One x One The Extirpation of Illios

Muck Hounds- A wolflike beast with large ears and lightweight bodies, these creatures typically stand around 3-4 feet high at the shoulder. Long thin legs and stomachs are covered in a coarse fur that feels much like sand to the touch. Their paws are wide, and allow them to walk over soft ground such as mud or sand without sinking in and becoming stuck. The fur on their back, tail, and head is longer, and can be raised to release stored body heat. The calls of these beasts are a mixture of short barks and whines, only rarely will these beasts howl.

Wurms- one of the largest creatures known, wurms are primarily subterranean creatures. Their bodies are long and serpentine in structure with platelike scales covering most of their bodies. The head is composed of an impossibly strong carapace that forms around their five sectioned mandibles. Though typically feasting on raw minerals in the soil, there have been some reports of larger wurms attacking livestock and poultry. Wurms start out miniscule in size and constantly grow as they age. They hunt by smell and can locate prey with their specialized thermal vision. When they reach a certain size they begin to burrow deeper underground to feast on the richer material below the surface. Each year the number of large wurms seen on the surface increases. This is believed to be a direct result of the mining efforts of the people of Osterlund. Small wurms are commonly kept as pets for the silk they produce, but must be disposed of when they grow too large. Their silk, much like the scales and mandibles of the Wurms themselves, strengthens with age. The material harvested from a century old wurm is said to be as strong as steel.
