PLOT SUMMARY
It’s the 1979, and our cast of characters are a complicated mess but a friend group all the same. They’re off messing around in the woods one day in celebration of THE KING REBORN’s birthday, doing real loser-kid shit and telling ghost stories at three in the afternoon. An eye spots them through a knot in the oak tree. It watches them. The group gets into an argument, likely due to some sort of tension caused by THE KNIGHT’s begrudging attendance. One of them, probably THE NIMM PRINCE/SS leans against the tree, and the trunk flips back to swallow them, and in the attempt to save them, the rest of the crew is sucked down too.

Below a strange world greats them. It’s called The Batting, and children with horns and hooves say hello as they traipse through fields of pinkish wheat. The sun (or is it the moon?) in the sky is actually a large, friendly face attached to a mountain ravine. The group moves along, eventually finding a small village where they learn the nature of this place, the nature of why they’re here (as all the Hands, the citizens of this strange underworld, agree that Fate must have a reason for why two humans are here), and also how to get home. Once they discover the answer to the latter, though, they will have to attend to a multitude of others, ultimately sacrificing themselves for this strange world called The Batting.

We're going to be exploring two plots. Plot A is the one of them discovering the world, going through their own personal developments and internal conflicts, and also them navigating the powers that they develop. We will be exploring both plots based on muse and where we are in the story.

ROLES

THE GANG WHO RETURNS TO EARTH

THE GHOSTopen. They were on the rise, having just been signed to a record label, when they made the mistake of joining their old friends for one last jaunt. They were set to ship out to L.A., to make it big, and then it all came tumbling down. They were not so easily charmed by the Hands of the Batting, nor the new abilities that generated (of which there were few). They were angry, a once sweet child, a once ambitious musician with so much talent that had turned soured. Somewhere along the way, they managed to see that there was more than their all-consuming need to be a success. They found a certain charm, not in the Batting, but in the friends they were so quick to turn their back on, all in fear of what they might think of them. What are you so afraid of? THE LADY OF THE LAKE told the angry GHOST one time. They decided to be fearless. Returning to the natural world after they’d saved the Batting came with a cost. THE LADY OF THE LAKE was the better one to return, but they didn’t. Instead, GHOST did. They were dying, you see, when THE KING REBORN made their choice. Half-awake, even less alive, they were miraculously whole when they returned to Earth. Except, they were dead. Their body was all that remained in the Batting, leading THE KNIGHT, THE LADY OF THE LAKE, and THE SHIFTER to think they’re dead. Above, they are cursed to a life of impermanence. Lost and alone without THE LADY OF THE LAKE, who they’d admitted to their long-standing love to right before they died, with only half the friends that reminded them of music and not fame, THE GHOST is a shell of themself. Taking to possession, to aimless identities that all seem to get consumed with addiction and depression, they are an impermanent fixture in THE SHIFTER and THE KING REBORN’s life.

THE SHIFTERopen. When they were first sucked into the below, they turned into a strange creature. It was as though the Batting had been waiting for them to come, to change them into their true form. Stricken with ram’s horns, pegasus wings, donkey hooves, and an insatiable and unending soul, they were now transformed into some nightmarish, afflicted vampire wolf. They didn’t know what to make of their condition, and how cursed they felt by it! They ate the bodies of the sheep that were so common to the Batting, crying once they’d transformed into a less beastly thing (though never quite human again). The Batting was a curse to them, but they continued to push forth. They needed to understand everything, to get to the bottom of this great affliction, this great mystery. When they were finally able to go home after saving the place they’d come to love and hate in the same way they loved and hated their mother and numerous siblings, they were finally at ease. Except, when they returned home, they were lost. Who were they before? They couldn’t remember anymore. A former roller derby powerhouse, a doll of the heavy scene, a doting and protective eldest sibling. Who were they? People seemed intent on reminding them, unsure what had happened to them over the course of the afternoon. Had I really only been that creature for an afternoon? It was befuddling, confusing, and they ended up in a similar mess with THE KING REBORN. Except, instead of hardening and turning their back on what was lost, THE SHIFTER became obsessed with remembering it all. A conspiracy theorist, a novelty amongst the community they once were admired within, no one knows what to make of THE SHIFTER anymore.

THE KING REBORNtaken. It was their birthday when everything turned upside down. They were not prepared for the way that the Batting immediately called to them, and they’re the first to admit that the intimacy shared with a place so unfamiliar scared them. A metal-head, outcast in real life, the people of the Batting took to the jailbait with ease and light. They looked up to THE KING REBORN, something that they were used to only their friends doing. Over time, they learned to become a leader instead of a wallflower, selective in their actions and inactions. When they sealed themself off from the one place they called home, when they said goodbye to THE KNIGHT, THE NIMM PRINCE/SS, and THE SHIFTER, something they’d always desired escaped them. They’ve spent the decade since in complete disrepair, but also having shrunk back into their shell. Maybe they went briefly back to prison or to the psych ward this time, unable to get heroism out of their head. Now, after a decade, they’ve finally convinced themself it was all a dream. They’ve finally pushed the grief so far down, they refuse to believe it was even there to begin with and that repressed feeling has filled the hole that was made in their great sacrifice.

THE GANG STUCK BELOW

THE KNIGHTtaken. Distant from the group, having disappeared from their hometown about three to five years prior, they weren’t expecting to be stuck in a magical land. Furthermore, they weren’t expecting to be stuck in a magical land with people that they’d rather forget. However, as time will show, the former groupie’s heart will melt, and they’ll grow to get with the program. In fact, they’ll take to the knighthood of this realm well, becoming on par with the warrior Hands that the Batting are known to have. However, once they are left behind in the Batting, they spend the next decade on their own, fighting the monsters that still pop up on the Feed. Cursed to a life of fighting, as the prophecy foretells, they take to the role begrudgingly, missing their friends and the innocence of the girl that first rolled down into this mythical land. Hardened in a similar way to THE KING REBORN, ironically, they do not hold out hope, simply continuing to truck forward.

THE NIMM PRINCE/SStaken. A floppy-eared, hell-raising devil of a person and THE KNIGHT’s younger, half-sibling. Always unremembering of their origins, they floated into town in search of the few family they knew they had (THE KNIGHT and her older sister), taking up THE KNIGHT’s former friend group as their own. Most didn’t know they were their sibling until it was too late and they had all been trapped in a world unknown. THE NIMM PRINCE/SS is known for their antics, their kind heart, and their ability to alleviate the tension. They were planning to enroll in the local university with the rest of the gang (even convinced THE KNIGHT to join them) when they were sucked into the Batting. Upon their arrival, a local Redwork Nimmpish stood with her eyes as dinner plates, marveled at THE NIMM PRINCE/SS. It was due to this recognition that the group eventually came to learn of the prophecy concerning them. Identified as the lost NIMM PRINCE/SS, they were immediately crowned, generating wings and abilities befitting a Nimm. After the prophecy was fulfilled, the NIMM PRINCE/SS remained, growing begrudgingly into a role of absolute power. A role so dull, that it eventually dulled them too. They had so much power, but nothing to do with it. Inert, they have taken to overconsumption, to making an absolute fool out of themself. (edited)

THE LADY OF THE LAKEtaken. The one who the group looked to for guidance, whose opinion was remembered and revered even by THE KNIGHT. They could direct a crowd anywhere, could beckon one to do almost anything. Their energy was so compelling, it made many drunk. THE LADY had a natural way of making everyone feel warm, inviting. The mom/dad friend, if you will – the overachiever, the one who was going to change the world and shit. The one who was secretly tired. Then, the Batting knocked them. They were drowning, so they learned to either sink or swim. They, logically, chose the latter. Except, despite all their efforts to flourish, they sunk in their final hour. They were wounded, and they wanted to be remembered when they died. They looked at THE GHOST, who was already dying, and they realized that this was why they’d lived so long. A final sacrifice, befitting for an end and a tribute. Go without me, they thought, hoping that THE GHOST lived more than they wanted to survive. Then, when the fog cleared and they healed upon being placed in the lake, when they finally had time to get their sea legs (which was actually a tail), they grew a distaste. An envy. There was love still there, but now they’d wasted so much time. This was all they were capable of – swimming, singing, and befriending sailors. Happily Ever After, even with their frequent companion, THE KNIGHT, was disheartening. They’d done the right thing, but now, they had no reason to continue. (edited)
A multitude of reasons and ways in which they should’ve rethought everything, should’ve made sure everyone got out (they always feel guilty when they visit with THE KNIGHT and THE NIMM PRINCE/SS), should’ve put themself in the water and saved THE GHOST some how… it caused a damn-near nervous break down. Now, they’re trying to keep the time filled, perhaps taking to some sort of unsavory, yet highly emotional job that has forced them to go numb. Maybe they work alongside THE KNIGHT or serve in THE NIMM PRINCE/SS’s guard.

me, fondly looking at anyone wanting to fill these roles:

After some thinking, I have a few questions regarding the RP:

1. Are faceclaims required and if so, should they be drawn or realistic/photos?
1a. There is a description for the shifter's Batting Form. Are they set in stone or could I alter the form a bit (while still keeping in line with the vampire-wolf idea)
2. How old is everyone supposed to be now? I get the vibe that the incident happened when they were in their late teens and it's been ten years since, but I want to be sure.
3. I'm a bit confused about there being two plots as Plot A is explained but not Plot B. Is the idea that the story will be told from both the past (when everyone was first taken into the Batting) and the present (after the Batting is saved and Ghost and Shifter return home) perspectives?
