M A I N S E T T I N G
the home of the gods were absolutely magnificent, architectual masterpieces said to have been constructed by the very first generation of immortals who had sought peace and tranquility away from the calamity of humanity. however, as eons flew by, the purpose of the paradise changed as more gods and goddesses came into being, and with them, more symbolized power. as more gods and goddesses sought to mark their domains elsewhere (example: hades in the underworld), the old home became more of a centre of activity for the gods, a common place where the more important gods met and discussed important matters, and the lesser ones would simply enjoy each other's company.
for the longest time, peace reigned both realms. despite the fact that the immortals and mortals had irreparably separated, no longer bonded like they once were, there was no ill will between them. each species was content with minding to their own, and peace blossomed.

this night
is cold in the kingdom

but as time went by, things began to change once more. the humans began to spread like wildfire across the globe, their human flaws going along with it and manifesting in evil; conquering and murdering each other in the name of territory, belief, and power.
at first, most of the gods didn't even notice; only a select few, who spent most of their time on earth, noticed and were understandably concerned. but nothing ever came out of it; no one had dared to intervene. for the longest time, it was nothing more than just an 'out of sight, out of mind' situation. as long as the peace remained, everything was fine.

until it wasn't.

as time went by and human depravity grew, many gods began to take notice. and after witnessing just how impure and fallen their creations were, the gods were so disturbed and displeased to the point where they decided to attack the masses to teach them a lesson, shattering the peace that had existed between the two species for eons.

the consequences of this decision were absolutely disastrous for humanity; even more destruction and death ensued, thousands upon thousands of lives lost to the attacks, entire civilizations shattered by the sheer wrath of the gods.
a considerable number deities however, did not agree or like what they were seeing. these were a group of (mostly) gods of virtue, and they severely opposed the attacks. it didn't take long until gods began to take sides, turning against one another and betraying a millennia's worth of trust and companionship.

the result was war.

a long, long, bitter war, a war so ferocious that went it started, it shook the earth to it's very foundation. a war so formidable and resentful that it was passed down from generation to generation, both god and mortal.
still, to this day, the war is not finished, despite many attempts at peace and negotiation. this is the result.

I can feel you fade away

as for the mortals, they had grown from just a few thousand to millions in the span of a millennia, making their homes all over the globe. but since the war began, their numbers became fewer and fewer as they got caught in the crossfire, and the number grows dangerously less with every passing moment. however, there is some hope; many towns where a considerable amount of mortals live gained the protection of benevolent deities who were on their side, towns much like these:

T H E G O D S

i expect mostly everyone here to have a basic knowledge of the myths and stories surrounding gods like zeus or hades, but just in case, here are some good links to websites that explain it all:

greek deities
norse deities
roman deities

Here are the rules concerning the deities of this roleplay.

TYPES OF MYTHOLOGICAL GODS ALLOWED:
-norse
-greek
-roman

ARE DEMI-GODS ALLOWED?
yes, demi-gods are allowed; bastard children, half-human abominations, etc yadda yadda yadda, HOWEVER there will be a limit to the amount of demi-gods that will be in the roleplay just because we all know people go crazy over this stuff lmao

ARE YOU ALLOWED TO MAKE YOUR OWN DEITY?
normally i'd be iffy on this, BUT if you showed me your idea and it works with the roleplay and the plot, then i'll accept it.

HOW CREATIVE CAN YOU BE IN MAKING YOUR DEITY?
as a firm believer in the spirit of inventiveness, i don't mind people not going by the book when it comes to following the myths. if for example, someone had the idea of creating a demi-god character that would be another bastard son of zeus, they'd totally be free to manipulate and fit that into the actual myth to make it work.

OTHER CREATURES?

earth is not only full of human and godly life, but with other life as well; creatures beyond your conventional rabbit or dog - creatures so hideous and repulsive and violent that even uttering their names brings fear to any and every man. these creatures are almost always sorry products of unholy unions of either mortal or immortal beings coupled with animals of all sorts, with occasional dark magic thrown into the mix. most of the creatures of this world spend their lives serving their godly masters, acting as henchmen to carry out their masters' deeds and wishes.

Rules Concerning Other Creatures

in short, the roleplay will have creatures other than humans and gods, so if anyone would want to create one they could, as long as it's a creature from either greek, norse, or roman myth. but like the rule with demi-gods, there will be a limit.

ARE YOU ALLOWED TO CREATE YOUR OWN CREATURE?
once again, i'd rather you take one from myth, but if the idea around the character is good enough, i'd accept it. in theory.

The Falling Out

the heavens are, and have been, in a state of division for a very long time. the war has broken the unity the gods shared between one another; now, all there is are two warring sides, constantly doing their best to overpower the other in an effort to accomplish their goal. in simpler terms, it is a struggle of ideas, of godly politics - political parties out for each others' throats. who will triumph? who will fall? which side will win, and finally put an end to this bitter war?

but like all politics, the sides are almost never clear cut - lines blur and loyalties, desires, shift with the tide. as a result, one has to wonder, is there really ever a winner?

when the war first started, the intentions were different - there were gods who supported attacking humanity to teach them a lesson, and there were gods who opposed that, viewing the attacks as nothing more than an agent for even more death and destruction. and they were not wrong; many died, both mortal and immortal, but as time went by, the intentions changed quite rapidly - it soon became question of whether to preserve or to destroy humanity and to this day, the question is still unanswered.

GODS AGAINST HUMANITY. (symbolized by hades)

This side of the divide hold their ForeFather hades as the symbol of their beliefs. the gods on this side have their own reasons of course, but in general, they believe in the annihilation of humanity in the hopes to to restart history, to create a better, stronger version of humanity to rule over, a humanity that never turned it's back on their immortal counterparts, a humanity that never betrayed them, a humanity incapable of becoming rebellious and in their view, evil. these gods also oppose being in contact with humans - strongly against relationships of any kind with humans, and consider products of those relationships (demi-gods mostly) as blasphemous abominations.

gods that commonly hold these beliefs are gods of judgment and retribution - the gods of death and war would most likely see humanity as nothing more than weak, sniveling wretches, but of course, nothing is ever as black and white as that.

GODS FOR HUMANITY. (symbolized by zeus)

This side holds their Forefather Zeus as a general symbol of their beliefs. gods on this side of the divide have their own reasons, but in general, they are for the preservation of humanity. they see humanity as a shepherd would see a sheep that has lost it's way, spiraling down into destruction, and that attacking them would cause more harm than good. they acknowledge that it was humanity that had betrayed them, but it's not entirely their fault - they believe that the gods are also at fault here, for not intervening before it was too late. they aim to protect humanity by countering the gods on the other side and stopping their attacks. most of these gods don't mind being in contact with mortals, and some even go as far as to sign contracts with entire towns to become their guardians, should they ever need defending. it is not uncommon for gods on this side to be romantically involved or friends with humans, but even with that said, it's still considered a taboo.

gods who hold these beliefs are commonly gods of virtue and light, gods of life and anything else positively associated, (such as fertility and harvest).

DISCLAIMER. as mentioned before, the lines are blurry when it comes to these kinds of things. there are also gods who sit on the fence, unsure or by choice, not wanting to be involved.
