Blame him for his cheesiness if you must, but Dino thinks he won't ever grow tired of the way Althea's eyes light up with joy.
It's a painfully dumb thought, one that would make their classmates and friends no doubt grimace with pain; but he thinks, really, that they would survive if he keeps it in the safety of his own head. Nobody can mock him for taking in the warmth of her smile, the sparkle in the blackness of her eyes like fire in a night - at least he's not like those new couples that walk with arms intertwined like snakes, sighing over the other's hair/arms/hands and subjecting every innocent by-stander to the horror that is way too open PDA. If he has to tiredly stand in front of a classroom as some couple turns googly eyes on each other and making far more a scene than anybody will ever want to witness, well - Dino might seriously consider homicide. He might get dragged off Mythos by a god itself, but some things were just beyond the line.
So if Dino smiles dumbly and too openly at her, and if his heart does a little jump of emotion when she hugged him - fine. That's his business and his business alone. Nobody can blame him for that, can they?
He returns the hug, tightening his arms around her for the days they've been apart. She's warm in a way he's missed, smelling of the sea and salt. Laughter, free and honest escaped him at her story - tightened only by a little fear, because if Pandan was capable of trying to de-eyebrow Althea in her sleep, what else is he capable of? That thing is literally a demon. ''Tell me why you keep him again.'' Dino's hand lingered on her shoulder fondly, even after they had let go; a smile still flickered on his lips, not quite dying out. Her eyebrow, at least, survived the ordeal. Though if you ask him, Pandan is going to find another victim and soon. The thought made him grimace, cursing the foul animal in the depths of his mind.
A flicker of realisation over her features, and a small gift pulled out of her pocket - protected by paper and her hand. 'I got you something. Itโs good luckโcheesy, I know but. I dunno. I thought about you.' He took the words as he took the small gift, with something softer creeping over his face before he even realised it. ''Thank you. Do I open it now or...'' He blinked in hesitation, hand awkwardly held up. ''Think it's gonna protect me from the monkey?'' Only a half-joke, but he grinned like an idiot all the while, giddy with something he didn't want to analyze too deeply.
''Oh, right - how'd that mission go? You got out okay?''
