Fantasy The Great War (SirLostBoy x Chibi_Girl)

SirLostBoy

No Story, is not worth hearing. - Angeal Hewley
On the Continent of Avalon, a great War that waged on between the Human Race and what was coined as the "Collective" or "the non-humans" as the humans called them. The war was started years ago and some can't even remember what started the war in the first place. The war ravaged the lands and caused a great split to fall between the lands. Rules and prohibitions were set upon humans interacting with non-humans and vice versa. Tensions were never higher and with each party at what seemed like a stand-still, it was only time before something changed in the winds of fate to tip to balance and change the outcome of this war.

Arty tossed and turned in his sleep, having broken out into a cold sweat, before shooting up from his bed almost prepared for combat. Without realizing it Arty has pulled the dagger he kept underneath his pillow out and had it reverse-gripped in his hand ready to stab at something but all that was in front of him was the empty expanse of his room and the early sunlight peeking out through the burgundy silk blinds of his window.

"Goddamn Nightmares again...." Arty sighed as he let the dagger fall from his hand and clink onto the marble floor below. He let out a heavy sigh to himself as he laid his face into the open palm of his left hand before swiping his hand up and through his hair wiping away the cold sweat of his sleep. He could tell it was very early morning but at this point he knew he wasn't going to get much more sleep if any at all. So Arty swung his feet out to the edge of the bed, stood up, and walked over to the window. Arty quickly pulled the blinds open and blinked as his eyes got used to the sunlight.

He gazed out at the view in front of him; below he could hear the distant clang of metal as blacksmiths and soldiers below worked tirelessly through the night to prepare themselves for anything. He allowed himself one last heavy sigh for the day before he went to change to get ready for the rest of the day.

Jyn had jolted awake with a gasp in the early hours of the morning, quickly sitting up in her bed and looking around her room with wild, tear filled eyes as she breathed heavily. It was another damn nightmare, but being honest they were more like memories, just really unpleasant memories that she wanted to forget however her subconscious seemed to enjoy making her relive the worst years of her life while she can't do anything about it. Though, after looking around the room and reminding herself that she was in a much safer place now, she was able to calm down a little, allowing her claws to retract when she hadn't even realized that they had been extended. She gave out a shaky breath in an attempt to calm her still panicked self as she gently touched her back, grimacing at the memory that she was just forced to remember.

After a couple of minutes, she had been successful in just about completely calming herself, immediately removing the hand from her back as soon as she was since she knew that continuing to do that will only make things worse. And after about another minute or so, she dragged herself out of the bed and began getting ready for the day as there was absolutely no way that she would be going back to sleep now. Besides, she had to go out there and do what she can to help the closest thing to a family that she's got, or otherwise known as the 'non-humans'. She truly didn't even know why the war had started, but all she knew is that she blamed the humans for it and was willing to do whatever it takes to make her side the victorious one. Despite her seemingly endless hatred towards the humans, she feared them more than anything to be honest, but it's not like she could let that information ever get out.

Artorius took a quick, cold morning shower; feeling the cold water splash on his face and body felt like he was shocking away the nightmares of a few hours ago. He finished his shower, drying his hair off of his head, to the sound of knocking at his door. "Yes?" He called out. At that response, the door was opened by a young maid who, somewhat blushed at the prince's somewhat state of undress, curtsied to the prince and stated, "Good morning your Majesty, I just came to remind you that you are to meet with Lord Edelgard this morning to discuss plans," before rushing out of the room. "Oh, right, thank you!" He called out, curious why she left in such a hurry.

As the prince walked over to get dressed for the day, he looked down at the locket he kept around his neck, closed his eyes and as he grasped it in his hands with a light sigh. "It'll all be over soon..." he whispered before he shook himself out of his stupor and got dressed for the day. He wore a crimson red jerkin that was embroidered in silver thread that contained his house insignia upon it. Underneath he wore a simple cream undershirt, along with dark black pants and black leather boots. It wasn't simple attire but it wasn't too fancy for Arty. He hated wearing the super stuffy clothing that some royalty chose to wear but he knew that he had to also represent his position as prince and someday king.

Arty then quickly cinched his sword and dagger to his belt, before running off down through the castle to get to the war room. On his way down, he snuck through the kitchen and stole a pastry or two at the chagrin of the castle cooks. The young prince just smirked to himself as ate while running to his meeting. The castle wasn't huge by any imagination of the mind, but it was large enough that it took Arty at least 5 minutes to get to where he needed to be. Arty paused at the door, straightened himself out, and strolled on inside. Ready to discuss the plans to come for the war efforts.

Once she was out of bed Jyn quickly got dressed, putting on what she usually wore. A gray undershirt that almost matched the gray of her skin, dark black pants, knee-high black leather boots, and on top of it all, a long black cloak. The cloak usually helped to hid her wings, tail, and with the hood up her horns, pointed ears, and a good portion of her face could be hidden. However it was just easier to go into her human form when it came to hiding her true self, which was exactly what she did. Soon, all of her 'non-human' attachments disappeared and she was left looking like an attractive young woman with long jet black hair, sky blue eyes, and pale-peach skin.

As soon as she was securely in this form, she left her small cabin and began making her way to the nearby kingdoms through the forest that she lived in. She had chosen to live out here so the humans would never find her home, therefor having at least one safe haven in case things go south. Besides, numerous creatures' homes were all destroyed, leaving those who once inhabited them with nothing. She truly felt awful for those who suffered like that and would always to her best to help them, but she knew that the best way to help was to find a way to end the war. It didn't help that a majority of them looked up to her, mostly because she was so far the only known one out of them all that can both disguise themselves as a human and steal souls. Having both of those traits was something considered extremely useful, and considering the fact that she wanted nothing more than to end this war, she was willing to take the risks. Even if it meant that she could need to spend more time than she would've liked around the humans, as the other creatures proposed that she went into the human kingdom as an undercover spy and try to find out as much information as she could about their strategies and battle plans so she could tell the creatures, giving them the upper hand.

She was determined to take part in this plan and pulled her hood up when she exited the forest and entered the kingdom.

"Prince Artorius!" came the gravely voice of Lord Edelgard as he welcomed the arrival of the prince with a big hug. Lord Edelgard was a large man, standing at a little over six feet, wearing heavy plate armor and a scraggly dark brown beard. Lord Edelgard has been a friend of the King Reendil since they were children and has been an uncle/mentor to the young prince for as long as he could remember. "It's good to see you too old friend," Arty smiled as he hugged him back. "So what news do you have for me? Did our scouts find anything?" He asked as they let go and walked over to a mahogany table in the middle of the room that, spread out upon it, laid a map of the continent. Little red flags marked spots on the map that represented lands that were now under human control.

"Well as you know Arty, the biggest challenge of the war has been finding where they operate. They come out attacking us fast and hard, and, before we realize it, they disappear as quickly as they came," Lord Edelgard explained as he began pointing into a mostly untouched, unexplored area of the map. "However, scouts have recently reported strange activity going on in the whitherwood forests to south of us.....possibly non-human activity but we don't know for sure. This could be the break we need," Lord Edelgard explained as a tinge of excitement touched his voice.

"hmmm....seems like it might be too good to be true, but it's an opportunity we can't pass up; get a small brigade together; tell them to pack light and quick. We ride out in the next few hours. We need to get there before night falls or else they'll have the greater advantage and we can't have that. I'm going to check out the rest of city real quick Uncle," Arty ordered as he looked at his friend before making a sharp turn on his heel and headed for the city outside the castle.

Jyn narrowed her eyes as she spotted the castle in the distance, that would be the best place to start as all the war plans should originate from there. Before she knew it she was heading towards the large structure. Although she had no clue if it would even be possible to get inside unnoticed, she did always have her ways and she could always act like a lost damsel if needed. She tried to keep her focus as she walked, but the scents of so many humans around her made her uncomfortable in the very least, this was something that needed to be done though, she kept reminding herself.

Keeping her head low as she went along to avoid unwanted attention, she soon found herself nearing the castle. She could only hope that she was blending in with the rest of the crowd at this point as she might panic if a human were to approach her. Her worried and nervous thoughts soon resurfaced, what if this didn't work? what if she was caught? what if they find out where she lives? what would happen to the others if that happened? It didn't take Jyn long to realize that she was getting herself worked up over nothing, soon forcing herself to take a calming breath as she knew that it was key to stay calm. No good would come from anything if she let her thoughts consume her.

After what seemed like an eternity of walking, the castle was not much closer and she looked up a bit and was about to test how close she could really get to it when she saw a man exit the building. She analyzed him in the first few moments that she caught a look a glance at him .He had a slim build, jet black hair like her own, and eyes that reminded her of sapphires. Despite her lack of knowledge on who exactly this man was, it was easy to see that he was a royal figure from his attire, perhaps a prince. Knowing this in a matter of seconds, she immediately halted herself from getting any closer to the castle and tried to act like an everyday passerby, attempting to act as causal as she could.

Arty was walking absentmindedly into town; he was too busy thinking too himself what he had to do today. He worried if he was making a bad decision forcing other to go with him? He knew he could handle himself but what about the others? He shook himself out of his own thought; every man had made their choice when they joined the war and he wasn't going to dishonor anyone thinking that way. He started looking around town, waving to passerby citizens that greeted him and would stall by a stall or two just to have idle chatter with the citizens.

He was mostly checking on his people to make sure they had everything they needed, but also was making sure there weren't many suspicious characters that might do harm. The prince had heard stories of certain non-humans that could assume the appearance of humans but he didn't know what they looked like or what signs gave them away but he thought he had to check anyways. Suddenly while he was walking, he accidentally bumped into a cloaked figure and fell on his butt. "Whoa there, watch where you're going," the prince said as he shook his head out of a daze as he tried to catch a glimpse of the person who he ran into. He couldn't see too much of her features; all he really could see was that she had hair similar to his and eyes that reminded him of the sky but otherwise couldn't make out many features of her appearance.

Jyn had been trying to blend in so much that she didn't notice the man she saw from earlier walking dangerously close to her. She didn't realize this until he fell onto the ground, and when she finally did realize, she almost had a damn heart attack. Pure fear and terror filled her as not only did she just gain unwanted attention from a human, but from royalty. Not wanting to have a panic attack, she decided that she needed a break from being around humans and muttering a quiet, "s-sorry" before quickly putting her head back down and walking away, praying that he didn't get a good look at her so she could come back later and go unnoticed by him, and so he wouldn't figure out that she's not from around here.

Without really thinking, Jyn headed straight back to the forest, knowing that the tranquility and quiet there should be able to calm her as it always seemed to. She continued to keep her head low as she made her way through the crowd, hoping that she wouldn't bump into anyone else and that no one saw her bump into that man. By now,she was way passed uncomfortable and was downright terrified. This situation was made worse from the fact that she knew that when she gets all worked up like this, that it's harder to maintain her human form. So it really was her best and only option to get away from any and all people before something bad happened.

"Hey, wait right there!" Arty called out after her as he got up, but by that point she had started to disappear into the crowd. "That was weird.....what was that about..." he wondered as he dusted himself off. Curiously he decided to try and see if he could find her and went in the direction that he thought she had gone. He didn't know why but something about her didn't sit right with him. Maybe it was the fact that she was cloaked and covering herself but that wasn't necessarily out of the ordinary. It was just everything about her demeanor seemed like she was hiding something; however, there weren't any guards around either that could help him so he was all on his own at this point.

Jyn had completely ignored him when he called out to her, acting like it wasn't her he was calling out to as she got lost in the crowd. She feared that she just ruined the one chance she had at gaining information, but right now she had to focus on not getting caught. Even though she had a human form, she still wore a cloak just in case for situations like this and if she accidentally stayed in this form for too long, to the point where her body would literally force her to revert back to her normal self. As the cloak just about concealed her entire body and most of her face with the hood. She was especially thankful for it because as she neared the entrance of the forest, she could feel her tail start to poke its way out, however the cloak would easily be able to hide this even if her tail manages to return to it's full length. And after about another minute or so, she had entered the forest and continued walking deeper in it, feeling much more comfortable as she increased the distance between her and the city full of humans.

"Damn it all.....lost her...." Arty mutter to himself as he looked around amongst the crowd and he couldn't seem to find her. He did note however from the direction he thought she was going it seemed like she was heading towards the forest but, at this point, it was merely conjecture. As he walked back towards the castle a young squire approached him. "Your Majesty, the soldiers are ready to leave whenever you are ready," the young boy reported with a salute. "Thanks kid, tell them I'll be there soon, just gotta armor up and I'll be good to go," He smiled and gave the kid a few gold coins for his time and a pat on the head before making his way back to the castle.

Artorius sprinted back to the castle, into his room and got ready for battle. He donned his royal plate armor; it was a deep crimson like his kingdom crest with gold trim outlining the pieces. The helmet had an almost wing motif as it swept to the sides. As Artorius swiveled on his heel to head back down, the black cape billowed and trailed behind him.

(Imagine something like this but the colors are different)

"Men! Today we ride for one of the most daunting missions of your lives!" Arty called out as he hopped upon his steed, Shadowfax. "I cannot promise that this will not be dangerous, but I can promise that if you stick close to me and follow my orders you will come out of this alive!" The prince informed; to which a thunderous roar of affirmation from the soldiers came as a response. Arty sterred his good friend around back towards the south and with a light kick to the sides, he and his small brigade rode south towards the forest.

When she felt that she was far enough in the forest, she allowed herself to go back to her normal self, feeling much better when doing so. By now, she had managed to almost completely calm down. Though she had her own cabin in here, she could consider this entire forest to be her own little paradise, since it was pretty rare that humans traveled through here so she usually liked to fly around throughout the trees in her spare time. This place made her happy, calm, and it gave her a home, especially when had to flee her old home that wasn't as much of a home as it was a torture chamber. Quickly pushing those thoughts aside, she now felt much better and was ready to try and go back to the city now.

Slowly, she began to fly towards the exit of the forest, wanting to savor the moments while in her natural form since she found it to be much more comfortable than her human one. But, she she got closer to the kingdom, she couldn't help but feel as if something was wrong. Her tail was flicking itself, it only really does that when it senses that danger is near. Feeling slightly panicked again and knowing that her instincts were almost never wrong, she decided to fly up into a tall tree with thick and numerous leaves so she could hide herself in them. She quickly worked her way through all the leaves and tightly gripped the trunk of the tree, the leaves were just about covering her entire body from sight. Something was wrong and she knew it, thankfully though there shouldn't be any other non humans in here besides herself so she just had to make sure that she stayed hidden when whatever or whoever came.

Soon the party arrived at the edge of the forest but they slowed their pace as they reached the edge of the forest. "Um...sire are you sure it's a good idea to do this?" a soldier piped up and asked. "Well...I...I eard tha stories the others be tellin' and I'm just right scared if I'mma be hones sire..." he said meekly. Arty sighed at the apprehension; he understood it but it wasn't helpful here in this situation. "Look, if anybody here feels scared to do this now that we are here, this is your one and final chance to back out. I will not judge any of you for doing so but regardless of who stays I am going in to fight for my people. So, who's leaving?" Arty asked seriously as he looked each soldier that was with him in the face. There was maybe one or two that left but otherwise a majority of the brigade chose to stay.

Once Arty was satisfied that nobody else was leaving he turned his attention back to the forest entry. "Something feels off here Arty..." a voice said in Arty's head. "Yeah I know bud....there's a tension in the air...." the prince whispered softly as he patted his pegasus on the side of his head. "It'll be alright though....two of us together nothing can go wrong...." Arty insisted. "You know that's not the first time you've said that and been wrong ya know..." The pegasus shot back. "Oh hush you big chicken....everything'll be fine." Arty insisted one final time before he lead his men into the forest at a slow, careful trot; keeping aware of their surroundings.

It didn't take long for her to pick upon the scent of several humans and something else by the edge of the forest, the scent that wasn't human was similar to that of a horse but not quite. This only made her more anxious though and soon she was able to hear the slow and careful footsteps of the soldiers growing closer to her. All that she could do was grip tighter onto the tree and just hoped that they didn't see her when they would eventually pass by her. It was safe to say that the calmness she had been able to achieve before was long gone by now as she was aware that just the slightest of movements could cost her everything. However, as she sniffed the air a bit more, she could smell something....familiar, wait, it finally hit her. That was the scent of the man that she bumped into earlier. This only caused more panic as this meant that she could still be in danger even if she is seen only in her human form, as the man probably got a glimpse at what she looked like in that form from earlier, and from that experience he most likely found her at least a little off.

Despite all of her panicked thoughts, there really wasn't much that she could do except wait it out. So that's what she planned to do as she was up in the tree, but she then remembered something else. Her cabin, her home. The men were definitely going to find at some point, and that scared her since that cabin was all that she had. What were they going to do when they found it? That question lingered in her mind as she debated on whether or not she should try and make a break for it to get there before the men found it or her. No, she shouldn't, that would be way to risky and she knew it, so she just stayed put.

"Okay men, I want you all to spread out into squads of three, stay at least within ten feet of each other so that we can still hear each other. Obviously scream if you find something or someone and we'll come running." Arty commanded as they began their search through the forest. The prince had been through forest at least a few times, more when he was younger, to hunt but didn't remember seeing too much out of the ordinary but their scout weren't usually wrong about things.

After a few minutes, Shadowfax came to a halt. "I sense something off here Arty, I don't know exactly what it is though..." The pegasus said into Arty's head. "I do think you are right old friend..." Arty muttered as he got off his horse and knelt down to the ground. "There's boot marks here....somebody was here recently...wait a minute....that girl from earlier..." Arty kept muttering to himself in deep thought as he tired to follow the prints but they just stopped suddenly. "Hmm....the tracks just stop here....that's odd..." The prince said he began looking around the area to see if he could maybe find the girl.

Eventually she saw the soldiers start to look around but they thankfully had gone to search away from where she was, though that slight relief didn't last very long when she saw an armored man on a pegasus below her,it was the same man from earlier and she knew it. She froze as she heard him muttering to herself, she had completely forgotten about that tracks that she left behind, and it didn't help that the man seemed to know that they were from her.

Memories started to flash through her head as they reminded her just why she was so afraid of humans, the abuse, the neglect, the pain, it all left a deep impact on her. One that she never truly recovered from, one that scarred her in more ways than one. Thinking about this made her terrified about what would even happen to her if she was caught. Fear welled up inside of her and it caused her to accidentally let out a small gasp, before she quickly shut her mouth and hoped with her entire being that he didn't hear her.

Shadowfax caught the sound before Arty had who was still looking around. "Arty....up above...." Shadowfax said in his head. "I know bud....I hear it too...." Arty muttered as he began to look up at into the tree above. "Hello? Anybody in there? Look, if you just come out now it'll make both of our lives easier...." He called out as he looked up into the tree trying to see who was up in the tree but it was thick with leaves and it was hard to make out any discernible shapes. He knew it was probably easier to force whatever was in the tree to come out but he decided that he was going to be the gentlemen here and wait to see if there came a response.

It seemed like she was out of luck since it was cleat that he heard her from below. She wasn't about to just come out willingly and give up though, they'll probably kill her instantly. So, she did the one thing that she knew how to do every since she was a teenager. Letting out a soft and shaky breath, Jyn let go of the tree and in that same moment, she pushed herself off of the tree with her legs and took hold of the tree behind her before she launched herself to another tree, then another, and so on. She was basically tree jumping and she was going fast, this was something that she had taught herself when she first came to this forest, when she was just a young teenager. This was a skill that made it so that she could still travel at high speeds without relying solely on her wings. Jyn continued to tree jump as fast as she could in the opposite direction of the man on the pegasus and his soldiers, she was determined to escape and could only hope that they wouldn't catch up to her.

Arty jerked for a second at the tree suddenly shaking as a figure seemed to suddenly dart out from the tree and continued darting from tree to tree. "Goddamnit!" Arty exclaimed as he curled his right hand into a fist, spoke the incantation, and shot out gusts of wind from his hand in an attempt to knock her from the trees. At the same time he hopped onto Shadowfax and immediately went into a gallop to try and catch up with her. All Arty could think to himself is that he had to try to catch up and he wished that he could get Shadowfax in the air but with the dense trees above he knew it was not only a bad idea but a quicker way to lose sight of her so they kept the chase on the ground.

The wind had slowed her down a bit as she was forced to extend and dig her claws into the trees so she didn't fall or be forced to use her wings to fly. However, she was still going pretty fast as she was determined to escape, to survive. Not just for herself though, she needed to survive because the others looked up to her, counted on her, and she couldn't let them down, and especially because she still wanted to end this war. But most importantly, she wanted to save the others from suffering as she did when she was a child, as no one deserves to go through that kind of torture. So, despite the wind, she pushed herself to go as fast as she could, hearing the gallop from the pegasus from behind her. She wasn't stopping anytime soon though, no, not unless she was forced to and even then she would still try to find a way out. Her determination was probably the one thing that has kept her going for all these years.

"I need archers on me now!" Arty shouted as he got the attention of his men. "Fire at will! But I want that thing alive you hear me?! Alive!" The prince shouted as he pointed out the form jumping from tree to tree. He couldn't fail here. Not now since he was so close to progress; to ending the war.

Jyn tried to go faster when she heard him shout for his men to fire at her, this was bad, really bad. If they managed to land a few good hits on her then that would definitely slow her down enough for them to get her, which was something that she refused to let happen. Quickly coming up with something that might be a solution, she slightly changed the direction that she was going in, now heading towards a specific spot in the forest, the cliff.

"Don't let her escape!" He shouted as they continued following her. He didn't care where she ran off to, he wasn't going to allow the one lead he had on the non-humans escape from his grasp no matter what.

She gritted her teeth when she felt something pierce her side as she jumped through the trees , though she still did her best to go as fast as she could even though the arrow that was now lodged in her side was certainly making it much more difficult. But, she was almost there and she knew it, the cliff was just a little farther up ahead, she just had to push through. Once she was there she could pull a disappearing act and lose them.
