May The Me Be With You.
*warning, this is a lot of lore. If you have questions let me know as I am new and this will help me understand what things players are looking for here. I’ll be figuring out how to put up character sheets, lore pages, and other important aspects over the next few days and if everything goes according to plan this can be kicked off perhaps Monday. Let me know any questions you may have*
The Universe is a mindbogglingly large and ancient place, but it is neither Infinite nor eternal. In the year 2139 Humanity discovered this when they accessed Universal Rending technology that allowed them to travel across the void instantly. We found that the universe was a lot more populated than we thought, but the UR technology that had allowed our own voyage across the universe was not unique to us, rather like gravity, and even mathematics the technology that allowed the warp travel across the universe was a hurdle nearly all species would have to overcome. Many even came to think of this as the “great filter” that was the focal point of fermi’s paradox.
While they were very wrong it wasn’t readily apparent at the time. We humans spread far and wide in all directions and found that our empire was far from the only one. While they were spreading out mankind encountered A handful of other intelligent species at various levels of development. First they found the Gha-Horks which humans took to calling Orcs due to their resemblance to the mythological beings, yet their aggression and resilience made them very hard to deal with even with their far more primitive technologies and thus mankind left their space alone. Shortly afterwards they discovered another empire in the opposite direction, The Elders, also called Elves by humans. Luckily for mankind they were not only patient and understanding but seemed to seek peace above all else, a streak of luck made all the more apparent when we realized just how much more advanced than us they really were. This realization kept humanity from expanding too far into the elven territories.
By the year 3100 mankind’s empire had grown to encompass nearly two hundred planets with a population climbing into the hundreds of trillions and a healthy rate of expansion kept them from stagnating. Two more empires had also been found, The Artisans and their Machine slaves called the Forged often called Dwarves by mankind as if fitting a theme. The final empire was called the Zudo by all other empires and was a coalition of a several different species that developed near the same time in the center of our universe. One would think humanity and the others would be happy to learn they weren’t alone and for a time that was true…but it wasn’t long before the fear of things one couldn’t understand took its toll, a fear that unfortunately was not unique to humans.
The Expansion of mankind spurred the other empires to expand their own borders and eventually there came a time when these borders connected and with it chaos unfolded. The warfare spread between empires, sides were taken and massive fleets whose sheer tonnage rivaled entire star systems clashed spilling blood and metal at high enough quantities to spawn red rusted worlds of solid iron and rivers of of red. Yet the war didn’t reach its crescendo until the elders stepped in to end it. Using their incredible technologies and ample psychic power they managed to methodically cripple each empire with the exception of the Zudo who continued to lash out as their chaotic nonunified empire prevented consensus on ending the conflict. As a result they unleashed the most devastating weapon ever deployed in the cosmos, a D-wave Bomb.
Unfortunately their weapon was more effective than they thought possible. The entire Zudo empire along with a vast array of other worlds from other empires were lost as 30% of the universe from the core out, was turned into an unstable miasma called the red ocean, a place where space, time, physics, and even psychic phenomena occurred at such a frequency that it became entirely uninhabitable. The universe was so shocked by the devestation that in the year 3911 the Red Ocean Accords were drawn up and each empire agreed to abstain from conflict and aggressive expansion from that point onwards, and the refugees from the remnants of the Zudo empire were adopted into this new unified universal empire they called the Coalition.
The coalition had many great achievements, rebuilding the various empires worlds all across the cosmos, producing the twelve Planet sized D-wave computers whose combined calculations could accurately manage every minute piece of data in the coalitions collective databases, however by far their greatest achievement was discovering the edge of the universe. A discovery that both greatly excited and terrified the coalitions denizens. Though perhaps those in the latter mind set were the more accurate in hindsight.
The edge of the Universe was a strange crystalline looking liquid substance that initially seemed impenetrable growing more dense and energetic the deeper one went into it up to a point where physics itself would not allow one to continue. However the Elder had shown the capacity to violate the laws of physics before and after nearly a decade of deliberation from the coalition they were coaxed into doing it again and despite the great risk the Elders fired another D-Wave Bomb which unsurprisingly blew a hole in the membrane at the edge of the universe. What was surprising was what came next. As if they had been waiting for an eternity on the other side they came, in ships the size of cities with continents worth of beings on them came through…and they came through firing off weapons so numerous that they steamrolled through the meager exploration fleet and established a foothold on the edge of the universe promptly getting to work tearing down the rest of the membrane shielding our universe from their wrath.
In the Year 4012, a mere two years after the threat had arrived they had managed to completely conquer the Edge of the universe forming a large empire of their own, one that made no demands, that wanted for nothing, save for the destruction and in some cases assimilation of the denizens of our worlds. Fearing the worst the leaders of the coalition made a sort of backup plan. They crafted a planet sized ship called Elysium, and filled it with infant children from all the species of the coalition. Along with a staff of mechanical droids who would tend to the children. At first it was intended to be a backup in case of the Coalitions fall. However as the enemies pressed further and further into coalition territories and it became apparent that there was little they could do to stop the coming doom Elysium turned from a backup civilization into a vessel of retribution. The coalition altered its parameters to hold all of their collective military knowledge and blueprints for their technologies. Finally they sent the kids in the one place they thought they would be safe…into the red ocean.
The children spent 20 years in their metal world surrounded by red skies and the twelve D-wave computer worlds who raised these children for one purpose and one only…to be the heroes who would save the universe from the darkness that it had accidentally unleashed upon itself. While their 20 years in the Red Ocean was fruitful for them, they were raised to be unparalleled soldiers, Brilliant scientists, and Inspiring leaders. they built their own technologies, honed their skills, all the while knowing they would be needed. Finally on the 21st year of their lives the great world ship opened its hangars they were loaded into starships, and sent outside of the Red ocean in one glorious bubble spreading and expanding out of the void of the red ocean and into the void of space…only to find that 2000 years had passed sense they were sent out. The remnants of the coalition, a mere 5% of the universe surrounding the red ocean barely managed to hold onto order let alone mount any sizable defense. The once great empire is now brought low, surrounded on all sides by enemies, and slowly slipping into a nihilistic debauchery that was nearly as dangerous. No leader to unify them the remnant threatened to break up. Fortunately the Elysians were trained for just such an occasion. Unfortunately we cannot follow all of the Elysians stories as they number in the billions…however there was one Elysian vessel whose importance can very easily be said to take precedence over the others…those who make up the crew of the SS Thanatos War Cruiser, but of course you should know that…you are after all a part of that very crew.
