There is nothing to fear
Ancient history

Long ago, before mankind's ancestors had ever stepped out of the primordial ooze there was a ancient empire that had existed for over a billion years, the Thu'ma. These Ancient Thu'ma were very similar to humanity but their empire had lived long enough that they found all the answers to all the questions of science in our universe. For a time it seemed as if they had reached their pinnacle, but there was more to be found and more to be done. It wouldnt do for the universe to be empty save for them. Around the same time they decided to begin crafting life they discovered the source of our very universe, without much better of a name in mind they called this "the source". A supernatural force by definition due to it existing outside of and beyond out natural universe this "source" was believed to be the place where all matter and energy in our universe came from. In their attempts to create life they made a mistake that most prideful intellectuals make, the mistake of believing nothing was outside of their control.

In their arrogance they crafted their first lifeforms the Thu'Aan who would come to be known as the Titans. These massive humanoid lifeforms has a passive connection to the Source as they were made to be the "Ultimate lifeform." Sadly for the Thu'ma, the Thu'Aan were a roaring success. These titans possessed tremendous power and were able to launch a rebellion against their creators. Despite the Thu'ma having a great empire with countless numbers and advanced technologies we could only dream of...the Thu'Aan were greater still, able to use their connection with the Source to learn at a ludicrous rate and alter the very fabric of reality, bolstering their own numbers by creating lesser versions of themselves who were still powerful enough to press the assault on the Thu'ma. Fearing their coming end the Thu'ma developed an entirely new lifeform to defeat the dreaded Thu'Aan. They found that by changing their tactics mid battle they could almost counter the Thu'Aan, but the Titans learned fast enough that this was a stop gap measure that they struggled to pull off more often than not. So they crafted a new race who could adapt much faster and much better. The Dra'Khan were born.

The Dra'khan were great winged reptiles with a similar connection to the Source to that of the Thu'Aan, however the Dra'khan could use this to alter themselves rather than alter the world around them, furthermore they were impervious to the Thu'Aan attempts to alter them directly. The Dra'khan could use this power to shapeshift, convert others,and evolve a seemingly endless list of powers and abilities to face the Thu'Aan. They were however a little late to the party. The Thu'Aan had already pushed deep into the heart of the Thu'ma empire severing communication and trade networks as they went effectively cutting the Empire off from itself. With the empire divided and being crushed under the weight of their own needs, to say nothing of the Thu'Aan and their consistant attacks, it seemed the Dra'Khan had come to late. The Thu'ma empire collapsed and the Dra'khan rose up in their place launching a far more successful assault against the titans. They hunted down each of the progenitor titans and slew them, without their greatly enhanced minds guiding the reat of the Thu'Aan it was a simple mop up job after that.

Sadly it seemed the Dra'Khan were also a bit defective. Immediatly after the war the dragons split into two factions each having a different view of their place in the cosmos. The Followers of Tiamat had decided that they were the inheritors of the universe the remnants of their creators should be purged lest they create a species to hunt the Dra'khan. Whereas the Followers of Bahamut believed they were created to protect the universe and it was their duty to see their creators restored to their former glory and elevated beyond. This fracture amongst the Dra'khan resulted in a terrible civil war that would last for a billion years and would be known throughout the universe as the Great Dragon war.
~~~
As it turned out the Thu'ma were not destroyed but were scattered. Much of their ancient history and cosmic architecture was destroyed by the back to back cosmic conflicts. Because they lasted for billions of years and were cut off from their technologies that let them alter the worlds they dwelt on to suit their needs the Thu'ma actually went down several different evolutionary paths creating countless new alien species, inculding the humans of Mars who would go on to populate the earth after their planet was the stage for a catastrophic battle between the Dra'khan factions. However after enough time passed Tiamat was bested and she and her followers banished to the Source where they would be unable to interact with the physical universe without the followers of Bahamut being instantly aware.
Recent history
The Thu'ma of Mars would eventually go on to become humanity with their history playing out as it is recorded currently. Occasionally they encountered A Dra'khan or even a Thu'Aan. But the humans were surprisingly similar to the Thu'ma of old and were resilient often finding ways to avoid their destruction though sometimes it was with the help of the Dra'khan followers of Bahamut who was influenced by the humans to change his races names to the Dragons. Humanity progressed remarkably fast going from stone age to space age in only 12,000 years, just over the lifespan of an individual dragon. However in the modern era things have begun to grow problematic. You see Humans have just discovered the Source and accidentally brought Tiamat and her followers out. Almost just as bad it captured the attention of the remaining Thu'Aan who have been rebuilding in solitude during the Dra'khan civil war and afterwards. They intended to strike back but found Bahamut to be far to clever a leader, yet now that the Dragons were distracted by the return of their other ancient enemy ths Thu'Aan begin their march across the cosmos again...and earth is caught in the middle of this battle.
The Story
Ok so this storyline takes place in the modern day earth but maaaan is it crazy. Random portals open up in random places spiting out Evil dragons, Great stone structures fall from space unleashing The Titanic and Terrible Thu'Aan and the earths military is hilariously outgunned here. Thiugh in all fairness their dealing with reality warping giants (Thu'Aan) and the literal ultimate in adaptable bio-weapons (Dra'khan). Luckily hope is not lost, The Dragons (The Members of the Dra'khan who follow Bahamut) are coming to earth with a genius plan to fight back. Bring strong dragons and infuse their Dna with the local fauna and dominant species and if things get to hectic there are countless worlds populated by the decendants of the Thu'ma, brother and sister species to humanity, who would be more than willing to launch a siege on earth to liberate thier populace.
I will only be allowing characters from the following factions
The Dragon Faction- the Members of the Dra'khan race who didnt see themselves as superior to the rest of life in the universe. They follow Bahamut, the last truly immortal Dra'khan besides Tiamat. There are 3 different species of dragons though two of those species are far more diverse than the first.
True dragons- Those who are born and raised as dragons. They have access to all of the abilities of their race including shapeshift, energy manipulation, extreme longevity, advanced regeneration, and the ability to draconify other willing species. Three of these True dragons were sent to earth, Bastion one of the three the sons of Bahamut, and two elder dragons meant to guide him in his first military command position. (2 spots available)
Drakes- When a non dragon species is given cells from a true dragon these cells mutate the being into a dragon hybrid. They gain several abilities from the dragon species while keeping all of the abilities inherent to their species. They can shapeshift between their normal species form and a large dragon form and even do partial shifts like granting themselves scales or wings and even claws. They gain access to a specific element like fire or lightining and can use this element for a breath weapon even in their non dragon form while also becoming incredibly resistant to said element. They also gain access to the Source to fuel this elemental power making it nigh limitless. Finally they gain physical power that is a middle ground between a dragon and a member of their species. So on average they are around half as physically powerful as a true dragon but many times stronger than a normal member of their species.
(8 roles available .)
Wyverns- Its not only intelligent lifeforms that can be Draconified. Typical animals can be gifted dragon cells and mutated into a wyverns which is the lowest class of dragon though is still exceptionally powerful. They become permanantly shifted into a half dragon form of whatever they are and while they will not gain access to the Source they still gain an elemental ability to be used as a breath weapon and are resistant to the element both to a lesser degree than drakes. In addition they become imbued with some kind of poison or toxin making them a dangerous foe even for more powerful enemies. These beings unfortunately never convert the dragon cells within them making them completely subservient to the True Dragon that Draconifies them. It is possible for the True dragon to pass control of this creature to another Dragon or drake.
Artifacts- with enough effort amd skill in the draconification process a true dragon can infuse their cells into non organic things like a sword or a gun. This results in that object gaining access to one single additional ability that is tied to the source and thus inexhaustible. While only the oldest and wisest of dragons can actually create these objects they are technically timeless artifacts that do not decay or degrade over time so they almost always outlive their creators and will never cease to have their power unless they are broken. Some of the artifacts in the dragons arsenal are over a billion years old having been made during their war with the Thu'Aan. However the vast majority of them came to be during the billion year dragon civil war when both sides were churning them out as fast as possible. Due to this there is a massive stockpile of them and the dragons are very generous with giving them out even granting them to non dragon allies and making them basically standard issue for drakes when they are enlisted into the dragon armies. Sadly the neutral nature of these weapons make them easy to fall into the enemies hands and surprisingly effective at killing dragons. Several Thu'Aan and even Humans have access to these weapons.
The Hunters- A faction created by humans and funded by several mysterious billionaire benefactors. They hunt down artifacts and ancient technologies and use them to slay Dragons,Dra'khan' and Thu'Aan alike, along with any other non humans they find...or humans who get in their way for that matter. While they have yet to face a true dragon in combat they have actually slain almost a dozen drakes from both of the two Draconic factions and a pair of Thu'Aan who arrived on earth earlier than their kin. They operate like a mix between a cult, a fanatical religion, an intelligence agency, and a paramilitary group. There are designated sects in every country strategically placed in cities that grant them access to the entire respective nation. Their reach is global and soon to expand into space.
This takes place in a modern earth where 2020 was alot worse. It came with evil dragons and giants plus an alien presence in the form of the dragons arrival...thats in addition to the covid, murder hornets, and political madness across the globe. So humanity isnt doing so hot right now...who knows maybe the dragons will help?
Coming factions include.
Dra'khan- Dragons unbound by morality that have spent the past couple dozen million years exiled from the universe festering in their own hate. They forcibly draconify entire planets to become their violent rage fueled army and crush their foes beneath their scaly heels. While they possess more true dragons than the Dragon faction they are very under equipped with artifacts due to there inability to create them in exile.
Thu'Aan-The ancient and ever patient enemies of the Dra'khan and Dragon faction alike. These titanic beings possess unrivaled physical might even compared to their ancient enemies. Yet their true power comes from their passive connection to the source which they can use to actually alter reality around them creating massive super structures by rearranging matter and energy. They can even create life which they used to forge the Giantkin, Hulking monstrosities like trolls, ents, Giant Insects, and Dire versions of nearly everything you can think of. By far their most powerful weapon however is the elder titan, a physical manifestation of the races collective Source power which can erase entire planets once summoned but cannot exist for long in the universe.
Hor'cai- Decendants of the Thu'ma who were trapped on harsh and unforgiving world once under the rule of the Thu'Aan. Due to constant presence of Predators that hunt via sensing connections to the source and the endless dire beasts that called the world home the Thu'ma there turning into hulking greenskinned savages and lost their connection to the source entirely allowing them to be invulnerable to source based abilities. Sadly their minds devolved into that of savage violent brutes that make humanity look downright cuddly by comparison. This constant war has kept their developmemt slow, and despite the fact that they are nearly four times as old as humanity they are only just barely reaching into space with a very high mortality rate amongst their astronauts.
Eve'les- The decendants of the Thu'ma who grew in a well protected region of the universe enjoying safety from the Thu'Aan conflict and the Draconic Civil war. This protection allowed them to develop glorious and elegant technologies and develop a society of enlightenment and peace. Which incidentally made them a prime target for the less enlightened factions. As attacks began to rain upon their world their development quickly shifted to warfare capabilities. With their technology they are able to match the Thu'Aan in Source manipulation capacity and though they are still learning how to wage war they are doing so at an alarming rate.
The Thorp- a race inadvertently created by the Thu'Aan. This species of parasite extract dna from various species to create Anthropomorphic versions of the life on respective planets. Though diverse in their abilities and spread rates, these creatures lack intelligence on their own, any form of language, technology, or civilization. They essentially spread across the universe infecting planets and making the population primitives that will cease any form of advancement technologically. Seen as a plague by most sentient life they are the enemy of all but can never seem to be truly dealt with.
This is quite an interesting RP, though it is a bit complicated. Depending on how it runs, that could be an advantage or disadvantage. How many characters are you expecting to be in the RP before it starts, and how many characters can each person play?
Id say 4 is enough to start. Limit on number of characters is not really a thing but there are limits on the number of roles a person can take. For example the Drakes have 8 roles so im limiting each person to 2 drake roles. Wyverns are playable as sometimes draconification can boost the intelligence so something like a pig or monkey or dolphin would likely gain human level intellect among other abilities thus making them playable. You are encouraged to cross faction build as well so you can make a drake and a hunter if you wish. That way when the other factions come into play players can make characters for those factions if they feel so inclined.
The idea behind it is dungeons and dragons meets 40k.
I guess I'll say I am interested. I don't know much about 40k, but I know a lot about DnD, specifically 5e. Should I claim roles now, or wait?
Go for it if you wish. The two True Dragon roles must be evaluated privately before being claimed so probably wait on those until after the cs page is up. But they don't count against the role limits.
I guess I'll have to wait until the CS page is up then. I was going to see if I could claim a True Dragon role. Drakes come from intelligent species like humans right? And can we only make characters from the factions that have role limits assigned to them?
The two factions playable right now are the Dragon faction and hunter faction the others come later in the storyline. Hunters have no limit nor do intelligent wyverns, only drakes have number limits at the moment but those number limits can be adjusted as we progress. There is also the option to play regular humans aligned with the dragons and awaiting draconification. For stories sake it must be associated with one of those two factions but that and the drake cap are about the only rules for now.
I see that artifacts are listed as a faction as well. Are they able to be made as a character? Also, are we allowed to make wyverns even though they are controlled by true dragons?
Artifacts are listed in the subclass of dragons as more of a thumbnail but no they are not playable though you may invent them. They take a while to make but were being produced over such a vast amount of time that there are literally more artifacts than dragons of both factions by now. And the Dragon faction lead by Bahamut has the vast majority of them...like 98%. They are very generous in handing them out so even regular human characters may possess one. hunter and drake character almost always have them.
Intelligent wyverns are allowed free will by true dragons due to some psudoreligious belief system. If a wyverns draconification process does not imbue them with intelligence they are thought of in the same manner as livestock and in some cases in the same manner as artifacts. Those who do gain intelligence can easily shake off control even if they don't get willingly released as the control almost relies on the low intellect of their subject. So either way it is possible to play them without risking losing control of your character.
Also drakes and wyverns are actually sub factions within the dragon faction and are all on the same team.
This seems like an interesting concept. I would be very interested in applying for a true dragon, and drake character.
This is Prince Bastions true form. As a son of bahamut he is big even compared to other dragons though he doesnt have much of a weight advantage due to his lithe build. His wingspan is about 690ft and. His height is about 310ft when standing on his hind legs, his tail is very long and powerful measuring in at nearly 450ft by itself. Alltogether he weighs about 94,000 tons and while he is about even with any other true dragon in physical power his reach tends to give him an advantage allowing him to lash out while remaining out of range of counter attacks. Beyond all of that however is his trademark flame power. While he can use all elements like any true drago his preferred element is fire and he has mastered it to a degree that his flames can rival the heat of stars if he needs them too...his inexperience is his greatest weakness though he is still a skilled warrior naivety must be hammered out of him. Other true dragons are around the same level though size wise you'd be hard pressed to find one bigger. The name of the small Army he leads are the flarewing Clan of Dragons and all who start on the dragon side will be a part of this Clan. His lightly colored belly is a trait gained from his mother.
Also bear in mind BOTH of the true dragons with him are actually meant to be elders...meaning they are stronger even than the Prince and are actually training him to be a good leader. So while he may be longer than they are and have a more energetic youthful attitude and combat style...they are actually more dangerous to battle and each one can stop him if he tries to do something dumb and they have permission to do so from his father the big boss of the dragon faction.
Interesting. That's a very cool looking dragon. Is it a face claim you found, or did you draw/com it? It looks very nice.
Its a faceclaim i found. Thanks i tried to find one that didnt have huge amounts of redundant details like horns and appendages.
A few more royal dragons. (Bastions brothers are still being searched for.)
This is bastions mom Dyaroth. She is whats called a Angel dragon usually using abilities having to do with light and Protection.
This big boi is bahamut the cosmic God dragon. He is needless to say the largest and most powerful dragon in existence. His breath weapon alone can punch holes through planets and shift the convection processes of stars. His scales have allowed him to fly through supernovas and his battle with Tiamat leveled half a galaxy with unintended collateral damage alone. He spends alot of his time draconifying beings as he is the only one besides Tiamat who can make true dragons with his draconification processes.
You found great faceclaims. I'll definitely have to apply for a True Dragon spot, but I'll probably make one or two other characters regardless of whether I get one or not.
Well so far the odds are in your favor. Alot of my decision making process will hinge upon the backstory people think up along with the faceclaim. So a bit of advice...i am not fond of useless detail, ones dragon neednt have a crown of ornate horns...thats the type of stuff drakes adorn themselves with to make themselves feel better about having weaker source connections. (Just kidding but my opinion on needless additions remains.) That said...not all of the 8 drakes on earth were human to begin with. Young Bastion is only 1700 years old (comparable to a human of 100th the age so basically a teenager.) But he arrived on earth only a few weeks ago giving you a good 1000 year window Of him actually being able to draconify something.
So if you want you can invent an alien to have him draconify before coming to earth at some point and be a drake who is already established within the Flamewing clan rather than a human who was recently draconified and still learning the ropes. Its all up to you.
Ooo... That's definitely interesting about the drakes. I might in fact do that. I prefer playing characters that aren't human or humanoid. We'll just have to see what I come up with and who decides to join the RP.
A very interesting concept. I would love to see it flesh out, but I actually wonder what the Thu’ma were capable of. Understandably the plot is very complex but for a dnd x 40k it really puts it all out there. Really nice plot that’s really all I wanted to say.
