuckled. There was nothing that could happen here that didn't already happen at school, but he guessed he understood their perspective. Though, he couldn't fathom sharing a bed with a family member at this age. Maybe that was perfectly normal and he was just some level of spoiled, but he hadn't been in a bed with either of his parents since he was probably 10. "Well, if you do manage to push your brother away, I could always sneak over for a night." He flashed her a crooked smile.

"Yeah, show me everything there is to know about pre-Shai Genesis." He chuckled. What better way to be brought closer than to learn more about her? "This is probably stupid corny to you, but I do want to see that big bean thing and take a picture." He shrugged lightly. "It always looked cool in the photos... We have to come back whenever they dye the river. I've heard about that too."

"Well I didn't have other plans but that was before I didn't hear from you all day. You said you were closing, usually that means I won't see you until the next day so yeah, I was asked to come out and I went." She paused for a moment, trying to control her tone and now sound as increasingly irritated as she was getting. Why had it not occurred to him that maybe she wanted to spend the whole day with him? Maybe she wouldn't mind helping out at the bakery, he never even presented the idea of bonding time between her and his aunt.

"And it sounds like you're already there anyway so thanks for considering the fact that I might not want to show up alone." She'd met a few members of his family, some planned some not. Each time she asked him to wait for her before he went inside, the mere thought of even walking in alone made her anxious. Walking into a club alone and walking into a house full of people you have to impress are two completely different things. "Maybe I'll just see you after." As she was speaking she got a text, pulling her phone back a bit to see. She sighed, expecting it to be a friend or family member but instead it was just another promoter. She put the phone back to her ear, covering her other ear with her hand when a group of loud men walked out.
