Reynarda

Nerdy Vampire
The Star
Betula, often just shortened to Tula, is a yellow dwarf star who has five identified planets and an asteroid belt that was most likely once a planet.

Cederus, first planet from the star
The planet closest to Tula has no life and is essentially a ball of barren rock. Some of that rock looks interesting, but only probes have visited as the planet has no magnetosphere and is constantly bombarded by Tula's solar winds.

Albaques, second planet from the star

The Planet:
Analogous to Earth, Albaques has 24hr days, four large continents and six oceans. They are in they system's Goldilocks zone, but their temperatures tend to be warmer (more temperate) as they are closer to their star. For ease of expression they had the same flora and fauna as Earth (so they have dogs and giraffes and salamanders and oak trees, etc.) The planet is tilted, giving seasons, and has two moons, Rubra and Phellos. Rubra is larger and has a bustling station while Phellos is smaller and houses research stations.

The People:
Humans with typical human characteristics. They have a strong endurance and easily adapt. They rely on their ability to collect data and make conclusions about the external world. They have made quite a lot of technological advances including space travel, regrowth medicine, and fabrication. (If you have a tech you would like to include, feel free to run it by us!)
Since first contact with vampires, there has been a lot of weapons advances in case of an all-out war with Yasen. One of the most effective tools continues to be silver, so most military personnel will carry silver bullets and silver knives. But they also have managed to create disruptors, which cancel out a vampire's abilities. They don't work as well as the source material--which is the strange phenomenon in which some humans are born with a nervous system that generated a electromagnetic field that screws with a vampire’s ability to use their weird magic.
The government is an oligarchy of representatives from each nation on the planet which is chaired by a Prime Representative, who is voted on by the other representatives. They are known as the United Peoples of Albaques, or UPA. The people of the planet call themselves Albaquese.

Yasen, the third planet from the star

The Planet:
Yasen is on the edge of the system's Goldilocks zone, so they still have liquid water, but their temperatures are much cooler. They recieve only about 40% of the light Albaques receives from Tula and so the species there do not do well in bright light. They have a robust magnetosphere but the planet is smaller, so it only has three-fourths of Albaques' gravity. They have a single small moon, Drasil, and a ring system. They have large alpine trees and shrubs but the fruits tend to be small and berry-like. Many of the herbivore species--which are analogous to deer--eat the tough grass and bark of the trees. Their planet is also tilted, but their seasons do not vary in temperature as much. Many of the flora and fauna are analogous to Albaques', so the vampires often use the same classification system for simplicity's sake when speaking with humans. Many vampires keep a species they call "vulf" as companions, and the species so closely resembles the Albaques wolf that many scientists speculate a common ancestor. Yasen vulfs tend to be the size of small horses, however.

The People:
Vampires have heightened senses of sight (they can see more colors than the human eye but need to wear sunglasses in typical human lighting to protect their eyes), smell, and hearing. They have increased speed and strength, but a human may be able to outlast them. They were originally ambush predators and therefore tend to sit very still--so much so that they almost seem to not be breathing. Contrary to popular belief, vampires cannot survive in the harsh vacuum of space without a vacuum suit as they do need to breathe oxygen and have hearts that pump their blood around. Their metabolisms are slower, so they do tend to live longer and can withstand long periods without eating and can hold their breaths for a long period of time. They also have increased healing ability which is prohibited by silver. The tried and true methods of killing a vampire are a silver blade to the heart or cutting off their heads, but spacing them seems to work well, too. They do need blood to survive, but they mainly get this from the herbivore farms they keep on Yasen. Some vampire factions have been making waves about trying an all-human diet, but most do not follow this ideology. Synthetic blood can be made on long-haul vessels, but most vampires agree it is missing some vital nutrient.
Vampires are divided into clans rather than nations, and each clan has a few representatives in the government, known as the Yassen Federation. The representatives name their replacement and the clan votes for or against them.
Vampire technology looks very different from human technology as their "science" is done through an intuitive understanding of the universe. Their scientists are called "philosophers" and they can interact directly with the aspects of the universe--space, matter, energy, time, and gravity. Research suggests that vampires have special receptors in their eyes for one of these aspects, which allows them to interact with it. However, they must study and be trained for some time before they can use their sight and become a philos--an influencer of one of the five aspects of the universe. Energy philos can speed healing or encourage plant growth, for instance. Gravity philos do not need spin on a ship for gravity, matter philos can influence phase, space philos can teleport short distances. (Really, anything you can think of that fits under these categories is something your character can do, but the more training and studying a vampire has done, the more things they can do with their "sight".) Time philos, however, are extremely rare and must go through a strict training regimen before they should even attempt influencing time. There is currently only one known time philos.
The people of the planet call themselves Yaseniks.

The Asteroid Belt
Home of trapped comets and other space rock and the possible graveyard of a long-dead planet

Olea, fourth planet from the star
Olea is a gas-giant with fifty-some moons and just as many satellites, one of which is Olive Station, the neutral ground our story begins on. Many of the moons are being mined for things like lithium. Ice is also found here and used for water.

The Rip
The rip is several thousand kilometers from Olea and visible with scopes from the planet.

Acer, fifth planet from the star
A small ball of rock and ice, Acer has a decent magnetosphere but is too far from Tula to support life. It has one tiny moon and has only been visited by probes.

Salix, possible sixth planet from the star
Gravitational data suggests there should be a sixth planet, dubbed Salix, but it has not yet been spotted.
