The old mage nodded as both Alice and Siwai appeared once again at the bar. It looked like the group was ready for the mission and the man would rather not waste even another additional second of daylight - "Let's depart, Argius?" - he asked.

LANDER

the traveler

Well, it was here. The three-year anniversary of Lander becoming a Hunter and joining the Guild as an official member. He had signed his duty and his life away to make an honest living as a beastslayer, a forager, an escort, a treasure hunter -- all kinds of adventures with varying amounts of meaning to him. Most of them were just another way to make some coin. Although the Quest Board never seemed to grow stale long enough to affect the entirety of the Guild's well-being, he had very recently gotten into the terrible habit of gambling on horse races, and the well of prosperity in his pocket was beginning to run dry.

I suppose it's time to start looking for another quest. He gazed down into the half-finished, murky stout that was clutched in his palm. It hadn't skunked yet, but it was certainly beginning to grow warm in the heat of the summer -- he hadn't even realized that he'd been sipping so slowly. Usually, his affinity for alcohol was unhealthy -- being drunk numbed the thoughts of the inevitable, so he took advantage of Barry and his wares as often as he could when he didn't have to shift his focus or attentions elsewhere.

But today is different. Why? Is there a reason I'm subconsciously trying to keep my wits about me? Perhaps it was the anniversary that was effecting him. Perhaps it was his intuition telling him that he couldn't very well consider the appropriateness of a quest while he was inebriated. He chugged the rest of the warm stout down to the dregs, more to finish it rather than to feels its effects, and set the mug on the bartender's side of the bartop for Barry to pick up when he had a free moment.

Lander turned in his stool to scan the crowd and get a quick analysis on the available Guild members. It seemed that the longer time went on, the less he recognized anyone in the Guild Hall anymore. There must be several newcomers for it to be this barren. His usual, familiar questmates hadn't made an appearance for weeks. Perhaps they'd left the Guild in search of a new adventure. Perhaps they're dead. He fought the urge to order a swallow of Dragon's Fire after the thought crossed his mind.

He would approach the Quest Board and decide on a quest soon enough, he mused. For now, he was only going to enjoy the warmth of the sunlight streaming through the Guild Hall windows and sit pensively to observe.

Percival

After their terrifying ordeal exterminating an unexpected Shaelmaar, the Hunters and their mounts made it safely back to Colby. The City guards got a shock as Ramirez lugged the deceased beast through the gates, but they'd seen the man drag back worse. As long as it was dead they didn't care to stop him.

Some of Colby's residents downed tools and stood by the side of the road to get a good look at the monster. "Cor, it's massive!" "Had that got past the wall? Should we be worried?" "Hunters are so cool!" A few voices whispered or yelled as the group passed by.

It wasn't long before they reached the worn, yet cosy looking Inn. Percival led Samira around back to the stables, stopping her by a mounting block so Meg could get down easily.

The back doors to the Guildhall were open. It sounded busy in there and the delicious smells of whatever Colin had made for lunch were drifting outside.

Thunder lead herself to the stables and nudged percy to unload her cargo of turnips.

RAmirez headed in with their quarry to report the quest, give the newbies a bit of peace from paperwork.

Riding was amazing. Feeling the controlled power between her thighs, Meg was awed by how smooth the ride was, even compared to the wagon they’d used to get to Gile’s farm. It was relaxing, even with the scrapes and bruises, she’d collected on the hunt. Enough so that even with the mounting block, it took her a moment for her legs to catch her, causing her to press against Samira in a form of a hug. Her body had never felt this heavy before. Was this what relaxation felt like? She wasn’t sure she liked it. She couldn’t sleep yet, though her body desperately wanted to.

She stared at the lizard, who for some reason was comfortable following them instead of her owner--where was Ramirez anyway? She stood as docilely as Samira did, waiting for them to remove the turnip crates. In that moment, she could just see an animal. A lizard instead of a horse, but the creature wasn’t trying to be human, like, like Meg was. Just an animal. And Meg had always liked animals.

Do you know her name?” She asked, walking carefully--why was she so tired?--to the beast, before pulling off a crate. Her arms struggled--which was ridiculous, she’d emptied a wagon full of these crates near daily!--but she lifted it up. Holding it against her hip, she looked around, “Should we take them inside? We’re a bit…” She looked down at the dried mud caked in her apron and skirt, peeling off her skin. “Dirty.

The bright late day sun was high in the sky today, it's soft ray's keeping Ana awake and always cursing the heat. The clanging of steel; armored boots drum and hum silently in the beaten path towards the city of Colby. Ana leaving from a wagon that brought her here a few solid 7 minutes ago, wishing to take a walk and sight see, familiarizing with the land she will be staying for a good while. hefty leather strapped bag over her shoulder, she walked to the front's of the city gate, the sight of the high walls bringing a sense of security and overall, amazement, seem so...traditional in a sense?

But even still, all she could see was in tones of grey so, any color or art was off her admiration list. Reaching upon the gate she was stopped by a few guardsmen taking note of her and asking questions, but after making her goal clear and showing the letter an envoy delivered to her residence of, what one could call, acceptance and entry when she filled the application. Being let it was as easy like eating pie. With a smile and the creeking gates letting passage, she waved goodbye to the guardsmen and walked herself in. The first thing she could hear was some sort of gossip of hunters coming back of a hunt, some of the folk making there way to what she presume was the hunter's guild and with some excitement in there eyes. With an opportunity in sight, she waves one of the resident's.

"Excuse me, hi, sorry sir but I am not from around here, I presume that yes, that is the hunters guild?" Her hand raised and finger pointed towards the, very, cozy and otherwise unique structure in the area other than merchant buildings. The old smiled and with a soft chuckle, "ye be right lady! But oh no, it's ye hunters Inn more specifically, not guild" he said waving back as he continue there way. Hunters Inn... that actually sounds a lot better than a guild, even has a nice ring to it and with a name like that, she would imagen rooms are avaliable.

Taking a a nice short walk her palms arrive at the oak doors of the inn, pushing it open and looking inside discretely. She is not officially in yet, as she recalls in the papers she must find some one named Beryl and make it official, the guild master...she thought this woman would be called Inn master knowing what the old man told Ana. The halls were not empty either, infact pretty full, and a nice smell filled the air of food...but no time, time to find Beryl. And with that set of mind, she began looking about, being a guild master, she can't be hard to spot.

Beryl was stood perusing the notices pinned to the guild quest board. There were so many monster sightings lately - which was good for business of course, but worrying all the same. In all her days as Guild Master, she’d never seen such a backlog of quests.

“She’s named Thunder. Ramirez told me that she’s a Land Dragon.” Percival said as he slid the second crate of Parsnips off the dragon’s back. “Oof.” Parsnips were heavy.

“We don’t get many dragons back home.” And by many he meant any, unless you counted the skulls on the walls of the feast hall. “… alive ones anyway. I suppose you see them all the time here in Colby?”

“Ah… yes, quite.” Percival looked down at his filthy armour and clothes. “The Barkeeper won’t be pleased if we muddy his floors.”

Meg looked at Percival like he was crazy. “Weirdly enough, this is my first land dragon. The stables back ho-at the tavern never got anything like this-her, I mean.” she set the crate down, picking off another box from Thunder, “Then again, we-it’s on the far side, so maybe this end does get more, though I’d expect they’re still dead.” She shrugged, stacking the two crates.

Ramirez mentioned something about a bathing area. We can’t be the first who” she yawned wide, covering her mouth belatedly, “who came in like this.” She looked brushed off dirt lowering her hand and corrected, “Well, dirty, maybe not like this.” Because if this had happened before, it could happen again. And Meg had never hated mud more and wanted water less.

"What do you think dear one," Now that she registered as an animal, Thunder was easy to talk to. "Do you know the way to the baths? You seemed to enjoy the mud, maybe you'd like the water." She looked at Percival, "If Ramirez is talking to Beryl, the least we can do is try to rinse her off." She opened her waterskin, pulling the water out, "I should have enough to do it, as long as she doesn't freak." Now, she didn't look nearly as confident. Talking was one thing, getting close, another.

Ana as she searched, wavering eyes looked at every nook in the halls, her fast pace turning in to a slow walk, observing every detail, people and decor. Slightly amazing to her how so many people of all races and belief come here for one porpuse. Slowly she wander off to the bar, seeing the people are, some chatting and others mere sitting, the dwarf behind the oak bartop, even do his Size is of smaller stature, looked like a man who's glances are enough to settle a bad grudge. Barrels layed of, who knows what ales or meads. Ana rarely drinks, she can't take her alcoholic beverages well still and the simple fact she was forbiden doing so as a cleric. Inexperienced is the best description. Besides that, a gnoll was there, a bugbear, a man in black ((Hinting at Lander)) ,etc. Her head shook, staring around, no time for meetings yet as she is not even a hunter! How can she interact when all conversations will surely go in to be hunting quest that she can't join! A bit too happy in a way as new place, new people, new life, new ways, the adventures.

It was all a surprising. Looking towards the large wooden board where quest would be she notice a woman, tall and greenish tinted skin, that has to be her beryl. Looking down at the parchment and reading a few details the description fit on point "Yep that's her" silently under her breath, rolling the parchment and shoving it rather quickly inside a small satchel on her side, she made her way towards the tall woman, making sure to keep a posture and serious attitude. First impressions go far.

Nearing the woman, Ana slowly walked by her side in order to get in ,barely, in her line a sight. "Good afternoon ma'am, miss Beryl, i presu-?" Befor her words could fully be formed in to speech, a loud thud caught her attention, turning and seeing some sort of wyver-like creature being shown like a throphy in a way. "Oh dear" and judging from what the man stated, yes this Beryl, 100%. Ana took a step back not wishing to be in the way "I was about to say if this is a bad time...I think it may as well be..." Ana stood to the left of Beryl a few distance a way, maybe 4 feet while she layed her eyes on what would be there most fresh kill of the day. What a way to be introduced to a hunting guild, literally, by a fresh done good job on the field.

Thunder seemed glad to be rid of the turnips and nuzzeled Meg with her soft snout, puffing her hair with her warm snorts. She sat her self down to not look so large....not that it helped much but she seemed to be trying to help.

"We got dis fella out of da holes posting....I think we might av a Wyrm down there, old mines by the looks of it... but lots of 'oles and this guy couldnt have done all of dat." He paused and looked at the new comer who apeared to be blind? "Oh sorry missy didn't see you there, lady's first." He encouraged with a warm smile, stepping back to give them some room. Her lips were soft, not as velvety as a horse’s, but not rough like she’d imagined. Meg giggled for a moment as her breath tickled her ears. As the large creature sat down, Meg glanced at Percival, with a, well, what do you think? look. Stepping to her side, the girl slowly ran the water down her flank, just to see how Thunder reacts. “How about you take care of Samira and I’ll see about cleaning Thunder off?” She didn’t turn to look at Percival again, letting all her focus shift to the land dragon.

Thunder closed her eyes, tail giving a slight wag. The muck starting to drip down as she was splashed. She seemed to be enjoying it as a purr slowly started to build, sounding like rolling Thunder, possibly how she got her name.

Beryl turned to address the newcomer, but was quickly interrupted by Ramirez as he dumped a boulder (with legs) onto one of the guildhall tables.

“A Shaelmaar?” The Half-orc raised her brow in surprise. Like everyone else she’d expected the Holes quest would be suitable for beginners.

“Hm… There’s the old silver mine in Arian… might be worth investigating…” The Guild Master pondered. She wasn’t fond of sending hunters out on unpaid missions, but if there was a Wyrm tunnelling underneath their feet, it posed a threat to everyone in the city - including the guild.

“Yes, I am she.” Beryl finally turned back to Ana, looking her up and down. “You’re here to join the guild I take it?”

Barry the Dwarf toddled over to Ramirez with a large tankard of Ale. “Rookies still alive?”

“I think she likes it.” Percival laughed as Meg poured water onto the purring Land Dragon. He tugged Sam into a free stable block and copied what he’d seen Ramirez do yesterday - removed the horses saddle, fed, watered & brushed her etc. The only thing he struggled with was lifting Samira’s legs.

“Please Sam… I just need to… look at your… frogs.” That term (for the underside of her hooves) still made him chuckle.

Ana stood silently as the woman in command addressed her fellow mud coverd hunter about a possible investigation in to the matter. She wonders if this specimen has any interesting qualities to its speacie, wyvern from her home area are lighter in nature and this one seems, fatter, in a way. But besides such maybe one day research can be conducted accordingly. Ana did a slight bow with her upper body neck towards Beryl as she asked of her joining. "Yes ma'am, here to join the guild itself. Anat is my name, researcher" finishing with a extended hand as a former gesture towards Beryl.

“Eh, better to throw ‘em in at the deep end if ye ask me.” Barry chatted to Ramirez.

Beryl took Amat’s hand and gave it one firm shake. Despite being retired and in her sixties, the Half-orc was far from frail.

“Good. We could certainly use the help.” She said to the newcomer, jerking her head back to the overflowing quest board. “Barry!”

“Yeah, yeah. I’m on it.” The redheaded dwarf wiped his hands dry on his apron and went to collect the usual signup paraphernalia - a box of scrolls, quills and blood-red ink.

“Anat… the name is familiar. I think Stan might have mentioned you.” Beryl remembered the Bard talking about some written correspondence.

Barry had unrolled a contract for Amat to look over, and placed a quill and the special ink beside it.

As the noise grew, Meg first thought it was a growl. She paused, looking the lizard over, and was surprised to see her eyes closed. “Oh, you like this!” She laughed at her own fears, shaking her head. Her scales thankfully weren’t holding onto the mud, so even with her size, her flank was done relatively fast. Directing the water to the other side, she began to clean it while carefully walking in front of the land dragon, just in case it was like horses and you’d get a kick if you went behind. Thankfully, both of her flanks were done quickly. Then Meg walked in front of her and looked up at her muzzle. “Your face is all that’s left, do you mind if I do that next?

The dragon opened her eyes and gave a pleased tail wag, the purring still continuing. She clearly seemed to be enjoying the pampering and attention. Her arour like plates were hard to the touch but the pelt between looked like fine scales with a suede like feel.

Ana smiled just by the simple gesture they certainly need help and the strength of the Half okr..., seems she might get to work a lot faster than usual it seems or at ease, she wont know. Seeing the dwarf named Barry leave to pick up something, ana hear Beryl how she heard of her before from a bard called stan, oh might be the paper's! Anal swiftly reached in to her satchel and retrieve the half folded documents, addressing her that her application was read and accepted and now had to come over and finish. "I imagens its from this document". Placing the correspondence on the nearest stool and focusing at the parchment unrolled in front with a red blood ink. The thanked silently the Dwarf who gave the document, as she read carefully the document, making sure she kept them in mind. Nodding, her full name was initialized at the outline and circled yes at the end of resurrection. "Done, miss Beryl"

Ana took a deep breath and silent sigh as this is it, her new life in the frontier in other words. "I made sure to read the correspondence fully Beryl, so i aware of most, such as we being assigned a room, The fees and other important information" She knew of most...now where it was that's a whole different story, reading what is there and looking for it in person are different things but she imagen's it cant be that hard at all, pluss rush was not needed, she did not know if Beryl would take her to the side and talk or, if she had to do a interview. I mean...she did the papers fully, right?...Looking at Beryl still Ana spoke "What would be next Guildmaster?" Looking towards then the full hall and the active guild.

“Aye, you’ll find plenty of rooms upstairs.” Beryl nodded. Anat had certainly done their homework… which made a change. As the new recruit asked what was next, the Half-orc looked to the muddy Veteran.

“Perhaps Ramirez here will show you around.” That sounded more like an order than a request, but it was because she trusted Ramirez the most when it came to welcoming rookies.

“I’ll get yer a drink.” Barry said once he’d tidied away the box of scrolls. It was customary to toast new members with a glass of Dragon’s Fire, which he went behind the bar to prepare.

"Splendid, guilmaster, I will make sure to get well acquainted" she smiled for knowing there was no shortage of rooms, even still, she did not mind sharing as saving more space is still of great importance. As soon Beryl gestured at Ramirez to show her around, the man seem...well he's been through alot judging how he came in, dropping the wyvern and still coverd in mud. And at the same time the dwarf offers a drink for the new commer, as seem from tradition.

She was not much of a drinker but, since it seems to be tradition and not wanting to seem "light" around the rest, can't be that bad now can it? Thanking the dwarf once again today, he took the drink and the mere smell was pretty strong, with Beryl at her side, taking a good swig. Her tongue seem to burn and as soon the strong beverage crawled down her throat with anger, she took a few good coughs and her hand placed on her light padded leather chest "oh good heavens-" followed by a cough "You fellows don't joke around with drinks" she held the still not empty mug, wishing to finish. It was not...bad just though to take. A few minutes and should be empty. One last swig she finished it up and smiled placing the mug on the table, she dose not feel the buzz yet, but slowly, this will get to her.

"I appreciate the warm welcome Beryl, and Ramirez, would be great if you showed me around" especially judging his small pause at the bath and how he was...he might...needed alot more than anyone here. With a smile she thanked Beryl and noded to Ramirez to follow him "Well fellow mud man, let us see this cozy humble building" she said lightly to keep the mood up and well. Pluss seem he really needs a bath.

"May I ask, how long have you been here sir Ramirez?"

"Hehehehehe Mudman." He chuckled softly as he watched them down the drink "Me ooo bout...hmm five or so years?" He mused as he clomped his way to the stairwell, leaving a muddy trail, clearly his job came before comfort. "Up ere is the living quarters, bit like an inn ya see, most newbies bunk together, stay long enough and you get your own room." He pointed to one of the doors "dat one is mine, so if theres every any trouble give me a hauler."

Wrapping the water around her hands, Meg carefully, reached up, cupping the side of her face before using her thumb to wipe the mud off. She turned to look at Percival when he was finished with Samira and shrugged at his question, “Always. When I was little it never occurred to me people couldn’t. Some of the guests would teach me small magics, but water? It’s always felt like an extension of me.” She yawned again, shaking her head to clear it, her ears flapping slightly. “Though I don’t usually move as much as I did today.
