Everyone longs for a hero, but few want to be one.
Centuries have crawled by with nothing but an ancient prophecy keeping people's hope alive. By now people are starting to despair as the evil curse sinks its claws deeper into the land, spreading darkness and death to everything it touches. Soon what little food is left will be gone, along with the dying sun.
All across the land, people are succumbing to the effects of the curse. Men, women, and children, the curse claims whatever life it can without bias.
Still, they dust off the ancient prophecy whenever given the chance, recounting it's promise to send a courageous hero to save the world as they know it.
Up within the snow mountains of the kingdom, you find yourself trapped within a sudden blizzard, it's ferocity unrivaled in your memory of past storms. As you fear the end is near, you happen upon The Toad's Fool- a middle-of-nowhere rundown pub ran by a cantankerous, retired cobbler and his son.
You find shelter there under his roof-and his uncomfortable scrutiny- where a fire burns low in the hearth and other travelers have sought shelter from the storm. Rather quickly, it becomes apparent that the blizzard will be raging on for quite a while and you're not going anywhere at least for the night.
Given that there are no other rooms in the pub aside from the kitchen, you're stuck with the other travelers-an odd assortment at that.
Misfit camarderie soon finds you all at the same table, enjoying a nice game of cards, hearty mugs of cider and mead, and retelling tales of past adventures.
Then comes the inevitable mention of the curse.
However somber the topic, the group around you is not deterred from enjoying their evening and the company around them, so someone makes a bet.
If the next card should be an Ace of Hearts, they all have to trek across hell and back to break the curse together, prophecy or no prophecy.
It's a good idea until the card turns out to be an Ace of Hearts.
Maybe it's the good spirits or the warmth in your stomach from the drink, but you cheer along with the rest of the group as you all laugh and agree to follow through. Afterall, there's nothing else better to do in a dying land.
You just hope you're not chasing down a death that's already chasing you.
Afterall, the prophecy could be wrong. Instead of some fictitious hero of valor and a pure heart saving the day, maybe it's an unlikely band of misfits.
Yeah, right. You're all going to die. Probably.

Hello! Thanks for reading thus far. I'm excited to hopefully get this one going. Like the plot above said, this rp is staged during a time of great tribulation for the people, but no one really tries to step forward to break the curse, instead opting to wait on some prophecy an old priest had given long ago. Your character can be whoever you want them to be, but they're a misfit of some sort whether it be a criminal on the run, a social outcast, or a lone ranger on the road for one last ride before the curse claims them all.
Knowing the end is near and that time is running out- definitely not because they're just too drunk on drink or the joy of finding kindred spirits, ahem- the group jokingly agrees to trek across the long stretch of dying land filled with less food and more terrifying creatures and criminals, to try to break the curse themselves, if the next card that is drawn is an Ace of Hearts.
When it is, instead of backing out, they all unite, throwing regard for fate and caution to the wind.
Be it chance or destiny, they may just be the world's unlikeliest band of heroes.
Even at a great cost, no one sees coming.

This should be a smaller group, say around 5.
If you're MIA for more than 1 week without notice, you forfeit your place and character. Should you return and share interest again and a cookie, you can rejoin unless we're maxed out.
All I ask is you just let me know. Sometimes tragedy strikes even in real life so of course that's different, but if you just vanish like the light in this rp without warning, then we'll sideline your character so I don't lose everyone else's interest while we wait on a ghost. But again, if you want to come back, just ask and we'll see where we're at.
This rp has darker themes, but will also have friendship and humor mixed in.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
