ARS Isabella
Built after two decades of thankless, and at times, fruitless work, the ARS (Alliance Research Ship) Isabella was built by scientists, engineers, and eco-businessmen haunted with the paranoia of losing the earth. Many considered the ship a vanity project to stroke the egos of out of touch environmentalists.
When earth's demise came to be, it's one of humanity's best hopes.
The ship was constructed with numerous bleeding edge innovations. Like most spacefaring vehicles of the 22nd century, it uses Omnimatter as its energy source, the very material that allows magic to occur. Expensive supercomputers worth over 2 billion dollars built onboard the ship power DAVE, an AI to oversee the energy management, allowing them the ability to jump across star clusters in the blink of an eye.
Isabella is also equipped with a controversial, highly secretive addition. The AME-001, a very sinister machine that a few onboard knows. AME (Autonomous Magical Extractor) was built to drain magic out of a sentient lifeform. While a few who knew its existence are aware the AME is only going to be used to drain magic of the alien worlds the ship will encounter, there are doubts whether the AI will use AME to drain the power of the ship's passengers for the completion of the mission.
Some noteworthy equipment the ship has includes:
CSC (Community Spellcasting Center)
Built by the magi-tech conglomerate WizTek, CSC allows the ship access to a network of magi that can provide spellcasting necessities for the ship's needs. The CSC on earth allows for over 1000 spells to be cast, but various limitations only allow the ship 100 spells within the ship's library.
"What's wrong Timmy? You wanna turn Butch the Bully into a frog, but you can't do magic? CSC Terminal is what you need! Simply choose a spell of your liking, power the spell, and point the wand at Butch!"
DreamPods
When there's not enough time to ponder the next best move during urgent situations, run immediately to the DreamPods. Advancements in dream research have skyrocketed ever since magic was discovered. While still experimental, it's now possible to link minds into a shared consciousness built by an AI.
Originally designed to help architects and structural engineers work with imaginary constructs and impossible objects, the DreamPods' time dilation is a desirable side effect many want to use. Each hour that passes in the DreamPods is a day's worth in the dreamer's mind.
Universal Link-Up
"Wouldn't it be amazing if I have your brain, Ed's fighting skills, and my business acumen as one?"
It's hard to lose control of one's own body, but what if in exchange you gain a greater understanding of everything? The concept of energy flowing through all living things and spiritual links that humans share were popular and thoroughly investigated with magic.
The result is a machine, created by 3 of the biggest players in magi-tech that allows people to pour their thoughts, personalities, and abilities into a person that becomes the avatar of their networked consciousness.
This results in anything unseen before, an immensely powerful being that doesn't simply combine the strength of the individuals, but multiply them by hundred folds. The amount of Omnimatter required to power a Link-Up is immense, but so was the reward.
Isabella took the Link Up to the next level, by pouring the networked consciousness of the crew to DAVE, an AI with flawless efficiency and effectiveness.
Other accommodations are provided as well:
- Medical Bay equipped with a surgical center capable of treating brain tumors
- Mess hall, mostly packaged and instant meals, but on rare occasions may have access to fresh ingredients (entirely dependent on transit places)
- Navigation center with a hologram map that models the area nearby and points out interesting signals
- Cockpit with comms linked to every part of the ship and a translator with algorithms to decipher unknown languages detected
- Arena, for crew members that want to let off steam. Augmented reality mixed with temporary magical manifestation allow a realistic combat field within the arena.
- Personal rooms for executives and leads, shared space for common personnel
