Introduction:
Please note that the only things your character will start the roleplay with are: their appearance, congenital character traits, along with deep-rooted fears. Tale as long as time, the ultimate nature vs nurture. Hopefully, we'll get a chance to explore that in the rp. ^^

That is also the reason why the following sections of the template are highlighted on the forefront of the CS, while others can (and probably should) be dismissed by other players for now. So I will ask that they are put in some kind of a spoiler like in the template. But of course, I'll leave it all to your discretion.

I know I'm a little cryptic but that's hopefully the part of fun!

TITLE

Please choose (from the list or make up your own) the "title" that best describes who your character is at the core. Not who they appear to be due to their job and such, but who they really are.

I hope this is not too confusing. The title doesn't have to be literal (doesn't have to tie to who they are at work). You could call a fragile librarian a " warrior" if that's who they are at heart, even if they were never recognized as one or weren't forced by circumstances to act like one.

As always, ask away if you are unsure about anything! Here is a generic list of potential titles, feel free to pick a different one if you come up with something fitting: handyman, empath, jack of all trades, black sheep, protector, optimist, innocent, caretaker, workhorse, leader, brains, engineer, geek, soldier, technician, scholar, dark horse, etc.

odd skill

This is the one I "spoiled" in the OOC thread. Can be a hard skill (measurable, like cooking) or soft skill (strong common sense).

Guidelines:
- this can be any type of believable, existing nowadays (or in the near future) type of ability a human can possess
- it has to be grounded in reality and science
- based on your character's personality, pick a number on a scale of 1 to 10 to indicate how good they are. 1 is a novice, 10 is an expert. You shouldn't choose numbers below 5
- you can pick up to three skills in this section but all of them need to be strictly connected. So you can eg choose that your character is a capable martial artist. Then the other two abilities could be dexterity and discipline. Or maybe your character is good at problem-solving, then additional abilities could be analytical thinking and decisiveness.
- to give a few more examples of basic skills: leadership, arts, biology, electronics, gymnastics, engineering, sustained concentration, etc.
- remember, this ability should (doesn't have to but it's preferred) contrast against their other abilities connected to job or hobby

AILMENTS

Any sort of health issues belong here. Could be something as simple as nearsightedness, or as serious as paraplegia.

As I previously mentioned in the OOC thread, our characters will wake up only with their clothes on, no other objects or gear of any kind (like glasses or a wheelchair). That doesn't mean you're not allowed to create a disadvantaged character.

I was internally debating if and to what extent reveal my plan for such characters but I didn't find a good way of explaining this without spoiling part of the story. So I will just assure you that as long as your character is not originally completely paralyzed, I should be able to make things work. Even if they needed some special equipment that wouldn't be there. All I ask is for you to keep an open mind and remember there is a reasonable plan behind every, even surprising phenomenon in this story. Sorry to be so quizzical again!

Secret Memory:
It's going to be a single yet significant memory that affected your character's life. To give an example, your character's CS might mention that they are a popular lawyer, living in the suburbs, and playing tennis on the weekends. But their secret memory, that you'll PM to me instead of posting, could be that your character [Trigger Warning?] killed their parents at an early age to inherit their money... Or perhaps something less gruesome! Maybe they won a lottery and that's why they're wealthy?

Anyway, as you can see, that memory doesn't have to be intrinsically negative. But the more controversial it is the better :>

As Logan grew up they thought being an intellectual had passed his genes, however nothing was less true. He was very ingenious as he differed from the other kids by making every situation profitable for him – even a nine year old could sell these cookies for a bargain deal apparently. He was never very creative but surely more clever than he appeared..

This speaks for itself, Logan was always a very mouthy kid and could never shut up. He loved babbling on and on; but also had an answer to everything. He was like a walking google at some point but without the knowledge.

Logan was born reckless, he loved doing things that weren't allowed or driving the fastest on his bike and surpassing all the cars giving every single driver a mini heartattack. Logan enjoyed these moments as he felt invisible and powerful, like nothing could ever hurt him.

Logan had always been a charming, young man. He was always very sociable and his good humor got him through a lot of situations; especially between his parents divorce. He came from a wealthy family and this made him more materialistic than he wanted to become, Logan heard the way to happiness was to be financially successful – a lot of pressure for a young man like him.

He had always been very competitive and especially when it came to his older brothers, even a bit envious of them being the parent's favorites. He would sometimes cheat and lie to get his way so that Logan would get the praise and attention he craved for, this continued for him even when he got older – as it went him off easy to be a little devious at times. So underneath his charming smile he could be quite the thundercloud.

Though he'd sometimes play the system to get things his way, he always stayed well-mannered and determined. He was great at solving arguments and was very diplomatic, Logan knew what to say to get the right results for not only himself but for others too. This made him appear like he would do anything for the other person but that was less than true, he could be a big coward at times – especially when it came to confrontations about something he had done. He rather avoided those things by never talking about it again and every secret he had, he'd take to the grave but a secret someone else had could be a great profit for himself.

Being competitive with his brothers also made them a lot closer, he was always very caring as he didn't want them to get hurt by his parents messy divorce that left scars on them all. He wanted to save them from the colloidal damage that might come to them which actually made him more caring than he thought he was.

Logan was born in Canada but moved to Montana when he was twelve years old, he was part of a big family and lived in a big house his whole life. They looked like a perfect family but a year later, his parents turned a messy divorce towards the family. It was everybody's fault and mostly Logan, as he always had been a troubled child. Logan rebelled as much as he could against the divorce and did everything he could to gain back positive attention, though nothing would help and fix what had happened.
Logan's parents eventually divorced and the children transported from the one house to the other, except Logan, who sticked with his dad through out it all. When Logan was twenty-one, he joined his father and his three brothers in the business – a small insurance company named after their grandpa. Even though, Logan was having a stable job and eventually even got himself a girlfriend – the corporate life bored him more than anything else he could imagine and his family noticed. He would often not show up and if he did show up, barely do any work.

After a big falling out with his father, he'd turned to another thriving business. He would sell used cars as new; this was obviously a bit of a sketchy company but Logan loved it there. He was the best seller and people praised him there, unlike where he had to work before. Logan had always been good with numbers and was even allowed to do the finances, they would make lots of money and it made Logan's satisfaction even greater. He could buy whatever he wanted and did, he was definitely not staying on the low and boasted about his money a lot.

This obviously made the business make a lot more name for it selves and not much later they got questioned, once the questioning had began, Logan panicked despite his co-workers trying to keep their cool. Though, deep inside they probably knew what was going to happen to them too, the evidence was right on the table. Luckily for them, a day later the business caught on fire – with most of the paperwork burned but also unfortunately a lot of their money. Logan had to start all over again and saw the messy divorce of their parents happening with now his beautiful girlfriend and himself. She announced she was pregnant, two days after the fire and they tried to make it work by sticking together but it sure cost a lot of work.

Logan had since then started up his own business, doing the exact same thing as he did when he was younger, selling used cars as new. Because of his name being known around the area, this goes a lot less profitable than he was used too. Though, he tried to stay positive; he has little hope in him left.

an interactive poster of the movie space invasion (i made this up i don't know if this is possible in their timeline lol), a movie he saw when he was twelve year old with his older brothers. It was something Logan never forgot as they sneaked him into the movie theatre; hiding the young Logan in the men's toilet. The movie was gruesome and the virtual reality effects only made it feel more real. Logan had nightmares for the next three weeks but none of the brothers had told their mother why; a pleasant memory Logan held dear to his heart.

  Anais was born the daughter of a migrant, fleeing a wretched life in Europe with nothing but a plane ticket, the clothes on her back and a child in her womb. For the meagre few years she spent with her mother, Anais never knew the reason why she left her home across the Atlantic. Sure she'd asked, but it was met with silence. The perceptive child knew not to ask again. They never had much, but they eventually got by, especially after her stepfather came into the picture. When she was barely a decade old, Anais lost her mother to an untimely death. Life was never the same after that.

  Wildflowers In A Garden

  Stuck in an abusive home for much of her teenage years, an education was her way out and she took it. Working insane hours whenever she could, to buy her ticket out of hell; perhaps not so different from her mother who did it all those years ago. Finally graduating as a nurse, she left her home and never looked back.
  
  A few years later and a chance job opening saw Anais working as a product specialist for a cutting-edge stem cell research facility, assisting in curative treatments for those who could afford it.

  Favorite Item || His grandfather’s glasses. Classy, tortoiseshell, rather old school, he inherited them when his grandfather died and Winston, to his delight, discovered they had the same prescription. Winston has a lot of his grandfather's belongings, but seeing as the glasses are one he gets to wear constantly, he loves them dearly.
  
  Personality || In Winston’s other life, he was simply put, a pushover. Kind, polite, but ultimately timid, Winston allowed anyone and everyone to walk all over him. It was always misguided by some internal dialogue that made him feel like allowing someone to use or abuse him would be in their best interest, and all his life, he wanted to help other people. It would be foolish to think that allowing everyone to get ahead of you could ever make anyone really truly happy, but Winston got so used to it that he eventually gave up on himself. What use is goodness if you are not good to yourself?
  
  Winston often found himself very comfortable in routine and mundane day to day life. He could live a whole week under the same cycle and not much flinch if he had responsibilities to attend to, to keep him occupied from being confronted with the sadness of his mediocrity. Despite the high class lifestyle that he grew up with, he never seemed to act with any of the privilege that came with it, and if anything, it wore and weighed down on him more than it lifted him up. He felt he would never measure up to his family, his brothers, and allowed this childhood insecurity to guide the rest of his life into going unnoticed and feeling constantly out of place.
  
  He buried most of his worries by putting others ahead of him, and found solace in business. Hard work never felt very rewarding to him, but it was something societally acceptable that made him feel like he was doing what he was supposed to as a member of this world. Thinking for himself, for his own wants and desires, was never something Winston ever gave himself the chance to do.
  
  Strengths || Kind -- Always treating everyone above himself, Winston would often go above and beyond to help a coworker, a classmate, or someone in need.
  Smart -- Through years of study, betterment and challenge in the way of school and work, Winston has a very sharp mind, and it is honed into his line of work. Handling business, whipping up spreadsheets, office routines.
  Hard working -- Though not often guided by his own wants, Winston is extremely good at putting his nose to the grindstone and did a lot of great work for whomever he was working under.

  Main Skills || Analytical Mind -- Winston was always excellent at school, a natural born mind for the STEM aspects of work and life. He’s become extremely proficient in math (can do a great amount of it mentally) and problem solving, handling the accounting department of his family’s business with relative ease.
  Technological Aptitude -- He studied math and computer sciences in school and is very adept with computers, but most of his computer skills have been narrowed in to fit a business model, i.e, good with spreadsheets, can automate certain tasks.
  Organization -- Very good with handling paperwork, bookkeeping, and keeping a rigid but effective schedule. He's got a mind for puzzles and putting the pieces together in a logical way.
  
  
  Background || Born to an upper class family in upstate New York, Rebecca and Nathaniel Elliott were destined for success even in their youth. Both from old money and upstanding families, upon marrying Nathaniel, they began to head the family business together and kept it successful even after the passing of generations. They expected so much of themselves, and they expected so much more of their children.
  
  Winston was the youngest born of two elder brothers, Russell and Damien. Both were haughty, stuck up, the normal rich and privileged jock types. They came into the world ready to please their parents and abuse the world, and they did it with such expertise that Winston never really stood a chance among his two big brothers. Perhaps his parents' scorn came from his innate gentle nature. Winston didn’t ever look like a man primed to take on the world and carry on the family name to them, so he was overlooked instantly. But he never much liked the weight that the family carried themselves with, the privilege they lived by, and he never had any desire to get lost in the trappings of old tradition.
  
  Feeling judgemental eyes at every corner of their great estate, Winston often found himself at his grandfather’s house. The older man was someone who had built himself up by his own bootstraps, and inadvertently raised children who had grown spoiled under the weight of the legacy he had already built for himself. In his old age, he was nothing like the cocky young man he had once been, and saw a great amount of his past self in the timid young boy. Winston was eager for any escape, and spent most of his time under his grandfather’s great apple tree or at the kitchen table in his warm dining room, filling up the absent space that had been left behind by his late grandmother.
  
  Though his grandfather tried, Winston’s self esteem suffered under the gaze of his family and the treatment of his peers. He was often bullied at school, especially because his brothers felt no shame teasing him from their upperclassmen stature. He was also pretty geeky, finding friends if at all in the nerdier crowds, and eating lunch often in the math teacher’s classroom. Winston spent most of his school years with his head down, just trying his best to get by and find some semblance of himself without his parents looming over him.
  
  Unfortunately, his grandfather passed at the start of senior year. Winston was crushed by this, and as it occurred just during college application season, his mental health suffered terribly as he struggled to keep up with the stress of applications and his parents expectations of where he would attend. He was accepted near nowhere, despite his great mathematical talent, and ended up attending his state school for mathematics, much to the chagrin of his family. Winston, however, actually quite enjoyed his time at this college. Since he had already done the greatest wrong by not getting into Cornell, he found his freshman year extremely freeing. Come sophomore year, though, his parents pulled strings and managed to get him a seat in Cornell. He didn’t want to go, but he found his will not strong enough to dispute them.
  
  What little growth of spirit he’d had during that one year was stamped out in the competitive environment of the top tier school. Winston graduated, but not after a certain amount of unfortunate experiences with peers that left him feeling more degraded than ever. Girls stamped out his heart, friends disappointed him, and though Winston tried, he never really seemed to fit in. His family, just glad he’d done enough to raise his stature, were happy to let him take over the bookkeeping and accounting department of their business.
  
  Within a cubicle was the perfect place for Winston to hide. It wouldn’t be true to say he thrived in the office environment; more, he became comfortable. Life became simple, mundane, and repetitive. He allowed himself to fizzle out, and maybe if he’d done more, his family’s business wouldn’t have gone under. His brothers, much older than he, had already had a certain amount of reign over the family affairs, but allowed their foolhardy decisions to tank the business. He hadn’t spent much time in their office, but the picturesque life his family had painted melted away, and already anything but the favorite child, he found himself mostly alone.
  
  Another moment of liberation. He got a job at another office, started from the ground up, and began living fully on his own, away from the family. There, Winston did have great potential to rise up in the ranks, but every promotion seemed to curve away from him just in time to go to someone else. That, and he often let other people get ahead. He became very unremarkable in this office, unremarkable to everyone except to the new secretary, Julie Williams.
  
  A romance blossomed, and Winston truly thought he’d found the one. Within the span of two years of an office romance, he managed the courage to propose. It was the first time he’d reached out to his family in quite a while, to tell them that he loved her, that this was going to be the girl he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He found her in bed with Todd, the new manager, two weeks after the proposal.
  
  She said he was too boring. Too simple, too easy, too… nothing. It broke his heart indefinitely. He buried his sorrows in drink and in work, an unhealthy mixture of both keeping him in a bleary, unawake state of being.
  
  That is, unfortunately, where we leave the story of Winston Elliott and perhaps find the story of another, better version of him.

  Kit is not the type to have close friends, instead preferring to be an outsider.   Background:
  Kit grew up in San Diego to Stanley and Sheryl Fitzgerald. She was deeply impacted by seeing her father desperately try to save his alcoholic wife over and over despite her abuses. Her father was not only in need of Sheryl financially, but was codependent, too attached to his wife to let her go. Kit learned from this that she needed to be self-reliant and independent, and also developed a fear of getting close to anyone, thinking it was a weakness and a threat to her independence.
  
  Kit got into a little bit of drug use in her teens, "running with the wrong crowd" as her father said. She got herself into a bit of trouble with the police from time to time, but they were usually lenient on her as they knew her family's situation. With her above-average intelligence, Kit managed to graduate high school despite a lot of absences and skipping classes.
  
  But she had no interest in furthering her education. Instead, she had developed a love of sailing, something she had begun to learn from a friendly neighbor who saw her lack of parental supervision and took an interest in her. The adaptable girl soon picked up more than he could teach her and began to enter competitions for the prize money. She began to travel around the US to compete in championships, where she often came in first place.
  
  When Sheryl came down with cirrhosis of the liver and finally got sober and cleaned up her act, she wanted to make her amends to Kit and rebuild their relationship. But Kit was only angered at the audacity of this woman to even call herself a mother. So she decided to sail to South America to get away. She lived in Columbia for a time, then Chile, then decided to sail her way to Europe. Kit continued like this for the rest of her life until now, settling down only briefly in cities across the globe. She made friends here and there but when people tried to get too close to her she would leave without saying a word.

  On-Sight ID - Scooter can ID most plants, fungi, and insects at least down to the family level on sight. They can ID down to species with plants/insects/fungi that are around the area they live in. This is useful when figuring out what can and can't kill you; sometimes, if you want a little side-of-the-trail snack, you need to forage the nonpoisonous things.​

  In-Depth Knowledge of Biology - After going to school for so long, they've gotten a handle on biology. Specifically of the environmental variety, but they have branched out into other sorts, like conservation. This knowledge also extends to base chemistry, but only whatever portions connect to their field of study; they aren't a huge fan of chemistry overall.​

  Artistic - They've had to draw scientific diagrams. A lot of scientific diagrams. Practice makes perfects, as the saying goes, and while their drawings aren't perfect they are very, very good. They draw a lot of invertebrates, fungi, and plants, but have extended into drawing people over the years. They simply don't do it as often.​

  personality. Scooter is a pretentious academic. Not at their core, of course, it took them a while to get to the point they're at, but any kind-hearted nature is buried under a slightly egotistical exterior. They are smart, of course, that was never in question, but they feel the need to be the smartest person in the room at all times. If they aren't, or if they get something wrong, they get extremely frustrated about it; its one of the few things that gets under their skin. Their passion for their work has dulled over the years, replaced by simply the need for their work to be known. They don't go out of their way to help others, and if its between them and someone else, they'd likely choose themself. They need the attention to be on them and hate when the spotlight is on anyone else. They're anxious, stressed 24/7, and have an all work no play sort of mentality.

  BACKGROUND
  background. Scooter was, during their youth, what one may consider a gifted child. They were ahead of their grade in all subjects in the early years of their life. This in and of itself was fine; at first, it didn't matter much. They stayed with the other kids and they were well-adjusted socially so it didn't impact their ability to make friends. Of course, when it became obvious how ahead they were, their parents pushed. And pushed. And pushed. Eventually, they were placed into a program for gifted children. It gave them a bit of a complex; they were 7 and being told they were better than the other kids that they had gone to school with. That sort of thing goes to a kids head.
  
  As time went on, though, they were no longer the smartest kid in the room. Their grades weren't the best in the class, despite still being above average, and their parents made a point to push them harder. They weren't doing well enough, obviously, if they weren't beating other kids. Going from being the star child to suddenly being told they weren't good enough was a hit, and it drove them to work harder and knock down others along the way in attempts to be the best.
  
  This continued on into their college years. They got a degree in environmental biology, before going for a PhD in entomology, which they also succeeded in. They ended up getting a job as a professor at a university in exchange for research funding, working on topics related to the current biodiversity crisis. Their intentions, of course, were less-than-noble: they were eager to get recognition rather than eager to fix anything, unlike their younger years when they had genuine interest in their studies. In recent times, they've been getting frustrated with the lack of focus on their work, and are desperate to find a way to draw attention to themselves again.
