Realistic or Modern The Fittest- a post apocalypse adventure.

The Ultimate Power source
Whoever said that world war 4 would be fought with sticks and stones either was greatly underestimating humanity, or greatly overestimating the destructive potential of nuclear warheads. It started in 2019, russia had begun development of Hypersonic rockets starting a new arms race. Yet it was 2020 when the actual switch was flipped. No one saw it coming due to the chaos of a pandemic and a widely contested election period. As such the development of the USA's stealth rockets was swept under the rug but not wholely without notice. Two years later in 2022 a nuclear detonation in china turned the worlds eyes on the united states the only nation with stealth strike capabilities of the required magnitude for such a strike. Quickly the gears of war began to turn and despite not actually being behind the strike the USA was unable to prove their innocence.

War broke out in the mainland and mighty as they were the United states military was quickly overwhelmed. Until the civilian populace got involved at least. That old saying about a gun behind every blade of grass rang true. That paired with the global reach of their navy allowed the USA to launch a wide number of counterstrikes while their civilians held the homeland invaders at bay. The tides began to shift and the world made a decision they didn't want to make. The righteous indignation of the US was very dangerous when paired with their military force. So a precision nuclear strike was sanctioned, the Intelligence agencies got wind of this and retaliated in turn. All at once tens of thousands of city breaking rockets took to the air. Defense systems around the world did their best to mitigate the damage but only succeeded in stopping 29% of the warheads leaving thousands to hit their mark.

In a flash billions died around the world. The missiles stuck so close together in timing that the earth itself shook with the violent explosions. Cities toppled and the emp unleashed crashed the electrical networks of the world and the earth went dark. Needless to say it was the single darkest day in humanities history but it was not the end. Mankind had survived but barely, those who fled to bunkers made it through mostly unscathed but those who weren't in bunkers were not so lucky. They had to fight a grueling battle against the now rapidly mutating flora and fauna as they themselves were mutated beyond recognition. Humanity however is stubbornly resilient.

Those who were forced into this horror themselves began to mutate with two separate kinds of mutational strain. The Gorkers were humans who began to mutate to grow larger and stronger. They began to thrive in radioactive zones, they would age to adulthood in only ten years and age to their death in only 35. This short lifespan paired with inbreeding as there weren't many other survivors in their area resulted in both a massive population boom for them and a far greater likelihood to continue the mutation.

Still another kinda of human evolved in this radioactive wasteland. The Radicals, humans who could absorb radiation and use it to fuel special gifts that gave them an edge in dealing with the wastes. They were normal humans for all intents and purposes just unhindered and in fact thriving in radioactive zones. The biggest downside is as more and more radiation is absorbed by them their mind begins to slip away as their special gifts grow making them some of the more dangerous things to find out in the wastes.

Finally after 50 years of this madness the massive government sanctioned bunkers around the world opened releasing from them the last remnants of old humanity. Sadly as with the times of the ice age in the past this puts multiple kinds of humans fighting to claim the severely limited resources of earth. The Gorkers bringing physical strength beyond the others with the brutality to use it. The Radicals come with unpredictable powers and the survival skills built by generations of dwelling in the wastes. With the humans of old bringing the more advanced technology of the 21st century rather than the improvised tools available to the others. It turns out that world war 4 will be fought with soldiers who arent exactly human.

All right so this rp actually takes place over a smallish area and is not a global scale story. Thats just so that we can reuse this world having different stories take place in different regions. The area for this story is along the gulf coast from Mexico to Florida. While the three factions have no real borders to speak of they do have central areas almost like capitols in their respective area's. The Humans of Old have their territories established in southern texas and northern mexico emerging from a bunker in Mexico city and quickly migrating from the dangerous metropolis towards the coast. They come with advanced technologies as the bunker never stopped R&D. Rudimentary laser weapons and experimental power armor suits are their trademark and while they are the newest faction of the scene they are so far the most well established and fortified of the three factions.

From Houston to New Orleans is the radicals territory. They have turned the wide range of land between these two cities into farmlands where they grow irradiated crops and herd mutated beasts of burden. The two cities are their two most fortified strongholds and keep both other factions at bay. The area between the cities are dotted with villages and they actually have old school Ham radio communication meaning even if a town or village is under assault by a superior force it wont be long before backup arrives. Much like the Gorkers, the entire population of radicals are combat applicable as even the children have abilities that are hard to counter.

Most of Florida is run by the gorkers whose main base is the everglades. They have domesticated the terrifying Radgators and use them as both engines of war and guardians of special posts. Their short lifespans and high reproductive rate make them the most numerous of the three factions and their physical superiority make it hard to deal with them in combat. However they are hindered by their own low intelligence not allowing them to utilize their strengths or even the resources of their land to the fullest. However gorkers are still smart enough to strategize and set traps though they are usually simple ambushes and pit traps. Due to having to constantly struggle against the deadly wilderness they have become a hyper aggressive species just as likely to kill one another as anything else. As such they exist in scattered and constantly warring tribes rather than a single large populace.

You may play a member of any of these three tribes and even have control of NPC's, even a whole town if you think you c an manage such a thing. Just bear in mind this isnt marvel and no one is an invincible badass. Even if you are at the pinnacle of allowable power...a dude with a gun is still a threat.

The powers granted to The Radicals are catagorized and set in stone. New powers cannot be added to this list and you must pick a single one.

Fire ball- Absorbed radiation is stored in the body where it generates a special chemical that can be ejected from the hands. This chemical ignites on contact with oxygen allowing the radical to hurl fireballs with effects similar to a molotov cocktail. However this chemical runs out quickly and takes time to build up enough radiation to make it work. The radical with this power can likely hurl three fireballs before needing to gather up more radiation.

Electric touch- the absorbed radiation causes static energy to be stored in the body at an exceptional rate. This power will continue to build in potency with no upward limits however its a one time use before it will need to recharge. Upon touching a foe all of the stored static energy will be discharged into them. Typically this is enough to kill a normal human outright, but a Tougher target like a Former or large Rad beast will likely need three days of charge to put down in one touch.

Feather- Absorbed radiation is converted into a strange resistance to gravity. This allows users to leap great distances and heights, makes them unnaturally agile, and completely immunizes them to fall damage. Furthermore they become more resistant to impact damage as they are light enough that the blow will likely just toss them aside with little damage being done. This effect extends to things on their person making them able to carry far more supplies than others.

Regeneration- the most common of abilities among the radicals is the ability to heal. They bleed at a slower rate, their wounds close faster, they recover stamina quickly and given enough time and radiation can even make their healing factor fast enough to keep them fighting through crippling or lethal injury. This power builds up slowly and as it is used its power gets progressively weaker. As such those with this ability are wise to not rely on it heavily.

Rad sense- Easily one of the most useful abilites a radical may have. Those with rad sense can actually detect subtle variations in the presence of radiation. Using this they can actually sense the pressence of rad beasts, Gorkers, and even the relatively rad free humans. They can sense how irradiated an area is and unlike the other abilities this one does not grow weaker as it is used instead it actually grows stronger over time...sadly this ability can lead to Rad madness more than any other ability.

Radioactive burst- The most feared ability of the Radicals, at least most feared by humans. The radical will absorb radiation faster than most other radicals and it is stockpiled in their body until it can be unleashed as a pulse of energy and radiation. Normally this pulse can shut down advanced electrical technology and instantly bathe a foe in what would be a lethal dose of radiation. Gorkers and Rad beasts are immune to the average burst. What makes this power so terrifying is a radical who has it can inadvertantly store enough radioactive energy to effectively become a miniature nuclear bomb...nothing is immune to that level of burst...not even the radical who triggered the burst. Many radicals have died in kamikaze attacks in this manner.

As the series progresses new mutations may arise within the radicals or alternatively different regions may have developed different powers. But for now this is the availible list.

I will be adding in depth sections about the gorkers and humans as well but I gotta go for now.

As promised here is a more in depth look at these guys. While Radicals and humans look normal for the most part, Gorkers are not so lucky but even they are just big misshapen people so finding images should be relatively easy.

The large hulking brutes of the floridian coast call the everglades home. Having shared this harsh environment with the apex predators such as the Radgator they have developed into am excessively brutal and violent people as likely to rip your arm off as they are to shake your hand. On average an adult gorker will be around eight feet tall and weigh nearly 500lbs of pire rippling muscle. Their bones are denser, their muscles much stronger, and their circulatory and nervous system minimalized. Sadly this drastically decreased their intellect due to their thicker skulls allowing less room for the brain even proportionate to their size. As such the average IQ of a gorker can range from 70-90. The more intelligent gorkers are often also the physically superior ones as they realize that watching their diet and exercising makes them stronger. This is a very good thing however as without the more intelligent Gorkers their species would've been extinct in a single generation. Gorkers do not have an overarching hierarchy but rather several scattered tribes that each answer to their own leader called the Morker, for they are more than a gorker in their eyes. While violence and cruelty are natural for them so is intimidation and threats which tend to be the best way to deal with them in a diplomatic sense. Their population sits at a sadly small 88,000 individuals as they are far more likely to die fighting something than live to old age.

The radicals are very similar to the humanity of old possessing the same physical and mental attributes. However they classify themselves as something different altogether viewing the old humanity as their foolish progenitors who left them a broken world. They live in a caste system determined by the abilities they have. Those with the electric touch fuel generators and work on power lines and the energy grid. Those with fire powers cook and are often. Forge workers and blacksmiths. Those with the feather power would often be scavengers, picking clean the bones of cities, taking all things of value back home. Each ability comes with its own job in the community yet all are taught to fight and survive. The radicals actually have the lowest population of any race with only around 20 or 30 thousand, but due to their abilities and every member of their tribe being warriors they are very formidable nonetheless with only a handful of them being able to completely dominate a battlefield.

The largest population of any faction is the humans as 500,000 people called the north American Ark bunker home. Careful population control and strict breeding regulations kept that number manageable for fifty years but as resources began to run thin and exterior radiation levels dropped to safe levels the doors finally swung open. Those who grew up in this bunker did so in a similar manner to what they had before the bombs fell. They went to school, though the curriculum was mostly focused on rebuilding society and learning the history of mankind. The war was framed as an inevitability and they were taught that their very existence was mankind's greatness shining through the inevitability. As such war is not thought of as a bad thing but rather an absolute that will occur one way or another, meaning the population took little convincing to declare war on the other two races. While one would think the powers and skills of the Radicals, or the raw brute power of the the Gorkers would stop them cold in their tracks. However humanity brings to the table something the other two lack. Innovation. The Radicals have salvaged tech from 2020, plus a few makeshift gadgets, the gorkers have basically nothing beyond metal working and are comparable to humanity in the 1400's. Meanwhile the humans of the Ark bunker have been developing technology for the past 50 years with no set backs such as having to rebuilt or having your brain shrink. As such they have come with advanced armors and weapons, hovercraft, amd a wide array of advanced technology that gives them an undeniable edge.
