The Forming of Groth-Lakkar and the Creation Wars

Inheritance

We're only getting older, let's enjoy ourselves.
The Dark is a place shrouded in mystery, a terrible place that no mortal can ever visit and expect to come out alive...at least, not under their own power. The beings of the Dark are known for their corruption, their black power, and their horrid influence of the mind-one that twists it's victims to the point where free thought is but a distant memory faded in mist.

But this is not the story of what the Lords of Groth-Lakkar can do to you, nor the power they promise. This is the story of how they were created, and how the Gods were too foolish to see the mistake they were creating...before it was too late.

All magic leaves residue. Be it ash, smoke, or invisible energy that only the most gifted can see, all leaves residue. When mortals cast magic, it typically doesn't do much, as most mortals are restricted to spells that can effect and influence the world, such as turning matter into fire, or calling down lightning, or charming. Most magic of the mortal type are harmless, and because only Gods and very certain spells can create or destroy matter, there is always a conversion to energy of some type. This magical residue is typically just washed back into the universe where it is essentially recycled, easy as that.

However, there are a few exceptions to this rule. For one, certain magics involving the altering of Time and Space can break this law, leaving strange holes in the universe. Luckily Gods typically handle this and it goes away fine. However, there is an extreme break to these rules, one that caused the formation of Groth-Lakkar.

When Gods cast magic, their power is extreme and amplified hundreds of times better than most mortals. So residue of a God's magic can't just be swept away into the universe, there is simply too much and it is too radioactive. Such waste being recycled into the universe would cause an imbalance and impurity within magic, so the Gods typically store it in their own realms, and it isn't a problem. Of course, the true problem came with the God War.

Good and Evil have been fighting since the dawn of time. Their nature conflicts, just as Order and Chaos must fight, as do Good and Evil. Some say the reason why the worlds were created was so the Gods could continue their duel through the ways of their minions. Whatever it may be, it is certain that clashes between good and evil happen every moment. However, none have seen a clash of good and evil like the clash of the Gods. Thousands of years before the common era, a world bloomed. It was a world that was not torn apart by war, but a world of thriving people and radiant peace. However, this was not to last, as the Gods of Chaos and Evil looked upon this with hatred, and demanded war, demanded the peace and Order to break. For many years, the Evil Gods' minions worked to bring fourth Agares, the God of Nightmares, Chaos, and Treachery. While the world thrived, nobody noticed the slow rise of Evil, and their eventual summon was almost completely secret and unchallenged. Agares sent his evil hordes to swarm the world, and destroyed many lives and many empires. Of course, the Gods of Light couldn't do nothing, and with Agares weakening the barrier between the Godly Planes and the Physical Plane, Kilmorph stormed the first plane and rushed to defend the good people of the world. Unfortunate for him, this did not work out as planned, because now there were two GODS in the Physical Plane.

When the world was young, there were but 4 Primal Gods. These Primal Gods set fourth many of the laws and Planes that are known today. Part of those laws, was a barrier protecting the Physical Plane from too much harm from the Gods, so that the people of the world could not just be squashed like insects by the Gods. However, when more and more Gods pushed through it, the barrier got weaker and weaker, until finally, it wasn't there at all. Gods from both sides began to pour into the Physical Plane to meet their opposite in combat, to have an ultimate fight of good and evil, to win once and for all.

The followers of the Gods tried to help fight, but found very quickly that they were nothing compared to the giant Gods that fought each other. Even fighting the other mortals was useless, as they could not get close without invoking the enemy God's wrath, so the mortals of the world sat, while their reality got torn apart by the two factions of warring Gods. At some point in this, the Neutral Gods realized that if they let this happen, the worlds would be torn apart and all mortal life would die. To prevent this, the Neutral Gods shot out and begun to fight both Good and Evil (who were already massively crippled at this point) to try and save the world. Of course, all they did was add to the problem, and the world was torn apart by now 3 warring factions in a terrible battle royal.

This war went on for a long time. Nobody knows how long, because it got to the point where reality was shattered, time did not flow, space was broken. The Fighting continued for days, weeks, months, years, centuries...nobody knows for sure, because Gods do not feel time as we do. They fought, until all three sides were exhausted, and looked upon the fragments of reality they had created. They looked in horror at the broken planes, the broken world, and the empty space. Almost empty, for of course, there was the great mass. A black mass swirled with almost a life, the magical residue from who knows how long of Gods Clashing. The Gods looked upon this, too tired to fight now, and realized that they would need to work together to create a new world, and that the Primal God's laws needed to be followed if reality was ever to be maintained.

The first step to this, would be to stuff this black swirling mass of energy somewhere. The God's home planes were ruined, and could not store all this raw chaos energy. There was so much of this, it is said that that cloud alone could destroy ten thousand of our worlds. So their way of dealing with this, was to create a pocket in space time, a new dimension, and shoved all this energy and residue from the God War into it. Now, you had residue from millenniums (who knows really) of Gods Warring, compressed into a space far too tight for the amount of raw power. It compressed, the energy sparked, the immortal essence inside it that came from the Gods sparked, and a sentient being was formed. This theory is supported by the fact that Godly Residue is almost alive by itself, and has the ability to shape reality just like their magic. So when enough energy that could form it's own reality was compressed into a dimension, sentient life was born. This life came in the form, of Groth-Lakkar.

Some say that the Groth-Lakkar is it's own being, and it gave birth to the Lords of the Dark. Some say it is just the name of it the place, and nothing more. Others say that Groth-Lakkar is all one sentient being, and all the Dark Lords are just extensions of itself. Whatever the truth is, it is known that the Dark is a terrible place, and the Gods created it out of their own foolishness.
