The Great Varg Chiefdom (WIP)

Leusis

Two Thousand Club
Official Name: The Great Varg Chiefdom
Demonym: Varg’s
Government Type: Elective Oligarchy
Leader(s): Exalted One (Leader of entire species with full control of government if he so chooses), Herald of War (Leader of the Varg military, second only to the Exalted One in times of war), Archpriest (Spiritual leader among the Varg race, formerly capable of declaring crusades upon enemies of the Chiefdom), Master of Finances (The financial and industrial leader of the Chiefdom).

Galaxy: The Milky Way
Territory: Cluster of systems within the Perseus Arm

Number of Systems: The Varg claim a total of 10,000 systems though they inhabit none of them as they instead live on ships that carry them around their claimed territory and beyond.

Influence Rank: 3 (Could easily become a 4 if they decided to act on their strengths and take an active role in the galaxy)

Capital World: The Varg have no planets, instead their capital is the largest ship within the fleet, named Triumph
Population by Race: 18.3 trillion Varg

Technology Rank: 8.2
FTL Travel: Worm Holes: Using massive wormhole generators Varg ships are capable of creating vast rifts in space-time that allows them to create tunnels that bend the very fabric of reality to essentially fold space itself to severely shorten travel time, making intergalactic travel possible within only a couple dozen minutes. However, with such an effective form of transportation between systems comes the draw back of power usage, causing gaps in time in which the generator must recharge based on how far the ship has traveled, taking a full week when traveling the maximum distance allowable by the ships power source to as short as a few hours during relatively small jumps on the galactic scale.

Technological Development Focus: The Varg very much focus on military advancement as the defense of their species is seen as their most important task.

Exceptional Technologies: Using powerful relays within each individual Varg ship the Chiefdom is capable of sending messages and data over vast distances to each other near instantaneously using quantum entanglement. Quantum entanglement being a physical phenomenon that occurs when pairs or groups of particles are generated or interact in ways such that the quantum state of each particle cannot be described independently of the others, even when the particles are separated by a large distance – instead, a quantum state must be described for the system as a whole. Due to this it is capable with enough energy to swap said groups of particles due to their connection regardless of distance so long as the energy required is available and thus the transfer of information is nearly instant between vessels.

Using Rail Gun technology and powerful energy production methods within their ships, the Varg have managed to create truly massive kinetic weaponry capable of firing carbon based nanocomposite alloys weighing upwards of 50,000kgs at a speed of .95c (1c being the speed of light) when using the largest rails at their disposal.

Using the same nanocomposite alloy as their many ship to ship weaponry the Varg have managed to construct planet sized ships (100 in total) in three total designs. The first being of military design has no artificial atmosphere, though it does maintain an artificial gravity from rotation so that soldiers working on its surface do not simply float away. Being of equal size to the civilian ships (roughly the same diameter as Mars) the majority of its hull it littered with weaponry ranging from smaller rapid fire railguns to massive ship busting rails as were previously mentioned and hangars that are able to hold massive amounts of fighter and bomber squadrons. Within the ship is an industrial powerhouse of industry focused entirely on the production of machines of war and ammunition, using the massive fusion core of the ship to power the ceaseless production (20 in existence, each with a population of 100 billion, all military personnel). The second design is for civilian use and maintains a strong biome and artificial atmosphere entirely geared towards agriculture and herding for the purpose of immense food production to feed the entirety of their populations several times over, the excess being transferred to the military ships. On the surface there still remains a vast array of weaponry to defend the ships on a scale still unseen by most nations with small portions of land being used to house squadrons of fighters and bombers as well. Within is an industry based on commodities and other such things Varg’s require to remain happy (79 in existence, each with a population of 200 billion with 1% of the population being made up of military personnel). The final design is that of the capital ship, nearly the exact same in design to that of the civilian ships though it is much larger (Roughly the size of Earth) with an industry split between war and civilian, a defense force composed of 2% of the population and a much larger quantity of weaponry and squadrons, making it even stronger than the military designs in space combat due to its vastly superior fusion core giving it significantly higher amounts of energy to expend on weaponry and shields, making it easily one of the most devastating crafts in the known universe (500 billion total population).

Culture: The Varg people are a culture focused on the mastering of their chosen craft within their clan based society, whether that be war or art. As such they are extremely dedicated to that which provides them the safety in which they can pursue such goals, that being the government. It is for this reason that illegal activity is very low and willingness to serve remains high with a self discipline that remains seemingly unmatched by any species they have encountered. Above all else the Varg respect strength and intelligence and thus they elect officials solely based on merit and the person’s ability to effectively complete their tasks making not only the Varg military, but all facets of its inner working highly effective when compared to other cultures more focused on lounging about as the lower class die in mines while they make the majority of the money. It is for these reasons that the Varg see a great many species as inferior due to their lack of foresight, leading to their near destruction time and time again at the hands of an enemy that could simply be avoided or pointed in a different direction.

Government: The Varg government is controlled by officials elected solely based on their level of skill and merit. It is for this reason that the Varg remain a somewhat powerful entity within the Milky Way and have not collapsed under the pressure of the monumental task of just keeping the ships in perfect shape, even managing to improve them over the centuries. Beneath the main four leaders of the nation are the Fleet Sovereign’s who are entrusted with the management of a single fleet (9 civilian ships and 1 military ship) so long as they are not given orders by a higher ranking member of the government. Beneath these individuals are the Governor’s who maintain control of a single ship so long as orders are not sent down to them from above. Clearly from this point onwards there are countless officials who maintain control of smaller sections of each ship with even more officials before them down to Sector Administrators who control small sections of the ship with populations roughly similar to that of a neighborhood.

Military: The Great Chiefdom due to its small size and population compared to other nations relies heavily on an extremely skilled and effective military. It is for this reason that all Varg born on military ships are raised solely to perform one task aboard the ship, engineer, comms expert, etc as well as the combat duties they show the most skill in, pilot, infantry, heavy weapons, etc. Living their entire lives as military personnel and with physical capabilities far higher than their already powerful civilian counterparts the Chiefdom’s military is known and feared by those that have encountered it without vastly superior manpower and resources.

As for the fleets themselves, each ship contains the firepower of thousands of warships combined into one massive mobile sphere capable of holding off and defeating entire enemy fleets (Depending on fleet size). This of course makes Chiefdom fleets incredibly powerful and terrifying when entering an enemy system nearly always spelling doom for the populations of the worlds unless the Chiefdom decides violent action will not be taken.

History: To speak of The Great Varg Chiefdom one must first delve into the history of the Varg race as a whole. Evolved from predators on the surface of their original home world of Nyumbani the Varg reached the industrial age much faster than the majority of other species, only three thousand years after forming their first tribal societies. Using their powerful bodies and minds the Varg people powered a machine of war like no other, bringing death and destruction to each other on a massive scale unseen in most societies. It is for this reason that only the most effective leaders are capable of ruling and why anything less spelled destruction for a nation on Nyumbani.

After centuries of war however the Varg nations encountered a threat like no other, a small scouting fleet from a space fairing nation of the galaxy had come and decided to subjugate the seemingly primitive species. To the Varg however it was an invasion of unprecedented scale by a never before seen race with unimaginable technology. It was within the first month of the invasion, after the fall of several sovereign countries that The Great Varg Chiefdom was formed. A collection of all clan based nations upon the world of Nyumbani hell bent on the single goal of defeating their enslavers.

Salvaging tech from the enemy wherever they could find it and raising entire generations of Varg for the sole purpose of warfare. It was only because of the massive effort of each individual Varg and the tremendous warrior capabilities of their predatorial species that the Varg emerged victorious, sending the scout ships crashing to the surface of the planet and tearing them to shreds to gain the enemies knowledge. It was from this point forward that the Varg took the fight to their enemies, using their own technology against them to traverse the stars, seeking out and destroying every bastion of civilization they held dear.

For thousands of years the Varg continued their expansion, eventually destroying their ancient enemy and claiming all territory in the name of The Great Varg Chiefdom. Sadly however it was only a short century later that an even greater foe arrived with vast fleets (The Invaders) that could seemingly crush an entire Varg system within days. With no way of properly defending themselves as they had been spread so thin the Varg decided to pour all remaining resources and innovation into the creation of a fleet that would save the Varg from annihilation. It was on these ships that only the greatest of individuals in their chosen professions were given safe passage and continued to grow and expand their fleet, leaving the less fortunate to either die or revert back to their war crazed primitive societies.

Goals and Hooks:

-        Maintain the Chiefdom’s territory and growth at all costs.

-        Return to the old Varg worlds that remained unnoticed by the Invaders to lift up their kin into a golden age of technology.

-        Destroy any remnants of the Invaders in the most brutal and savage of ways imaginable.

If your people are mostly at Perseus arm, as you claimed it as their territory. I will have to ask a bit more of the reasoning for being capable to transporting a single individual across a whole galaxy (which given the reasoning used is... needlessly unreasonable) and how does that help when a simple message being sent across the same distance.

The first Invaders Invasion happened basically, a thousand years before the RP. They were not seen again until recently. If it is the earlier, I'd ask why hadn't they check their own planet in a thousand years, if it is the later... how did the Varg manage to make 100 planet ships in less than 2 decades?

As for Invaders invading method, they don't really leave anyone behind. Just so you can have that note for when/if the Varg check their planet again.

A no less important note, please reduce the technology level written at your sheet to 8.2 to reflect the development of your race. (This is, considering that they had been on space for 1k years as nomads. At the very most a square 8 if it is somehow otherwise.)

Given that the Varg are a race of your creation never seen before in the RP, please, make a race app for them as well. :)  Specially given their possible physical and intellectual capabilities, and the very fact that they live as Nomads in giant planet-ships.

One thing I have to mention as my opinion though, even if I never had enough time to fully read the app, is that I consider that a week, or at least three or four days should be a standard cooldown time after a standard jump. We are talking about ships of the size of Mars.

Also, about intergalactic travel in general, there can be no sort of FTL travel to do it at once. A ship would require many, many jumps to get there, or a few good days of hyperspace, or multiple wormholes. The distance between the Milky Way and its closest galaxy is huge.

As an example, the Milky Way's diameter is at the most, 180,000 light years or 55 kiloparsecs. There isn't any FTL travel type to travel this entire distance at once anyway.

But the distance between the Milky Way and the Andromeda is 2.5 million light-years, or 780 kiloparsecs. It's incomparable.

1. The idea was that the teleportation of matter (a person) over vast distances using teleportation is theoretically possible. I haven't been able to find a plausible way to transfer data instantaneously.

2. The Varg left their worlds during the first invasion and were nearly driven to extinction. For this reason they've stayed nomadic and only want to search for their kin now because the invaders have been defeated for the second time and show no signs of ever returning and so the Varg intend to make contact with their non-nomadic kin.

3. The Varg had tens of thousands of systems under their control when they built their ships. The idea is that the Invaders could have possibly not gotten to certain planets and there would still be Varg left on them or they could have possibly survived attacks by the Invaders. The reason the Varg haven't searched for survivers up to this point is because integrating those populations into their fleets would have put too much stress on resources. But now that they have a power base again, they're seeking out these populations.

4. Get to that as soon as I get home.

5. This is still a wip, this wasn't intended to be the final product and I'm still working on the race.

1. Intergalactic or even galactic teleportation wouldn't work, for the same reasons I mentioned before. The distance is huge. At the very least, teleportation would be limited to ranges similar to FTL, or, in my opinion, even less.

3. Survived? Not exactly, so let's just say that the Invaders did not have time to attack all the Varg planets. That of course, if you're going with the idea that the Invaders attacked your race in the past.
