Aboran

Aboran is a good example of an elven city under human influence. The addition of complete walls, the architecture, the town's
harbor
- these are the main ways this influence has manifested. In fact, Aboran looks much different today than it did perhaps a thousand years ago, which is approximately how old it is.

Located just ten miles south from Reindir, the capital of Eldshaw, Aboran doesn't get much attention aside from naval traffic. It's a peaceful settlement that has never seen conflict, surviving from the farms in the outskirts and whatever goods are shipped by merchant ships on their way to Reindir. Points of interest include Market Square, the heart and focus of the town, and of course the Great Library which is one of the oldest and most valuable repositories of knowledge on the continent. Town is governed by the mayor who resides in his mansion close to the harbor.

Aboran's population is roughly 1500 (1800 with outskirts), mostly made up of elves and humans, though a few dwarves also have residence here. Order is kept by the Town Guard which maintains around 50 soldiers at all times.

Alicante

Built on the delta of the Shallow River which flows from the Hyer Mountains into the Shallow Sea, Alicante is one of the oldest settlements on the continent and has served as the capital city of the Kingdom of Asgard since its foundation nearly two thousand years ago. Several different critical trade routes pass through it, including the only other connection - beside Reindir's - with the western kingdoms across the Great Sea.

Alicante is the most metropolitan area of the kingdom, where each race is represented in the thousands. Of course, the majority is still human. The city occupies both banks of the Shallow River with two bridges as the main means of crossing. It is fully enclosed with a tall, thick wall that took decades to complete but guarantees safety to the citizens inside, especially in combination with the river-fed moat. There are twelve city gates in total; two main gates facing outwards, seven public gates facing the river, and three more for the Royal Palace and Fort Artan. The city is divided by the river into Northwest Alicante and Southeast Alicante:

Northwest Alicante is entered through the Gates of Winter that open to the road to Reindir. This half of the city contains the Royal Palace which has an additional inner wall and moat separating it, accessible through the King's Gate or the emergency bridge that links it with Fort Artan. Other points of interest include the Frigid Square, Tenárus Square, and Justice Square. There is a harbor on this side of the delta just outside the Asgard Gates. The northwestern part of Alicante is mostly inhabited by the noble, rich, both, or those who hold an otherwise important role in the city. This is the city's older slightly older part and as such gives an impression of order, peace, and culture in contrast to the more lively Southeast Alicante.

Southeast Alicante is entered through the Gates of Summer that open to the road to Darran, Ridge, and ultimately South Asgard. This city half contains Fort Artan, headquarters of the Royal Army, which is protected by an inner wall like the palace (to which it also connects through the emergency bridge). Main access is through Hyer Gates, though there is an additional gate opening out to the riverside, the Admiralty Gates. Other points of interest are the Asgard Square and Commerce Square, as well as the city's larger harbor on the delta outside the Harbor Gates and Seafarer's Gates. The central administration of the Creationist Temple of the Maker can also be found here. All in all, the southeastern part of Alicante is inhabited mostly by merchants, craftsmen, fishermen, and the like. It is also where most of the city's visitors find a place to stay, as it is arguably more entertaining and colorful than Northwest Alicante.

Alicante has been ruled by an unbroken line of kings and queens from the founding Tenárus bloodline up until the Sorceress Ilhirel killed the old king and took over the throne. Yet hope still remained as long as the last, secret heir lived that the line would not perish. Until then, Ilhirel rules the capital and the rest of Asgard with an iron fist, supported by her first general Niara Shadowleaf.

The total population of Alicante is estimated to be upwards from 120 000 people (including outskirts), making it the biggest settlement in Asgard by far. The City Watch has around 3500 guardsmen in active service while the Royal Army numbers 7000 soldiers actually stationed in the city. This number is made up of mostly surviving units from the Great War that did not flee to form the Resistance, plus the new fighting force nourished since - the total number of current Royal Army members across Asgard is estimated at about 20 000 strong (down from 30 000 at its peak).

Dunn

The city of Dunn is located on the western bank of the great river Dunnaev, some twenty miles from the foothills of Darkvale Mountains. It lies on the intersection of two important routes; Fangír-North Eldshaw and Frigid Wastes-North Eldshaw. Being the only major town in the region, Dunn sees plenty of traffic. It is the closest city to the dwarven capital of Darkreach, so it is no surprise that Dunn is the favorite dwarven retreat outside of their mountainous homeland. The population consists of a human majority with equal parts elven and dwarven.

The city is divided into three districts: the North Quarter houses the Lord's castle, main barracks, Mages Guild, the Academy, and the local Justice Square (as well as the wealthier part of the population). South Quarter is where the Maker's Temple and secondary barracks are, as well as Market Square which makes this district the focus of all trade. The Riverfront district extends along the river Dunnaev, mostly made up of fishing posts and docks, and of course the poorer segment of the population. The city has two entrances - the Main Gates that lead out into the Outskirts and the Riverfront Gates that lead out on the riverbank. The two are connected by the busiest road that runs across Brook Square, named after the Lord of Dunn.

The most prominent points of interest, aside the town squares, are the castle, Academy, and temple. The Mages Guild also maintains a strong presence from their tower on the east end of town. The local graveyard is just outside the Main Gates.

The city is ruled by Astor Brook, the Lord of Dunn, from his castle in the northern part of town, which is also where the main barracks are. Total population number is about 8000 (8500 including the Outskirts). The City Watch counts 300 soldiers in active service, in addition to the garrison of 50 permanently stationed in the castle.

Ridge

Ridge started out as a military settlement on the delta of the river Sava, serving as a strong point to control southern Hyerim. Eventually it expanded and grew into a city, gaining more and more significance in the process. Ever since peace was established in Asgard, Ridge lost much of its former spotlight but still presents an important strategic point.

The city is situated on the easternmost shores of the Shallow Sea, and is vital for trade between the provinces of Eldshaw and Daskárd. Another important trading route is that between the capital, Alicante, and southern Hyerim. Ridge is divided into three parts. The river Sava which flows through the middle of town separates the West and East quarters. Though technically in the East Quarter, being on that side of the river, the Lord's Quarter is a section for itself. An additional line of walls divides it from the rest of Ridge.

Among points of interest foremost is the Academy - a place of learning and high education, though it should be pointed out that this university does not deal in magic. The city has three main squares: Market Square is where all the trading takes place, Tereyn Square is a residential area named after Lord Tereyn of Ridge, and finally the Justice Square where one of the two town barracks are positioned. The name derives from the tribunals that take place there on occasion - though the same square is used for public executions as well.

The city is governed by Lord Tereyn of Ridge from his castle in the Lord's Quarter. This is also where the town's other barracks are located. Total population of Ridge exceeded 7000 (7500 with outskirts) on the last resident count. Members of all races can be found here, but the humans make up the vast majority. The City Watch numbers at least 150 regular soldiers, plus the Lord's personal guard of 20. However there are around 50 more men in emergency reserve.
