A space opera
The Commedia.

overview.
Buona sera, signore e signora,
The stage has been set today. Let me introduce you to our setting. This is a world set in the far distant future - where humanity has reached the stars and beyond, leaving behind the little blue planet they've called home for some time. They live in colonies, some in massive flying ecosystems, some on planets of varying ecosystem. But most live under the thumb of a massive corporation which has created both the metallic ground you walk on, the air you breathe, and the food you eat.
The characters of the play come from the fringe of civilization, outcasts of society. They live as pirates and plunder ships for their resources. Though, perhaps they had not always been thieves, this is what they are now. They live upon a medium sized space ship called The Commedia. Though, keep in mind that “medium” is more akin to being able to support a group of people’s living upon it for weeks, up to months, at a time.
For as long as time has existed, this play has ended in a tragedy. But, I implore you, as the actors fall back into their places, that perhaps this time it will end well. It was written in the stars long ago, but things can be rewritten.
summary.
With a loud boom, the pirate ship exploded. The casualties? Just a handful of pirates. Not at all important, no need to be named. They're dead, and gone. The enforcers will go back to their ships, talk about the hardest battles won of the day, and go to sleep with a clear conscience, forgotten by tomorrow.
But this is going to be a new cycle of the play. And it won't go the same way again.
Welcome to the Commedia, it's a bit of a strange, dysfunctionally functional family floating in space. Everyone has a part to play, and everyone has their past. That is the rule on the Commedia, after all: your past stays in the past. All that matters is the present. Needless to say, they tend to pick up quite a few drifters and tortured types. They live on a ship, not one of the massive colony ships that are meant to support large amounts of human life for decades if not centuries, but a medium sized exploration ship that was repurposed for extending its life far longer than it was meant to.
Hardy and tough, like its crewmates, the ship has been flagged by some of the corporations that control the intergalactic community as a "pirate ship." And fair enough, the crew of the Commedia live on the fringes of society and they live off of the stolen goods which they manage to pilfer from cargo ships which run on set courses down trade routes called the "Silk Road." They are not the only ones that do this, as the other vagrants and outcasts that pepper this society are all but forced to turn to piracy to live; however, it should be noted that they are by far some of the most successful pirates... In that the crew of the Commedia tend to live longer than a year after turning to theft to survive.

Il Capitano.
open / closed
The captain, and the de facto leader of the entire band you see before you. Perhaps not the best at fighting, but the most charismatic. The mediator. The one that people turn to as an authority figure, at least, the one that people can stomach the most standing at the highest rung of the pecking order. There are elections, but the captain has run unopposed for years now. Most people that join the crew know that they're the leader, and that when the chips are down, you go to them.
Pantalone
open / closed
The first mate, and the person who actually delegates day to day tasks. Daily administration is done by them. They are the ones that take care of the ship and the things that need to be done in the day. The "mother" of the ship, it's very likely that nothing would be done without their firm hand actually getting this motley crew off their asses and being productive.
Columbina
open / closed
Particularly good at intelligence gathering, they know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy. By far the most well-connected, they have a knack for knowing things about people and manipulating them to do what they want and are usually tasked with informing the crew about security measures that they might run into or where the best place to lay low might be or the most pirate friendly colony that they could sleep in is. They know everything about everyone... That is, except for most of their own crewmates... But that is more out of respect, than a lack of ability to gather information about the crewmates. After all, everyone on this ship has their own past that they're running from. Columbina isn't any different.
Arlecchino
open / closed
A newer member to the motley crew, they are just a little bit lagging behind the "well oiled" machine of the rest of their crewmates. They have potential, but they are young and a bit naive. Good fighter, and a strong person, but not yet acclimated to life as a pirate and the pecking order which they've adopted.
Il Dottore
open / closed
Despite their name, they are not a doctor. But, on the Commedia, things can be quite strange if left be for long enough. Most likely a scientist or coming from an academic background, they are one of the few people on the ship that actually have higher education. Completely unqualified to administer any kind of first aid, but by far the only one that maybe has some semblance of an idea on how the human body works and how to work the complicated machinery of medicine, the crew have had to make do. Beggars can't be choosers, after all.
Creativity
open / closed
All of these masks are simply templates for you to utilize. You may pick one if you'd like, but I also encourage you to create your own! (Though, please DM me your role idea so that I know what your role is)

one. Please adhere to all RPN rules, and I expect that respect be given to everybody involved. If you're going to join, I request that you write at least 3 paragraphs per post, realistic face claims would be appreciated. I'm also going to be accepting as many or as few characters as I'd like depending on what I think will be best for the RP over all. All GM decisions are final.
two.Considering that this is taking years upon years in the future, you should hope that with the founding of new planets and galaxies to be born and live upon, that humanity as a whole would disregard prejudices based upon (but not limited to) sex, race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender identity and expression, and disability to be rather idiotic in the face of potential alien life and the spread across space. Therefore, I will not tolerate any kind of prejudice shown by those out of character or player characters and that if touched upon, it will be treated with the grace and the dignity and the weight that such issues demand.
three.Mature themes will be present. Therefore, I request that all applicants be 17+. There will be leniency here and there, but I do not feel particularly comfortable writing with such themes with a bunch of minors. Thank you for understanding.
