Realistic or Modern The difference between the scroll and tab: a soldiers story

Trunk Monkey

In Gladii Veritas
Year 2017

A warning from the US postal board has sent grave news throughout the country. The United States is now at war with North Korea, Russia, and China. Not including the multiple communist dictator countries that already wanted the US gone in the first place. But that wasn't the worst memo received. Chemical Warfare is now in full motion; with the Geneva Convention failing. No longer is the US, or any other country restrained by a set of laws during war. This may be indeed, the war to end them all. The war is scheduled to start in 2 years from now, will that be enough time to prepare? The US Army has created a new MOS (military occupational specialty) to suite chemical and biological warfare, but at the same time, ruthlessness. They truly want to create a suicide squad, and it's all volunteer. On the island of Malta (now a chemical shit storm) is where this 6 month school takes place.

You have just received your acceptance letter in the mail; and your recruiter wishes you the best of luck. You leave tomorrow for Malta in hopes of being a cold hard killer in the next 6 months. But little do you know, Ex-Cons and every single unwanted are also able to take part in this training. Do you have what it takes to survive the worst recorded training in military history? Let's see how far your willing to go...

Holy shit, completely forgot about this RP! Never got to follow through with it before I had to go on that dumb business trip. To answer you're question though, I doubt it. People just don't nessisarily like military themed RP's around here unfortunately. My friend started a modern pirate RP not too long ago; and it slightly has military themes in it, but it 'isn't' military. However, I've ALWAYS have wanted to start up a Vietnam RP; but felt I wouldn't be able to do those boys justice. I also don't think people would be down to re-live the horrid experiences of that place either. Guess all we have are High School RP's :( the world works in mysterious ways.

Yeah, I never understood why people here cant get into military rps, and when the do they do it all wrong, but they'll go and beat the supernatural, highschool, magic, zombie apocolypse or sci-fi horse to death. Just doesnt make any sense. I would actually be willig to do a vietnam RP, its my favorite time in history to learn about

I suppose it wouldn't be too drastic... Even though it was a harsh time in our history, we would be crippling ourselves just ignoring it. I'll tell you what; I'll put up a detailed and vivid thread about it in the Interests Section. My friend knows a whole lot more about Vietnam than I do, her going to college for her history major. And I'm fairly educated on old school infantry tactics and battle drills. I'm sure if me and her worked together; we'd probably be able to pull it off.

I remember you telling me you wanted to join the military... Have you decided what you want to do yet? I recommend Cavalry Scout :)

Ive known what I want to do in the military since I was little. I want to be a U.S. Army Ranger with an MOS in infantry

Very admirable. I had the same exact drive when I was young too... My advice? Start as soon as possible. The Army has somewhat 'stalemated' the war in Afghanistan for the time being starting this year, and it would give you plenty of time to get in shape and train for ranger school. Most soldiers deploy right after basic... Coming back home with very little motivation to stay in the military.

Im doing the enlistment papers right now actually haha and plan to do delayed entry with a ranger contract pre secured so that I hopefully just streamline through basic to ait to airborne and after a few more possible classes, ranger

Make sure you get Airborne in your contract before everything else!!! Ranger school is always available to Infantry, but Airborne is a dying breed. Most rangers walking around with the tab have yet to earn their airborne wings. Don't let your recruiter bullshit you into not getting airborne into your contract!!! Sorry... I just really fucking hate recruiters. They will say anything to make a person enlist. Most of them will say the bullshit lines like: " Don't worry man, you'll get offered Airborne in basic! " or even the famous one: " You can just volunteer for it when you get to your unit! " airborne school being granted during basic is extremely rare, even with ranger in your contract. Just make sure you check the fine prints...

Airborne is a requirement to go to ranger school so all rangers walking around with the tab on their arms are airborne qualified. Also, ranger isnt always available to infantry. Theres a system of requirements you have to meet and also, the spots to go to ranger school fill up fast.

See; that's what they tell ya. Airborne is only a requirement to get into a ranger battalion. You can very well go to ranger school without being airborne, but you'll be transferred to a 'boot' unit until you go to airborne school. Sometimes it not being open, or the waiting list being completely full for the physical year. There's a portion of ranger school that does require you to jump, but candidates that haven't done airborne school will skip that phase.

That's true what you said about the ranger slots though; it's just a lot harder to get into airborne than ranger. Even though airborne school is the easiest school in the army as of right now.

Sorry if this comes off as rude but let me re phrase this:

I plan to be an U.S. Army Ranger, which means that I am an airborne qualified soldier. If I go to Ranger school I am airnorne qualified because they will not let you 'skip' a phase in Ranger school because I couldnt meet the minimum requirements. A majority of Ranger school is on the ground, working on advanced infantry tactics and other such skills. Airborne is offered a ton now. Being qualified to do a static jump out of a C-130 is not as great a feat as it used to be. I mean no offense to airborne soldiers by saying that but its the reality. My father was offerd airborne along with about 13 other people when he was in basic. Its not as prestigious as it used to be. But once again, to become a Ranger, to even go to Ranger school, I must have completed airborne school and air assault school as well if im not mistaken.

I'm aware of what's required to be a ranger, even though I'm not one. My LT however, is *he isn't airborne qualified, but still graduated ranger school. He now is a platoon leader for the cavalry platoon I'm in.* I was also offered airborne school in basic, along with everyone else in my class. After basic training, we were told to await our orders to go; which never came. We ended up staying at Fort Knox Ky for an extra month because they didn't know what to do with us. ROTC cadets had the airborne slots in reserve apparently, and left us enlisted soldiers in the dust. After that extra month of doing retarded ass 'details' around base, packing it up and all; we were all given a grand surprise. " Y'all going to Korea bitches! ". So I went to Korea, spent a year there stationed at Camp Hovey, 4-7 Cav, Garry Owen. Wanna know what they said to me when I asked to go to airborne school when I got there? " Fuck no! "

It's completely command dictated wether or not you get to go to airborne school, and half of the time, units just can't afford to send people. There's a huge difference between the 75th ranger battalion and just being 'ranger qualified'. Your not skipping a whole phase of ranger school for not being airborne qualified, you're only skipping the jumps. You don't have to take any of what I said for granted if you don't want... I just hate seeing guys get fed shit that could put them in 'limbo'. My recruiter also fucked me over with my initial rank that I was supposed to enter the army in. I did the whole online portion shit, recruited my buddy, and even had prior military school on my record. Because I didn't read the fine print however, I got sent to basic as an E1 instead of the initial E3 I was promised... Recruiters are dirty man.

MUST complete Army airborne school before going to RASP. Its as simple as that. Your LT might have gone to the leadership Ranger sschool which is a few week course on leadership crap but it does not really make you 'Ranger qualified', it just means that your LT went to a course to learn how to better lead soldiers. Being a Ranger on the othrr hand means that you are a specialized airborne, light infantry soldier and are a part of the 75th Ranger rgt. Which means that you have gone to airborne school, because, once again, it is a REQUIREMENT. Its not "Oh, well you didnt go to airborne, so you get to skip this part of RASP." No, you dont even get INTO RASP without that graduation from airborne school.

Yes... Yes you can. I never said you can get into the 75th without airborne, because it very well wouldn't be called the "airborne rangers" if they weren't. However! You are able to do the whole ranger course and earn your tab without airborne, and without ever seeing the 75th ranger battalion. As a Cavalry Scout like myself, I'm unable to be in a ranger battalion because my skills are needed with the common troops. I'm still able to do ranger school, and I'm still able to wear the tab as well. Doesn't make me an "airborne ranger" it makes me either simply a "ranger" or a "ranger qualified" scout. Many people besides my LT are walking around with a ranger tab and have never even jumped out of a plane.

Yet again; I'm trackin you NEED to be airborne to be in the 75th, but you don't need to be airborne to earn the ranger tab; or be a ranger in the first place. There's a big difference between a scroll and a tab. Think of it as a basic training for rangers; every soldiers real training takes place at their unit.

What you were reading to me was the complete Step Plan for getting into a ranger battalion straight out of basic. Which is very accurate. That program still exists, and you could 'already' have airborne in your contract.

PS: AirAssault is only a requirement to be in the 101 airborne; which isn't airborne at all. People still can swing by and never go air assault school though, I've seen that happen too.

Alright, were talking tabs and scrolls seperately. I thought we were talking the whole thing and being in the 75th, which is my plan. I understand that you can go to ranger school and be a leg ranger, but I thoight we were talking about actually being a airborne ranger, member of a batallion in the regiment, whole thing. But by air assault I meant you have to learn how to fast rope out of helo's and shit, which you can either learn that by going to air assault or you are taught it at rasp I believe.

But yeah, I know that youre able to go and get the tab and not be a member of the 75th, I mean there are guys in the airforce who have gone through it and then theres marines who have done it as well.

Communication issue on exactly what we were talking about there I guess

When you mentioned only having ranger in your contract, I didn't think you had the whole 'shibang'. It's all good though, if you're going through the whole entire ranger bat proses, you should already have what you need included in your file.

Lmfao, just realized we were talking in the 'in character RP' section this whole fucking time. I'm probably going to have to delete this RP before people think this thing is 'popping' and start making CS's and shit.

Bwahahahaha, yeah thayd be kinda awkward

But yeah, I have the whole 'shebang' package. But also, I plan for when I become the required rank, to try and go Delta. Go from a tan to a green beret

Wish you luck man, go big or go home. I however, love my 'pot', and have already done too much time. My ass is going to be chilling in California drinking a beer in your honor! Get em killa'

I almost flipped out when I saw this title; my best friend just left 1/75.

I'm a huge war buff/military enthusiast and I've noticed the same trend on the site in regards to a lack of military-themes RPs.

Lmao, thought this may happen. I can't delete threads on my phone; so I just changed the name towards the topic of discussion haha.
