Overview
T
he year was 2043, and the Western World was in a state of devastating civil wars, with destruction and human toll on track to that of the Second World War. But soon, the civil wars and their destruction would be interrupted by a threat far greater than that the West, or the world, has ever seen. But in order to understand this threat, one would have to look at what happened on July 14th, 2024.
On a warm day in mid July in 2021 in the Nahanni River Valley in the Northwest Territories in Canada, an explosion would disturb the desolate National Park and Preserve. Due to the isolated and largely uninhabited nature of the area, reports were nonexistent for a time, and official governmental response was slow at first. Once the Canadian government got word of a serious explosion, they dispatched a team to investigate the situation. What would follow would be highly classified, with documents almost completely blacked out. Wild rumors circulated, but nothing was confirmed. After a week or so, the Canadian government put out a statement. In it, they claimed a small asteroid impacted an area in the Nahanni River Valley. A wildfire broke out as a result, and teams were actively trying to contain the fire. It wouldn’t be for several months later that the government would come forward with findings from this piece of space rock that impacted the earth. In it, they explained that the first signs of life outside our planet were confirmed, with the existence of an organic powder that was found stored within the remnants of the asteroid.
The years afterwards were full of speculation and supposed whistleblowers coming forth with classified information about the recovery of this organic material. As such, conspiracies about the asteroid core being of intelligent design housing this “dust,” as the organic compound became referred to as, and that it was being tested on humans. Governments categorically denied this. But in 2024, corporations and governments began to break news that this dust was found to be a miracle cure to almost all illnesses. They claimed that in controlled studies, people suffering from things such as cancer, even terminally ill cases, had complete recovery in under 24 hours. From minor infections to genetic disorders, this dust was proving to be an incredibly effective tool in combatting human and animal health disorders. As such, a medical revolution followed, with the dust becoming used as the cure to everything. It was even cleared, in small doses, as a supplement readily and commonly available at stores worldwide.
However, with great success came great questioning and resistance. A large portion of the populace renounced this miracle drug, believing it was being used for nefarious reasons by both the government and corporations, combined with anecdotal stories that were claimed to be coverups of strange side effects coming from usage of this dust. As the years went on, this division between these groups of people and the government and corporations only grew, as more and more events lead the Western World down the path towards civil war. And in 2040, the Western world erupted in civil war.
At first, the fighting was isolated and random throughout the countries in the West. Small scale battles raged randomly in different areas. But as time went on, things only worsened. Factions of the military would break off and cause infighting, while cities and towns became ground zero as the war grew larger. The governments at first were successful in thwarting the initial attacks from being effective. But as time for on and the rebellious forces in the countries became larger, better armed, and more organized, the destruction and death toll would only begin to rise. Entire towns and cities burned or were bombed into oblivion, civilians were caught in the crossfire. The war only became bloodier and bloodier as the years began to pass.
But these wars would be stopped in their tracks when the parasite attacked. And the world would fall to its knees, at the mercy of this parasite.
As the war raged on in 2042, the rebels in many Western countries were turning the tide of war, and winning on many fronts. But as the rebels pushed towards the capitals of their respective countries, something horrifying happened. People began to deform, their bodies violently changing. These people, these monsters, began to turn on their fellow man, biting some, devouring others. Nothing was spared: elderly, children, women, and even animals fell prey to this horror.
This horror would be found out to be a product of the dust humanity had been using heavily throughout the world, and the parasite it was became known. Wars still raged, but they were shattered and complicated. Entire cities would be bombed, burned into oblivion. Both sides in the conflict did whatever they could to control the outbreak of this parasite. But every strategy failed. While the beginning of the outbreak showed an unorganized attack by the parasite. The sheer number of infected and the speed at which the parasite spread was what gave them an advantage. As more and more people were consumed, and cities became giant hives of biomass, the attacks became more intelligent and coordinated. By late 2043, actions of desperation for whatever remained of governments would see the only second use of nuclear weapons in history, but this time far more widespread and dramatic. As many of the governments convened and discussed what to do, they came to the conclusion that cities and highly infected area would need to be bombed and destroyed to oblivion. This was because the complicated webs of interconnected tentacles of the parasite's biomass revealed the construction of a large central intelligence, one that guided the parasite in its attacks and strategy, which only became more complicated and intelligent as the biomass and infected added up. Numerous central intellgiences sprung up around the world in cities where the outbreak was becoming large and completely uncontrolled. The parasite was even shown capable, at a certain point in the infection, of using electronics, electronic infrastructure, and machinery. Because of this, nuclear weapons were deployed in mass, being utilized to asbombs and EMP's to disable electronics. This strategy proved effective, but it was not the final solution.
In the United States, the government forces captured a woman, the husband of the leader of the rebellion in the country. While she was to be put to death, it was discovered early on that she had an immunity to the parasite. The spores, that would infest a body and intelligently repair the body in preparation for an outbreak, had mutated, and began to actively fight all spores upon entry. It was believed that early on in the use of the dust in its infancy that if the spores had been corrupted, they would be incorporated into the immune system and actively fight any invasive spores of the parasite. With this development, and an alien construct recovered in the Nahanni River Valley Caves that they believe could be used to disperse the cure into the atmosphere into the atmosphere, a joint mission was launched between the United States and Canadian governments to bring this girl, who at the time was the only known individual with this immnunity, to the Nahanni River Valley where a secret underground miltary base was that had originally studied the dust upon initial recovery. This mission consisted of a small group of individuals, composed of special operations soldiers, the prisoner, scientists, and anyone deemed critical to the project, had to make the long, daunting trip from Camp Peary in York County, Virginia, to the area near Nahanni National Park and Preserve in the Northwest Territories, Canada where the base was. And with this, their last chance at defeating the parasite before the entirety of Earth is consumed by it.
***Important General RP Information***
The Dust is meant to be a semi-detailed to detailed RP. As such, I wouldn’t call this a casual-friendly RP. The desire is to have a community of writers who plot together, work together, and put out posts that aren’t one liners or a two short paragraphs, and have fun banter and talk on the side in the OOC.
While I do not require people who are trying to join to send me a sample post, I do encourage anyone who wishes to do so to go ahead and send me one. It won’t be a dealbreaker, so don’t feel like you need to send one. There aren’t going to be a lot of slots open to join to begin with, maybe 6 or 7 at the most. We currently have more than enough room to accept a few more characters before we start.
I don’t say any of this to discourage anyone from trying to join, I just want to be honest with people on what to expect, and help people decide whether this RP is the right one for you or not.
The RP is meant to follow a specific plot line with specific plot points to hit as the story progresses. But between these plot points will be freedom to entertain character arcs and subplots. There just will be a plot line that we follow.
If you actually read this entire thing, very cool, very based. With your reply in this thread, copy this picture into your post. It’ll confuse everyone.

Aerolyn Woodbead - The Immune
Closed
Before the Civil War and the Parasite's outbreak, Aerolyn, born Aerolyn Barnett, and her family lived in outside a small town on a her father’s ranch in Western Montana on the edge of the Bitterroot Mountains. Growing up on a ranch, Aerolyn grew up accustomed the skill of raising and maintaining livestock of various animals, as well as becoming skilled with horses. The culture and life out in Western Montana on the foothills of a wild and rugged mountain range meant that growing up, she had to learn how to survive off the land. And she fell in love with that sort of lifestyle. While food stores and many modern conveniences may have been near her ranch, the winter’s were long and rough. In order to survive, bushcraft and hunting were essential. Often times her family had to rely on the meat they harvested hunting to survive points in the cold winter, when snow was so deep that travel outside of their home all but became impossible without the use of snowmobiles.
Due to this lifestyle, it was paramount that Aerolyn learned the ways of bushcraft, backpacking, hunting, and how to survive in the kind of country that was untamed and wild, where predators could lurk around the corner and kill sometimes before anyone would know they were getting attacked. And learn this kind of life Aerolyn did from a young age. Ever since she could head into the mountains with her father and shoot a rifle straight, Aerolyn was hunting, learning how to survive in the bush, and spending time in the nature she grew to love and feel at home and at peace with. This kind of culture and upbringing made Aerolyn incredibly close with her family. They operated as one unit, happy and loving. She had the picture perfect family. But these good fortunes would not last.
Aerolyn lived with her mother, father, and younger brother. Early on in her life, her younger brother had contracted a rare case of brain eating amoeba when he was 11, and eventually died, with her in the room as he took his last breath. What was strange about this entire ordeal was that her brother had received the medical dust at this time, but the Dust had not done anything to help her brother. It was the first case of the Dust not helping someone, as even in several other cases of patients eith the same brain eating amoeba, the Dust helped save other people's lives. The family was absolutely devestated by this loss. Aerolyn hit a rough road in her life immediately following it. She was only 13 at the time of her brother’s death. Her and her brother were incredibly close. They were almost like the best of friends. In her life, family was the most important thing. And with one of them taken away, she didn’t know how to cope with such a tremendous loss. After his death, Aerolyn’s father started to drink heavily, and what remained of the family was shattered. No one knew how to handle the loss. But her father went off the deep end. This time in her life is shrouded in mystery. Aerolyn never dare speak of it. The memories are painful, and the scars, both figurative and physically, never fully faded.
At some point after this time, the family became one once again. The demons were driven out. But, the peace, the happiness only lasted so long. When Aerolyn was 18, she contracted an echovirus, which caused Myocarditis. And just like her brother, the Dust that was administered to her did nothing. They were forced to do things the traditional medical way. As such, the only option was for her to get a heart transplant. After the heart transplant, Aerolyn struggled with rehab. Whereas normal medical science at the time dictated the use of Dust, she was unaffected by it. Traditional rehab and immunosuppressants were the only way to achieve any sense of normalcy that she had prior to the heart transplant. Despite her struggles, her heart wasn't rejected by her body, and she continued to live. But for the rest of her life, she would need to take immunosuppressants, or else her own body would attack her heart, and kill it. And what’s more, she'll need more donor hearts after every so often to ensure she can live, as the donor hearts only last so long.
In the years leading up until to the Civil Wars, Aerolyn met a man whom she fell deeply in love with. This man was Wilhelm Woodbead, the future leader of the entire Rebel Forces in the United States. The two met when Woodbead was hired by Aerolyn's father as a ranchand. Aerolyn had been in the hospital when he was hired, and the two would not meet until she came back home following the procedure. Woodbead met her when she was still fairly out of it from the intense physical toll the heart transplant put on her body. Before she knew it, Woodbead was helping on the ranch, and helping her family with her rehab. Once Aerolyn started to come more to it mentally, the two of them just hit it off right away. They could feel they were soulmates, and not long after meeting, started to date. Everything Wilhelm did was for his love. He cared for her, and helped her reach the life she once had as she recovered. The two only fell harder in love as the years went on.
During this time, Wilhelm began to get involved heavily in the Rebel's ideology, which Aerolyn did as well. Woodbead and his love would participate in political rallies and movements as time went on. The two became completely involved in the movement. As Wilhelm was rising in popularity, he bought a ring, and proposed to Aerolyn. A year later, the two were married in a small church in the mountains in a very private ceremony. The two began to plan their life together, or what life Aerolyn would have left in her due to the heart transplant. They were cautious, but dreamed big. They would go on and on about how they would have five kids and live a peaceful life out in the mountains away from a rapidly deteriorating society. But only a few short years later, their plans would change.
As the political climate grew more and more volatile, Wilhelm and his rebel group became better prepared and armed. After a long series of small skirmishes with government and affliliated private groups, the civil war began when the FBI raided the House that Wilhelm and Aerolyn lived in. Unbeknownst to the FBI, Wilhelm and his group had kown of it because of his men who were undercover in the FBI. And when the time came, the signal was sent to start the rebellion. Not a single federal agent not affiliated with the Rebel group survived the raid, and only two out of the 50 people on the rebel's side were hit. The Rebels viewed this as the time to start and take their country back, as skirmishes were happening all around the US.
The events of the war were long and bloody. Aerolyn never was involved in the fighting. But due to history, and the fact she was married to the leader, she received the same training that the men did. But towards the end of the war, an oppurtunity for the United States Government occured where they were able to capture her. They intended to use this as a way to draw Wilhelm out into either peace talks (which they were going to kill them if they agreed, as it was victory at any cost no matter how dirty), or lure him into a trap. He knew it was, but he was not going to let his wife be executed by the Feds. His wife was everything, and he would never go his life without her. So, with his best soliders he converged on the camp she was held. They infiltrated the camp's doors with sheer force and they started the fight to her. The battle was intense, but eventually they made it to her. The two embraced for a moment, before they led her out of the compound. But just before they could exit, their extraction team was overrun, their helo shot down, and they became cornered. The Feds and the rebels knew there was no surrendering. The Rebels took out as many as they could, but in the end, the volume of fire against them was too much. Wilhelm died by jumping on his wife and letting his body and his body armor take the hits. He was not killed immediately, however. The two exchanged a final goodby, before a federal agent came and killed Wilhelm. They still wanted Aerolyn prisoner to use her for ways to demoralize the Rebels, before they would execute her, as she was just as beloved as Wilhelm.
Just before they were going to execute her, the parasite attcked. And through brutal experiments, they learned that she was immune to it. As such, they kept her alive for study. But as the war against the parasite grew more and more desparate, they knew her imunity was the last hope against the parasite. Because of this, a mission was launched to get her to the one place where there was any chance of utilizing her cure and stopping the parasite.
Sawyer Lee - Operation Leader
Closed
Sawyer Lee was born into the Lee family, being related to the famous Confederate General Robert E. Lee. With the notoriety and history of his family, Sawyer felt as if he had a lot to accomplish to live up to his name. During his upbringing, his father hounded into him the necessity physical fitness, and trained him how to hunt, track, fish, and live off the land. His father wanted to instill that in his son from a young age. And along with that, he consistently told Sawyer the meaning of “God, Family, and Country.” Sawyer was patriotic from a young age because of this, and was a hardened boy when he got into his teenage years.
During high school, Sawyer was a straight A student and a gifted athlete. He was a quarterback on his high school football team, and was able to lead his team to a state championship game that they one in his senior year. Colleges were adamant about recruiting him. But Sawyer didn’t want to go to college, or become a professional athlete. He had aspirations of being a soldier, and the best soldier he could possibly be for his beloved country, the United States of America. And in the tradition of his family’s legacy, Sawyer did just that. As soon as he finished high school, Sawyer enlisted in the Navy, and eventually went on to Navy SEAL BUD/S training. He became one of the best SEALs in the history of their training, beating numerous BUD/S training records. He easily completed BUD/S Training, and earned his Trident.
Over the course of his career, Sawyer went on to earn numerous awards for his actions and heroism in combat. He was deployed all over the world on some of the most dangerous missions the SEALS would have to carry out. But he always managed to survive every mission. He quickly climbed through the ranks as a SEAL, and in SEAL circles, became one of the most well respected members of the SEALs.
Sawyer was deployed in Afghanistan when news of civil war broke out in the US. Sawyer was shocked to learn how well coordinated the Rebels were, and how they were easily taking parts of the country over. Once things were looking back for the US Government, he and his SEAL Team were extracted from the country and sent stateside to help retake land lost to the Rebels. When Sawyer learned the reality of the war, he was angered and disgusted. He was told of massacres committed by these Rebels, his fellow countrymen, who murdered his own brothers and sisters in nation. Sawyer practically jumped at the idea of being able to put these traitors down. As such, Sawyer would take part in some of the most covert operations in the civil war. His most successful mission would be the one that captured Aerolyn Woodbead, the wife of the leader of the Rebels, someone that Sawyer hated for what he’d done to his country he loved.
Sawyer was never involved in any of the dealings with Mrs. Woodbead once captured. The Feds holding her would not let him, or any SEAL, be in the rooms where she was. Sawyer hated her, and wished he could’ve killed her himself. She and her husband were amongst some of the greatest evils in history in his mind. But, while she was held captive, he was ordered to keep the base secure where she was held, as intel said that Rebel retaliation and attempted rescue were highly probable. Sure enough, the time came when the rebels would attack, lead by Wilhelm Woodbead, to rescue his wife. During the beginning of the attack, Sawyer was ordered to stay withdrawn in the shadows while the Rebels entered the compound. It was only when they tried to escape that he was to be involved. The extraction team was the first target of his, along with the evac helo. Both were successfully taken care of by his team. And when the time came to stop Wilhelm, he and his team were at the forefront of the engagement that ultimately took down the extraction team. Sawyer himself put Wilhelm down in front of Aerolyn, to her horror and his joy. He personally escorted her to the Generals to decide her fate.
Following the battle, Sawyer returned to the frontlines of the war, trying his hardest to repel rebel attacks. But it seemed futile. The rebels were enraged by Wilhelm’s death. The spirit they fought with, along with their passion and ferocity, earned Sawyer a respect as an adversary. But the war would be upended when the parasite attacked.
Sawyer was in one of the first areas to be completely overrun by the parasite, Washington D.C. While he and his team took place in numerous battles against the parasite, they were losing, and fast. There was no consensus on how to fight the parasite. Things rapidly advanced with the outbreak, and Sawyer knew this was a losing war on the ground. He was ordered back to a secretive nuclear bunker when the decision was made that nuclear Armageddon to slow the parasite down was the only option so they attempt their Hail Mary of a plan. Once the fires and bombs stopped dropping, Sawyer was tasked with bringing the very woman he hated for what happened to his country, Aerolyn Woodbead, to a secretive base in one of the most remote parts of Canada, in order for them to extract her immunity to the parasite and effectively use it in an alien sort of construct to disperse it in the air. Sawyer had to put his feelings aside about the woman, as he understood the gravity of the situation. Sawyer would command this group of survivors to the Nahanni River Valley in Canada, with it being stated that this must happen under any circumstances, and that she was needed alive. He quickly understood this was the most important mission he, or any of his men, would have ever conducted.

Rule Three
Anything very specific to lore or the RP, it’s always best to check and make sure it’s consistent. This is especially for the civil wars prior to the outbreak. I intentionally made beliefs and political ideologies vague so that there was no arguing over politics. And as such, I wish to stay away from those topics in general with the RP. I hope that I’ve given enough information to get a general idea, however, of what happened. Additional information will be given in the RP by my two characters, one being the leader of the group trying to reach the Nahanni, and the other being the Rebel girl. Any questions on the lore of the universe, feel free to ask.
***Additional lore information will be linked in the thread so that you can read more detailed summaries will be linked once the Lore Thread is created.***
Rule Four
This RP will be post order based, unless otherwise stated. As such, if someone does not respond after two days, they will be skipped in post order. Anyone who fails to respond within five days will have their character written off. This will give potential for the character to jump back in should the person wish to return.
*Non-response guidelines are subject to change once pace of the RP is determined.
Rule Five
Be respectful of others in the RP and in any OOC. Drama ain’t fun.
Rule Six
If you wish to leave the RP, please inform me. This isn’t a job, and life happens. We do this for fun, and as such, if anyone wishes to leave, I understand. Just give me a warning, and if possible, a final post.
