- Ricther - The Thaumaturge - Valley of Magic -

Thankfuly, the man allowed them to stay, lowering his scimitar and even escorting them to the village, the man seemed pleased at Richter's interest in the spirits, and his descriptions seemed like the common restless wraiths you'd see in books. They soon arrived at the village and promptly booked rooms for everyone.

During the night Ricther offered to keep watch for spirits in place of Valery, but he met protest from four other mages and Aislinn herself, all demanding him get some rest. This annoyed him, but he sighed and went along with it...for a while. A few hours later he attempted to sneak out, but was caught by a pair of mages who were reading books and chatting, both of which forced him back, and would not let him leave. Richter gave up at the watch that night and went to sleep soundly, albeit still annoyied. But said annoyiance faded after he woke up, and was time to leave for the valley.

////

The valley was as one'd expect, high concentrations of raw itika and mana, uncanny presences and surroundings included, in the corners of their visions they saw shadows that weren't supposed to be there, Tiru was gathering scoops of Itika, Valery had just been handed a crystal from Aislinn.

His body reacted oddily to the raw mana in the air, his eyes began glowing a bit more than usual, his hair maitaining its usual glow, his body was finely attuned to magic, and a place such as this filled with Itika was bound to resonate with his body. Nothing lethal or dangerous, it was simply a reaction. With two snaps of his fingers he had a mage bring him something he asked for prior to the expedition back at the court's headquarters.

The mage opened her backpack and pulled out what seemed like a blank white crystal of some kind and handed it to Ricther. He held it in one hand as he extended his free arm, holding out his hand as a flash of azure blue light emanated from his hand, and following it a bright blue pole-like rod appeared in his hand, it was the same color of his hair, it glew with holy energy in an azure blue hue. Richter slammed it into the ground, pinning the rod in place with one end, as the other end had a claw-like hold, he placed the blank crystal into it and the claw closed, holding the crystal in place. And within seconds the itika particles in the air began to be absorbed by the crystal, the Rod was simply a means of holding the crystal in place as it absorbed the Itika particles in the air around them.

A blank magic crystal was commonly used in processes such as alchemy, usualy infused with elements to achieve a certain effect, non trained mages loved using blank crystals to control their magic for example, and the best part was that blank crystals were extremely cheap to buy, considering any mage who had knowledge of earth could specialize in crystalmancy and make their own blank crystals. Richter had provided the funds and the mage he spoke to went and bought a whole bunch of them.

"Thank you, Ivanny. Now hand me another." Richter spoke to the mage, with red hair, a pair of glasses and a shy look to her. She handed him another crystal as he did the same thing as the last one. Richter would go on to place around five or so crystals in their area, each spread out as to not interfere with the gathering or the other.

The blank crystals would turn into charged Itika crystals in very short time, considering the density of such material in the air.

"Itika rods are in place." He notified his fellow mages and Aislinn, Elliot and Valery.

- Henry - A very churroed man - Churros stand in Sanctus Heights -

Well, in a cruel, or uncruel twist of fate. Henry found the churros stand alongside the others, but he also found a lot of churros dipping, straight on top of him, mostly landing on his upper torso, face and hair. Henry remained rather silent as the girl apologized and offered him a napkin, he had just wiped the dipping from his eyes as his friends joked and teased him. The girl was indeed familiar, yet he couldn't figure out why as he had never seen her before, she seemed to share the sentiment as well.

A very slight blush form on Henry's cheeks as he frowned at every one of his friends who teased him. "I've never been to Sanctus Before!" He exclaimed. Before turning to Elia. And sighing before speaking to her in a soft and friendly tone. "You certainly don't look like a stranger...but I can't remember where we could have met before." Henry told her. Before turning towards Vincent, "And I don't break any hearts! Dammit!" Henry exclaimed, Daruk used the dipping on him to use as dipping for his own churros, which Henry looked at the Maester with a horrified expression, which turned into a frown. "Et, Tu, Daruk?" He asked.

The napkin proved rather uneffective at getting rid of the churros dipping on him. He turned to Elia again, "Im going to need more napkins...and a chocolate filled churros please." He asked her.

Henry tried to hide the embarrassment in his face the best he could, but he would ultimately fail and just go along with all of it with a small smile.

Luka-Somnum- Dauntless

Luka, seeing the beast through her shield of glass. Was not quick enough to dodge the beast. She found herself on the ground. Balena atop her. Her eyes still barely open. “Living Lightning” her body then turned to electricity zipping through the air in three defined strokes before returning to normal behind the balena. As he body reformed there was severe damage and Luka hit the ground hard, completely unable to breath. She saved herself from being hit with the pain of the acidic ink but may have created another situation for herself. The glass barrier fell as she lost focus.

Saffron- In the Bar

Saff watched as Gabriel began to eliminate his targets. Her eyes widened at the barbarism. Just as the bullets were fired towards Kiev, she swung her arms down. “STOP!” She exclaimed activating the metal magic without any thought. All pieces of metal in the area were forced downwards, this threw Saff herself to the ground as the strap to her gun was tugged hard, as well as all the tables being splintered at their legs and the bullets dropping just enough to hit Kiev in the leg, rather than his vitals, if they hit at all.

Isabelle- Umbra- Bridge Battle

Isabelle sighs as she watches Eleanor frenzy into one of the bandits, throwing Gorvin’s body to the ground as she did. “Taking the fun for yourself... how droll.” she then looked to Pali. “Could you patch up my hand for me? My fingers are a bit stiff from all the ice magic.” She smiled kindly. It was covered in blood and frost. If she used much more ice magic she might’ve frozen the blood in her veins.

- Thea Nero - Court of Somnum: Eastern Sea - The Dauntless -

The Professor watched as the balaena in front of her avoided her attack, it must have been on its last legs but it was still able to avoid such an attack. And then it went for Luka. Nero was late to react and quickly went after the creature, leaving Kagura inside the ice barrier.

"Stay here Kagura. This will keep you safe for the time being," the Professor said to the Dancer, "don't worry, this is almost over. Only three more creatures remain."

The moment Nero stepped outside the barrier she aimed her staff as it changed form towards the balaena that was currently near Luka, who was already on the ground. The Maestra closed her eyes and focused on her staff, making it absorb the arcane energy from her lightning spell.

"You will not touch her!" Nero yelled as she threw the now electrified spear towards the creature, "this will be your end!"

The spear was aimed specifically to the chest of the creature, it was meant as a finishing blow to help Luka avoid being attacked by the balaena, and, hopefully, Laguna's attack would be enough to take care of the rest of the hostile creatures.

Jynn Venas - Vivifica - Onboard the train

Irritated, the conductor rises to his full height, clearly an attempt to intimidate the two mages. Jynn remains unfazed, merely moving his gaze upwards, and keeping a blank expression. The conductor explains the situation, stating that he had to investigate the matter. And apparently, the thief stole the bag from the old lady who called him out, and she has been taken into custody for possessing the bag. However, his claims that the thief was confiscating it and reporting it were complete nonsense. The thief knew that the bag contained Itika, that is why he used it for “self defense”, not only that, he deliberately used it to resist judgment. Jynn merely chuckles as he faces the thief. “Really? ‘Self defense’? Blowing up a train and killing innocent passengers is “self defense” in your eyes? What was it you said? Oh yea, “The hard way sounds a lot more fun.” Yeah, that’s what I heard. Had you explained the situation, I would’ve believed you. Not only that, I didn’t have intentions of killing you. My gun was raised so I would intimidate you, but the safety was on.”

Jynn looks back at the conductor. “But I digress. Defending ourselves is clearly pointless. Now that this incident has happened, you’ll always try to point your fingers at us. I am glad that the owner of the Itika has been dealt with, but remember this, you’re accusing those who saved the lives of hundreds on this transit merely because of our court affiliation, and letting this man, who has took innocent lives today, free.” He turns his back towards the conductor. “I will remain quiet for the remainder of the trip, but I will ask you to think about all of this. Good day.”
Jynn heard the man try to insult him, but once again, does not give him the satisfaction, instead, Jynn returns to his seat, and notices a slip. He opens it up and reads it.

Name: Melstrome (Mel)
Breed: Thoroughbred
Height: 17 Hands
Weight: 1,248 lbs/566.08 kg
Health: Exhausted from ordeal and slightly lame on the left foreleg, but is in excellent health.

It was probably from one of the caretakers. It was relieving to see at least someone is looking out for them. Jynn looks to Zion. “I feel that this whole incident was a setup.”

- Pali Noirtier, Umbra Court, by the end of the battle on the Big Bridge -

Pali stiffened at Gerik's request, eyes locking forward as if puzzled or interested before smirking.

"Very well, Maester," he replied with a bow, mentally finishing the conversation with a wishful thought that he could run and react very quickly in order to catch up with the fleeing rogues.

He turned and was about to set off when Isabelle came up to him, smiling and asking for assistance. How could he refuse someone as comely and young as Lev, let alone a chance for a laud? He was no medic, but his powers made medicinal knowledge obsolete. Putting a gloved hand onto hers for a few seconds, he mumbled words under his breath and replaced his hand to his side, smiling afterwards. Isabelle's hand should look clean, fully healed, and unscarred.

"There you are, miss. Try not to make it a habit to come to me harmed, hmm?"

In a flurry of wind, he rushed off, heading in the direction of the remnants of the Ebon Flame. With a quick eye, he scanned over the bunch and, deeming one of the crossbowmen a little bit more intelligent-seeming than the rest, stopped him short with a firm hand, his grin a little twisted and maniacal.

"You. You're coming with me. The Maester wishes to have a chat with you well worth your while. All he asks in return is a few honestly answered . . . harmless questions."

Laguna had impeccable timing, as the Balaena had fallen into a false sense of security with the mages that they had on deck. Balaena #2 (#6 in Kuni's post) was well in the afterlife thanks to both the hammer swings as well as the blast of lightning, while Balaena #1, which had been stunned from previous lightning damage, was well unconscious from the second blast, barely clinging to life. Jari, however, saw to that, with the plunge of his knife that permeated its rubbery flesh and striking a lung and tore through arteries. It made no sound, and died silently in a matter of minutes. The second blast of lightning emitted from Mako verified that the job had been done, in case either had any remaining life in them and/or the gumption to spit ink or sap mana from the mages.

Balaena #5, however, was out of range of both Mako and Laguna's lightning strikes, pursuing Luka and quite gleeful to be doing so. After Luka displayed her impressive usage of lightning magic to dematerialize behind the Balaena it whipped around, tendrils exposed, and prepared to wrap them tightly around the mage and get a good latch on the flesh of her neck. Before its needle-thin teeth could sink into her skin, however, Nero took note to the mage's need for aid and delivered. The Balaena was so enraptured with Luka that it didn't notice Professor Nero approach or the spear she threw. Its body flashed as lightning coursed through it, skeleton visible within, before it fell limp onto the Somnum mage, spear protruding from its chest as black ink seeped through it. If this ink got onto Luka, it would burn and poison upon contact.

"I think that's all of them." Mellark adjusted his javelin with a twirl, moving toward Kagura, Jari, and Mako before offering a swift nod toward Laguna. "That was some fancy footwork there. I must say, I have never seen you in combat before."

The hours rolled onward, the mages all busily harvesting Itika, some utilizing their own unique means of doing so while others just scooped it up by the handful. Aislinn said nothing as her hands deftly gathered Itika, though her eyes were fixated on one of the peaks in the distance. It seemed that something about the valley unsettled Valery, though she was not alone in her concern. Elliot, too, seemed on high alert, coursing tension through Tiru and a couple of the other mages.

"Thank you, Richter," Aislinn said, appreciative that the mage had concocted a means to gather Itika efficiently, and swiftly. They would need it for what the maestra planned to do, and even then this trip likely wouldn't provide enough. Perhaps one more journey–

A clattering of a chain could be heard from behind Valery, a shadow extending before her, one which did not belong to her. Wrapped in scarlet cloth and donning a lantern was a tall figure swaying in the breeze. Its claw-like fingers extended beyond its robes, its face blackened and shade elongated. Glowing amber red eyes peered from the shadowy face, its mouth opening to reveal nothing but a gaping hole. A high-pitched laugh echoed throughout the valley, and two more similar figures swirled into existence, across from the others.

FRESH MANA! one of them wheezed, whooshing toward Aislinn at an alarming speed. The maestra cried and flung out her arms, a gust of wind extending forth and blowing the spirit away. It shook itself, studying the other mages with a hungered expression.

"What are these things?!" Tiru demanded, leaping up and spilling Itika from his bag. The spirit nearest him swooped in, inhaling the Itika with a sickening suction sound. Its body began to glow, its eyes shifting from their red to a violet. Its features grew slightly more humane, its claws shrinking more into the form of hands, its face shrinking and portraying that of a woman. Her skin was still black, and her appearance still ethereal. She swerved around them, contemplating Tiru's answer before responding: "We have no desire to explain ourselves to you. You are naught by vile mongrels to us. Begone!"

With that she took in more raw mana and concentrated it into the sky, which darkened as a result. It seemed she was calling upon something or preparing a spell, as she began to utter an incantation in an unearthly voice.

"Stop that thing!" Tiru shouted, readying a bow and preparing to shoot the spirit woman. The two others hounded the other mages, making it clear that they would guard their comrade should an attack be made.

The remaining four fervently thanked Pali for sparing them, though escape still remained an impossibility to them due to the wall of ice that Isabelle had used to trap them. Gerik wanted the remainders, and had been assuring their capture. These survivors did not survive long, however, as Eleanor approached with a bloodlust that could hardly be quenched. Gerik attempted to reach out to her, though whether her words would reach her was unknown. Relief flooded the crossbowman's face as Pali insisted that he walk with him, despite the maniacal look on Pali's face and the fact that the man tried to kill him only moments ago while nearly succeeding. "Y-yes, certainly, milord!" he said nervously, gladdened to be spared from Eleanor's impalement. He did not know what fate awaited him, but if it didn't entail to having his throat slit, he figured that it must be good.

The raven left the blond servant boy's shoulder and took to the sky. He wasn't particularly concerned; his pet always returned to him. This boy, Micah, stood a respectful distance to Gerik, not close enough to eavesdrop, but near enough to bid his master's calling should the need for him arise.

The battle was over, and the mages dully were returning to their carriages as though nothing had happened. While Pali was distracted, Everyth slipped into his carriage. She sat on one side and threw her feet on the bench opposite her, relaxing in a reclined position and making herself at home. Perhaps a conversation with this "wishful thinker" would be fruitful.

Nothing could wash away Elia's guilt from spilling churros all over the mage, and she felt heat rise in her cheeks when the other mages began teasing him about potentially knowing a girl. It did disappoint her when Henry said that he didn't know her, for some reason making her stomach sink in a disappointed and pained way.

"Right, well, I figured that I wouldn't know a court mage," Elia murmured, gaze falling to the ground. "There's just something that I can't quite . . . ."

Shiroo interrupted, shoving Elia aside and moving toward the counter. As he nudged her, she found that he'd slipped a few coppers into the crook of her arm. It wasn't a lot, but enough to re-purchase the churros that she had spilt. A small smile crept over her face, as she bowed at Henry's request. "Oh, yes, yes, of course!"

It didn't take her or the others long to make their purchases, the concession stand manager delighted to have made such a profit at the unfortunate run-in, and the others likely delighted at the scrumptious dessert that melted in their mouths. Upon the mention of the automaton Elia's eyes lit up.

"Oh! You must mean the one in Central Square! It is huuuuge!"–she stretched her arms for emphasis, whacking Arun in the face on accident–"I know the way. I could take you there if you'll let me!"

Neither the conductor or thief offered a word as Jynn offered his rebuttal. The conductor watched with a solemn expression as he walked away, the thief looking a bit more frightful. His gaze darted from Jynn to the conductor quite frequently, the redhead realizing that he was only one lie away from winding himself up in prison for an insufferable length of time.

The course of an hour would pass rather slowly, likely due to silence reigning in the train car that Jynn, likely Zion, and the two guardsmen were in. The family sitting behind the mages were a bit distraught about the event that had come to pass, the kids encouraged to quietly read or continue their activities and not bother the mages. This didn't stop the boy from peering at Jynn over his seat every now and again, shooting him somber glances and clearly having a desire to bolt out of his seat to converse with him and Zion again.

The train would roll to a halt, and the family would waste no time in exiting the train. Security would move forward, offering to grab the mage's luggage.

The woman was put out of her misery rather swiftly thanks to Gabriel's bullet. The bullet didn't fail in missing its target, embedding deep within her chest where her heart immediately ceased to beat. Kiev would have endured a similar fate, though was spared by Saffron's metal magic. The bullets swerved, clipping his left calf and causing him to howl in pain. The gravity bullet was losing effect, causing him to crash to the ground against the wall.

Tibarn's gaze flickered from Saff to Gabriel, wondering if the two would get in a dispute over whether to keep him alive or not. It seemed that there was already a conflict of interests, given Saff's desire to save him. Apart of him wondered if it was to turn him in, but he also couldn't help but secretly wonder if she didn't want him dead. There was no way that he could know.

The rogue ripped the train tickets from Kiev's pocket, thrusting them into his own before bringing the blade of his weapon to the fire mage's throat. "You're lucky that someone is vouching for you," he growled under his breath. "If it were me I'd run this clean through, and I take it that I'm not the only one if Gabe's actions are any indicator."

He glanced toward Arno and Gabriel in turn, before shooting Saff a quick glance and saying: "I understand that you want him alive, but we've already gotten ourselves in a bit of messy business, and now we have a train to catch. If we hand him over we also have the bartender and those other two goons to account for, meaning we might not be able to get out of this one clean." There was also the fact that Tibarn himself didn't have the most pristine of records on file, but he wasn't going to delve into that here. "If you want him, we'll walk away and leave you to your business, but I wouldn't trust him to not work his magic if I were you, even if he's wounded now."

MEANWHILE . . . .

A tower in a distant corner of Eryx overlooked the canyon of Umbra, the Big Bridge a blur in the distance. A figure in a blue robe stood gazing out of an elongated window, arms folded across his chest. A raven soared forth, landing on his shoulder and pecking at his hood. Behind him a door opened, and in stumbled a ragged individual clad in black, with knives strapped to either thigh.

"Master," he murmured, seeming a bit breathless, as though he'd just returned from a run. "Our members have met with the Umbra caravan and failed! They have taken the mage girl!"

A smile curved upon the hooded man's face, striding away from the window to face the newcomer. "Just as I had hoped."

The man at the door seemed particularly confused about his master's response, cocking his head slightly in confusion. "My lord?"

"This is what I planned, phase one has begun"–his gaze shifted toward a map on the table, one which detailed the court of Somnum–"now Umbra knows our name. A small price to pay for what we shall gain."

- Thea Nero - Court of Somnum: Eastern Sea - The Dauntless -

And just as quick as the battle began, it was quickly over. The balaenas were destroyed by the joined effort of the mages of Somnum. All of them had been working together to get rid of the creatures and that was a good signs on the Professor's eyes.

"Good job everyone," Nero said as she quickly moved towards Luka, "The threat has been eliminated."

Nero picked her spear from the balaeana's body and it quickly turned into water that protected both of the Maestra's hands. She quickly took hold of the creature's body and pulled it away from Luka, hopefully before any ink would come in contact with her. Meanwhile the ice barrier around Kagura would turn into water rather quickly.

"Are you alright, Miss Rabbi?" Nero asked as she helped Luka stand up, "If you need any form of healing, I am here to help."

If Luka would accept, then the Maestra would heal her from any injury she might have had. She then turned around to take a look at the state of the deck, seeing some of the creatures' bodies and the rest of the mages.

"Alright, everyone, check with each other for any potential damage, those who are able to use healing magic, please, use it to help those who need it. Also, be careful if you attempt to move the bodies of the creatures. It seems that touching their ink can cause certain effects." Nero said as she began to walk away, "I will inform the captain and the crew that the danger has passed and it is safe to come to the deck."

The Maestra then quickly left to search for the captain and the rest of the Dauntless crew to report that the balaenas had been killed. Her spell should have been gone by now and she hoped that each of the member of the crew were alright.

- Arkane from Umbra Court - The Big Bridge -
Arkane was tired, and he would look over at the crossbowman. He would look at Pali, a hand on his hip as the rest of his own creatures would disappear with the bodies that they had gathered. "Pali! Once you are done with him, think I can have him over at my carriage?" He asked, glaring at him. "This man shot me right on the shoulder, after all. I would love to have a conversation with him." He hissed, glaring at the crossbowman. His attention turned to Eleanor, glaring at the mage gone wild. "HEY! Eleanor! Knock it off! It is over!" He yelled. "If you cannot control your bloodlust you are no better than the names they call us outside the tower." He looked down at his robes and frowned, turning away. "I am heading back to my carriage." He said, waving away at them as he would return to it. He climbed into his carriage, his resurrected dog already there waiting for him. Arkane would take a seat and pick up the dog, who would curl up against his lap. Arkane would close his eyes and lean back against his seat. He sighed, turning to look out the window. "So much for a peaceful trip." He sighed, petting the dog's head as the dog would close its eyes and enjoy the petting happily.

- Arun & Vincent from Ignis Court - Sanctus Heights -
Vincent would smile at Elia and nod. "Yes please! Think you can lead us? I have been hearing so much about it, I hear that it is the biggest one ever built within the kingdom!" He chimed, his eyes glistening. Arun would eat, watching everyone amused as they talked to each other and hyped each other up. Arun would be quiet as he would dip his churro into the sauce and eat up happily. Vincent would chew on the sugary treat and cover his mouth as he spoke. "What are we waiting for?! Lead us to the automaton!" He chimed, turning to look around and then back at Elia. "Have you lived here all of your life, Elia?" He asked, walking backwards as Arun served to watch over him and make sure that he did not walk into a wall or into someone. "Be careful, Vincent." Arun would remind him, eating some more of his tasty treat. He was about to bite down again before he felt the loud smack right on his face, smacking the sugar against his face along with it. He would feel his nose tickle and he would sneeze loudly against his shoulder. Now he had a red nose and sugar up his nose. Oh well, it could not possibly get worse.

(Luka- Somnum- Dauntless, Post Battle.)

Luka’s breathing slowly returning to normal after the Balena was pulled off her. she waited she simply laid there on the deck, staring at the sky. Her Javelin began to reform after she managed to mutter a few arcane words. Taking hold of it, she slowly stood up. Using the weapon as a crutch to help her stand. Her body looked completely slashed up from her dematerialization. “The conversion magic is still not safe.... I have a bit of internal damage but nothing that will immediatly kill me. Tend to the others first.” She coughed before slowly making her way back down below deck. Her eyes scanning for her blanket.

(Saffron- Tavern, Post Battle.)

Saff growled as she eyes Kiev. “......fine... Lets just hope the authorities get their hands on him...” she says as she slowly stands up. The force of the metal magic’s pull was rather excessive for her. It was clear she wasnt used to it. She began to move to follow the three of them. “I owe you that explination... would you mind if i told you when we are in the clear?”

(Isabelle- Umbra- Big Bridge, Post Battle.)

Isabelle smiled as Pali patched her up. “Thank you Pali” she smiles as she moves her fingers, checking to make sure everything was a go. She then would look over towards Arkane, quietly watching him enter his carriage, then back to Elianor. And then her eyes would slowly rest up Eclaire. The ice wall falling as she did. She didnt approach, she didnt move, she just watched her and the young girl.

(Aquilla- Ignis- Train Station, Sanctus Heights)

Nearly missing the drop off point, Aquilla steps off the train. “Oh dear... i fell asleep... where did everyone go?” She whined unsure what to do. The whole situation made her nervous, Aquilla had never been to Sanctus Heights before. The whole situation was a huge cluster of nerves for the girl. She couldnt think straight. “I...I um... ill look for them! The city isnt that big!” the knight continued to talk to herself as she began a good pace through the streets of the heights. To anybody who lived here, it was clear she was lost. After some time she even began to tear up. Unable to find anyone. Her own failures becoming self fulfilling prophecy due to the way she thought and functioned. “Where is everybody” she whimpered. Not even sure where she was anymore

- Richter - Clash in the Valley of magic -

"So it seems the villagers weren't too far off." Richter commented as he saw the spirits manifesting themselves, one of them approaching Aislinn only to be swatted back by wind magic, Tiru commented on what they were. "They appear as Wraiths, as if they truly are one and the same is yet to be seen." Richter answered as he stepped forward to face them.

One of the spirits began casting an incantation into the sky, definitely not a good sign, but Richter would stop it whatever the cost. First Richter snapped his fingers as the Itika rods that were gathering Itika began to change, as they were created by him, Richter could control them at will regardless if he was touching them or not, this also meant infusing them with his holy energy, by infusing the rods to holy energy, it also in turn turned the Itika crystals held by them into crystals of holy light, previously charged by Itika meaning they were much stronger than a normal crystal as Itika was raw mana.

There was only three things that touched true spirits, enchanted weapons, magic and holy magic. Regardless of spirit it would almost always be vulnerable to holy. All the rods began to emit a satisfying bright blue color, same as the one Richter's aura emanated, engulfing the area in holy light and aura. not only possibly being damaging to spirits, but would most likely slow their actions if they were vulnerable to it. However he didn't change the rods to emit holy light just to hurt the spirits, he did it to stop them from feeding on the gathere Itika, and the light provided a healing and empowering effect to his allies. Simply put, any and all allies in the area would find their powers enhanced by Richter's thaumaturgy's divine energy.

"We will not leave, spirits. Nor will we bow to the likes of you." Richter addressed the spirits, pure zeal and authority in his voice, as his aura peaked with thaumaturge magic. "Allow us to drift you into eternal rest." Richter spoke as he opened his hands as two spirit blades formed in his hands, as he did a fake dash towards the middle spirit casting the spell, in order to draw the attention of the other two. As the other two would rush him to defend their friend Richter would stop in his tracks and throw his swords at them, pointy end aimed at their chests, the blades would deal spiritual damage as well as physical if they landed, but was mostly as a distraction. Because by the time they blocked the thrown swords Richter would have already vanished with his own energy, and reappearing behind the spirit that casted the spell. THis time appearing with a large spirit spear, in a throwing stance as he would throw it directly at the spirit. The spear would explode in damaging spirit energy.

Arno waited for his partners and their guest friend to give their ideas and opinions on what to do with Kiev. Rifle still in hand as he kept himself mostly stable and on his feet after Saffron's display of uncontrolled metal bending.

"Wait." Arno told them, his voice blank, but the point would still get across. Arno would step towards Kiev, and give his head a good smack from the butt of his rifle to knock the man unconciouss. "I say we bring him in. Besides, not only do we still have time for whatever the mages seems to be gathering to do...but clearly the bartender and his friends were killed by the man himself, we simply defended ourselves as he attacked us". Arno tell them, pinning the blame on Kiev about what happened would be the best way for them to get out clean. "But the choice is up to the majority vote, im just giving my view." Arno explained to them. Respecting their choices if they wished to leave him there.

"How much was his bounty anyway. Metal girl?" Arno would ask Saffron with a serious tone.

Churros and handkerchiefs in hand Henry got to both eating his churros and also cleaning himself with the napkins. Eventualy getting rid of almost all of the dipping, thankfuly the dipping didn't stain his clothes, but high probability of him smelling like Churros dipping for the rest of the day.

He enjoyed the chocolate churros immensely, Vanilla and Chocolate were his favorite candy flavors, he would relish his churros as the others chatted, but he would turn to them as they spoke of the automatons, shooting Arun a smirk as he saw his friend being whacked in the face by an excited Elia. "That's karma" Henry commented, a smug smile on his face as he would turn to Elia. "Won't you get in trouble with your boss if you take us there, though?" He asked her, not wanting to get the girl into trouble.

- Jari Coriander, Somnum Court, after the balaena fight -

The makeshift fox boy breathed hard and heavy by the end, looking down at the creature below him and the knife he placed within it. Pulling it out, he felt his stomach lurch, and not just because he was feeling very unwell now from the poison of the ink. This was his first fight, and the first time he killed something larger than a spider or centipede, using his magic or otherwise. He tried his best to swallow his previous meal, and he did, the taste of bile lingering afterwards.

Still, he felt rather proud of himself, especially after his idol Nero's words of praise. His back straightened. He managed to help out his comrades in the court, and he proved to himself and maybe others that he could hold his own. He only wished that it did not involve killing. The feeling of taking something's life did not come easily to him.

He glanced around for those in need of assistance, his eyes resting on Kagura first. The dancer seemed none the worse for wear, previously encapsulated in the same ice fortress that he was in. Next was Luka, who had visible slash marks on her body and scared the daylights out of Jari, though he did not think that he saw blood seep out of the wounds. What manner of backlash was this? Was it magic, or was it caused by these creatures? Because he did not see what happened earlier, he did not know.

"Hey, Luka, you need a hand?" he voiced, though his words died within his throat as she drifted down the stairwell to the lower decks.

He moaned with unease and, not wishing to bother her, moved on to Mako, whose injuries were less severe. He noticed that the ink started out on her back, and he instantly regretted his decision to kill the beast that was going to attack her. He must have caused her pain and had to make it right.

"Mako? Sorry about earlier. Are you all right? I wanna help," he uttered to her somberly, quite worried for the girl.

- Daruke Sandstorm Mortem, Ignis Court, with the churro brigade -

The Maester of Ignis smiled happily at the gathering of friends old and new, Elia seeming like a nice lady and providing joy to everyone involved. Daruk wanted to rib-poke Henry more than he did already about his (in his eyes) new lady-friend, but the conversation moved on, and so did he.

"The automaton, eh? Nice! I admit, I want to see what the rich spend their time tinkering on. If you can act as our tour guide, Elia, I'll pay you for your time and for the lost business for closing your stand. They're here on business with me, so I might as well break the bank. Ha ha!" he boisterously laughed.

- Pali Noirtier, Umbra Court, with Lady Everyth who crashed his carriage coach -

Approached by Arkane, Pali glanced over to the young wind-playing necromancer with the semblance of a scoff. He knew all about vengeance, but it was not his judgement call.

"Take it up with Gerik. This man is under protection . . . (for now)." The last few words were mouthed to Arkane, but not spoken so as to spook the man he was leading.

After Pali deposited what possibly would be the last living man fielded here, he travelled back to his carriage, feeling the aftereffects of using so much mana at once. Pain seemed to lunge within his skull and rattle his brain pan, especially in the neck where the brainstem and medulla oblongata resided. The pain afterward travelled to his lungs and throughout the body as the blood vessels momentarily expanded and shrank. He slowed his breathing, settled himself, and all the issues went away as he tackled each and every one of them, one after the other. Magic such as his did not come without great cost and risk.

Tugging the door of his carriage revealed that he was not alone. Granted, he was not alone previously due to the man who pointed a gun at his head, dutifully watching with an undead glint in his eyes, but Everyth Castanova was inside as well, taking his spot. Frowning, he sat next to his fresh-kill-turned-friend and voiced, "Pardon, but that's my seat. How may I help you, Miss Castanova?"

Kagura Sumeragi - Somnum - The Dauntless

Kagura nodded. Setting stance, the Dancer began the Healer's Waltz, water flowing over Jari to heal him. Kaga would nod at Nero's orders, focusing on spreading the Healer's Waltz to everyone else.

Zion - Vificia - The Train

Zion was quiet. Unhappy with this madness, she stayed seated and remained mostly quiet, murmuring in response to anything Jynn said, before finally getting up. She had no baggage - she had her Gates. Waving him off, she'd angrily stay close to Jynn. Accusing her of Itika smuggling, preposterous. She did not handle Itika. She did not throw it. That bastard did, and she'd tear him apart if he tried to lie again.

Eclaire de Wynter - Umbra - Battle at the Big Bridge

Eclaire oofed as the girl hugged her. Hugging her back, her eyes shot up to the bandit lunging at her. Then Eleanor....the girl tore the bandit apart, then went after more. Eyes wide, Eclaire hugged Fyenne and suddenly took flight, chasing Eleanor.
"Elle!" She cried out. "ELLE. I'M OK." She shouted. "I'm ok! I'm safe! I'm safe!" she shouted. "I'M SAFE!" she kept hold of Fyenne. "Hang on kid, alright?" She said, keeping a bit of distance but shouting at Eleanor, trying to calm her down.

- Eleanor Le Doux, Fierce Shadow - Bridge Battle: Aftermath -

The words of the Umbra Maester were just barely heard by Eleanor, who still could only see red and only heard his voice in muted tones amongst the white noise plaguing her ears. Her stance was feral at this stage, this power being still raw and new to Eleanor, and she didn't calm down, still growling and scanning for further bandits to butcher for what they've done, clutching onto her still held right-hand sword with seething rage.

However, something finally broke through her stupor...a voice that could be heard strangely clearly, up above...it was Eclaire, holding the rescued slave girl tightly, safely...she was safe. Eclaire implored Eleanor to see this and while initially her head snapped to glare at Eclaire, her mind immediately began to calm and her glowing eyes flickered as her power began to retreat back into Eleanor.

"You're...you're sa...safe..." She uttered, before her eyes stopped glowing entirely as the unbearable rage subsided, leading to Eleanor falling to her knees in exhaustion, taking her helmet off and panting heavily.

"I didn't want you to see that, Eclaire...it's, not my proudest quality...I'm so sorry." Eleanor spoke with deep regret and shame, barely looking at Eclaire at this point, though it was not just her she feels like she shames, but it was the rest of Umbra and her own honor that Eleanor felt she had forsaken.

- Gabriel Woods, The Soaring Raven - Tavern Ruins -

The Raven shook his head, lowering his gun and listening to what was said, though Kiev being knocked unconscious was always a pleasant sight.

"If we leave him here, he will slip away again, he always does. It's clear from all of this fire that the fire mage in question is the only one responsible for this disaster and just as my friend here says, we defended ourselves. Once we're clear, we claim the bounty on this waste of space and move along finally, to our next job." Gabriel explained his side clearly and firmly, paying a few dismissive gazes toward Kiev, but then he eyes Saff with suspicion.

"You had better not leave anything out, it wouldn't be in your best interests." He calmly threatened Saff, holstering his gun and preparing to lift the unconscious Kiev. "We takin' him then? If so, give me a hand, please." Gabe added, ready and waiting to hoist the dead weight.

- Elliot Luxmore, Merciless Protector - Valley of Magic, Spirit Battle -

Malicious, dark spirits emerged upon a sudden, seemingly out of nowhere and demanded that the Vivifica mages submit...what happened next was a no-brainer, considering their recent history. Richter in particular, made such deft moves it wouldn't be at all apparent he was sleep deprived.

Electing to support his comrades, Elliot concentrated his Light magic into his hands, focusing on the malignant spirits and raised his hands into the air to fire off a large beam of Light into the skies. Soon after this would follow several more, holy and searing beams falling from said skies onto whatever dark creatures were present for a few seconds, while Elliot summoned forth his usual greatshield and greatsword and prepared himself to fight the monsters and protect his allies.

{Valery - Vivifica Court: Valley of Magic}
Despite her misgivings, Valery continued to gather the Itika. At least Ricther seemed to be having some fun with what he could do with the stuff. Maybe after they dealt with Aislinn’s visions, the Itika could be safely harnessed for something to benefit everyone. If the other Courts would accept their help. Well, Ignis and Somnum could come around, but Umbra... well. They would not be missed.
Valery heard a cry from over head from her familiar. On alert, the Warden pulled her pole arm off her back. She looked around, till her eyes caught the lengthening shadows. Her eyes narrowed at the wraith. She growled as she spun her pole arm around, firing a focused beam of light at the closest Wraith. With Richter using his new toys, Valery moved closer to Aislinn, positioning herself between her Maestra and the spirits.

{Mako Koyl - Somnum Court; Aboard the Dauntless}
With the last of the sea monsters dead, Mako nearly collapsed on the deck. She spike of adrenaline was wearing off, and she was hurt and tired. Luckily, those with some talent for healing were going around. She closed her eyes, but opened them again when Jari spoke to her.
“Don’t sweat it.” She said, trying to brush it off. “It was a good shot.”

{Gerik Lockford - Umbra Court: Big Bridge}
Gerik seemed to relax a little as Eleanor responded to Eclaire. Interesting that the young de Wynter could form such a bond so quickly. Useful in keeping Eleanor’s rage in check, but potentially troublesome in the future. If she chose to use her power and connections against the court...
“But she’s still Vivifica to the core.” He thought, a slight smile on his lips. “Easily manipulated when you actually care too much about people.”
“Well, now.” Gerik said aloud. “Now that we’ve all stretched our legs, shall we continue?”
Returning to his carriage, the Umbral Maester beckoned for the spared bandit and Micah to join him.

The crew had huddled belowdecks during the commotion, save for the captain who remained at the helm. Thankfully the wheel was secured behind glass and a door, which the Balaenas did not get close enough to with the onslaught from the Somnum mages. The captain came rushing to the maestra as she began her search, bowing to the woman as he removed his captain's cap.

"Maestra, I didn't anticipate a movement from the Balaenas during such a brief voyage, and so close to the shore at that!" the captain exclaimed. "I truly don't know what might have attracted them about this particular vessel, but without you and your mages we would have surely perished. You have my deepest gratitude, as well as that from the rest of the crew."

The captain then straightened, pointing over the maestra's shoulder. The docks of Sanctus Heights loomed into view, not more than fifteen minutes away. The man then smiled at Professor Nero, his white mustache bobbing slightly. "In fact, we are almost there now." The captain called out toward the rest of the crew, instructing them to make proper preparations for a smooth disembarking.

Meanwhile Mellark watched, mesmerized, as Kagura performed her water waltz to heal all. He would have protested aid, as he received naught but a gash to his upper arm, though it seemed that she exerted little effort in expanding her healing over those on the deck. "Thank you, Kagura," he said, he then stretched, leaning over the ship's hull as he watched the shoreline grow larger as they approached.

--------

The crew made the necessary preparations, saluting the mages as they disembarked. From there the captain poured a pouch of coins into Professor Nero's hand. "Again, you have our sincerest gratitude, mages of the Somnum Court. Please take this as a token of our appreciation." He then nodded out toward a dirt path. It was well-maintained, and one could tell that it led to farmlands. "If you follow this road a short distance you will come upon a ranch. Eirika and her hand would be glad to help you reach Sanctus Heights, most certainly."

Fyenne was grateful when Eclaire returned the embrace. It was likely apparent that the girl had lacked in hugs or any kind of nurture from a caring soul in a very long time. The young mage's gaze fell upon Isabelle briefly, moments before Eclaire warned her to hold on. The girl obliged, uncertain of what Eclaire meant to do until the two of the sprung into the air. She tucked her face deftly against the Umbra mage's chest, a bit concerned about being raised at such a height, and insecurely at that.

Meanwhile, the mages returned to what remained of their carriages, while others remained scorched and smoking. Bodies littered the bridge, which was now painted red with both the blood of the bandits in addition to Isabelle's blood rain. Both Micah and the bandit meekly joined Gerik in his carriage, the boy resuming a window seat while the bandit sat across from Gerik. He was a middle-aged man, with scars aplenty all along his exposed shoulders and left cheek. His green eyes were sharp and calculating, as he measured Gerik decisively.

"Thank you for sparing me," he said, his wits surprisingly intact considering he was the last survivor after watching his fellow comrades be ripped asunder. "To what do I have the pleasure of calling you? Would you be the Umbra Court's Maester?"

Some of the carriages had begun rolling to their destination, while others were still being loaded. Everyth Castanova sat smirking as Pali entered, her finger poking into the corner of her cheek while she mused over his words.

"Oh, sorry, darling, but I did not want to sit next to your dead friend over there. He is rather unsightly and unpleasant on the nose, don't you know? I would much rather sit over here." She remained on the bench, though did sit upright to allow Pali a place to sit across from her, if he wished it. A smile washed over her face as she eyed him. "I was thinking that you may indulge me in conversation. I tried to sit with that boy Arkane for the ride up till now, but you know how children can be. I thought you would make much better company. Besides"–she leaned forward, her voice lowering to a mischievous whisper–"I have a question for you."

Arno succeeded in knocking the lethal fire mage unconscious. With a grunt his head bobbed to the side, and with luck he would remain this way for the duration of their trip to the sheriff's office. Tibarn eyed Saff quizzically, though immediately rose to her defense when Gabriel spoke gruffly toward her.

"I'm sure she has her reasons for putting this off," he said, rushing to aid Gabriel hoist Kiev off the ground by sliding his arm around Kiev's other side. "I mean, we are in a burning tavern with a wanted criminal!" As he would walk past Saff he offered her a wink, hoping that either Saff or Arno would get what remained of the door so that Gabriel and Tibarn would have clear entrance to the outdoors.

-----------

The rogues likely had a clear mental map of Vita City at this point, and if they traveled around the main road they would arrive at the sheriff's station in under fifteen minutes. Kiev would begin to stir after five or so minutes, but it wasn't anything that they couldn't handle. When they would arrive they would be given quizzical glances by the two security guards chatting it up outside, and an even greater reaction from the secretary sitting at the front desk.

"What's this?!" the woman exclaimed, long red braid falling over her shoulder as she rose from her desk. She called a few security guards over, while awaiting for an explanation from the four.

The two Vivifica mages would find themselves out in the bright, cheery train platform of Sanctus Heights, where life seemed to be in the highest of spirits as people bustled around greeting their friends and loved ones. The security guards released Jynn and Zion's luggage, before opening it and beginning to sort through it, without permission. The conductor was seen alongside the engineer of the train, the latter of which seemed to be more interested in greeting others than acknowledging the Vivifica mages. Once Jynn and Zion would find that he shot them an apologetic glance, before busying himself with something else.

The thief sat by a lamppost, handcuffs now circling his wrists. He looked particularly unhappy about being there, but went on high alert when he saw the two mages.

"An investigation is being made on this ordeal," the conductor began, striding up to Jynn with his hands clasped behind his back. "Until we have come to a conclusion, we cannot risk endangerment to the High Priestess. I hope that you understand our need for these procedures and that you will comply."

Handcuffs would then be brought forth to attach upon Zion and Jynn, unless they protested. "You will be held in the lower quarters of the Grand Cathedral, along with Remi here"–he gestured toward the thief, whose head jerked up at his name–"until we have managed to further investigate and come to a conclusion."

"Excuse me, sir," the thief spoke up, taking a step toward the conductor while in response one of the security guards fingered his rifle, perhaps to fondly. "I couldn't help but overhear, and I was wondering: did you say that we will be detained together?" He shot a nervous glance at the two mages, swallowing hard before adding. "Do you suppose it is really wise that we be held in the same quarters?"

"You were held on the same train," the conductor responded nonchalantly, giving Remi a critical glare. "Unless, of course, there is something that you aren't sharing that makes you feel unsafe to be detained with the two Vivifica mages."

"No, sir, it's just that they're mages from Vivifica, and after what they did you never know what they could do."

"I trust that you will be just fine," the conductor said dismissively. "Now then, these two gentleman will escort you. While I'm sorry that you will not be yet able to take in all that Sanctus Heights has to offer, I wish you three a warm welcome and thank you for traveling with us."

Shiroo snickered as Elia rammed her elbow into Arun, though feared that he would probably be next thus he steered clear of the girl. While kind, Elia was very energetic, and she seemed particularly accident prone if gauging from the ten minutes he'd known her.

"Oh, I was just getting off from work," Elia explained to the mages. "I would be happy to walk you over to central square! Come on!" She enthusiastically grabbed Henry's hands and led him onward. For reasons she couldn't explain, she felt more at ease with this particular fire mage over the others. Perhaps it was his taking the churro mess so well, or perhaps it was something more.

As they strode along the streets, Elia explained some of the history of a few monuments, including a building that had served as the office headquarters for the past three-hundred years, and a statue of the first High Priestess, dating about one-thousand years prior.

"The initial statue did not survive," Elia explained to them, "and so this is a remake finished about a hundred or so years ago. I've seen portraits of the first High Priestess, and I must say that the resemblance is uncanny!"

"I find it so odd," Shiroo said, frowning sightly at the statue, "that our records of society before 100 DE are so vague. It is as if history were deliberately washed away, what with all of our records so shabby. I mean, sure, we know the first High Priestess was established a thousand years ago, but what before then? What system did we have? Was Ignis even a thing back then?"

While the mages would either ponder or respond to these questions, the central square began to loom into view, and what a marvel it was. The ground was paved with red bricks, at the center was a magnificent water fountain made from white gold. Within the fountain lied the Four Courts insignia that water spout forth from, while children walked along the rim of the fountain precariously in an attempt not to fall in. To the left, however, rested the sight that Vincent–among others–could not wait to see.

Standing a towering thirty-feet stood an automaton. Its body stretched lengthwise into a dragon, its wings craning out into the sky. It was quite the massive and impressive masterpiece, which Shiroo craned his neck up to admire.

"And here we are!" Elia announced, releasing Henry's hand to stand in front of the automaton and gesture toward it with both arms outstretched. "It's really something, isn't it? Have to really see it to believe it?"

The perimeter of the mage's harvesting ground was engulfed in holy light, causing the sprits to diverge. Spirit #1 and #2 went their separate ways, to the left and right, clinging to the shadows to abstain from basking in the light. Their movements were swift, however more sluggish than they would normally be had they been moving without the affects of the divine light.

Spirit #2 found Valery and Aislinn, the former extending a beam of light toward the spirit. It struck its left shoulder as it let out a shrill shriek. It then moved toward Valery, in an attempt to rake her with its sharp claws, and then proceed to lift her if successful.

"Hold on!" Aislinn cried out, uttering an incarnation and readying a spell to project at Spirit #2, unless Valery was able to react quicker.

Spirit #1 fell for Richter's bluff, moving to guard its friend. It moved as though to claw Richter, though instead received a blazing holy sword to the chest. It screeched, shrinking away from Richter and emitting a smoke fog from its mouth. It was green in hue, and if inhaled it would inflict poison, confusion, and temporary blindness.

Spirit #3, the woman spirit, let loose her spell, the wind beginning to pick up around them. Objects began to loosen around them, clumps of stone to sharp fragments from the valley. It swerved around the mages, the wind growing in intensity as it threatened to blow them away. At last the objects froze, centering upon Richter, Elliot, and Tiru before being let loose to fire upon them.

This is when the holy beams of light from Elliot came crashing down, thankfully avoiding their allied mages and instead fixating on the spirits. One struck alongside Spirit #3, its holy light searing the spirit as she howled. Her arm visibly had a gaping hole where her right bicep should've been, yet it didn't halt her relentless advance. She moved to grasp Elliot around by the throat, and if successful she would lift him up about a foot from the ground. The spirit would proceed to make an awful sucking noise, as it attempted to leech the very life force from the Vivifica mage.

- Arkane from Umbra Court - The Big Bridge -
Arkane sat in his own carriage. The revived dog would wag his tail as he sat down next to his owner, enjoying the cool of the shade as the sun would speed up the scent of decomposition on anything that was left behind. The ground beneath would be absorbing the blood, leaving an emotional mark that would merely be another layer to its history. Arkane would pick up the satchel, pouring some of the blood stained dirt and sand into it as he would save it for further use. The memories of the past could be powerful. The negative emotions left behind were always a source of power that could be tapped into when it came to necromancy. Whether it be reaching out for the souls or reviving the dead, it was something that he needed to take account in. "We might be able to speak to the dead if we need to." He would look down at his dog, petting it softly before getting the sand away. His attention returned to his cards. They had been turned blank because of the usage, so now it was a good time as ever to enforce them with magic while they made their way back to Sanctus Heights. He took out a few ingredients, mixing them together as he muttered incantations under his breath. He would then dip a brush into the mixture before carefully painting on the cards. He would paint different runes on each one, allowing magic to be absorbed from the mixture and his incantations be taken to the runes and into the cards. Each rune and marking would be of every specific curse. Now curse was a relative word for it. If one knew how to use it well, it would take shape in more than just cursing someone or something, just as he had demonstrated today. He carefully painted on the runes, setting them aside as they dried up at the moment they were done. "What should we do with our new friends, little one?" He asked, reaching over and rubbing his head against the dog's head. "A pity that we did not get a mage body, but we received so many normal ones in return. We can make something special with enough of them." He smiled softly. "Not to mention their souls. I have a few of them in mind." Once he finished he would get his ingredients away, along with the cards and the remaining mixture in a glass. He reached for his satchel and pulled out what seemed to be a small notebook with a pencil sticking out. He unhooked the leather from it and opened it, flipping through pages of sketches here and there. He smiled a bit when he saw the sketch he had done of his parents. It was the only thing he had of them from memory. He had done it very long ago, however, and such the drawing was childish. But it was there. He flipped through a few more pages, passing by sketches of creatures, people, and inanimate objects that would be found in the barren lands of the Umbra territory, until he reached a blank one, following the next one. He would cross his legs, settling the journal down as he began to sketch. "I was thinking of something similar to what they were before. They fought with arrows and blades. Maybe something like that?" He asked, looking back at the dog, who merely would wag his tail, as if he was listening. Arkane move some hair behind his ear and would sketch the bowman onto the face of the creature before working on the rest of the body. "Let us sow the bodies together. Like this." He suggested, drawing two torsos together, back to back as they would become one. "That way they can defend each other. One fighting on the front, and the other on the back." Akrane whispered to himself, the sound of the charcoal against parchment being the only other sound within. "We will conjoin the souls too." He paused, looking over to his dog. "What do you think?" The dog would merely lick his hand. Arkane smiled and poked his bone. "I will let you chew on the leg bones." He teased, rubbing his head. "...you are less picky than the living."

- Arun & Vincent from Ignis Court - Sanctus Heights -
Arun and Vincent would follow, both listening intently on the history that they were given. Though both were giving Elia a respectful distance as to not get hit by her again. The entire place screamed of hundreds of years of history. Vincent would look around when he glanced the statue of the High Priestess. "It is rather odd, is it not?" Vincent asked, looking up. "To serve as a mediator in between the four courts, and to live for so long, but have little to no history to rely on." He explained, narrowing his eyes. "What secrets does she have to keep?" Arun would think for a moment, closing his eyes before opening his eyes and glancing over at Vincent. "What if it is not the same person? What if the High priestess has actually been multiple high priestesses but they never change the title and it is never announced when they change to another one?" He asked, his voice soft. Vincent would cross his arms. "You truly are the master of conspiracy theories." He added. Soon enough, however, they would glance at the one thing they searched for; the automaton. Vincent's eyes widened as he practically leaped away from the group, running over to take a closer look. Though with such a height and size, one could admire it from any and every angle. "It is bigger than I thought!" He screamed, watching it like a child. There would be people walking around when suddenly there would be a ring of a tune coming from the inside of the dragon. Right on cue, as it was timed; the automaton would begin to move. The wings would move, extending and retracting, one of the legs moving up as it showed off its claws. The head and neck would move from side to side, looking around before arching its head up and opening its mouth. There would be a roar of metal as fire would shoot from the mouth and into the air for a few moments before the dragon would move around again, and then return to its original position with small clicks from the machinery. Arun's jaw dropped a bit, staring at it with wide eyes. "Amazing." He whispered. Vincent would smile and throw his arms up. "That is incredible! Have you any idea how many parts this thing must have?!" He would run ahead from the group, running right up to the leg. He would place his hand against its side, feeling the metal scales having been carefully carved and screwed on one by one in order to give it the most realistic feeling. The glass eyes were thick, and yet the gleam of red from the fire whenever it went off made it look alive. Vincent would turn to the group, his eyes gleaming. "Hey guys! Do you think that if I submit a grant request the Maesters will allow me to build one of these back at home? I can make it have TWO dragons!" He suggested, smiling happily before looking back at the dragon. He would rub his hands against the metal, feeling every detail as he admired it ever so. He would feel his excitement be almost like a spark. However, as he would admire it, a few moments later Vincent would feel a sudden sharp pain across his body, almost as if he had been pricked by a needle. He would physically wince, looking around before figuring that it could be static. He took out his notebook and began to sketch the details from up close.

- Daruk, Ignis Court, within Sanctus Heights with the others -

The Maester of the Ignis Court looked about the central city with wide eyes, feeling a sensation of hyper-alertness from the ale he quaffed which, for him, typically ends in sluggishness. He did not catch the conversation about history, however. The statue of the High Priestess was as magnificent as the day he first witnessed it -- aged a little, but that was to be expected. The first High Priestess looked marvelous, but he wondered how much of this was the artist's perspective and removing of blemishes. The most brilliant artist can turn an old hag into a young eyecatcher with just a chisel and a hammer.

Next, Daruk looked up at the giant automaton with a great amount of curiosity within his twinkling eyes. There was an ornate beauty to the complexity within this strange machine. Its lifelike movements, its beautiful semblance of what everybody considered the real deal, and more besides -- it all culminated into one of the greatest works of art that he had ever observed, rivalling that of his favourite painting.

Vincent seemed especially intrigued, the youth observing the machination up close in a studious effort. He seemed to back off from something sharp, maybe one of the scales on its magnificent form, to which Daruk bellowed a laugh and voiced very loudly "Careful! Metal can be pokey! But yes, it is a marvel of creation! The maker of it must be proud!"

- Jari Coriander, Somnum Court, pulling into port on board the Dauntless -

The spry, "foxy" youth felt the cool of Kagura's water magic salve the pain and duress that his body had underwent even more, removing the ailment of poison with which he had been afflicted. Water magic truly was something, especially when Kagura performed it.

There was also Mako who voiced a compliment to him, making Jari's cheeks turn a light shade of red and having him scratch his ear. He adored compliments, especially those coming from beautiful women.

"Thank you, though I feel I did more harm than good. Next time I'll do one better than now!"

He glanced over the bow of the ship, catching the glints of buildings and a port. A happy smile plopped onto his face. As much as he enjoyed being on a boat, and all without the seasickness everybody feared so much among his peers, he would be glad to rinse off the thoughts of these shudder-worthy monsters.

"Say, wanna watch the ship pull in while we wait, Mako? Maybe the air will dry you off. How did you get soaked, anyways?"

-- -- --

Later he would be found still smiling on solid land, planted next to Lady Nero with an earnestness to move to the next location. A ranch sounded nice, especially if it potentially had horses! He long had a love for the beasts, but rarely had a chance to see them in the court beyond illustrations. He hoped to paint a picture of a real horse someday. Maybe crafting a figurine would help him with shapes and shading.

- Pali Noirtier, Umbra Court, with Everyth Castanova -

"He is unsightly because he is a fresh kill. A little embalming, some magic, some of my newest ointment, and presto. He'll be good to go, scent-free," voiced Pali, halfway a murmur and halfway a groan.

On that topic, he took out his ointment, more a heavily green-smelling perfume than anything else, and squirted it on his companion who did not seem to mind either way. He also squirted some at Everyth's feet, just because. He next mulled over her other conversational piece regarding conversation in general, and raised an eyebrow at her mysteriosity.

"I'm flattered that I'm the second thought of, but I may have an answer for you." He pocketed the perfume and folded his hands beneath his chin as he leaned forward. "What is the nature of your question, Miss Everyth?"

Saffron- Vita City

“Fine fine full story” she glared at Gabriel. As she held open the door for the two carrying Kiev. “So.... where to start.... I met Kiev about two years back. When i was hunting him down.... i encountered him in a bar similar to the one we were just in... but he wasnt a complete psycho yet. He was just... aggressive. Id say a thug, but also a thief...at least that what his bounty was originally for. To my surprise he was very charming annnddd well.... i wasnt at my best. Sooo we hit it off for about a year then things got bad. he just sorta lost it one day and ended up killing 20 or so people... soooo i left..”

Issabelle- Umbra

Issabelle cocked her head, seemingly confused by the half vivican girl. The things she did during the fight just didnt make sense to her. It was curious. Why go out of the way to save someone when they could very easily have killed you in return. Why show weakness, vulnerability, why? She would have continued to stare however it was time to get moving again so she returned to her carriage.

Luka- Somnum

Luka slept for most of the boat ride after the attack. Her external wounds were not sever but the internal was quite bad. It would take some time to heal her depended on the healers proficiency of course. She looked fairly tired and a bit pale.

Aquilla-Ignis-Lost in Sanctus Heights
Aquilla continued to wander around sanctus like a lost puppy for some time, this is until she eventually stumbled upon the other Ignis mages, they appeared to be looking at an automaton of sorts. “T-There you are!” Aquilla exclaimed as she ran over to them, she looked dreadful despite the short amount of time she was actually lost.

- Thea Nero - Court of Somnum: Arriving on shore -

Nero was about to go below decks in order to find the crew but she noticed that the Captain had remained at the helm. Such a brave soul the Captain had. He was surprised that the Balaenas had attacked their ship, completely ignorant as to what could have caused such a reaction from the creatures, and at such proximity to the shore too. He was very grateful that the mages were there to protect the crew of the Dauntless.

"Think nothing of it, Captain. It is, in part, my fault for asking such a voyage on such short notice," Nero said as she gave a small smile to the Captain, "As to why the creatures attacked us, well, that's anyone's guess. I just hope this event is not an omen of what is to come. In any case, I will inform my mages that we will be arriving in a few minutes."

The Maestra walked back to the group of mages, watching as Kagura performed a dance and healed the rest of the group. She also noticed that Luka was gone, probably below deck.

"Thank you for your assistance, Kagura," She said as she looked at the rest of the mages, "that goes to each and every one of you too. Thanks to your efforts and successful extermination of the balaena threat the crew of the Dauntless is safe and sound."

It took a few more minutes for the ship to finally reach the shore, the crew were saluting the mages as they disembarked, obviously grateful for protecting them and the ship from the dangers of the sea. What was really surprising was that the Captain gave Nero a pouch filled with coins. She was about to object, not deeming such a reward necessary, but the Captain said it was a token of their appreciation and she didn't wanted to be rude to any of them.

"You have my thanks and those of my court, Captain. You have helped us reach our destination sooner than expected," Nero said as she offered the Captain a nod, "and thanks again for telling us about Eirika's ranch. I am sure we can take care of things from here. May you find good fortune on your path, Captain. I bid you and your crew farewell."

While on the road to the ranch the Maestra explained what the Captain had told her about following the path until they reached the ranch from which they would be able to hire carriages, and the fact that the captain of the crew had given her a reward. She split the contents of the pouch evenly among the mages, not taking any coin for herself. She didn't needed more money for this journey, but she hoped that the rest would use the money to buy anything they liked while in Sanctus Heights. Nero also took notice of the pale complexion of Luka has she walked over to her.

"Is everything alright, Miss Rabbi? You do not look good. I noticed that you were missing while Kagura performed some healing magic," She said as she looked to the young woman, "Mayhaps, once we secure some means of transport, you could join me so I can perform some healing on you before we reach Sanctus Heights."

- Arno - Disgruntled bounty hunter - Vita City Taver -

Arno didn't waste any time with the door, now that Tibarn and Gabriel were carrying Kiev, opening the door and holding it for them to pass through. And on their way to the sheriff's office and taking the main road, around fifteen minutes of walk or so. Saffron began to speak how she knew of the man.
"Must've been a fun year." Arno commented dryly at Saffron's story. "At least now I know you didn't spare him for the money." Arno sarcasticaly remarked as they soon arrived at the Sheriff's office. The woman with red hair looking at them and asking them what it was about.

"Cashing a bounty." Arno remarked, direct and neutral, but serious. "The lady here can explain more of it." Arno gestured to Saff, never breaking eye contact with the woman.

- Ricther Vanis - Thaumaturge on the rise - Valley of Magic -

Seeing as his holy magic rods served their purpose in area denial, the spirits began their move, spirit#1 had fallen for his feint and as a result was wounded and exhaled a poisonous smoke, which Richter promptly avoided entering or inhaling, as he had to take down spirit #3 as she seemed like the strongest of them and the other two couldn't act much considering the holy magic covering the area.

The third spirit acted, making several objects freeze in place and fly at them at a moment's notice, Richter instinctively created a barrier to block the objects, had Elliot's attack not landed and allowed him to dodge out of the way of the attacks. Dashing out of the way and examining her next action, in which the third spirit would attempt to grab Elliot's throat.

All the Spirit #3 would have would be Richter dashing and swinging a summoned sword at her arm, possibly cutting it off if that was possible, aiming to wound her, "Now Elliot!" Richter told his fellow mage, as Richter would attempt to stab her in the chest with his sword, before igniting it in a holy blast if it landed, which would not damage him or his allies.

- Henry - Explosion Mage - Sanctus Heights - Automaton viewing -

"Well, let's go- hey!" Henry exclaimed as Elia grabbed his hand and began dragging him, and the others, towards the square in which the Automatons were being shown. What was up with this girl? why did she find him familiar? and why did she act this way with him? He didn't quite know much about signals, might be that she liked him. Or she was a weird energetic girls, or both! Regardless, when they arrived everyone began to watch and examine the automatons, Henry too was impressed at the design and the dragon-like appearance of the automaton. Vincent commented about building one back at the court's base. Henry laughed as he shook his head. "I doubt it'd be allowed, but hey, its worth a try." Henry encouraged Vincent to do so, so long as Ignis's budget allowed anyway.

It was there he'd notice someone else running towards them, and stumbling onto them too. "Oh hey Aquilla, I was wondering where you might've been." Henry addressed the new Ignis mage who had found them, she looked rather tired, maybe from running or something. "Are you alright?." He asked her, with a caring tone in his voice.

He knew Aquilla, she was somewhat of a well known Mage in Ignis, mostly because very few mages used Ice in ignis, much less Ice and fire!.

The spell that Aislinn unleashed allowed a torrent of boulders to crash upon Spirit #2, ranging from the size of a softball to about four-feet in diameter. This lasted for only about three seconds, but it was enough for the Spirit to be caught off-guard. It dropped Vallery, if it had ever managed to grab her, and swerved away, missing the boulders but being made vulnerable for future attacks.

Spirit #3 still proceeded to try sucking Elliot's own spirit from his body, until the attack from Richter landed. Its arm dissolved from its body in a wisp of black smoke, a screech echoing from its very core. It became transparent, disappearing from view, Richter's sword cleaving through what seemed the air. Spirit #3 would appear within the shadows, out of the holy light, preparing its next assault. A barrage of dark comets would fall upon Richter and Elliot, ranging from people-sized to fist-sized rocks. The difference between these comets and the common rock, however, was the darkness embedded within them. It would potentially cast darkness upon them, hindering their sight for a short duration if it hit, while the shower of comets itself wouldn't particularly be the most harmful of assaults.

Spirit #1 was now charging for Richter, apparently angered that its previous attack failed to do the mage harm. It forged a scythe from the shadows, raising it and preparing a diagonal swing toward Richter. This would feel as though sliced by a blade, though in actuality it would be darkness damage that would inflict the skin, causing it to grow dark and cause sensation to be lost in the area in time.

Shiroo waved casually to Aquilla as the young mage approached them. He didn't know her as well as some of the others that had been in the Ignis Court longer, but he felt that she was nice enough. Almost immediately after doing so he offered Lev a smile. Apparently he didn't share the same fondness for all women as he did Lev.

As Vincent ran his hands over the scales, he would potentially find–or not find–a seal sketched in a faint pen. It was reduced to merely scratch marks upon the surface, but it still existed. Its eyes flashed another time, only this time they were of an unearthly green. It stretched its neck, light blinking off and on as though it were blinking with its very eyelids. It surveyed the mages, tilting its head, before it stretched its mouth open wide and fire poured forth from its mouth. It was in an uncontrolled fashion, however, and not like the calm delightful presentation had depicted. Passersby screamed as a jet of flames narrowly missed them, setting a set of well-manicured bushes on fire in addition to a wooden bench. Its neck stretched farther upward, this time shooting fire in an arc. Rooftops caught on fire as a result, several windows shattering from the heat that was set to them.

United screams rang through the square, and everyone was immediately set in a frenzy. People darted left and right, and the children by the fountain began to cry. They embraced one another, while one of the boys in their group was tugging at a girl's arm, urging them to leave.

"This is bad!" Elia cried out, just as the dragon began to move once more, this time spitting flames toward Arun and Shiroo. The latter, unexacting the assault, took a burn to the shoulder, which he put out quickly but winced at the pain. The churro girl deftly swooped toward Shiroo and potentially Arun, if injured, and extended her palms. A green aura emit from them, and the party could watch as Shiroo's wound rapidly scabbed over, and barely left a mark. Her eyes darted over to the group fearfully, as though revealing a secret that she ought not.

"Don't tell anyone," she murmured urgently, eyes once more shifting to the dragon automaton, which now seemed to have a mind of its own, one bent on the destruction of Sanctus Heights.

Tibarn's expression was quite difficult to read, his lips a thin straight line as Saffron explained her connection to Kiev. "Hmm," was all that he said. "Hope he treated you nicely." He noticeably winced when Arno sarcastically commented that Saff wasn't desiring to cash him in for the money, though part of him wondered if this were true. He glared at Kiev that rode between himself and Gabriel. What on earth could the metal mage have seen in him?

Back in the sheriff's office, the two security guards that had been summoned took the fire mage from Gabe and Tibarn, one of which pulling his head up by the roots of his hair and taking a good look into his face.

"Ooh boy, this one," one of them commented, surprise and excitement in his tone simultaneously. "We've been trying to catch him for years. This one's mighty lethal, I'll tell you that."

"I'm surprised that he would dare venture into such a large city," the redheaded woman said, a slight frown furrowing her brow. Once the two security guards led Kiev away, she gestured to two chairs in front of her desk. Tibarn would remain standing behind one of them, to allow the others a chance to sit if they desired. He was too antsy himself, and if things went south–or if someone remembered the debts he owed–he wanted a way to split quickly.

"I don't know if you four quite realize what you have handed in to us," she spoke, hands folded on her desk. "But this man is terribly dangerous. You all could have lost your lives capturing him. I don't know how you did it, but thank you. Thank you so much."

She began unfurling a drawer from her desk, seemingly searching through files for something. Tibarn watched her concernedly, single brow raising. "We did what was right," he told her.

"Which was very good of you," she said. Her hand hesitated over a folder, before she lifted it and began scrolling. "Now then, what are your names? And would a check be a suitable form of payment?"

The carriages' wheels started rolling, and in time everyone successfully crossed the Big Bridge and moved on toward Sanctus Heights. It would still be hours before arrival, and a stop would be required to exchange horses out for refreshed ones (for those who had living creatures pulling their weight), allowing the mages plenty of time for conversation or reading, or whatever else suited their fancy.

The dark mage watched with intrigue as Pali prattled on about his undead, and how fond he was of his creations. Everyth wrinkled her nose at the perfume that the man used, shaking her head dismally as she straightened her back. "I will never understand Umbra's infatuation with dead things. What beauty is there in the undead when live things are so much more, ah, appealing?"

It seemed that Pali was taking her presence in a positive manner, which was a good sign. It seemed many feared approach the man, whether it be due to his grouchy tendencies, or his horde of undead servants. Either way, Everyth felt that things were going well, enough that she decided to brave patting the seat alongside her, as though gesturing that he sit.

"Well, now that you mention it," the woman started, "there are two things that I'd like to bring up. The first is all of the ineligible bachelors within Umbra. They are all either unintelligent, too consumed by their work, or seeking companions for all of the wrong reasons." She offered him a true smile. "I have a feeling that you would value a woman who would in return value you. I've met your daughter, Lev. What a sweetheart she is, and she could only be that way by having a parent to care and guide her on the right track. Clearly this was not her mother, as you nor her seem to have any woman in your lives.

"So"–Everyth extended a hand toward Pali–"what do you say? Interested?"

Few trees shaded the path that the Somnum mages tread upon, the brilliant sun beating overhead and baking their skin. Despite being spring, it was certainly hot around Sanctus Heights. Mellark removed his cloak, draping it over his arm instead as he walked briskly. He fell in line behind the maestra, though was surprised when she divvied out coins to everyone, also noticing that she kept none for herself.

"This is very generous," said Mellark. "But Professor Nero, should you not receive a reward yourself? You worked harder than perhaps any of us out there, and you have the entire court of Somnum to manage under your jurisdiction. If anything, you should be keeping this yourself." It felt very wrong that he be rewarded for his small amount of work when Nero wouldn't accept anything, but perhaps that was merely his pride speaking.

It wasn't long before a picket fence became visible, trailing the path and leading further up. Cattle and sheep were spotted grazing, and in a separate section of the fence were horses. A few were cantering beside each other, while another leaned over the fence and desired to greet the mages, taking a particular interest in Laguna. It tried to rip their draping garments, thinking it something to eat.

"Genesis!" A woman's voice rang across the field, and in moments the mages would find the owner of the voice making her way toward the horse interested in Laguna's garments. She was tall, perhaps middle-aged, with long turquoise-blue hair pinned back into a ponytail. She wore casual clothing, with dirt smeared all along the front of her trousers. Once she pulled the horse away from Laguna she turned to them.

"Pardon the horse," she said apologetically. "She really likes flowy materials."

- Thea Nero - Court of Somnum: Ranch east of Sanctus Heights -

It was nice to take a walk every now and then, even when the sun made the weather slightly hotter this particular day of Spring, but that was to be expected when getting closer to Sanctus Heights. Nero kept her eyes forwards yet she looked at her surroundings every now and then. Traveling was always something she liked to do, but ever since she became the Maestra of Somnum the chances of traveling were few and far between. Mellark looked as if he was worried that she hadn't take any money for herself, which was understandable.

"We all worked together to get rid of the balaena threat, Mister Crowe. Each and every single one of you helped to protect the ship, the crew, and even each other, and that's what really matters in my eyes. I suppose money is a good thing to have, BUT if all of you learned to cooperate with each other in order to complete your mission then that is enough reward to me," Nero said as she looked towards Mellark, "so do not worry for such things. Take your reward and, if something happens to catch your attention while we are in Sanctus Heights, then you can get it."

The Maestra's head faced forwards once more, enjoying the calm and quiet that the countryside provided. Some time later picket fences became visible, Nero being able to see cattle and sheep grazing. Some horses were there too, one of them looked as if it was interested on the mages, one of them in particular. The horse had taken a liking towards Laguna, or perhaps Laguna's garments, as it was trying to rip them away from Laguna. This action made the Maestra giggle just as the voice of a woman was heard. She was tall, maybe in her middle ages and with long turquoise-blue hair in a ponytail. This woman quickly pulled the horse, whose name was Genesis, away from Laguna.

"It is quite alright, madam. I am sure Laguna here doesn't mind. Oh, but where are my manners. My name is Thea Nero, Maestra of the Court of Somnum and this are mages of my court," Nero said to the woman as she turned around to look at her group, "Jari Coriander, Mellark Crowe, Kagura Sumeragi, Luka Rabbi, Mako Koyle and, as I said before, Laguna. I was instructed by the captain of the Dauntless to search for a ranch from which we could rent some carriages to take us to Sanctus Heights, this ranch is owned by a person named Eirika. I was wondering if you could help us find our way to Eirika's ranch, Miss...?

- Arun & Vincent - Ignis Court - Sanctum Heights: Dragon Fight

As Vincent enthusiastically sketched the details, he would notice the odd looking symbol scratched upon the surface. That was odd. He had not seen that before. He took a closer look, quickly sketching it down on the sketchbook. Yet soon enough the dragon moved. Odd. It just moved, was the schedule off? Then the sound of bolts snapping and people screaming caught his attention. He would look up, his eyes wide as he would watch the beast begin to wildly flail, shooting fire across the square. People ran for their lives as Vincent would look up with wide eyes. "Oh this is not good." Vincent got his sketchbook away as he looked at the dragon. Those eyes- "Magic?" As the dragon moved he was quick to move, dodging as he stopped from getting stepped on as he backed away from the dragon.

Arun would watch as people began to run away from the dragon, the beast shooting fire at the innocent bystanders as things caught on fire. Was...was it supposed to do all of that?! Fire would come straight at him and Shiroo. He would pull his shield out, the sound of metal clicking as it would expand just as the fire reached him. He would feel the rising heat as the flames would go past him on the sides. He pushed forward, the metal of the shield hissing as steam would lift off from it. They had to stop that thing. Arun would turn as he watched the dragon spit fire again, this time at more bystanders. Arun dashed forward, reaching the bystanders as he raised a hand. The earth beneath would tremble for a single moment before a wall of earth and cobblestone arose, blocking the fire. "Go!" He called, the bystanders running off. He would dismiss the wall before dashing towards the dragon. He would block the fires with his shield before reaching a viable distance. He would slam his feet below, earth rising in large pieces before he would kick them towards the dragon, sending them flying towards it.

Vincent would run at Arun, raising his arms up. "Arun! Throw me!" He called. Arun did not give a warning. A piece of earth would rise up beneath Vincent before Arun sent him flying at the dragon too. Vincent screamed in a panic, before snapping out of it and taking out his weapon. Steam would hiss as it transformed, the scythe forming as he would have it land on a horn of the dragon, having him spin on it with the scythe before landing on the head and hanging on.

{Valery - Vivifica Court: Miko; The Outskirts}
Acting on instinct rather then thought, Valery attempted to slash at the spirit with her weapon rather then use magic, allowing it to grapple her. The claws tore into her flesh, but the Warden didn't pay much attention to that. Growling, she concentrated light energy in her fist to give the spirit a short range laser blast. Before the attack was ready, she heard the Maestra's cry. She did her best to shift to be out of Aislnn's attack. The boulders bought the Warden her freedom. She landed lightly on her feet, then unleashed the charged up laser beam, aiming for the spirits center mass.
With the spell away, Valero looked back at her Maestra and nodded her thanks.

{Gerik Lockford - Umbra Court: Big Bridge; in battle}
Gerik gave a friendly smile to the bandit.
"Oh, your survival is not quite assured yet." He said in a jovial tone. "Your answers to some simple questions will determine that. And if I really like your answers, some additional reward on top of your life will be given."
The Umbral Maester made a small hand gesture to Micah, a sigh for the youth to get out the means to take down notes.
"I am indeed the Maester of the Umbra Court." He continued. For the purposes of this conversation, we can't be completely casual, sadly. But a simple 'Mr. Lockford' will suffice instead of full titles. Now, what can you tell me about how and why your little band of miscreants chose to attack this convoy. And what can you tell me about 'the Master', Mr.."
Gerik put on an appalled face.
"Oh where are my manners?" He said with theatrical embarrassment. "I didn't get your name."

{Mako Koyl - Somnum Court: Aboard the Dauntless * Then on the path to Sanctus Heights}
Mako sighed as Kagura's magic soothed her burns. Well, this trip was starting off with a bang. One could hope it would all be "smooth sailing" from here. But Mako wasn't sure she was that lucky. Still, better to relax while she could. She closed her eyes and settled back. Her eyes snapped open when Jari made his invitation.
"Um, sure." The young teleporter said, getting up. "Should be fun."
She glanced down at her wet clothes, feeling self conscious.
"It's, uh, it's a long story..."
************
Still slightly damp in a few places, Mako followed after Professor Nero alone the road to Sanctus Heights. She snuck a few glasses at Jari when she thought he wasn't looking. Hanging out with him as the ship docked had been...nice. But was that the hype from the battle messing with her? Did he feel the same? Gah! She had been through this with Markus in school and...well, that had ended badly, but she thought she was through with this kind of second guessing. This whole being part of a court made her feel like she hadn't actually matured, just faked it. So good as to fool herself.
The incident with the horse and Laguna was a welcome distraction for Mako. She couldn't help but try to catch a glimpse of the mysterious mage's face. Not knowing how to properly refer to Laguna made Mako tend to avoid...them? But avoiding a badass like Laguna who might help get the inexperienced Mako up to speed just seemed idiotic. But the again...
"You aren't hiding any apples up your robes, are you, Laguna?" Mako asked, reaching up to pet the horse.

Jynn, Vivifica - Sanctus Heights
Xion136 Xion136

This was not the first time he has been falsely accused, but Jynn knows causing a ruckus will only tarnish his and Zion’s innocence. “We have no choice but to go Zion. I don’t want us to spark anymore attention on us.” Security grab three pairs of cuffs. Jynn looks around and notices a pond, but it was not just any pond. “Hold on.......” Jynn keeps his attention on it, like he was trying to recall something.

He removes his gauntlet and reveals a white-gold bracelet around his wrist with leafy ornaments hanging on it. For some reason, the pond feels so familiar to him, and then a memory comes back to him.

Purple for Mystics Apprentice Mystics Apprentice

Laughter echoed across the playground, as young school-age children chased one another in play. Wood chips flew as their heavy footfalls hit the ground, none noticing a young girl sitting in the shadows, watching their game but too timid to join. Brown hair pleated behind her back, this chilwas no older than seven years of age, her gaze watching solemnly as the other children interacted. Perhaps she had never played with another child before, or didn't know how to start. Either way, there she sat, watching with curiosity and intrigue.

A young Jynn, around the girl’s age, also did not partake in the game. Instead, he notices the girl sitting in the shade. Even at this age, he was always a bit shy when it came to strangers, but the Vivifica Maestra urged him to make some new friends. He sits somewhere nearby and gives a greeting. “H.......Hi.”

The girl's wide brown eyes fell upon the boy, a shy smile playing on her lips.
"Hi there." She paused, considering Jynn briefly. Her nurse always said it was polite to give out compliments, so she searched him momentarily before adding: "I like your shoes."

What a strange compliment. Perhaps she was just as nervous as Jynn was. He takes the compliment. “Thanks.” He looks back to the children playing. “How come you’re not playing with them?”

"I–" she faltered, gaze falling to her small hands that fidgeted with the hem of her skirt. "I don't think they will like me."
From the corner of her eyes she watched Jynn, scooting slightly closer to where he sat as she asked: "How old are you?" After all, age is very important to children.

Already, it seems like the two are indifferent about the other children. Slowly but surely, Jynn was becoming more comfortable with her after hearing that. She inches closer to him, asking about his age. “Seven.” He wanted to ask hers, but he was advised that it is indecent to ask a girl’s age.

Excitement lit the young girl's eyes. "That's how old I am, too!" she exclaimed, extending her hand out to shake Jynn's. "My name is Mabel. What's yours?"

Jynn reaches his hand out to Mabel’s and shakes it. “My name is Jynn.” He inches closer to her. “So, are you a mage too?”

Mabel mulled over Jynn's name for a bit before smiling. "That's a nice name," she said politely.

The question of whether she was a mage struck her as odd, to which she hung her head. "I'm not a mage, but sometimes I have these thoughts, sights that aren't mine. Is that some kind of magic?" She tilted her head. "What court are you from?"

Jynn looks down. “The Vivifica Court is my home. But I am not a real member yet, if you know what I mean. The Maestra says I’m almost ready to be one though.”
He looks over to her. “Seeing sights and thoughts that aren’t yours? Perhaps that could be some kind of magic.”

"Oh, Vivifica is nice!" Mabel clasped her hands in her lap, smoothing down her skirt with her arms. "I've been there before. The trees are so pretty." She was quiet a moment before adding: "This Maestra . . . is she very nice?"

Jynn smiles. “Yea, it’s a great place. We’re very close to nature. The members are nice, and the Maestra cares for my well being.” He again turns his head to her. “So, where are you from?”

Mabel nodded to Jynn's explanation. "That's good," she replied. "You should always have someone to look after you."
"I've always lived here, in Sanctus Heights," she went on to further explain. "My nurse takes care of me, but between my classes and visiting the four courts, I don't get to visit other people very often, especially kids." Mabel appeared sad momentarily, seemingly lost in thought before asking: "Will you be my friend, Jynn?"

Jynn raises his eyebrows. “Huh? You hardly get the time to meet other people? That sounds harsh.” He looks aside. “Though, I suppose I’m one to talk. I rarely open up to others.”

Mabel asks if Jynn would be her friend, to which Jynn immediately accepts. “Absolutely. I have a feeling we’ll be the best of friends Mabel!”

"Really?" This surprised Mabel. "You seem really nice and friendly to me."
A huge smile lights her face at Jynn's suggestion. She places her hand over his gingerly. "I would love to have a best friend." Her gaze shifts over to the playground, which was relatively deserted when the other children moved on to sidewalk chalk. "Say, uh, Jynn . . . would you play with me?"

The kids leave the playground, leaving it open. As soon as Mabel asks him to play with her, he immediately replies. “Sure! What would you like to play?”

"Hmm, how about . . . ." Mabel's words trailed off, before she wore a goofy grin and tapped Jynn's shoulder. "You're IT!" With that, the brunette girl squealed, leaping up and darting away from the youth before he could catch her.

Upon hearing “You’re it!”, Jynn tries to tag Mabel back, but to no avail. The girl was quick to flee. “Hey, wait up!” Jynn gets to his feet and runs after her. Slowly he inches up behind her, and extends his hand out to touch her shoulder. “You’re it!” Immediately, he slides to a halt and runs the other direction with a smile on his face.

The girl felt an overwhelming sense of joy and pride, one that she had never wholly felt before. The afternoon went on with the two of them becoming fast friends, chasing each other until they could run no more and, finally, the two wound up by the pond. The water glistened as the afternoon sun sank lower into the sky. It was marking the end of the summer solstice, and soon the mages from the four courts would return home.

"I had so much fun with you, Jynn," Mabel began, placing her hands under the cool water as it coursed slowly downstream. "I am really glad that you are my friend. Can we be best friends, too?"

Jynn also places his hands underneath the water. “Yea! I had a blast! I don’t think I’ve ever met someone as fun as you.” Mabel then asks if she can consider him a best friend. “After all the fun we had, I think we already are best friends.”

Mabel's eyes closed as her face broke into a smile. "I'm so glad!" The young girl then removed a bracelet that she'd been wearing from underneath her sweater, and moved to attach it to Jynn's wrist while his hands were still in the water.

"Jynn, I want you to have this." The bracelet was made from a white-gold material, with leaves of multiple shapes hanging like ornaments around the chain. "It has protected me from great harm, and maybe the day will come when this bracelet shall protect you." She tilted her head with a soft smile. "And that way, whenever you look at it, you will remember me, and this day that we shared."

Jynn raises his arm and examines the bracelet. It has apparently kept Mabel safe through harsh times. “Wow. You want to give me something that personal?” He looks to her and holds her hand. “I promise I will cherish it for my entire life. And I will always remember you, and this day. The day we first met.”

Mabel nodded enthusiastically, intertwining her fingers with his. "That makes me happy." She shot Jynn a smile over her shoulder, dark brown hair blowing lightly in the breeze. "I promise that I will always remember you, too, Jynn. Always."

After that, several more memories race back. For nine years, he felt that he was missing parts of himself, and finally, a small, but yet important piece returns to him. A tear runs down his cheek, much to Jynn’s surprise. “Huh? Since when.......?” He shakes it off and puts the bracelet around his gauntlet. It was a snug and perfect fit.

Jynn turns back to security. “My apologies.” Before the cuffs are put on, Jynn tries a suggestion. “Perhaps I can make a deal with you. The High Priestess has summoned all four courts to Sanctus Heights for some sort of get together on the morrow, that would include us. Though, for unknown reasons, Maestra Aislinn refused to make an appearance, but, we Vivifica mages, have decided to come without her. So, onto my proposition. If you let us attend this meeting, you may watch our every move if you’re still believe we are guilty, and also, while doing so, we shall..........” Jynn grabs his revolver by the barrel, offering it to the security. “..........surrender our weapons. Do we have a deal?” He patiently awaits the security’s decision.

Lev finished her churros, and throws the wrapping out. But as soon as she does, people started running and screaming from the square. Wondering what all the commotion is about, she heads into the square, where Vincent and Arun are facing a dragon.
Vincent was atop the dragon, with a scythe digging inside its horns. Lev offers backup, and she pulls out her sword and gun. She fires a bullet at the beast’s eye.
