Preface

This roleplay encompasses an exploration theme amidst a vast fantasy world that complements its unique structure. What this means is that players will get to experience the role of an explorer whilst "documenting" their discoveries and experiences as they travel throughout the world. El'yssi is an expansive continent that houses five humanoid races amongst a breadth of unique flora and fauna hidden within their nations. Common to all citizens of this world, however, is the Guild of Exploration whose goal is to record the entirety of the known continent and the unknown realms beyond the Great Oceans. There is plenty more details to come, but for now, a quick explanation of roleplay's expectations.

There is no denying that this roleplay requires a fine attention to detail in addition to a willingness to digest copious amounts of lore. That being said, there is no real requirement of skill other than being comfortable with several paragraph posts and a baseline expectation of grammar and the such. Finally, combat in this roleplay will utilize a light RPG, dice system that is simple and easy to use. As such, it is not a required to be familiar with this style of roleplay.

The purpose of this thread is to gauge interest for the roleplay while acting as a forum for any questions you might have. There is a lot of information in the source to come so feel free to voice any opinions or inquiries as they come to you. Lastly, if you are interested in joining the roleplay and you have experience/are confident as a co-gm, feel free to let me know as I am currently searching for someone to assist me in this grand adventure.

I look forward to talking to you guys soon!

Roleplay Content
A somewhat unique element of this roleplay is its utilization of a wiki. Although it might seem strange at first, there are two reasons for this choice of information store. The first is for a clean presentation of the world and its lore. Secondly, it is meant to act as a database and journal for each player who participates. As aforementioned, exploration is a key foundation of this roleplay. To facilitate this experience, players are given the opportunity to document their findings and leave a lasting impression on the ever growing world. With that being said, the Guilds of El'yssi is not a true "open-world" experience as players will be bound by a plot that stretches the length of the roleplay; however, there will be plenty of opportunities for players to influence and mold the story at will.

If you are still interested at this point, then head over the wiki here: Link

I think it sounds a lot more complicated than it really is, but I'm interested. Admittedly, this type of roleplay is new territory for me, but it sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I really love the lore you've written, and the diversity of character in the races and their nations is really intriguing.

I like the idea of dice-rolled combat, but I'll admit that I am not good with numbers, much less with math, and I may need help with managing the calculations as a result.

Questions:
1) Are any events other than combat dice-rolled? I would think the mind stats would be useless otherwise. If so, what manner of events would constitute a need for a roll of the dice?

2) Will participants be expected to incorporate code and/or images into their participation?

3) Will all players be expected to start from the ground up, or will participants be permitted to play characters who have a background of already achieving recognition in their respective fields?

As an aside, what would you think about adding a directory as a sidebar to each of your wiki pages? I noticed that I had no way to move on to the next subject once I'd clicked on one page from the main directory. Alternatively, you could just provide a link back to the main directory from each page, if you want to save the space. Either way would tie the pages together and make navigation much easier.

Hiya! Happy to see your interest. It does sound fairly complex up front due to the quantity of information, but at the end of the day, I dont plan for this rp to feel unnecessarily complex at any step of the way. If you need help with the calculations, I am more than willing to help out, and in regards to the system as a whole, the initial arc is planned with a light tutorial in mind.

As for your questions now...
1) I do not want all events in this roleplay to revolve around combat. It wouldnt make sense for all explorers to engage in combat with fauna for example. Nor does it make sense for them to fight all npcs and what not. I plan to have certain plot points where a higher mind stat in line with your choice of words might proven extra charismatic over another player. That being said, if the stat begins to feel useless in execution, simply removing it down the road wont affect the sucess of the rp.

2) That is up to your own disgression. The only code that willl be required is a particular header for posts, but I will prepare a template for everyone. Should you choose to modify it, is up to you. As for pictures, again up to you. Text descriptions are pefectly fine as well

3) As of right now, I would like all characters to start as new explorers. This can change at the whim of cast majority or if an opportunity arises that aligns with your idea though.

Finally, thanks for the feedback on the wikia! I've been so busy finishing up the info that I forgot to consider ease of use. I'll look into implementing your suggestion.

Afraid this one is a deal-breaker for me. =( I appreciate the answer to my questions! I hope you get a ton of interest, because I'd love to keep an eye on this and see what comes of it, even if I'm not participating.

Aww, but no problem at all! Please do continue to follow.
I plan for the rp to be easy to jump into, even after its begun, so if you do reconsider, please reach out!

I'm interested, but I do have a few concerns.

Firstly, I hope you have a good gauge of pacing. All the rps that I've joined like this moved so terribly slow. One took 4 pages just to break out of the intro and finally get into a deeper plot point. I'm not really one for mindless fluff, so I tend to drop out of things that revolve around such for content.

Secondly, around how many players are you looking to accept? From what I've read, it looks like you'll be taking a lot. And I assume that you'll be dm'ing the entire rp. More players means more work on your part, but this isn't necessarily something bad for me. I'm just curious and wanting to know if you'd be willing to take on that extra work for a bigger group. ^_^

Lastly, I'm not really that familiar with dice rp'ing, but I'll take your word for it that you've a simple enough system for this rp. ^_^

And as for co-gm'ing. If you're still looking for one, I'd be more than glad to help you out. I've been wanting to try my hand at gm'ing for a while in preparation for an rp that I actually plan to launch in a few months. I can say that I'm confident in myself after spending so much time theorizing and talking about different methods and ways to do it with other gm's. ^_^

If you take a gander at the Wiki, the stats and calculations are lined out there. It doesn't do me any good, because math and myself do not get along well, but if you're looking at possible co-gm'ing, it would probably help you quite a bit.

Happy to see your interest! I'll address your concerns in orderish.

I have faith that the pacing will be a good balance between plot development and general downtime. I know the Wiki states that new explorers are subject to "classroom" training, but this is very hands on, and will involve actual interaction with the world. On top of this, the plot interweaves the training so we'll be constantly working towards the overarching story.

In terms of players, I am waiting to see the amount of interest to gauge this factor; however, 1-4 teams are manageable, the higher numbers being with a co-gm. I am still looking for a co-gm, but I am again waiting to see interest. If a small number of cast members are garnered, then I can likely handle the rp myself, but multiple teams will be a lot easier with some help. In regards to co-gm contribution, you'll definitely get a lot of a freedom in the earlier arcs. You will be assigned a team or two, and it'll be up to you how you approach their training.

For now, I will definitely keep you in mind as a potential candidate for the role, and I'll be finalizing this decision when we get a little closer to the actual rp start date.

Lastly, the dice is nothing more than simple addition and multiplication, and it might even change to addition alone. I don't want the RPG element to overpower the true goal of this roleplay. Ultimately, I want the roleplay to be about exploration and discovery which in turn means combat isn't always the best option. I just determined that having this means of combat makes it cleaner, and its a change of pace for myself to have fun with.

Devious Dilbert Devious Dilbert Thanks for the... recruitment? Yes - let's call it that.

This is far out of my comfort zone... but I've always been curious about dice games. However, I'm confident in my overall writing ability and hopefully I can add something to this world. I'd love to be responsible for world building, as that, too, is one of my weaker points.

I will express my interest and accept the challenge. My questions about the dice have been answered above, so I, so far, have no questions. I will give the thread and wiki quality closer read later, as I'm currently at work.

I haven't rp'ed with these guys, but they're worth a shot.
Not... Really, no. I don't do group roleplays, especially large groups, write massive amounts of detail, dice roleplays, or want to read through copious amounts of detail just to have an idea of what's going on.

Well, I can help with the last problem.

There are six different races in six very different environments, each with its own lifestyle, religion, and social and/or governmental organization. Each race has its specialties - its strengths and weaknesses - and those play into the way stats are distributed for use in a variety of situations, although primarily combat-related.

The Guild is an organization of specialists, and those seeking to become specialists, in various fields of scientific exploration. There is a short-list ranking system that requires excellent skill, training, preparation, and a good amount of natural talent to rise through. The higher one rises in the ranks, the more well-respected and renowned one becomes. Those in the highest ranks are considered to be the most respected in their particular fields of study.

The Guild also happens to be the equivalent of a world government at the present stage, although, from what I understood from the wiki, it doesn't keep very tight reigns on any of the remote regions.

This gives you the overall picture of the way the world works without all the juicy details. That said, the lore written for this roleplay is really, truly awesome, and I found it a fun read.

Sorry dildert, but i'm in like, 4-5ish rps right now. I can't really handle a dice roller, nor am I particularly fond of them. I'll come back when I have time, or when a few of mine die out.

until next time.

Happy to see your interest. Everyone who joins will have the ability to help develop the world, be you a GM or not. There will be plenty of opportunities to affect what happens in a local town or up to the cities. As we get later down the road, things open up a lot more with quests since you'll be able to choose where you want to go from a quest board. To shed more context on how an event might play out though: I'll essential have base details and a map of an area you will be going. This information will be in the Atlus section of the wikia. From there, its IC knowledge and map context points to determine what you guys discover and experience.

Oh on a side note, if people have looked at the wiki and thought the "Growth graphs" for each race were confusing, good, cause I hate how they turned out. I'll be reworking those when I make actual sign-ups. The new ones will be bar graphs and make a hell of a lot more sense.

Growth graphs? Are you talking about the images under the Orientation section of The Trinity Arts page? (Those were the only graphs I saw.) If so, yeah... I thought that was really confusing, but I thought it was just me. I don't do well with images (hence my hatred of code).

Yeah those guys. The idea I went for sounded great in my head, but didn't translate well onto paper. And yeah, some people like the images and code, others don't. Hence why I'm making a code template for everyone to use if they want. Will only have to fill in the empty slots with your stats, any battle results, and your post. Easy peasy

And that can't be done with just plain text? =(

I mean sure, long as the info is there and in a clean manner. The code just makes it a nice header so your character stats, battle results, icon(if you want), etc is there before your post.

The reason you need this info is so when your told you leveled up, you can update your stats from your last post rather than trying to remember them or jumping back to the wiki all the time(You all get a character page on the wiki). As for battle results, its to show me how much damage you do/take,etc. And well anything else is fluff.
