The Universe is a mindbogglingly large and ancient place, but it is neither Infinite nor eternal. In the year 2139 Humanity discovered this when they accessed Universal Rending technology that allowed them to travel across the void instantly. We found that the universe was a lot more populated than we thought, but the UR technology that had allowed our own voyage across the universe was not unique to us, rather like gravity, and even mathematics the technology that allowed the warp travel across the universe was a hurdle nearly all species would have to overcome. Many even came to think of this as the “great filter” that was the focal point of fermi’s paradox.

While they were very wrong it wasn’t readily apparent at the time. We humans spread far and wide in all directions and found that our empire was far from the only one. While they were spreading out mankind encountered A handful of other intelligent species at various levels of development. First they found the Gha-Horks which humans took to calling Orcs due to their resemblance to the mythological beings, yet their aggression and resilience made them very hard to deal with even with their far more primitive technologies and thus mankind left their space alone. Shortly afterwards they discovered another empire in the opposite direction, The Elders, also called Elves by humans. Luckily for mankind they were not only patient and understanding but seemed to seek peace above all else, a streak of luck made all the more apparent when we realized just how much more advanced than us they really were. This realization kept humanity from expanding too far into the elven territories.

By the year 3100 mankind’s empire had grown to encompass nearly two hundred planets with a population climbing into the hundreds of trillions and a healthy rate of expansion kept them from stagnating. Two more empires had also been found, The Artisans and their Machine slaves called the Forged often called Dwarves by mankind as if fitting a theme. The final empire was called the Zudo by all other empires and was a coalition of a several different species that developed near the same time in the center of our universe. One would think humanity and the others would be happy to learn they weren’t alone and for a time that was true…but it wasn’t long before the fear of things one couldn’t understand took its toll, a fear that unfortunately was not unique to humans.

The Expansion of mankind spurred the other empires to expand their own borders and eventually there came a time when these borders connected and with it chaos unfolded. The warfare spread between empires, sides were taken and massive fleets whose sheer tonnage rivaled entire star systems clashed spilling blood and metal at high enough quantities to spawn red rusted worlds of solid iron and rivers of of red. Yet the war didn’t reach its crescendo until the elders stepped in to end it. Using their incredible technologies and ample psychic power they managed to methodically cripple each empire with the exception of the Zudo who continued to lash out as their chaotic nonunified empire prevented consensus on ending the conflict. As a result they unleashed the most devastating weapon ever deployed in the cosmos, a D-wave Bomb.

Unfortunately their weapon was more effective than they thought possible. The entire Zudo empire along with a vast array of other worlds from other empires were lost as 30% of the universe from the core out, was turned into an unstable miasma called the red ocean, a place where space, time, physics, and even psychic phenomena occurred at such a frequency that it became entirely uninhabitable. The universe was so shocked by the devestation that in the year 3911 the Red Ocean Accords were drawn up and each empire agreed to abstain from conflict and aggressive expansion from that point onwards, and the refugees from the remnants of the Zudo empire were adopted into this new unified universal empire they called the Coalition.

The coalition had many great achievements, rebuilding the various empires worlds all across the cosmos, producing the twelve Planet sized D-wave computers whose combined calculations could accurately manage every minute piece of data in the coalitions collective databases, however by far their greatest achievement was discovering the edge of the universe. A discovery that both greatly excited and terrified the coalitions denizens. Though perhaps those in the latter mind set were the more accurate in hindsight.

The edge of the Universe was a strange crystalline looking liquid substance that initially seemed impenetrable growing more dense and energetic the deeper one went into it up to a point where physics itself would not allow one to continue. However the Elder had shown the capacity to violate the laws of physics before and after nearly a decade of deliberation from the coalition they were coaxed into doing it again and despite the great risk the Elders fired another D-Wave Bomb which unsurprisingly blew a hole in the membrane at the edge of the universe. What was surprising was what came next. As if they had been waiting for an eternity on the other side they came, in ships the size of cities with continents worth of beings on them came through…and they came through firing off weapons so numerous that they steamrolled through the meager exploration fleet and established a foothold on the edge of the universe promptly getting to work tearing down the rest of the membrane shielding our universe from their wrath.

In the Year 4012, a mere two years after the threat had arrived they had managed to completely conquer the Edge of the universe forming a large empire of their own, one that made no demands, that wanted for nothing, save for the destruction and in some cases assimilation of the denizens of our worlds. Fearing the worst the leaders of the coalition made a sort of backup plan. They crafted a planet sized ship called Elysium, and filled it with infant children from all the species of the coalition. Along with a staff of mechanical droids who would tend to the children. At first it was intended to be a backup in case of the Coalitions fall. However as the enemies pressed further and further into coalition territories and it became apparent that there was little they could do to stop the coming doom Elysium turned from a backup civilization into a vessel of retribution. The coalition altered its parameters to hold all of their collective military knowledge and blueprints for their technologies. Finally they sent the kids in the one place they thought they would be safe…into the red ocean.

The children spent 20 years in their metal world surrounded by red skies and the twelve D-wave computer worlds who raised these children for one purpose and one only…to be the heroes who would save the universe from the darkness that it had accidentally unleashed upon itself. While their 20 years in the Red Ocean was fruitful for them, they were raised to be unparalleled soldiers, Brilliant scientists, and Inspiring leaders. they built their own technologies, honed their skills, all the while knowing they would be needed. Finally on the 21st year of their lives the great world ship opened its hangars they were loaded into starships, and sent outside of the Red ocean in one glorious bubble spreading and expanding out of the void of the red ocean and into the void of space…only to find that 2000 years had passed sense they were sent out. The remnants of the coalition, a mere 5% of the universe surrounding the red ocean barely managed to hold onto order let alone mount any sizable defense. The once great empire is now brought low, surrounded on all sides by enemies, and slowly slipping into a nihilistic debauchery that was nearly as dangerous. No leader to unify them the remnant threatened to break up. Fortunately the Elysians were trained for just such an occasion. Unfortunately we cannot follow all of the Elysians stories as they number in the billions…however there was one Elysian vessel whose importance can very easily be said to take precedence over the others…those who make up the crew of the SS Thanatos War Cruiser, but of course you should know that…you are after all a part of that very crew.

Playable races of the coalition

These are the playable races of the story. While it seems like there is only five in reality to options are closer to Sixty as the Zudo are actually just a term to mean “young races” and they make up about fifty four different species many of which your welcome to invent yourself. The other four species including Elder ,Humans, Orcs, and The Forged are much larger and more powerful empires than any one Zudo world but are arguably equal to the entire Zudo Coalition.

The elder are by a large margin the oldest of the races in the cosmos wielding technology that is indistinguishable from magic for most. The elder use of their innate psychic power has become intertwined with all aspects of the elders life, to the point where their hyper advanced technologies only work for the elder themselves. Such technologies include armor that holds psychic energy to negate incoming damage telepathically controlled ships and machines, even swords that focus psychic energies into edges that can cut nearly anything. Even other races with psychic abilities find themselves laughably outclassed by even a single elder as their power has grown and developed since before most planets held intelligent life. That said the elder suffer from a prideful complex that prevents them from seeking to use other races technologies, and a sense of superiority that prevented them from breeding with other races even in the face of a decline of proliferation that threatens to drive them to extinction. That said Elder do tend towards altruism and heroics out of a belief that the universe is theirs and all in it are theirs to protect. Unfortunately their one track minds and unshakable pride has resulted in them taking some of the most catastrophic losses amongst all the races as most have faced their end on the front lines of battles against the dark forces. Among their great losses is the loss of the Dragozith clan who created their D-wave (dimensional wave) technologies rendering their most devastating weapons now as priceless commodities only to be used in the most dire of circumstances. That said even in their decline an Elder Psy Knight is one of the most devastating warriors in the cosmos able to go toe to toe with entire squadrons and even the gigantic mechs of the humans.

while the age of killing one another in droves has passed war has yet to leave the blood of humanity and many would consider them some of the most capable fighting forces in the universe. Humans are frail but their fragility when paired with their incredible ingenuity has given them a drive for development that rivals nearly any other race. The prime example being on the planet Gelial which saw an impending dark forces attack coming and requested aide from the massive human colony of Atrest the humans swarmed the world in the billions engineers and miners stripping the entire planet in a single year and crafted countless vessels evacuating the entire population while turning the planet itself into a hellish fortress that they manned with enough soldiers to populate two worlds. While the losses were in the hundreds of millions, the iron wills of mankind and the nigh suicidal tenacity of their shock troopers was enough to turn the foe away and turn the planet into a new military planet and outpost. While they lack the psychic power of the elders, or the sheer might and brutality of the Orcs, humanity possesses one of the most organized infrastructures in the coalition and have the highest population at a rate of nearly fifty to one. Among mankind the most powerful units are their cyber troops who are augmented with countless cybernetic augmentations that make them a match for any other life form in the cosmos give the proper mods of course.

The physically strongest and by far the loudest species in all the universe, the Orcs are brutal monstrous beings with no understanding of fear, a love of violence, and the inventors some of the greatest and most epic heavy metal in the universe. They curse all forms of divinity and rage against the “gods” of the cosmos, making them natural enemies of the Dark forces who claim to be gods. Orcs who survive to adulthood have in most cases seen more brutality and violence by that point than even battle hardened war veterans. Perhaps their most notable trait however is their sheer unwavering toughness as Orcs have been seen blowing themselves to kingdom come with high grande explosives only to survive the blast and continue beating their foes with whatever bits of hard stuff they can find. It has been theorized that Orcs may have been offshoots of the Elders as they seem to possess some kind of psychic power that is triggered when the orc plays music and can effect the entire battlefield doing things that sound normally could not, like travel through the vacuum of space, remove the sensations of fear and pain from others, increase the speed and strength of other Orcs, and even cause weapons and armor to be coated in flames or lightning, the greatest of Orcish battle bards can even open warp portals to call in reinforcements, with the most legendary orc battle bard Skaggs said to have been able to raise the dead. Needless to say when an orcish battle bard appears on the battlefield they become a top priority to protect as they have been known to turn the tide of battle with a single wicked solo.

once thought to be two separate species that just worked together it has become recently apparent that the forged are simply remotely controlled machine drones of the Actual artisans whom none have actually seen yet. Their drones are very advanced seemingly capable of virtually any task including upgrading themselves to alter what task they aim to complete. While the vast majority have outfitted themselves to be soldiers and warriors against the dark forces, just as many have adapted to take roles as navigators, medics, engineers, and any number of other tasks. Truly the forged have turned themselves into the backbone of the coalition filling roles that need filling regardless of what they may be, that said many are made uncomfortable by the fact that these machines are actually controlled by an unknown species, and because no two Forged drones look the same many are indistinguishable from human or even elder tech. These are easily some of the most adaptable beings in the cosmos.

The Zudo is the colloquial name for any species that was not yet advanced enough to attain warp travel but was given the technology nonetheless by the other races in the cosmos. Initially this began with the Zetains who received warp travel from the elders after nuclear war nearly destroyed their civilization, yet they were nearly stripped of this ability when they almost drove humanity to the same end about four thousand years ago (in the years 1960-1990.) eventually the primitive races seeing how outgunned they were by the big four empires banded together to form the Zudo, an empire strong enough that they nearly won the Great War until the elder came and leveled their entire territories creating the red ocean and condemning countless species to extinction. Those who survived did so by fleeing the center of the universe and being assimilated into the coalition forces. Since then the Zudo’s diversity has pushed them forward, even with the red ocean event cutting over 90% of their different worlds down, they still make up over five dozen species each with their own unique capabilities and currently make up the bulk of the coalitions population second only to humans in sheer number.

The Dark forces

The Dark forces are an unknown even 2000 years after their arrival. While at first we thought they were a particular species it soon became apparent that the dark forces could be us as well, Their strange evil power has turned countless members of all species into dark effigies. They possess a unique type of warp travel and a variety of abilities and powers like force fields, energy blasts, flight, regeneration, and even telepathic communication, all in addition to the abilities they possessed before as whatever race they may have once been. The only saving grace of it can even be called that is they do not seem to use any forms of technology instead using warped chaotic versions of whatever it is they take for their own. The stronger the Dark effigy the more quickly their effects can be utilized, however only a very few are capable of corrupting the living, most instead simply infect and corrupt the dead raising them as mindless drones. Those taken alive typically become more powerful as they retain their skills and intelligence just now warped by pure evil. They currently control 65% of the universe, with the last 5% being the red ring, and the 30% beyond that being the Red Ocean. Some of their ilk are even believed to be planet sized dark gods though none have confirmed such large specimens existence yet
